George Lee Taylor was born the son of Charlie Taylor and Velda Louthan Taylor on July 28, 1934, in Wirth, Ark., and departed this life Sept. 28, 2008, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., at the age of 74 years.
He was united in marriage Feb. 5, 1965, at Rockford, Ill., to Betty Hardcastle.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home in Scott City, Mo.; two sons, Waymon Taylor and wife, Jennifer, of Litchfield, Ill., and Bruce Taylor and wife, Robyn, of Scott City; one sister, Jane Rogers, of Pocahontas, Ark.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jimmie Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was a farmer and enjoyed working with his horses and mules.
George was employed by the City of Thayer, working for the street department for many years.
He was a Christian and a member of the Rose Hill Baptist church for many years.
He will be remembered by his family as a devoted husband, a loving and caring father and brother. He will truly be missed by all.
Memorial service for Mr. Taylor was held Sunday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Baptist Church, Thayer, with Bro. Wayne Guffey officiating. Services were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Thayer.
Stanley Eugene Medlock, 49

Stanley Eugene Medlock, 49 years, passed away on Oct. 30, 2008 at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Mo.
Stanley was born May 22, 1959 in Mansfield, Mo., to Ora and Ineta (Loftin) Medlock.
Stanley was employed as an auto mechanic. He was resident of Rogersville for the past 10 years moving from Springfield. Stanley enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and challenge of repairing anything that did not work.
Stanley was preceded by his father, Ora Lee Medlock, grandparents, Floyd and Louise Medlock and Albert and Gara Loftin.
Stanley is survived by his mother, Ineta Louise Gann, Harwood, Mo.; three children, Brian Lee Medlock, Alyssa Renee Medlock and Ashten Davis, all of Rogersville; three brothers, Douglas L. Gann and Lisa, and Chalmer L. Gann, all of Springfield, and Don E. Gann and Kristy, Eldorado Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Sandra Yost and Scott, Springfield, and Sharon Nolan and Jim, Phoenix, Ariz.; aunt Darlene and David Jenkins, St. Louis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Stanley were Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in the Loftin Cemetery. Officiating was the Rev. Dwain Moore. The family requests memorials to Loftin Cemetery.
Darrell Roberts, 67

Robert Darrell Roberts, son of Rev. Glesco Roberts and Edith Mae (Boggs) Roberts, was born on July 17, 1941 in Brownbranch, Mo., and went home to be with his Lord on Oct. 29, 2008 at Ava. He was 67 years of age.
Darrell was a retired funeral director and a resident of the Ava community for several years.
Darrell and Charlotte Todd were united in marriage on April 22, 1961 in Ava and to this union one son was born.
Darrell was a Christian and a member of the General Baptist Church and attended the Ava General Baptist Church. He had been employed with Clinkingbeard Funeral Home for several years.
Darrell enjoyed trading trucks. He loved reaching out and caring for people and their families at the funeral home. He adored his family and friends. His smiling face will be missed but never forgotten.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Glesco and Edith Roberts.
He is survived by one son, Kirk Roberts, Springfield; one grandson, Darren Roberts, Ava; one sister Janice Keith and husband, Bob, Mansfield; one brother, Denny Roberts and wife, Reanee, Ava; nephews, Lane Jenkins and Heath Roberts; several cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Darrell will be Saturday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m., in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Tom Johnson and R.E. Helsley officiating. Interment will follow in the Dann Cemetery at Brownbranch. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests memorials to American Heart Association or Dann Cemetery at the funeral home.
Barbara Lee Young, 80

Barbara Lee Young, 80 years, passed away on Oct. 17, 2008 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare.
Barbara was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Thornfield, to Earl and Thelma (Garrison) Evans.
Barbara was a housewife and a lifelong resident of the Ava community.
On Dec. 23, 1948 Barbara and Lester Young were united in marriage in Ava and to this union, two sons were born.
She was a member of the Gentry Church.
She loved to read books and was a quick read. Barbara loved being with her family and friends and she loved and adored them.
Barbara was preceded by her parents, husband, Lester, one granddaughter and one brother, Wayne.
Barbara is survived by two sons and their spouses, George and Janice Young, Ava, and Kenneth and Elizabeth Young, Blackburn, Mo.; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Judy and Bill LeVelle, Walnut Shade, Mo.; two brothers, Jim Evans, Loganville, Ga., and Sim Evans, Ohio; one aunt, Lena and Jim Sallee, Mt. Vernon; a sister-in-law, Delores Young, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Barbara were Monday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in Denney Cemetery. Officiating was Pastor David Dodson.
Memorials may be made to Gentry Church or Denney Cemetery.
Eunice Faye Wheat, 80

Eunice Faye Wheat, daughter of the late Drew and Clara (Wake) Smith, was born on Dec. 21, 1927, in Douglas County, and passed away on Oct. 17, 2008 at her son’s residence in Mt. Pleasant, Ark., following a long illness. She was 80 years, 9 months, and 26 days of age.
Eunice grew up and attended schools in Douglas and Howell counties in Missouri and was united in marriage to James Orus Wheat on July 29, 1944 in West Plains.
They made their home in the Vanzant community. Two sons were born to this union. Mr. Wheat preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2007.
Eunice took great pride in her home and flowers. She also loved to metal detect and was an avid rock collector.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Don Wheat; and a sister-in-law, Vera Lovan.
Eunice is survived by her two sons, Kenneth James Wheat and wife, Linda, of Sparta, and Rick Allen Wheat and wife, Penny, of Mt. Pleasant, Ark.; three grandchildren, Lisa Shortt and husband, Gary, of Oldfield, James Wheat and wife, Kensey, of Violet Hill, Ark., and Robert Wheat, of Mt. Pleasant, Ark.; two great-granddaughters, Casey and Jessica Shortt, of Oldfield; two brothers, Earl Smith and wife, Kathy, of Mtn. Grove, and Don Smith and wife, Ann, of Vanzant; three sisters, Velma Williams and husband, J.D., of Vanzant, Juanita Easter and husband, Lee Vandon, also of Vanzant, and Jeanita Fish and husband, Ross, of Mtn. Grove; a brother-in-law, B.E. Jack Wheat and wife, Lyda, of Vanzant; a sister-in-law, Shirley Chandler and husband, Gene, of Mtn. Grove; several nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Eunice Wheat were held Monday, Oct. 20, at the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Bud Scherer and Rev. Lee Easter officiating. Jared Moore sang "As The Life Of A Flower" and "Amazing Grace" with Rhonda Hurtt serving as pianist. Pallbearers were Robert Wheat, James Wheat, David Melton, Dacey Hewett, Benny Rodgers, and Danny Fish. Burial was held in the Vanzant Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
Glen E. Marler, 88

Glen E. Marler, 88 years, passed away on Oct. 15, 2008 at his home in Fordland.
Glen was born Dec. 22, 1919 in Diggins, to Riley and Lottie (Pearcy) Marler.
Glen was employed as a grounds keeper. Glen loved the fruit harvest time and dinking with old cars. He enjoyed playing with his grandkids and spending time with all the family.
Glen and Viola Hargis were united in marriage on June 14, 1943, in Marshfield.
Glen worked at Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield until he retired in 1993, then moved to Fordland for the remainder of his life.
Glen was preceded by his parents; one great-grandson, Troy; one brother, Arlon "Dude" Sanders; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and stepfather, Arlon Sanders.
Glen is survived by his wife, Viola G. Marler, Fordland; seven children and their spouses, Duane and Vicki Marler, Ronald and Ruth Marler, Cunningham, Ky., Robert Marler, Mayfield, Ky., Garry Marler, Fairgrove, Mo., Steve Marler, Fordland, Mo., Caroline Genanatti, Mayfield, Ky., and Donna and Bob Farrell, Grant City, Mo.; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Lorean English, Baxter Springs, Kan., Eunice Sanders, Monett, Mo., and Verna May Helms, Eugene, Ore.; one brother, Eugene Sanders, Oregon; many nieces and nephews; other relatives, sister-in-law, Elizabeth and Bill Lupton, Fordland, brother-in-law, Raymond and Celesta Hargis, Chadwick, and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Glen were Monday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. at the Easter Cemetery in Webster County. Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 19, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava. Officiating was Rev. Dale Roller. Memorials may be made to Easter Cemetery.
Susan Louise Haase, 60

Susan Louise Haase, the daughter of Walter Tietz and Lilian Edith (Schumacher) Tietz, was born Oct. 8, 1948, in Santa Monica, Calif., and departed this life Oct. 15, 2008 at the age of 60 years and 7 days.
Susan was a resident of the area for the past 10 years, moving here from Nipomo, Calif.
On July 4, 1987, Susan and Chester E. Haase were united in marriage in Las Vegas, Nev.
Susan was a homemaker and she enjoyed scrap booking, quilting, doll making, crafts and her computer.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents.
Her survivors include her husband, Chester, of the home, Oldfield; four children, Tony Hord, Jody Hord, Chris Hord, all of Redding Calif., and Kimmy Quinlan, Winston Salem, N.C.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Ron Tietz, Henderson, Nev.; and one sister, Janet Sanders, La Canada, Calif.; and other relatives and friends.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.
Dorothy Mae Howerton, 78

Dorothy Mae Howerton, daughter of Virgil Horner and Maggie (Chapman) Horner, was born Oct. 8, 1930, and passed on Oct. 10, 2008, at the age of 78 years.
Dorothy was a life-long resident of the Ava area. She was employed with White River Electric for 47 years and also prepared taxes.
In 1969, she and Mr. Harold Howerton were united in marriage in Ava.
Dorothy loved flower gardening, going to garage sales and auctions and helping others.
Dorothy was on the Ava Housing Authority Board for several years. She loved going on hunting trips with her husband, Harold, to Colorado. She loved life and her family.
Dorothy was a member of the Ava General Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and one sister.
She is survived by a sister, Thelma Collier and her husband, Noah, Bartonville, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. John Haskins and Oren Alcorn officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornfield Cemetery, Thornfield, Mo. Visitation will be today (Thursday), 6 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Neighbor Helping Neighbor.
