Leland Robert Wolfgang was born July 16, 1949, at Eau Clair, Wisc., the son of Robert and Arlene (Zempel) Wolfgang.
He departed this life Dec. 24, 2008, at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, at the age of 59 years, 5 months and 8 days.
He was united in marriage with Gloria Asmussen and, since their retirement, they have made their home on the farm at Tunas, where he raised Scottish Highland cattle.
He was a guidance counselor at the Climax Springs school system and was a member of the Missouri State Guidance Counselor Association the Missouri State Teachers Association. He was director of the American Highland Cattle Association and the founder of the Regional Heartland Highland Cattle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of the home; his parents, Robert and Arlene Wolfgang, of Augusta, Wisc.; a sister, LaVonne Gooden, of Perry, Okla.; a foster brother, Dennis Nelson; five nephews; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Memorial services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, in the Montgomery-Viets Chapel, in Buffalo, with the Rev. Lawrence Holt officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Climax Springs Scholarship Fund at the funeral home.
Sam Humbyrd, 80

Samuel Jefferson Humbyrd entered God's heaven on Dec. 17, 2008.
Born in Portland, Ore. in 1928, Sam and his family later settled in Ava.
He taught school at Patterson and Goodhope Schools before marrying and moving to Michigan. He worked as a Safety and Security Supervisor at Dow Chemical Company for many years, before returning to Ava in 1998.
Sam is survived by his former wife, Alberta Brake Humbyrd; his children, Gary Humbyrd, Danny Humbyrd, Nancy Hull, Carol Humbyrd, and Judy Wright; his sisters, Rosa Carvella and Lucille Sanders; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Sam attended Ava General Baptist Church and will be dearly missed by family and friends, particularly his faithful McDonald's coffee buddies.
The funeral was held on Dec. 19 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, at 3 p.m., with visitation from 1 till 3 at the funeral home.
Burial was in the Ava Cemetery.

Terry L. Goodman, 49

Terry L. Goodman, the son of Ernest Goodman and Barbara (Buster) Goodman, was born Oct. 29, 1959 in Ocilla, Ga., and departed this life Jan. 20, 2009 at the age of 49 years 2 months and 29 days.
Terry was a former resident of Mansfield, and had just recently moved to Norwood. He was employed as a truck driver. Terry enjoyed NASCAR, football and all sports. He loved his children and family.
Terry went to Ava High School and attended college.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his children, Justin Heatherly, of Illinois, Nathan, Kyle and Jacob Goodman, all of Norwood; two brothers, David and Ernest Goodman, both of Ava; one sister, Wanda Dennis, Mansfield; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Les Hallmark officiating.
Memorials may be made as love offering to the children in care of the funeral home.
Leonard D. Sanders, 78

Leonard Doil Sanders, son of Burl T. and Bertha (Alcorn) Sanders, was born on April 29, 1930 in Douglas County, Mo., and departed this life on Jan. 6, 2009 in Seymour, Mo., at the age of 78 years.
Leonard was a resident of the Seymour community since 1994, moving from Ava, Mo.
On March 17, 1950 Leonard and Wilma Maxson were united in marriage in Ava, and to this union, three children were born.
Leonard served as Douglas County Sheriff for many years. He had also worked for White River Electric for over 20 years and he was a farmer.
Leonard was a member of the Black Oak General Baptist Church of Ava.
He enjoyed serving his community and loved his family dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clarence "Tom" Sanders.
His is survived by his wife, Wilma, of the home in Seymour; three children and their spouses, Leo and Theda Sanders, Leasburg, Mo., Marjorie and Murl Pierson, Mansfield, Mo., and Duane and Debbi Sanders, Seymour, Mo.; six grandchildren, Tritonia Sanders, Leslie Anne Coffman, Robert Pierson, Brittany, Christina and Brianna Sanders; three great-grandchildren, Travis E. Pierson, Josiah A. Coffman and Trevin M. Devore; two brothers, Loren Sanders, Davenport, Iowa, and Lester Sanders, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Leonard will be Friday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Revs. Jason Wharton and Oren Alcorn officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
The family requests memorials to the Douglas County Historical Society or to the donor's choice of charity.
Danny L. Dudley, 67

Danny Lee Dudley, Strafford, son of Marvin and Esther (Morrison) Dudley, was born Feb. 27, 1941 in Niangua, Mo., and departed this life Jan. 5, 2009, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield. At the time of his passing, he was 67 years of age.
On July 21, 1978, Danny was united in marriage to Joyce Clayton.
He attended Marshfield Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Esther Dudley; two sons, Marc Jones, and Kenny Jones; one daughter, Rhonda Lynn Dudley; two brothers, Elvin Dudley, and Howard Dudley; and three sisters, Leta, Emogene, and Christine.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of the home; two daughters, Cindy Jones, Miller, Mo., and Lorinda Phelps and Robert, St. Charles, Mo.; three sons, David Jones, Miller, Mo., Rory Dudley, state of Indiana, and Randy Dudley and Vickie, Ava, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
After retiring from Springfield Underground, Danny devoted his time toward running the family farm. He enjoyed spending his spare time playing music with his friends, fishing and hunting.
Services for Danny Lee Dudley will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Jan. 8) at Day Funeral Home, Marshfield, with Rev. Jack Day and Jack Dinwiddie officiating.
Burial will be in Copening Cemetery, Niangua.
Visitation was held from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Copening Cemetery fund and left with the funeral home.
John Marshall Jones, 70

John Marshall Jones, Gassville, Ark., son of Wendell Marshall and Tena Hazel (Snelson) Jones, was born Dec. 2, 1938 in Holly, Colo., and passed away Jan. 4, 2009 in Mountain Home, Ark., at the age of 70 years.
On April 24, 1972, he married Charlene (Zanzig) Lee in Lakeview, Ark.
He is survived by his wife Charlene of the home in Gassville, Ark.; one step-son Christopher Lee of Valparaiso, Ind.; three grandchildren; and two sisters Maxine Stewart, of Blue Springs, and Gloria Evans, of Noble.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Paul E. "Fuzzy" Gifford, the son of Charles Gifford and Mary (Keele) Gifford, was born Sept. 19, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and departed this life Jan. 1, 2009, at the age of 72 years 3 months and 12 days.
Memorial services were held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Gifford, state of Arkansas, and Kenneth Gifford, state of Iowa; one daughter, Cindy Tate, Ava; two grandchildren, Brandi and Tyler of Ava; a great-grandchild, Aidan, all of Ava; three sisters, Ellen Moody, Long Mont, Colo., and Clarice Williams and Priscilla Bowers, both of Springfield; one brother, Joe Keele, Cody, Wyo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

John J. Amtsfield, 79, of Brushy Knob, Mo., died Dec. 28, 2008 at his home.
John was born Oct 5, 1929 in Lansdowne, Pa., to Carl H. and Mary (Rhoads) Amtsfield.
He married Carole Kelley on July 30, 1949.
John is survived by his brother, Carl E. of Palm Beach, Fla.; sons John J., of Boyertown, Pa., and Douglas M. of Perkiomenville, Pa.; and daughters, Dawn Collison and Carole Faust, both of Brushy Knob, with whom he resided.
John has eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at Brushy Knob Church, junction of Highways 76 and C, on Sunday Jan. 11, at 6 p.m.
John was a printer by trade, and an avid birdwatcher and member of the Audubon Society. He was editor of the Unami Audubon Society Newsletter.
