Lois E. Hicks, 91, entered into peaceful rest on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at home with her family by her side.
She was born June 17, 1914, in Squires, the daughter of Samuel and Olive Thompson Scott.
She married Earl Hicks Nov. 30, 1937.
Lois loved being a mother to her children and grandchildren often times cooking huge meals for them and their spouses and grandchildren so they could all get together and visit and play their guitars and sing.
Lois is now with her Lord and Savior and is no longer suffering. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons Scott (Ruth), Blaine (Brenda), Jason (Donna) and one daughter Carol McCarter, all of Rochelle, Ill.; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one niece, Pamela (Bill) McDermott, of Kansas City; one nephew, Allen Rippee, of West Plains.
She was preceded in death by Earl; her parents; one brother, Blaine Scott; one sister, Edith Rippee; and an infant daughter Diane (Scott’s twin), and grandson, Gregory.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services at Harvest Baptist Church in Hillcrest, Ill.
Pastor James Adcock and the Rev. Keith Manly officiated.
Burial was at Trinity Memory Gardens.

Melinda Jane Kinyon, 54

Melinda Jane Kinyon, 54, of Chadwick, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, in Manor Care, Springfield.
She was born May 29, 1951, in Chadwick the daughter of Ermel and Clara (Marlin) Finney.
On June 27, 1968, Melinda was united in marriage to Steve Kinyon and to this union, four children were born.
Melinda was a kind, loving, thoughtful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for her family and sewing. Most of her life she resided in the Chadwick area and was employed at Third Street Sports Wear for 15 years.
Melinda is survived by her husband, Steve; her mother Clara Finney of Chadwick; two daughters Carlene Roberts and husband, Chris, and Angie Kinyon, all of Chadwick; two sons, Mike Kinyon and wife, Tabitha, of Springfield, and Marvin Kinyon and wife, Tamara of Jacksonville, Mo.; three brothers Dale, Daniel and David Finney; two sisters Wanda Gideon and Sue Peterson; 16 grandchildren, other caring relatives and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, one brother, Phillip Finney, and one grandson, Kobby Michael Kinyon.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in Union Chapel Church of Chadwick, with Pastor Bill Austin officiating under the care of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
Visitation and family time was held Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Barnes Family Funeral Home.
Shirley Elaine Kirby, 68

Shirley Elaine Kirby was born Sept. 21, 1937, the daughter of Albert Russell Loftin and Gara Newell Graham.
Shirley departed this life Oct. 3, 2005, at the age of 68.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of the Ava area.
In 1983, Shirley and J.B. Kirby were united in marriage in Miami, Okla.
She was employed as a cook for the Highway House Café.
Shirley attended Star Chapel and Black Oak Church.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, J. B. Kirby, her father, Albert Loftin, one sister, Earlene Chamberlain and two infant brothers.
Shirley is survived by her children, Albert Allen and Suzanne Clark, Ava, Debra McDonald and Clarance Hamilton, Syracuse, Mo., Janet Johnson, Taneyville, Daryl and Julie Gann, Springfield, Cheryl Gann and Jeremiah Myers, Ava, and Christopher Kirby, Ava; her mother, Gara Newell Graham Loftin, Ava; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ineta Gann, Hardwood, Mo., and Darlene Jenkins, St. Louis; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Services will be 10 a.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 6) in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Marvin Loftin officiating.
Interment will follow in the Loftin Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Albert L. Holman, 55

Albert L. Holman, 55, of Nevada, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at 7:02 p.m., at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin.
Albert was born Aug. 31, 1950, in Ava, the son of the late Florence Holman. He had been disabled all his life.
Albert is survived by several cousins including Doris Holman, and Jackie and Jearildene Holman, all of Ava, and Judy Stoll and Connie Duncan, both of Kansas.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary of Joplin.
No services are planned at this time.
Inurnment of ashes will be at a later date in Turkey Creek Cemetery, Ava.
Lealaena R. Holt, 19

Lealaena R. Holt was born April 8, 1986, at Mansfield. She entered into eternal rest Sept. 24, 2005, at the age of 19.
She graduated from West Plains High School with the class of 2004 and was attending Missouri State University.
On Oct. 31, 2003, she was married to Edmund Holt. To this union was born one son, Aedyn Holt.
She enjoyed family, and her favorite pastime was spent loving her son. Mrs. Holt was a Christian and enjoyed the time she worshipped in church.
Laena is survived by her husband, Eddie Holt, and son, Aedyn, of the family home; her mother, Rebecca Hallmark, West Plains; her father, Paul, of Newport Beach, Calif.; her grandmother Verla Hallmark, Ava; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Tanya Holt, West Plains; uncles Michael Hammon and family, Ava, Joe Hallmark and family, Marshfield, and Les Hallmark and family, Ava; aunts Lesley Ann Lathum and family, Gainesville, Lorrie D. Hallmark and family, Mansfield, and Lisa and family, of the Holts, West Plains.
Her family also represents many cousins with whom she shared much love and joyful times.
Memorial services were held in Rose Chapel at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains, with a full house of friends attending and the Rev. Les Hallmark speaking the memorial and gospel message.
Graveside closing message was given in Oak Lawn Cemetery, West Plains, by the Rev. Francis Warren.
George Stone, 92

George Charles Stone, the son of David Pate Stone and Margaret (Strong) Stone, was born April 16, 1913, in Rippee, Mo., and departed this life Oct. 3, 2005, at the age of 92.
George was a life-long resident of the area.
On Jan. 5, 1944 George and Celesta Hodges were united in marriage in St. Joseph, and to this union, five children were born.
George was a farmer in the Bertha area all of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, "whittlin", singing, playing music, telling tall tales, and visiting with all his friends.
Survivors include his wife, Celesta, of the home, Ava; four sons, Butch and wife, Dawn Stone, Mutt Stone, Mike and Debbie Stone, and Danny Stone, all of Ava; one daughter, Connie Stone, Ava; one grandson, Darren Stone, Ava; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alvin Stone and Edward Stone, four sisters, Ella Ferguson, Elizabeth Curtis, Mary Medlock, Dorothy Hodges and Bertha Stone.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Yates Cemetery Pavilion, with E. J. Hampton officiating.
Services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Jimmy Arlin Thompson, 67

Jimmy Arlin Thompson, the son of Wilbur Milo Thompson and Annie Jane Hathcock Thompson, was born on Dec. 28, 1937, in Dora, Mo., and passed away in his home on Sept. 28, 2005, at the age of 67.
Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Douglas County. He was the Douglas County Commissioner for 12 years.
On Aug. 22, 1975, Jimmy and Lois Moss were united in marriage in Wright County.
He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army. Jimmy was member of the Bethany Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Post 112. He so loved going to church and being with his family. He also was a member of the Sporting Dogs Assoc. Jimmy loved to hunt and ride horses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Beulah Thompson, Arlene Thompson and Lorene Grisham, and two brothers, Roy and Arlis Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, of the home in Drury; nine children and their spouses, Fredrick Thompson and Jimmy Lee Thompson, both of Kansas, Larry and LeaAnn Thompson, Everton, Ronnie Thompson, Dora, Debbie Stamper, Fort Leonard Wood, Mary and Richard Turnbull, Mtn. Grove, Gary Thompson, Vanzant, Cindy Boehm, Salem, Ark., and Danny Thompson, Atlanta, Ga.; two stepchildren, Joyce and David Kern, Pekin, Ill., and Steve Massey, Fordland; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with the Rev. Scott Miller officiating.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Home Cemetery near Drury.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Johnny Calvin Davis, 79

Johnny Calvin Davis, 79, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died at his home Sept. 22, 2005. Davis was born Oct. 20, 1925, in Ava, and was the son of Warren C. and Julie A. Bearden Davis.
Davis was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in Germany for two years. After the war, he became a carpenter and cabinet maker.
He married Wanda Jean Riley in Bentonville, Ark., on March 1, 1993.
He was a member of the Springdale chapter of the Audubon Club and was a square dancer. Davis was also a member of various bridge clubs where he played and taught bridge.
He is survived by a sister, Ella Hutchison, of Ava; four children, Cheryl Pakzad, of San Diego, Calif., Colleen Lienen, of Davenport, Iowa, Layne Davis, Loveland, Colo., and Tom Davis, Inman, S.C.; three stepchildren, Darryl Visser, Elizabethtown, Tenn., Greg Visser, Butler, Tenn., and Vicki Gemmell, Capibella, S.C.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Cremation arrangements were made under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Ark.
Ina (Burris) Rogers, 94

Ina (Burris) Rogers entered into rest peacefully, Sept. 26, 2005, surrounded by her family at the Hospice Chaplaincy in Kennewick, Wash.
Ina was born Jan. 24, 1911, to James Wesley and Anna (Andrews) Burris in Ava. She was 94 years old.
She lived in Douglas County for 88 years.
She and her husband, Edgar, were married Dec. 3, 1945.
They owned and operated a dairy farm until they retired in 1972. Ina enjoyed her life in Missouri. Edgar and Ina worked side by side clearing their land with broad axes. Over the years they expanded their farm into a dairy operation. In the 1950's they built a new home with timber from their land.
She loved her life on the farm.
After the death of her husband of 57 years she moved to Kennewick, Wash., to be close to her daughters. She enjoyed her time in Washington, but always longed for her home in Ava. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, embroidering, crocheting and preserving fruits and vegetables from her garden. She had a quick wit and a sharp pen. She wrote many poems and stories for the Douglas County Herald. She loved to talk and share her stories with friends and family.
Ina is preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepson, two sons-in-law, a grandson, six sisters and four brothers.
Ina has two daughters, Alice (Stanifer) Reser and Margaret (Stanifer) Reser both of Kennewick, Wash., and one stepson, William Rogers (deceased). Her grandchildren and spouses are: Leroy (deceased) and Laberta Reser, Jack and Frances Reser, Mike and Donna (Reser) Smith, Rick and Lori Reser and Ron and Brenda (Reser) Bennett; step- grandchildren, Bob and Cindy (Rogers) Adkisson, Ron and Debbie Rogers, Mike and Terri Rogers and Daphanie Rogers; great-grandchildren, Bob, Richard, Ronnie, April and Allen Reser, Cameron Bennett, Tracey and Michael Smith; step-great-grandchildren, Josh, Jesse, Jeff and Estacia Rogers, Melissa Dodge and Casey Delp; great-great grandchildren, Brittany, Richie, Andrew, Shasta and Keenan Reser, Seth Florman; step-great-great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Abby Rogers, and Isaac Dodge.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including her favorite nieces, Lula Lakey, and Laverne Walker and her husband, Raymond, who have been a special part of her life.
Services will be held Friday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m., at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Raymond Haden officiating.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Ava Cemetery.
Christina Marie Harper, 33

Christina Marie Harper, daughter of Robert Steven Harper and Mary Ann Johnson was born on June 16, 1972 in Redondo Beach, CA and passed away on October 9, 2005 in Seymour, MO, at the age of 33 years, 2 months and 23 days.
Chris was a homemaker and recently moved to Gainesville to be with her family. She formerly lived in Ava. Chris enjoyed the outdoors and liked to camp. She was a good mother, sister and daughter and loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Harper.
Her survivors include her two children, Robert Steven Harper and Rhia Ann Heinlen both of Gainesville, MO, her mother, Mary Ann Cosby, Gainesville, one sister, Sabrina Bogard, Seymour, MO and other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, 2:00 P.M. at the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.
Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
