Faye (Sherrill) Hogan, 77, passed away Nov. 23, 2005, in her home at Merriam, Kan.
She was born Dec. 27, 1927, with her twin sister, Raye, to Eddie and Dora Rosezilla (Thurman) Sherrill.
In August 1950, she married Robert L. Hogan, and to this union, one son was born.
Faye was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a Christian. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and shopping at garage sales and thrift stores with her good friend, Glee. She also enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; one son, Ed; both parents; one brother; and six sisters.
Faye is survived by one daughter-in-law, Pearl Hogan; one grandson, Robert J. Hogan; and one granddaughter, Kathyrn Hogan, all of Merriam, Kan.; two brothers-in-law, Norman King, of Ava, and Dan Hogan, of Richmond; two sisters-in-law, Connie Sherrill, of Ava, and Mary Ann Hogan, of Richmond; other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. B.J. Evans officiating.
Visitation was at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Oakland, Ark.
Noel R. Lemmon, 78
Dec. 1, 2005
Noel R. Lemmon, son of George Peter Lemmon and Wilma Grace Mackey Lemmon, was born on Oct. 20, 1927, in Springfield, and passed away on Nov. 25, 2005 in his home in Ava, at the age of 78 years.
Noel was a resident of the Ava community for most of his life. He was a farmer and also an electrician and general carpenter with his father in Kansas City, and later in Ava, for several years. Noel was employed at the Douglas County Court House for several years and also worked for the Ava Recycling Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by cousins and many friends.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating.
A graveside service will be held today (Thursday) at 3:30 p.m. at the Turkey Creek Cemetery, Walnut Grove, conducted by Wilson-Brim-Daniel Funeral Home, Ash Grove.
Local arrangements were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Lloyd "Yoke" Jennings, 81

Lloyd "Yoke" Jennings was born Oct. 13, 1924 in McClurg, the son of James Jason Jennings and Carrie (Jones) Jennings, and departed this life on Nov. 29, 2005 in Springfield, at the age of 81.
Lloyd was a lifelong resident of the McClurg area where he lived on the family farm.
On Nov. 28, 1947, Lloyd and Louise Mitchell were united in marriage in Harrison, Ark. To this union, two daughters were born.
Lloyd served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. He was employed with the U.S. Forest Service as a forestry technician and retired after 31 years of service; he was also a farmer.
Lloyd accepted Christ and was a Christian.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
His survivors include his wife, Louise, of the home; two daughters and their husbands, Becky and Randall Cummings, and Linda and Lonnie Combs, all of Brown Branch; five grandchildren, Shelly, Stacey, Justin, Marlana and Mitch; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Gray, of Nebraska, and Wanda Christensen, Vacaville, Calif.; one brother, Orville Jennings, Roseville, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Bill Austin officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, with full military service by the American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral Home.
The family requests memorials to Gideons International or the American Diabetes Association.
Lewis W. Lansdown, 83

Lewis Lansdown the son of Samuel Stokley Lansdown and Hester Ann (Miller) Lansdown was born May 27, 1922, in Squires, and departed this life Nov. 25, 2005, at the age of 83.
Lewis was a resident of the Ava area for the past 19 years moving here from Rogersville. He was a farmer and was employed as a custodian for the Missouri State University.
Lewis was a World War II veteran. He loved coon hunting, playing pitch, but most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Lewis and Julia Mae Davis were united in marriage June 29, 1946, in Mtn. Home, Ark. Lewis and Julia were blessed with two daughters.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five brothers, Troy, Abner, Marion, Leroy and Martin; and four sisters, Bessie Schindler, Oma Davis, Eunice Turner and Ada Graham.
He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Atchison and husband, Herman, and Sheryl Medlock and husband, Billy, all of Ava; grandchildren, Russell and Jaime Grider, Erin and Benjie Hurd, Robin and Gary Mitchell, Lori Grider and Heath Grider; great-grandchildren, Dalton Grider, Benjamin, Adam and Briar Hurd, Kevin and Ely Mitchell; one brother, Ira Lansdown, Midway, Ark.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Tom Johnson and Oren Alcorn officiating.
Interment was in the Murray Cemetery.
Military graveside services were conducted by American Legion Post 112 and V.F.W. 5993.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Murray Cemetery.
James Thomas “Jim” Wilson, 61

James Thomas Wilson, son of James Henry Wilson and Dorothy Thomas Wilson, was born on Oct. 11, 1944, in Vallejo, Calif., and passed away on Nov. 22, 2005 in Ava, at the age of 61.
Jim was a resident of the Ava area for the past four years moving from Lebanon, where he worked for Wal-Mart.
On October 10, 1992, Jim and Nancy Green were united in marriage in Lebanon.
He served his country in the Army Reserves. Jim enjoyed fishing, boat riding, camping and playing pool.
He was preceded in death by his father.
His survivors include his wife, Nancy, of the home in Ava; one son, Robbie Wilson, and one daughter, Lisa Wilson, both of Acampo, Calif.; his mother, Dorothy Wilson, Lowry City; four stepsons, Michael Green, Ava, Johnnie Drennon, Marshfield, and Charles and Teddy Drennon both of Lebanon; one grandson, Mitchell Wilson; 11 step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Ada Geneva Coonts Wagner

Ada Geneva Coonts Wagner, daughter of William T. and Zada Rhoades Coonts, passed away Nov. 8 at West Valley Hospital in Caldwell, Idaho.
Funeral services were held Nov. 12 at the Nazarene Church in Parma, Idaho.
Ada has lots of cousins living in Ava and Douglas County.

Wilma Jeanne (Adams) Fossett, 66

Wilma Jeanne (Adams) Fossett passed away this past Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at the age of 66, following a battle with leukemia and a recent surgery.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Fossett; her children, Alan Fossett, Leon Fossett, and Gwen Dean, grandchildren, Leon Fossett,. Jr., Shaun Fossett, Amy Fossett, Rachel Dean and William Dean; and her great-grandson, Nathan; she is also survived by her mother, Willene Adams; her brothers, Adrian, Robert, Stanley, Howard, and David; and her sister, Irene Swearingen.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charley Adams, and brother, Chuck Adams.
Wilma was born April 26, 1939 in Augusta, Kan., and raised near Ava. She moved to Corcoran, Calif., in 1957, to live with her brother, Adrian and his wife, Wanda, and met her husband, Lawrence Fossett, while living and working there.
After they married (Nov. 7, 1959), they lived for a time in Corcoran and on the Fossett family farm near Waukena.
In 1966, they moved to Martinez, Calif., and then to Antioch, Calif. in 1969. They lived there until they both retired, then moved to Los Osos, Calif. in 2003.
Wilma was converted at an early age and joined the Red Bank Baptist Church. She was a 1957 graduate of Ava High School.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 28, at l:30 p.m. at the Bledsoe-Peoples Funeral Home in Corcoran, Calif.
A graveside service followed in the Corcoran Cemetery.
Sandra Sue Vonallmen, 56

Sandra Sue Vonallmen, daughter of Milo Denton and Rose Parnell Denton, was born on Oct. 17, 1949 in Thayer, and entered into Heaven on Nov. 13, 2005 at the age of 56 years.
Sandra was a resident of the Ava community for 34 years, moving from West Plains.
On April 7, 1968, Sandra and Jerry Vonallmen were united in marriage in West Plains and to this union, two daughters were born.
She was a cook for the Ava Elementary School for 15 years.
Sandra was a member of the Roy Union Church where her husband is pastor, and assisted him in his ministry. She loved her family and cherished every moment with them.
Sandra loved singing with her daughters and husband in their family quartet. She also loved her church family and working in the church, singing, worshiping and praying for others. She truly loved her Lord and her life was a living testimony for Jesus.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Milo Denton, and one sister, Susan Kate Manes.
Her survivors include her husband, Jerry of the home in Ava; two daughters and their husbands, Melanie and Kelvin Whittaker, Bradleyville, and Melinda and Robert Hall, Ava; one granddaughter, Hailey Sue Hall; her mother, Rose (Parnell) Denton, Mammoth Springs, Ark.; two nieces, Michelle Buchanan and Lacey Lingenfelter; and several other family and friends.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Ava Cemetery with the Revs. Dennis and Ricky Vonallmen officiating.
The family requests memorials be made to Gideons International or American Cancer Society.

Charles Nelson Woody, 86
Nov. 17, 2005
Charles Nelson Woody, 86, of Ozark, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, in his home.
He was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Weatherby, Mo., the son of Charles E. and Jennie O. (Fisher) Woody.
On July 3, 1941, Nelson was united in marriage with the love of his life, Rebecca Jane Brown.
On Oct. 13, 1942, Nelson entered the military with the United States Army and later trained as an aircraft mechanic. During his World War II assignment, and overseas tour, Nelson survived an aircraft crash and a long, dangerous journey through the deep jungle of Burma. By the end of the war, Nelson had recorded a total of 141 flying hours, including 54 combat flying hours, had been promoted to staff sergeant and was a fully qualified flight engineer.
On Dec. 29, 1945, Nelson received an honorable discharge along with certificates and letters of appreciation from General Arnold of the Air Force, commander of the Army Air Corps and President Harry S. Truman.
On Jan. 8, 1947, Nelson entered into the National Trade School in Kansas City, to take a course in plumbing. He graduated in September 1947, and began a career that lasted more than 34 years. Nelson took retirement in 1981, and he and Rebecca moved to the Ozarks to be closer to area relatives.
Nelson was a continuous caregiver to Rebecca during her illness and a loving husband for almost 60 years. Nelson was a true "Hero" to every member of his family, always gentle, caring, loving and sincere.
Nelson was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca, on Nov. 16, 2000. Also preceding him in death, were his parents and a brother Lyle Woody.
Nelson is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and several caring friends.
Graveside funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the Yates Cemetery where Nelson was laid to rest beside his loving wife Rebecca.
Full military honors were provided by the National Guard’s Bravo Team, Springfield.
Funeral services were under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark, with Nelson's nephew John B. Reece officiating.
Fred A. Burk, 84
Dec. 15, 2005
Fred A. Burk was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Ada, Okla., and peacefully passed from this life on Dec. 10, 2005, in Springfield. He was a faithful member of the First General Baptist Church of Springfield.
He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and served his country in the Coast Guard during World War II. Fred was a carpenter with Burk Bridge Company prior to his retirement.
Fred enjoyed his family, friends, and church. He spent hours in his workshop using his talents to turn pieces of wood into works of art. He liked thinking of ways to make things better with practical and creative solutions.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Burk; his daughters, Betsy Earls and husband, Doug, and Tina Sibley and husband, Nick. He enjoyed his granddaughter, Anna, and grandson, Captain. He is also survived by a sister, Jean Tabor, and a brother, Leo Burk, whom he especially enjoyed being with.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and five brothers.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
Burial was at 1 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
