Bonnie Henrietta Williams, 85

Bonnie Henrietta Williams, daughter of Walter and Stella I. (Lakey) Fitzgerald, was born Nov. 7, 1920, in Pansy, Mo., and departed this life Jan. 5, 2006, in her home at Ava, at the age of 85.

Bonnie was a lifelong resident of the Ava area.

On April 1, 1939, Bonnie and Carl Williams were united in marriage in Ava. Bonnie and Carl were blessed with four children.

Bonnie and her husband operated the Breeden Store for 25 years. She was also employed with Chastain’s Nursing Home, which is now Heart of the Ozarks, as a cook until her retirement. Bonnie was a member of the Breeden Freewill Baptist Church.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; one son, Norman; two grandchildren, Brad Hadeen and Angie Williams; her parents; three brothers, Merman, Herman and Emra; and one sister, Vonice Rose.

She is survived by one son, Wilson Williams, Springfield; two daughters, Dessie Ludwig, Ava, and Roberta Hadeen, Berryville, Ark.; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Zora Fitzgerald and Stella Fitzgerald both of Seymour, Nola Gifford, Ava, Genevieve Wallace, Bettendorf, Iowa, Doris Woods, Long Lane, and Erma Lee Lupton, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Lee Hampton and Joe "Cub" Lafferty officiating.

Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery.

Betty D. Gott, 76

Betty D. Gott, age 76, of Upland, Calif., lost her battle of 18 months with cancer and passed away Dec. 20, 2005, at her home surrounded by her family members at her side.

She was born in Clever and was an Ontario/Upland resident for the past 53 years. She was a graduate of Clever High School class of 1947.

She was a member of San Antonio Heights Community Church in Upland, Calif.

She and her husband, Wallace, founded W.D. Gott Construction Co., and worked side by side from 1956 to the present.

Betty is survived by her husband, Wallace D. Gott, of Upland, Calif.; her sons, Michael Gott, Upland, Calif., and Terry Gott, of Victorville, Calif; a daughter, Connie Gott, of Upland, Calif.; a sister, Helen Creiger, Fallbrook, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Janelle Cox, Betsy West, Robert Gott, Leslie Nilson, Bryan Gott, Christine Rodriguez and Erin Gott; and is survived by eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur K. Carden; her mother, Rosa Laney and step-father, Archie Laney; her sisters, Ethel Parsons, Hazel Joplin, Erma Wucherpfennig, Pearl Draper and her brother, George Carden.

Visitation was held Dec. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Draper Mortuary.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. at the Draper Memorial Chapel, Ontario, Calif.

Interment was in Bellevue Memorial Park, Ontario, Calif.

Miriam L. Rasch, 64

Miriam Lee Rasch, 64, Ava, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

She was born Nov. 28, 1941, in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Charles Raymond and Doris Elizabeth (Gammon) Cates.

On Dec. 9, 1961, she was united in marriage to James Donald Rasch.

Miriam’s life was characterized by compassion, sensitivity, love and a caring and giving spirit. She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, and a faithful Christian. Her church membership was in Rugby Hills Baptist Church of Memphis, Tenn., but she presently attended Goodhope General Baptist Church of Ava.

Miriam also enjoyed cooking, family time and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by husband Jim Rasch; one son, Donny Rasch and wife, Josie, of Ava; four daughters, Yvonne Dilley and husband Wayne, of Ava, Virginia “Gen” Giles and husband, Dugan, of Ellsinore, Lynn Watson and husband, Larry, of Norwich, Ohio, and Sheila Bunch and husband, Kevin, of Blue Springs; two sisters, Ida Mae Miller and husband, Ronald, of Millington, Tenn., and Charleen King and husband, Bud, of Batesville, Miss.; two brothers, Charles Cates, Cold Water, Miss., and Maurice Cates and wife, Cheryl, of Alapaha, Ga.; a dear cousin, Gen Caldwell, of Memphis, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and caring friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, in Goodhope General Baptist Church in Ava under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Bob Huskey officiating.

Burial followed in Ava Cemetery.

Alford James "A.J." Marx, 77

Alford James "A.J." Marx, son of J.A. Marx and Lena Turner Marx, was born on June 12, 1928 in Cleburne, Texas, and passed away Dec. 31, 2005, in Ava, at the age of 77.

A.J. was a resident of Ava since 2003, moving from Cedar Creek, Texas.

He was a retired general carpenter and was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

On Dec. 24, 2002, A.J. and Wanda Brown were united in marriage in Bastrop, Texas.

A.J. was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, of Ava.

A.J. loved to fish and hunt and visit with his friends and family.

He enjoyed watching all the animals from his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, one sister and a step-granddaughter, Kyra Votaw.

His survivors include his wife, Wanda, of the home in Ava; three stepchildren and their spouses, Martin and Kandice Spoelstra, LaGrange, Texas, Jennifer and Jeff Votaw, West Point, Texas, and Belinda and Jeffery McCardle, Vinton, La.; five step-grandchildren, Hunter, Kyle, Kami, Kasey and Jason; nephews, Shawn, Kelly and Dennis King, Wimberly, Texas; two brothers, Harvey Marx, Needville, Texas, and Clint Marx, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Tom Maples officiating.

Graveside service will be Friday, Jan. 6, at 11:15 a.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.

The family requests memorials be made as love offerings at the funeral home.

Mandy Marlene Hampton, 17

Mandy Marlene Hampton was born Feb. 13, 1988, in Springfield, and departed this life Dec. 30, 2005 at the age of 17.

Mandy was the daughter of David and Terinda (Everett) Hampton and Mike Hampton of Ava.

Mandy was a lifelong resident of Ava, and a senior at Ava High School.

Mandy attended Ava General Baptist Church and Highway Church of the Nazarene.

She was very active in various clubs and loved and played all sports. She was the star of the basketball and volleyball teams.

Some of her sports accomplishments include: volleyball—1st team SCA all-conference 2004 and 2005 seasons, team MVP 2004 and 2005 seasons, 1st team all-district tournament 2004 and 2005 seasons; basketball—2004-2005 season 1st team SCA all-conference, 2004-2005 all-district basketball team, 2005, Christmas Classic at Lebanon all-tournament team, 2004 West Plains basketball Thanksgiving Tournament all-tournament team, 2004 and 2005 Lebanon Tournament all-tournament teams.

Her other school activities and accomplishments include: Student Council four years, National Honor Society, three years, A+ tutoring, Spanish Club two years, FCA, M-Pac, TREND, and FCCLA, one year. She served as a Pee Wee Basketball coach, Small Stars Volleyball coach, Pep Club Super Fan three years (chick original), and was a football Homecoming candidate in 2005.

Mandy also excelled and achieved many awards in clog dancing.

Mandy was preceded in death by her grandfather, Dorn Everett, and a nephew Michael Nelson.

She is survived by her parents David and Terinda Hampton and Mike Hampton, of Ava; brothers and sisters, Nick King, Tracy Nelson, Rex Hampton, Trampus Hampton, Lacy Hampton, Kelsey Hampton and Chelsey Barnum, all of Ava; her grandparents, Mabel Everett, Norma Bogart, Larry Hampton and Jeanne Huff, all of Ava, and Raymond Hampton, Sparta; nieces and nephews, Drake and Blake King, Jasper, Konner and Chandelyn Nelson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, in the Ava High School Gym with Rev. Oren Alcorn, Rev. Buddy Boyd and Rev. Dwain Moore officiating.

Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Mandy Hampton Scholarship Fund at Ava First Home Savings Bank of Ava or at the funeral home.

Virgil Lowell Adams, 84

Virgil Lowell Adams, the son of Luther Adams and Mary (Baird) Adams, was born Aug. 23, 1921, in McClurg, and departed this life Dec. 28, 2005, at the age of 84.

Virgil was a lifelong resident of the McClurg community.

He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army.

On Oct. 10, 1942, Virgil and Pauline Southards were united in marriage in Selah, Wash. Virgil and Pauline were blessed with six children.

Virgil was employed with the U.S. Forest Service, Fasco Industries and in farming.

He enjoyed gardening, riding his four-wheeler, hunting and being with all of his family.

Virgil was saved and later baptized in 1999 by Floyd Roberts.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Lester, and a sister, Betty.

Virgil is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pauline; six children and their spouses, Shirley and John Scisciani, Nixa, Darrell and Beverly Adams, Springfield, Kenny and Evelyn Adams, Ava, Jackie and Gail Adams, Bradleyville, Steve and Jenny Adams, Ava, Sherry and Jr. (Mike) Twenter, Lamar; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two on the way; one brother, Neal Adams, McClurg; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava with the Revs. John Lee Comer and Riley Hall officiating.

Interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery.

Jesse V. Davis, 83

Jesse V. Davis, son of Neal Davis and Bertha Brown Davis, was born on Oct. 7, 1922, in Douglas County, and departed this life on Jan. 2, 2006, in Ava Place, Ava, at the age of 83 years.

Jesse was a resident of the Ava Place since its beginning.

He was a graduate of Valley Nebraska High School. He was a truck driver and also worked in construction. He spent his adult life in many parts of the U.S.A., including Alaska.

Jesse was an Army veteran and served his country in World War II. He loved visiting with all his friends and family.

Jesse was a Christian.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lloyd Davis, and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Flynn.

He is survived by three sisters, Wilma (Davis) Flynn and Geraldine (Davis) Hailey and husband, Edwin, all of Ava, and Barbara Jean Mitchell and husband, Clint, Broken Arrow, Okla.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m., at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.

Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery.

Visitation was from 1 p.m. until service time on Wednesday.

The family requests memorials be made to Community Hospice or Ava Place.

Ailene Adams, 78

Margaret Ailene Adams, daughter of James Arthur Cunningham and Della Melinda (Hicks) Cunningham, was born July 15, 1927, in Brown Branch, and departed this life Dec. 27, 2005 at the age of 78.

Ailene was a resident of the area since 1955, moving here from Springfield. Ailene was post mistress and operated the general store at McClurg until its closing.

On March 24, 1955, Ailene and Lester Adams were united in marriage in Ozark.

Ailene enjoyed hosting the Monday night music party at McClurg for 20 years, loved cooking and gardening and giving to others.

She was a member the Bethel Church.

Ailene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester, one son, Charles Dwyer and grandson Chuck Adams, one brother Gerald Cunningham, and one sister, Lavera Nelson.

Ailene is survived by grandson, Bryon Johnson, Springfield; two step-grandchildren, Shelly and Travis Stamper, Norwood; a long-time friend, Lonnie Taber; one sister, Betty DeBoy, Springfield; a half brother, Charles Caldwell Yakima, Wash.; a niece, Sue Carlin; a nephew Ronald Caldwell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Randy Dalton officiating.

Interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Cemetery Fund at the funeral home.

David Michael Racobs, 53

David Michael Racobs, 53, of Sloan, Iowa, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, of injuries suffered in an accident at the AGP Soybean Processing Plant in Port Neal, near Salix, Iowa.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 23, at Wood Funeral Chapel in Sloan, Iowa.

Burial was in the Sloan Cemetery.

David was born Feb. 14, 1952, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Forrest William and Irene Joyce (Mercer) Racobs.

He had been a resident of the Sloan area since 1966. He graduated from Westwood High School in 1970.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1974 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was employed as a boiler operator at the AGP Soybean Processing Plant in Port Neal for 30 years and 4 months.

David enjoyed visiting his sister's home east of Ava and hunting with the "gang" each November. He was an avid reader and movie buff.

Survivors include a brother, William "Bill" Burton Racobs of Castana, Iowa; a sister, Judith Elaine and Ransell Hutchison, of Norwood, Mo.; two nephews, Michael Wayne Racobs and Mark Andrew Racobs; three nieces, Kelly Leon Racobs, and Ronelle and Danny Carzoli and Lisa Gay England.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Seri Ann Hutchison in 1996.

William Dole “Bill” Taber, 97

William Dole “Bill” Taber, 97, died Dec. 5, 2005, in Caldwell, Idaho.

He was born Nov. 15, 1908, in Douglas County and leaves lots of friends and family in the Douglas County area.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, Idaho, with Pastor Troy Hooper of Caldwell Christian Church officiating.

Interment was in Canyon Hill Cemetery.

Masonic rites were conducted by Mount Moriah Lodge No. 39 AF&AM.
