Dale LeRoy Cox, son of Orval and Effie Marie Fleetwood Cox, was born Sept. 21, 1938, south of Seymour.
He departed this life Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, in his home, in Seymour, at the age of 67.
On Feb. 7, 1958, he was united in marriage to Macel Marlean Keen at Roy Union Church, in Roy, Mo., and to this union, two sons and two daughters were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Wayne Cox, in 1987.
Dale is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Macel, of the home; three children, Barbara Mae Pohl and her husband, Richard Pohl, Jr., of Seymour, Jerry Paul Cox and his wife, Janet, of Seymour, and Rebecca Dalene Wiggins and her companion, Clint Misemer, of Seymour; seven grandchildren, Heather Dawn Wilkerson and her husband, Barty, of Seymour, William Richard Pohl and his wife, Christina, of Springfield, Austin Dale Pohl, of Seymour, Jodi Ann Cox and her companion, Thomas Jensen, of Seymour, Chance Dewayne Cox, of Seymour, Douglas Jay Wiggins, of Seymour, and Crystal Jade Misemer, of Seymour; three great-grandchildren, Ella Kara Wilkerson, David Richard LeRoy Wilkerson, and Broque Alec Thomas Jensen, all of Seymour; three step great-grandchildren, Jesse and Bethane Wilkerson, of Seymour, and Aubrey Woodward, of Louisburg, Mo.; four brothers, Keith Wayne Cox, of Hyrum, Utah, Glen William Cox and best friend, Ilona, of Springfield, Doyle Lee Cox and his wife, Mona, of Mansfield, and Ronald Ray Cox, of Ava; a brother-in-law, Troy Lee Keen, of Ava; a number of nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Ava community and attended Ava Schools where he met Macel their freshmen year in high school. They remained in Ava until 26 years ago when they moved to Seymour.
Dale was saved at revival in January 1958 at Roy Union Church. He then pastored many churches including, Beaver Valley Full Gospel in Ava, Sunshine Pentecostal in Hartville, Christian Outreach in Seymour, and Murray Church in Squires. He loved preaching God's word, and singing with his wife, Macel, and playing his guitar at church. He was also a member of Bible Way Association.
He worked at Hutchens Steel Processors, of Seymour and Mansfield for 30 years, retiring Dec. 31, 2000. He also farmed and raised beef cattle. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting with his dogs, fishing, and farming and he loved spending time with his family.
Dale was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Seymour with the Rev. Garry Hall officiating.
Burial was in Seymour Masonic Cemetery.
William Ray “Bill” Cassy, 58

William Ray Cassy, son of Arthur Ray and Emma Louise LaFollette Cassy, was born October 5, 1947, in Walnut Shade, Missouri, and he departed this life Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, in his home in Ava,, at the age of 58 years.
Bill was raised in Seymour, and graduated with honors from Seymour High School in the Class of 1965.
Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Army and served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War.
He was united in marriage to Jean Marie Brown on Oct. 8, 1976, and together they shared the last 29 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his 14-year old son, Christopher Lloyd Cassy, in 1992; and a sister, Aleta Sue Langston.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie, of the home; two sons, Shane Cassy, of the home, and William Ray Cassy, Jr., and his wife Michele, of Jones, Ala.; two step-sons, Michael Watkins and companion Erin, of Kingsport, Tenn., and Joshua Watkins and his companion Tammy, of Leeton, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Justine, Melissa, Christopher, Lisa, Miranda, Zach, Dakota and Angelique; four sisters, Debra Henry and her companion Randy Caudill, of Springfield, Connie West and her husband Gene, and Edith Moore, all of Ozark, and Joyce Perrin and her husband Bobby, of Mansfield; a brother-in-law, Danny Langston, of Grovespring, Mo.; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
After Bill completed his military service, he lived in Florida, for many years where he was a night manager of a bowling center and then worked as a painter of water towers in the Midwest and southern states and worked as a rough and finishing carpenter. He and his family moved back to Ava to make their home two years ago after he became disabled.
Bill had made his profession of faith in Christ and followed the Baptist faith throughout his life.
In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. in the Holman-Howe Chapel in Seymour, with Rev. Roy Cantrell officiating.
Burial followed with full military honors by Webster County Veterans Memorial Association in Seymour Masonic Cemetery.
His son, Christopher, who was cremated, will be laid to rest with his father.
Shirley Faye (King) Fleetwood, 51

Shirley Faye King Fleetwood, the daughter of Wendell and Linda J. King was delivered by her father on Dec. 29, 1954 during one of the worst snowstorms in Meeker, Okla., and departed this life on Jan. 26, 2006, losing her courageous battle with cancer.
In 1978, she married Hershal Dale Fleetwood, her best friend.
Shirley attended Ava High School and moved to Springfield in 1978.
She was a member of the Ava United Methodist Church.
Shirley embraced her life doing the things she loved most, she enjoyed being with her family, babysitting grandchildren, growing flowers, and helping her husband at work. She was never afraid to take a risk, like skydiving in her forties. She had a smile that would light up a room and a laugh that would tickle your heart.
Shirley was preceded in death by her two grandfathers, Vern King and Ray Trent, and one grandmother, Winifred Trent.
She is survived by her husband, Hershal of the home; daughter, Christy and Pat Storie, of Willard, and son and daughter, Trent and Shiann of the home.
She is also survived by one grandmother, Easter King; her parents, Wendell and Linda J. King; three brothers, Lendell and Linda Sue, Steve and Alesia, Glen and Cindy; one sister, Bonnie and husband Neal Barnes; two grandsons, Marty Storie and Trent Fleetwood Jr.; one granddaughter Madilyn Storie, and one “other daughter” Angie. She is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces and relatives and friends.
She had a close and unique bond with each and everyone. She was loved by many and missed by all.
A Memorial service will be held at the Ava United Methodist Church Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Greg Dowler and Rev. Lin Stern officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lawrence Clifton Hampton, 58

Lawrence Clifton Hampton, the son of Clifton Etcyl Hampton and Althea R. (Tindle) Hampton, was born Nov. 18, 1947 in Goodhope, and departed this life Jan. 25, 2006 at the age of 58.
Lawrence was raised in the Goodhope community and was a resident of Sparta for several years. He was formerly employed with Hagales, Rawlings and Zenith. He enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his dog, Sissy, and he also loved hunting and fishing and most of all being with his family.
Lawrence was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church of Sparta.
On Nov. 4, 1990 Lawrence Hampton and Connie Crumm Harris were united in marriage in Oldfield.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Roger, and three grandsons, Tyler, Daniel and Derrick.
He is survived by his wife, Connie of the home; his mother, Althea Hampton, Ava; four children and their spouses, Anthony Shockey and Lisa, St. Joe, Ark., Ginger Chaney, Blue Eye, Lora Rains and Bill, Highlandville, LaVina Stacy and Johnathan, Berryville, Ark.; two stepsons, Michael Harris, stationed in Washington, and Lynn Harris, Branson; his siblings, Raymond Hampton and Peggy, Janet Watkins and AB, Denny Hampton and Becky, Judy Goodson and John, all of Sparta, Becky Davis and Donnie, Ozark, Jeff Hampton and Sheila, Oldfield and Tina Trent and Ronnie, Ava and many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Gilbert Spencer and Don Graham officiating.
Interment was in the Goodhope Cemetery.
Ralph Henry McColgan, 77

Ralph Henry McColgan, son of Harry McColgan and Iva (Summers) McColgan, was born on Sept. 15, 1928 in Cairo, Ill., and passed away on Jan. 29, 2006 in Springfield, at the age of 77.
Ralph was a resident of Mansfield for eight years moving from Wasola. He was a retired iron worker. He was a veteran and served his country with the U.S. Air Force.
On July 6, 1979, Ralph and Sarah Horn were united in marriage in Birmingham, Ala.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents.
His survivors include his wife, Sarah of the home; two sons, Ralph McColgan Jr. and Harry McColgan, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; two daughters, Annie and Cindy McColgan, both of California; one sister, Francis Lamb, Florida; and other relatives and friends.
Cremation services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Don Valdon Frye, 72

Don Valdon Frye, 72, a resident of Fredonia, Kans., died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at his daughter's home in Carthage, Mo.
He was born in Squires, Mo., June 29, 1933, to Clarence P. and Rena Bell (Hardcastle) Fry, and graduated from Fredonia High School.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served from 1951 to 1953. He retired in 1998 after 40 years of work as a roofer.
On Aug. 24, 1965, he married Niki Killoren in St. Robert, Mo., and she survives at their home.
Survivors in addition to his wife Niki include five daughters, Kay Coleman of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Donelle Frye of Fredonia, Gerry Short of Independence, Menda Harper of Coolidge, Ariz., and Joyce Frye of Carthage, Mo.; one son, Kirk Strikland of Littleton, Colo.; one brother, Dane Frye of Davenport, Iowa; four sisters, Violet Adams of Kansas City, Mo., Geraldine Matney of Fredonia, Mozelle Allen of Saline and Janice Cox of Osage City; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, Reginald Frye, Gale Frye, Jack Fry and Norman Fry, preceded him in death.
Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 23, at the Fredonia City Cemetery under the direction of the Timmons Funeral Home, Fredonia, Kans.
Rev. Gene Benefiel of the Buxton Christian Church officiated.

Elmer Ray Phillips, 78

Elmer Ray Phillips the son of Luther Phillips and Mae (Cornett) Phillips was born Oct. 26, 1927 in Ava, and departed this life Jan. 19, 2006 at the age of 78.
Elmer was a resident of the Ava area for the past 47 years. Elmer served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. He was employed as a truck driver for Welton Gravel for over 30 years. Elmer enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing.
On June 21, 1956 Elmer and Barbara Cox were united in marriage in Ava. They were blessed with three children.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara.
He is survived by two sons, Mike Phillips, San Diego, Calif., and Greg Phillips, Seymour; a daughter, Jane Hos, Ava; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating.
Interment was in the Ava Cemetery.
Full military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 112 and VFW 5993.
A visitation was held before service time.
Doris Homeister, 88

Doris M. Homeister, 88, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Woodland Manor, Springfield.
Doris was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Elam and Annis (Bush) Hill.
She married Donald Young on January 14, 1939 in Waverly, Iowa.
They later divorced.
Doris married Alfred Zabel on June 6, 1948. Alfred died on Nov. 7, 1956.
Doris married Loranz Homeister on May 12, 1957, in Waverly, Iowa. Loranz died February l, 2000.
One of Doris' favorite things to do was make quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Those quilts will be cherished for life.
Besides Alfred and Loranz, Doris was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold and Arthur Hill and three sisters, Mabel Juel, Iva Bennett, Helen Miller and two grandchildren, Dexter and Cedric Gaede.
Doris is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Davis and Ruby Rand; brothers, Edwin and Walter Hill; four daughters, Lois Gaede of Fredricksburg, Iowa, Donna Manweiler of Sumner, Iowa, Arlene Boeddeker, Seymour, and Helen Fishbeck, Hannibal; three sons, David and William Homeister, both of Springfield, and Michael Homeister, Boise, Idaho; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava.
A second service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, in the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, Iowa, with interment following in the Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Quentin Charles Loyd Jennings, Infant

Quentin Charles Loyd Jennings, infant son of Charles and September (Sims) Jennings, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, as the result of a short illness.
He was born at 1:03 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, at Freeman West in Joplin.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Jeffery Barrett Jr., and Skylar Foster; three sisters, Brittany Jennings, Leticia Foster and Gracie Jennings; paternal grandmother, Dolores Jennings, of Neosho; maternal grandparents, Beverly and Delmas Watson, of Ava; and Loyd Sims, of Neosho; and maternal great-grandparents, William and Muriel Burk, of Ava.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Memorial Park Cemetery south of Neosho with the Rev. Charlie Brown officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (Thursday).

Effa Mae Giles, 102

Effa Mae Giles, daughter of the late Benjamin and Eliza (Cox) Irwin, was born on Aug. 15, 1903, in Denlow, Mo., and departed this life on Feb. 5, 2006, in the Ozark Nursing and Care Center, Ozark, following a short illness. She was 102.
Effa grew up and attended school in Douglas County and was united in marriage to William Giles.
They made their home in the Dora community for several years.
Mr. Giles passed away on Feb. 15, 1983.
Effa loved the Lord and her country, and was proud of her heritage. Her hobbies included making quilts for her relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Eliza Irwin; her husband, William “Bill” Giles; one brother, Jesse Irwin; and by one sister, Jayle Roy.
She is survived by numerous nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Effa Giles were held Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m., in the Dora Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Fred Hamby, Don Hamby and Oscar Cunningham officiating.
Burial was in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Funeral Home of Mtn. Grove.
