Harold D. Heyn, 45

Harold D. Heyn, 45, Ava, passed away Monday, March 6, 2006, in his home surrounded by family members.

He was born Sept. 11, 1960, at Oldfield, the son of Fred and Freda (Coffer) Heyn.

Harold was employed through Local Union #676 as a highway construction employee for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother Freda, and a sister Brenda Smith.

Harold is survived by his father Fred Heyn; sister Paula Waggoner, and husband, Mike, all of Ava; daughter, Jennifer Clark and husband Nathan; adopted son, Shawn Hollon; adopted daughter, Heather Hollon; former wife and mother of Jennifer, Tammy Lambert; former wife and mother of his adopted children, Shawn and Heather, Karen Delisle; eight grandchildren; a host of other relatives and caring friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, March 10, at 2 p.m. in Old Boston Cemetery, located on T Highway east of Oldfield.

Burial and services are under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark, with the Rev. James Orick officiating.

Mary Permelia Boker, 90

Mary Boker the daughter of William Samuel Dupre and Fannie Frances (Moore) Dupre, was born Feb. 2, 1916 in Santa Anna, Texas, and departed this life March 7, 2006, in Ava, at the age of 90.

Mary lived in Arizona for 37 years before moving to Ava. She moved to Ava in 1984.

Mary and Charlie Everett Casady were united in marriage in 1930 in View, Texas.

In 1967, Mary and Henry Boker were united in marriage in Cottonwood, Ariz.

Mary was a housewife and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Ava. Mary loved traveling across the U.S. and growing roses. Mary also enjoyed teaching Sunday school.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Charlie Everett Casady in 196l, her second husband, Henry Boker in 1972, two sons, Charles Casady in l994 and Bud Casady in l994.

Mary is survived by one son, Aron Lee Casady, Cottonwood, Ariz.; one daughter-in-law, Euvenia Casady, Ava; six grandchildren, Debbie Hall and John, Pueblo, Colo., Dean Casady and Wanda, Rogersville, Janet Burris and Norman, Cornville, Ariz., James Casady, Chandler, Ariz., John Casady and Brenda, Ava, Molly Potter and Richard, Squires; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday March 10, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Ron Pinckney officiating.

Interment will follow in the Girdner Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 2 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Girdner Cemetery.

Joan Kay Dillon, 69

Joan Kay Dillon, daughter of Oscar Leroy Loughead and Dorothy Elizabeth Miller Loughead, was born on July 17, 1936, in Kansas City, and departed this life on March 1, 2006, in rural Seymour, (Douglas County) at the age of 69 years.

Joan was a resident of Seymour for 13 years moving from Chicago, Ill.

She was a housekeeper. Joan loved to cook and read.

She was a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her survivors include four sons, Brett Sparks, Plainfield, Ill., Jason Sparks, Ill., Niall Dillon, Clearwater, Fla., and Kieron Dillon, Farmington; one brother, Gray Loughead, Kansas City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Cremation service was conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

A Memorial service will be held in Chicago at a later date and time.

J.W. (Jack) Bohnstedt, 81

J.W. (Jack) Bohnstedt, of Ava, passed away Feb. 24, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the home of his daughter, Sue, in Diamond, Mo., surrounded by his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy, and family. Jack was 81.

He was born March 27, 1924, to Guy Edward Bohnstedt and Ella Helen (Harmon) Bohnstedt, in Kellogg, Idaho.

Jack served his country during World War II as a first class petty officer in the United States Navy. Jack and Peggy moved to Ava in 1975, after Jack retired from Kaiser Steel in Eagle Mountain, Calif., as a driller. He was an accomplished welder who helped many of his friends and neighbors when in need.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janie, and a son, Bill; two brothers, William and Guy; three sisters, Maxine Burns, Esther Storm and Hazel Boman.

Surviving besides his wife, Peggy, of the home, in Ava, are three children, Sue Youngblood and her husband, Donnie, of Diamond, Jody Stillings, Ava, and Andrew Bohnstedt and his wife, Carol, of Lee’s Summit; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Bea Morgan, Barbara Hagen, Bonnie Story, Guyla Coleman and Kathleen Cheek; one brother-in-law, Joe Grimes and his wife, Eliska, of Sedalia; and one sister-in-law, Karen Eytcheson and her husband, Fred, of Cherryvale, Kan.

Services were held Feb. 28 in Joplin, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Chapel.

Cremation followed after the service.

Jean R. Hunter, 84

Jean R. Hunter, 84, Springfield, was called home to be with her Lord on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006.

The daughter of Tillman and Nellie Garland, she was born on Nov. 9, 1921, in Green Forest, Ark.

At a very young age, her mother and father moved Jean and their large family of nine sisters and one brother to the community of Dogwood in Douglas County, Mo.

God gave Jean a gift in her ability to care for small children. She used this talent to provide day care for over 30 years in her home and worked tirelessly in the nurseries of the church she attended. She left behind a legacy of children and families that were blessed by her loving care.

Jean was a member of Seminole Baptist Temple.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, and grandson, Bruce.

Jean is survived by her son, Leonard Garland and wife, Joella, of Hartville; daughter, Linda Payne and husband, Mason, of Nixa; son, Mike Hunter and wife, Shine Ann, of Springfield; grandson, Jeff Garland and wife, Mary; granddaughter, Kim Goddard; grandsons, Zachary and Auston Payne; five great-grandchildren, Aaron, Jonathan, Bethany, Alora and Ashley; sister, Kate Frye, of St. Joseph, Mo.; sister, Iris Frye, of Ava; a brother, Howard Garland, of Springfield; sister, Cloda Hendrickson and brother-in-law, Charles, of Bolivar; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, in the Greenlawn Funeral Home South, with the Rev. Mel Brown officiating.

Burial was in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery.

Stella Ann (Denney) Sanders, 85

Stella Sanders, the daughter of Charles E. Denney and Elizabeth (Hailey) Denney, was born April 21, 1920, in Douglas County, and departed this life March 14, 2006, at the age of 85 years.

Stella was lifelong resident of the Ava area.

On Oct. 16, 1937 Stella and Herbert Sanders were united in marriage in Webster County. Stella and Herbert were blessed with two sons.

Stella attended the Highway Church of the Nazarene, where she was baptized.

Stella was employed as clerk for the U.S. Forest Service and retired after 20 years of service. She owned and operated the Bears Den for 16 years. She also worked at the Recorder of Deeds Office for a few years. After retirement, she was full-time bookkeeper for the family business, Sanders Rock Products. She earned her private pilots license at the age of 52.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter-in-law, Barbara Sanders, a brother, Herbert Denney and a sister, Edith Denney.

She is survived by her husband, of 69 years, Herbert, of the home, Ava; two sons, Weldon Sanders and his wife, Suzanne, Ava, and Harvel Sanders, Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Susan, Mark, Jonathan, Robert and Mindy; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, Makenzie, Hayley and Lauren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.

Interment followed in the Denney Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Denney Cemetery.

Madge Warren, 84

Madge (Lavelock) Warren, 84, Cameron, Mo., passed away on March 16, 2006.

Madge was born on July 12, 1921 in Tina, Mo., to Thomas William and Lura Estelle (Raffety) Lavelock.

She was a graduate of Tina High School and worked as a bookkeeper for Sears Credit Department.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, Cameron.

Madge married Neil Warren on Oct. 24, 1954, in Troy, Kan. He survives in the home.

Additional survivors include sons, Tom Warren, Eagle Rock, and Tim Warren, St. Joseph; stepdaughter, Roxanne Clouse, Amazonia, Mo.; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday, March 23) at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, Cameron.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, under the direction of Poland-Thompson Funeral Home of Cameron.

Alton Thomas, 81

Funeral services for Alton Thomas, 81, of Ava, were held Monday, March 20 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Halbert Smith officiating.

Burial was in Loftis Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas died March 17, 2006, at his home.

He was born Sept. 4, 1924, the son of James Kelly and Nancy Genvra (Harley) Thomas in Willhoit.

He married Charline Nance April 3, 1946, in Mountain Home, Ark.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He attended school at Romance. He was a farmer and carpenter. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Charline; one daughter, Kay Johnson and her husband, Ralph, of West Plains; one granddaughter, Stephanie Seutter and her husband, Mark, of Austin, Texas; one great-grandson, Evan Suetter of Austin, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Mike Johnson and his family of Salem and Elizabeth Blau and her family of Alton; three sisters, Elsie James and her husband, Hubert, Gay Burke and her husband, Gaylord, and Bernice Pippin; two brothers, Alvis Thomas and his wife, Dolly, and Alvin Thomas and his wife, Reva; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Archie Thomas; and four sisters, Bonnie Thomas, Lena High, Elva Hill and Stella Frazier.

Memorials may be made to Loftis Cemetery in care of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.

Glen Leroy Nantz, 72

Glen Leroy Nantz, 72, of Mtn. Grove, formerly of Ava, departed this life Friday, March 17, 2006, at 5:30 a.m., in Autumn Oaks Caring Center of Mtn. Grove.

He was born March 23, 1933, in North Powder, Ore., the son of Charles Henry and Percy Pearl (Smith) Nantz.

On Dec. 29, 1963, he was united in marriage to Rosanne Montgomery. This union was blessed with two children.

During the years, he lived in Oregon, Glen was a logger, worked for the Union County Road Department in LaGrande, became a licensed auctioneer and had an auction service in North Powder, and had a store in Stanfield, where he enjoyed restoring and refinishing antiques.

Glen proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving a Purple Heart, as well as other awards and commendations.

He was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend to many. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Glen was preceded in death by both parents, Charles and Percy Nantz; one brother, Jasper; and two sisters, Bessie and Daisey.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosanne, of the home; one son, Kurt Nantz and wife, Marvalie, of Hollister; one daughter, Candi (Felix) Linkenauger, Ava; a friend-like-son, Randy Black, of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; five grandchildren, Leo, Miguel and Ana Felix, of Ava, and Nathan and Nicholas Nantz, of Hollister; one brother, Allen Nantz and wife, Claudeen, of North Powder, Ore.; several nieces and nephews and their children; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, in the Harris Cemetery west of Ava, with Pastor Buzz Brown officiating.

Military honors were performed by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993, Ava.

Services were under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava.

Easter O. King, 99

Mar 23, 2006

Easter O. King, 99, Ava, passed away Friday, March 17, 2006, in Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center at the age of 99.

She was born April 15, 1906, in Harmony, Ark., the daughter of Dr. James W. and Una (Porter) Ogilvie.

On Oct. 29, 1923, she was united in marriage to Vern Laster King and this union was blessed with three sons.

Easter was a member of the Ava United Methodist Church, an active participant of the United Methodist Women’s Organization, and the Hunter Extension Club.

She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and the center of the King family gatherings. She enjoyed quilting, tatting tablecloths, gardening and feeding her birds. Her life was filled with activity and she continued to mow her own lawn until the age of 82. At the age of 62, Easter received her driver’s license along with her grandson. She rewarded her neighbors and friends with pecan pie for special deeds and favors they performed for her. She was thoughtful, generous, and had a keen ability to see the good in everyone.

She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, one infant son, one sister, Polly, one granddaughter, Shirley Fleetwood, two half brothers, and one half sister.

Easter is lovingly survived by two sons, Wendell King and wife, Linda, of Ava, and Bob King and wife, Twyla, of Eufaula, Okla.; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; other special relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services and a celebration of Easter O. King’s life were held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, in the Ava United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Dowler officiating.

Easter was laid to rest beside her husband, Vern, in Harmony Cemetery, in Clarksville, Ark.

Arrangements and services were under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava.
