Robert Allen Burnes, the son of David Roy Burnes and Estelle (Zeimba) Burnes, was born July 14, 1936, in West Plains, and departed this life March 25, 2006, at the age of 69 years, 8 months, and 11 days.
Bob was a resident of the Ava area since 2004, moving here from Nixa. He owned and operated a heating and cooling business for many years.
On April 9, 1955, Bob and Barbara Riley were united in marriage in West Plains and to this union, three children were born.
Bob was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.
Bob served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lawrence "Larry" Burnes, a sister, Lorna Burnes, and a grandchild.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara, of the home, Ava; a son, Alan Burnes, Ava; two daughters, Cheryl Howell, Ava, and Holly Jackson, Springfield; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be announced at a later date and time.
Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
The family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
Fern Mills, 87

Fern Mills, 87, Nixa, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 24, 2006; she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 18, 1918, at Swan, Mo., to John Ervin and Myrtle (Morgan) Clark.
After she and Ray Mills were united in marriage, they moved to Sparta where they raised three daughters.
Fern was employed by McBee Loose Leaf Binders for several years. She enjoyed volunteering at Thomas Elementary Library of Nixa and was also a longtime and active member of Southside Church of Christ, Ozark.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Richard, Oscar, Ike, Alf and Rex; and one grandson, Aaron St. John.
Fern is lovingly survived by three daughters and their spouses, Myrtle St. John and Derald, Marilyn Melton and David, all of Nixa, and Reta Edwards and J.D. of Springfield; two sisters, Pauline Weagley and Grace Shipman; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Clark, Jean Clark, and Ada Dennis; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Jessica St. John, Tommy and Angie St. John, Ratava and Mark Moyer, Jennifer and Jeff James, Chris and Sarah Melton, Diann and Denny Eisman, and Gloria and Conrad Smith; 11 great-grandchildren, Dakota and Benjamin James, Emma Melton, Kylie and Aaron St. John, Quentin and Alex St. John, Bayley, Jarrett, Colton and John Moyer; other caring relatives and several friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 27, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark with ministers Chuck Eakins and Jerry Keene officiating.
Burial followed in the Sparta Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 26 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Fair Haven Children’s Home, of Strafford.
Larry Dean ‘Mac’ Hampton, 68

Larry Dean “Mac” Hampton, 68, died March 25, 2006.
He was born Feb. 22, 1938, the son of Monroe and Eulah (Friend) Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jodee Cannon, and one brother, William “Pete” Hampton.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; one daughter, Rhonda Bell and her husband, Duane, of Bull Shoals, Ark.; three sons, Brad Hampton and wife, Atonya, of Ava, Tom Cantrell and wife, Maria, of Theodosia, and Tim Cantrell and wife, Melissa, of Graff; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Joy Cutbirth and husband, Dale, of Theodosia, and Judy Merrell and husband, Robby, of Springfield.
Mac owned and operated Hampton Feed Mill. After his retirement, he and Peggy liked to travel and spend the winters in Arizona. He also liked to antique and had a number of other hobbies.
Mac was a Christian for many, many years and his faith sustained him and blessed others during his illness.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, with Lynn Jennings and Jerry Ratterree officiating.
Interment was in Lutie Cemetery.
Duane L. Hamilton, 74

On Sept. 6, 2005, Duane Hamilton died far too young at the age of 74 in the state of Washington.
The son of Marcus and Araminta (Huff) Hamilton, Duane was born on April 17, 1931 in Goodhope.
Because he wished to be buried near the place of his birth, before his interment, there will be a graveside service at Goodhope Cemetery on April 2, at 1:30 p.m. Thereafter a reception is planned at the Roy Church.
All who knew Duane and would like to share memories are welcome.
Vilas Smith, 73

Vilas Smith, 73, Ava, died at 12:17 a.m. March 26, 2006, at his home in Ava.
He was born March 26, 1933, in Ozark County, the son of Sigel and Carrie Evelyn (Newton) Smith.
On Oct. 27, 1956, he was married at Tecumseh to Wanda Blackburn, who survives.
He was a retired owner and meat broker for V and W Brokerage.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a member of Gainesville Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda, of the home; two daughters, Tracy Smith and Rhonda Flood, both of Independence; brothers and sisters, Mike Smith, Zanoni, Bonnie Luna, Gainesville, Blanch Sukow, Springfield, Norene Loftis, Hardenville, Nancy Kelley, Dora, Floyd Smith, Ava, Floy Tucker, Rockford, Ill., Dave Smith and Bernice Ziegler, Wichita, Kan., Rosell Howard, Belton, and Frank Smith, Independence; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joe and Obie Smith.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Gainesville Church of Christ with Brad Smith and Halbert Smith officiating.
Interment was in Smith Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
Clyde Milton Fleetwood, 91

Clyde Milton Fleetwood, son of Robert and Ethel (Spurlock) Fleetwood, was born Dec. 29, 1914 at Sweden, Mo., and passed away March 25, 2006 at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 26 days.
On July 20, 1935, Clyde and Doris Stout were united in marriage and to this union, three children were born.
Clyde was a lifelong resident of the Ava area where he was a dairy and beef farmer. Clyde enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and canning.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents; two brothers, Marion and Carl; and two sisters, Beulah and Alta.
Survivors include three children, Jim and wife, Alice Fleetwood, and Ronnie and wife, Phyllis Fleetwood, all of Ava, and Mrs. Lanna and husband, Dick Strong, of Prairie Village, Kan.; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Bosch and Eric, Melissa Drummond and Joe, Junior Fleetwood and Sharon, Jeff Fleetwood and Dawn, Jalanna Cobb, Joseph Fleetwood, Jarrod Fleetwood, Scott Fleetwood and Sandy, Erin Lansdown and Tim, and Kenny Fleetwood and Kristin; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28 at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating, with interment following in the Ava Cemetery.
Visitation was held Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
