A memorial service will be held Monday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Ava.
Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Joe D. Hannaford, 56

Joe D. Hannaford passed away March 31, 2006.
He was born May 26, 1949, and married Pat Johnson on Dec. 6, 1968.
Joe proudly served his country from 1966 to 2004. He received his baccalaureate degree in law enforcement and corrections from Drury College in 1977. He enjoyed fishing, farming, poker and motorcycles. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ivona Everett Hannaford, and his father-in-law, Gene Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; father, Samuel Lawrence Hannaford; mother-in-law, Faye Johnson; sister, Deana Martin; brother, David Hannaford; half sister, Rebecca Fairchild and husband David; son, Terry Hannaford; daughter Debbie Thomas and husband, Bobby; seven grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, April 5, with burial in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Leonard Winger, 77

Leonard Winger was born on May 24, 1928, in the state of Iowa, and departed this life on April 8, 2006, in Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center, Ava, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 14 days.
Leonard was a resident of the Ava community for several years.
He was a veteran and served his country with the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Eagles Lodge. He had worked as a custodian at the Ava Public Schools and also at one time, owned a restaurant and a small engine repairman shop.
Leonard loved playing cards, cooking, collecting cookbooks, reading and raising a garden. He was a friend to his neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald and a daughter, Linda.
His survivors include a son and other relatives and friends.
Cremation services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Edna Jones, 64

Edna Jones, daughter of Ted Pellham and Beulah (Silvey) Pellham, was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Longrun.
She passed away at the home of her daughter, Shelia, in Gassville, AR, on April 10, 2006, at the age of 64 years, 2 months, and 13 days.
Edna lived in Ozark County most of her life. At an early age, she was converted to Christ and was a member of the Longrun General Baptist Church.
She worked at the courthouse as deputy collector under Howard Haskins for seven years, then was elected collector and served Ozark County for another 20 years before retiring in March 2003.
Edna enjoyed working in her yard and garden for hours on end. She especially loved being with her family at gatherings, where the children fondly called her Granny Ed.
On Dec. 29, 1972, Edna and Robert Jones were married in Wasola, by the Rev. Elza McFarland.
Edna is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home in Noble; a daughter, Shelia White and husband Jim, of Gassville, Ark.; two granddaughters, Jeana Dresner and husband Matt, of West Plains, and Lisa Prahl and husband David, of Cotter, Ark.; three great-grandsons, Caleb and Lucas Dresner, of West Plains, and Joshua Prahl, of Cotter, Ark.; three sisters, Joan Wilson Pond and husband Charlie, of Theodosia, Ethel Jones and husband Connie, of Thornfield, and Sharon Turner and husband, John, of Theodosia; two brothers, Keith Pellham and wife Mildred, of Ava, and Garland Pellham and wife Joyce, of Wasola.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ovid Pellham, and infant brother, Loyd Pellham.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) in Clinkingbeard Chapel, Gainesville, with the Revs. Oren Alcorn and Tom Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Longrun Cemetery.
The family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society or hospice in care of the funeral home. Services are conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
Robert E. Harper, 78

Robert E Harper, 78, Squires, died peacefully April 6 at Cox South, Springfield. He had fought an 11-year battle with cancer.
Born Dec. 30, 1927, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Howard and Helen Harper, he was a top car salesman in Fort Wayne for many years, retiring in 1992.
He was a self-taught master wood craftsman, a hobby he started and enjoyed throughout his retirement years.
His wife, Geraldine, preceded him in death in 1995.
In 1999, he moved to Arizona with his daughter and her family. In 2004, he relocated with them to Squires. He loved country gospel music and his dog, Buddie.
He leaves behind daughter, Myra Huff, and her husband, David, and grandson Scott Huff, all of Squires; granddaughter, Michele Hull-Lortie, and her family, of Columbia City, Ind.; daughter Janice Ashby and her husband, Dan, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; grandson, Ben Ashby and granddaughter, Jennifer Ashby, all of Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughters, Sharon Blakely and family of Arizona, and Julie Parker and family of Indiana; sons, John Harper and family of Indiana and Robert D. Harper and sons of Arizona; a sister, Norma Blough, of Indiana.
He also leaves his two best friends, Billy Harris and Ron Bailey, both of Fort Wayne, Ind.; as well as numerous other family and friends.
He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Thomas Etsel Marsh, 95

Thomas Etsel Marsh, son of Samuel Peter Marsh and Nola Melton Marsh, was born on January 31, 1911, in Pondfork, Mo., in Ozark County, and departed this life on April 12, 2006, in his home in Ava at the age of 95 years, 2 months and 11 days.
Thomas grew up in Ozark County. He was a resident of Ava since 1976 moving from Silverton, Ore. He was a civilian warehouseman employee for the U.S. Army in Tracy, Calif., for 25 years and resided in Modesto, Calif.
On April 18, 1940, Thomas and Nora Alice Gladden were united in marriage in Lutie, Mo., and to this union, one son was born.
After their marriage, Thomas and his wife moved to Arizona, and returned to Missouri in 1943. They then moved to California in 1944 to work for the U.S. Army.
Thomas was a member of the Longrun General Baptist Church.
He loved to garden and was known in the area for his tomatoes. He was a loving devoted husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, five sisters and his wife, Nora Alice, on Jan. 8, 2005.
Thomas is survived by one son, Ronald “Ron” Marsh, Ava; one brother, Sterlin Marsh, Prosser, Wash.; and one sister, Oveta Wolfe, Troy, Mo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Saturday, April 15, from 2 to 3 p.m.. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with a private burial ceremony in the Ava Cemetery with Rev. Tom Johnson officiating.
Memorials can be made to the Welch and Marsh Families Cemetery in Ozark County in care of Dora Jo Simpson, Theodosia, Mo.
Peggy Joan Livingston, 58

Peggy Joan Livingston, daughter of Vernon and Ruth (Williams) Goin, was born Oct. 6, 1947, in Christian County.
She departed this life Sunday, April 16, 2006, at her home, in Marshfield, at the age of 58 years, six months, and 10 days.
On May 7, 1988, she was united in marriage to Donald Livingston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garman Rousseau; a grandson, Nicholas Brumley; a brother, Rick Goin; and a sister, Anna Marie Brumley.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Don, of the home; four sons, Roger Brumley, and his wife, Tammy, and David Brumley, all of Mansfield, Scotty Rousseau, and Marcus Livingston, both of Marshfield; two grandchildren, Nathan and Kourtney Brumley; a sister, Debbie Harvill, and her husband, Mickey, of Oldfield; a brother, Butch Goin, and his wife, Monica, of Ozark; a sister-in-law, Vickie Goin, of Chadwick; and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in Douglas County and attended Ava schools. She was a loving and devoted homemaker, caring for her family.
Peggy had made her profession of faith in Christ, and was a member of Mound Fundamental Baptist Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed working on puzzles, and quilts and loved being outdoors. She was also an avid reader.
Peggy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Macomb Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Bray officiating.
Burial followed under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield.
Dortha Luann Lea, 49

Dortha Luann (Shortt) Lea, age 49, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006, in her Douglas County home.
She was born Jan. 5, 1957, in Springfield, the daughter of Everett and Artie Ester (Pruett) Shortt.
Luann attended primary and secondary schools in Ava. She completed St. John’s School of Nursing and subsequently worked in area hospitals; her primary areas were neonatology and emergency medicine. At the time of her death, she was near completion of her English degree at Drury University. Her next goal was to teach English in a rural Ozark setting.
Luann was an honor student at Drury, an avid reader, collector of books, an amateur painter, photographer, and lover of all living things, with a special love for cats.
Memberships include Daughters of the American Revolution, Carl Neiman Chapter, Ava, Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, and Eastern Gate Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John Randall Lea, of the home; three stepchildren, Elaine C. Lea and Clair E. Lea, both of Columbia, and Paul C. Lea, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Wanda Lavon Hutchinson and husband, Larry; a niece, Tammy Gunter and husband, Darryll, and children, Lindsey and Jonathan Mitchell; a brother, Hillis Lee Shortt and wife, Diann; a nephew, Ralph Hutchinson and wife, Melissa, and children Danne, Nathan, and Ethan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Pat Nelson.
Visitation was Sunday, April 16, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
Funeral services were Monday, April 17, in Eastern Gate Missionary Baptist Church, Ava, with the Revs. James Orick and Joe Lafferty officiating.
Burial followed in Harvill Cemetery, under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
Carnie W. Yeary, 87

Carnie W. Yeary, age 87, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006, in Ozark Nursing and Care Center.
She was born Dec. 1, 1918, near Thornfield, one of seven children born to the late Roy and Nellie Heriford.
She was married to Warren E. Yeary for 66 years before he preceded her in death in 2003.
Mr. Yeary was a career Missouri public school teacher for 55 years. Mrs. Yeary provided invaluable nurture and support to their two children and Warren while he was developing and pursuing his career as a teacher. In addition, she also pursued a career in commercial industry and retired from Royal McBee Typewriter Corporation.
Survivors include two children, Warren J. Yeary and wife, Mary, Belton, and Katherine Swearengin and husband, Jim, Sparta; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruie Engle, Springfield; three nieces; and five nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 5, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
Burial was in Sparta Cemetery.
Ivan Henderson Arnold, 79

Ivan Henderson Arnold was born Feb, 23, 1927, to Arthur Ivan and Edna Chilcotte Arnold in Wapello County, Iowa, and entered into his heavenly rest on Good Friday, April 14, 2006 in his home with his loving family, at the age of 79 years, one month, and 21 days.
On Feb. 9, 1947, Ivan married Phyllis Jean Dunwoody and to this union, three children were born: Lois (husband Victor) Kilgore of Ava, Wanda (husband Dean) Greenwood of Columbia, and Ron (wife Becky) Arnold of Mitchell, S.D., and for years he claimed Norman and Linda Murray also as his children.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edna Arnold, one brother, Clifford Arnold, one sister, Lavonne Buck, and two granddaughters, Katrina Kilgore and Andrea Arnold.
After he finished his education in Iowa, Ivan worked in the local sawmills and drove trucks before working several years for John Morrell Meat Packing. At the age of 30, Ivan accepted the call to preach and moved his young family to Cincinnati, Ohio to attend God's Bible School. From there, they moved to Bartlesville, Okla., where he completed his studies at the Pilgrim Holiness Central College. At the age of 33, he started the first church of his ministry in the family home. Later, he bought an old store building with living quarters and opened the Church of God (Holiness) in Albia, Iowa.
In 1966, he once again moved his family; this time to Ava, for the children to attend Mt. Zion Bible School. He worked for Kerr-Gaston Chevrolet-Olds in Ava and Leo Holmes Ford in Mansfield. He also served as boy's monitor, mechanics teacher, and maintenance man at Mt. Zion Bible School, a position he held until he entered the hospital in January for aortic valve replacement.
In addition to his Mt. Zion duties, he pastored intermittently.
Ivan had many affectionate names such as “Curly”, “Private Fuzz”, and “Chester.”
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 59 years, Phyllis; his children; one brother, Jerry, of Leona, Wisc.; one sister, Pearl Ade, of Milwaukee, Wisc.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
His life reflected a quiet and gentle dignity that left its mark on all who knew him. He handled his person and his affairs with meticulous precision. His love for God and the work of God was manifested in his life and in his testimony. He fought a good fight, he finished his course, and his resolve carried him at last to a triumphal entry to his eternal home. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who loved him.
Services were held Monday, April 17, at 2 p.m., at the Mt. Zion gymnasium, Ava.
Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Visitation was held Sunday, April 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava.
The family requests memorials to the Mt. Zion Bible School or Gideons International in care of the funeral home.
