Hazel Marie Stephens, daughter of Pleasant and Willa McAllister Doyel, was born May 7, 1912 in Macomb, Mo.
She departed this life Friday, June 16, 2006, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, at the age of 94.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orvil Stephens; and one sister, Ruby Keverline.
Hazel is survived by one son, Jerald Stephens of Wichita, Kan.; four daughters, Catherine Mallernee of Kimberling City, Maxine Cline and her husband James, of Springfield, Naomi Gray and her husband, Bill, of Macomb, and Norma Reich of Portland, Ore. She is also survived by one sister, Jewel Cottengim, of Fresno, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Ellen Eyman, of Springfield; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Hazel was born in Macomb and attended school in Norwood, where she graduated in the class of 1932.
On March 8, 1935, Hazel married Orvil Stephens and they then made their home in the Douglas County area until 1960, when they moved to Mansfield and lovingly raised their family.
Hazel taught elementary school at Huffman, Peavine, and St. James country schools. She was a devoted homemaker, and was also a member of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, where she enjoyed her worship and fellowship with the church family. In her spare time, Hazel enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Hazel was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was also a caring neighbor and friend.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18, at Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield, with the Revs. Mark Terrill and Jewell Craig officiating. Burial was in Prairie Hollow Cemetery.
Oleta M. Leonard, 54

Oleta Mae Leonard was born in the state of Colorado on Oct. 16, 1954, to Denver Ray Allen and Barbara Murphy Allen, and departed this life at Heart of the Ozarks Health Care on June 17, 2006 at the age of 51.
Oleta lived most of her life in the Seymour area were she was a homemaker enjoying crocheting, word puzzles and making arts and crafts.
On Oct. 16, 1976, Oleta married Kenneth Leonard in Seymour, and to this union, three sons were born.
Oleta is survived by her sons, Bryan Allen and wife, Alberta, of Waynesville, Wes Leonard and wife, Jennifer, and Tim Leonard, of Ava; two grandchildren, Madalyn Leonard, of Ava, and Seth Leonard of Forsyth; four brothers, Kenny Allen state of Missouri, Charles Allen of Stockton, Jimmy Allen of Springfield, and Johnny Whiteman of Seymour; and one sister, Sheila Rogers, of Bolivar.
Oleta was preceded in death by two stillborn infant sons, one brother, Pete Whiteman, and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice or as a love offering to the family at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at Ava Church of Christ at a later date.
Cremation was under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home of Ava.
Raymond Hawkins, 67

Raymond Hawkins, 67, of Ozark, passed away Friday, July 7, 2006, from injuries sustained following an accident on his farm in Douglas County.
He was born May 18, 1939, in Chadwick, the son of William and Ota (Pruett) Hawkins.
In 1960, he and Helen Huff were united in marriage.
He served his country in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Hawkins was a faithful member of Roy Union Church where he served as superintendent. He had retired from Hagale Industries as plant manager, and continued to be a hard worker until the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; a daughter, Rayla Johns and husband, Scott, Ozark; a grandson, Ty Johns; two sisters, Juanita Collins, and Dorothy Wallace and husband, Jerry, all of Nixa; a sister-in-law, Trellis Hawkins, Ozark; nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Hursh and husband, Bill, and Madeena Bray and husband, Ed; a brother, Roscoe Hawkins; a brother-in-law, Allen Collins; and a nephew, Eddie Bray.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Brother Jerry Vonallmen and Robert Hall officiating. Burial followed in Goodhope Cemetery.

Edward D. Arnold, Batesville, Ark., died Saturday, July 1, 2006.
Born April 29, 1932, in West Plains, he was the son of John H. and Flora Belle (Mitchell) Arnold.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. He was a member of Desha Baptist Church. He loved to fish and enjoyed tinkering with motors. He was a great improviser. He loved to read nonfiction; loved to talk and had a good sense of humor. He sold real estate for United Farm Agency.
Mr. Arnold was a greeter at church and always visited people in nursing homes and the hospital.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Vera (Goodrich) Arnold, of the home; a daughter, Kathy McSpadden, Batesville, Ark.; a sister, Kathryn S. Rieger, Lakeside, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Megan McSpadden; two step-grand-children, Amanda McSpadden and Joe McSpadden; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gwendolyn Arnold; and brothers, John D. Arnold and Richard M. Arnold.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Desha Baptist Church with Bro. Troy Sharp officiating.
Burial was in Kyler Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville, Ark.
Clifton K. Bunyard, 90

Clifton K. Bunyard, 90, passed away Friday, June 2, 2006, at his residence in Greenwood, Ind.
He was born May 2, 1916, in Ava, to Anthony and Minnie (Osborn) Bunyard.
He married Natalie P. (Cravens) Bunyard on March 3, 1946, in Independence. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Glenda L. Konopka, of Greenwood, Ind.; a sister, Reba Johnson, Ava; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Lauren Konopka, both of Greenwood, Ind.; and 19 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Virgil, Gordon, Hobart, Herbert and Leonard; and by a sister, Gladys Larkin.
Clifton worked 40 years (1937-1977) as lead inspector at the TWA Engine Overhaul Base in Kansas City. In 1988 he moved from the Kansas City area to Greenwood, Ind. A veteran of World War II, he served as Army staff sergeant with the Corps of Engineers in France and England. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, a member of the TWA Employees Club, and a member of the United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park in Kansas City.

Carol Streeter, daughter of Bill and Lorraine (Pickert) Daniels, was born Sept. 28, 1955, in Binghamton, N.Y., and passed away of breast cancer on July 4, 2006 at the age of 50.
Carol was a resident of Ava, for the past eight years, moving here from North Carolina.
Carol and Stephen Streeter were married in Longmont, Colo., and to this union, three children were born.
Carol loved gardening, flowers, writing, and raised dogs in kennels. She was a member of the Latter-day Saints Church in Ava.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen.
Her survivors include three children, Eric Streeter, of Michigan, and Sonja and Elisabeth Streeter, both of Ava; her parents, Gerald William Daniels and Lorraine Audrey (Pickert) Daniels, Loudon, Tenn.; and one brother, William Robert Daniels, Watertown, Wisc.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 7, in the Latter-day Saints Church, Ava, with Bishop Jerold Brown officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

Fronas Vernita Clem, 85, Springfield, died at 4:31 a.m. June 29, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She was born April 21, 1921, in Ava, the daughter of Jack and Lillie Chamberlain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Clem, and a son, Dennis Goforth.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Nyal Goforth and wife, Gracie, Pauline Thompson and husband, Charles, Katherine Arbuckle and husband, Ronnie; a daughter-in-law, Dianna Goforth; a sister, Edith McCleary; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a longtime companion, Gus Compton; as well as a host of other friends and family.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, at Greenlawn North Funeral Home in Springfield.
Burial was in Springfield National Cemetery.

Melvin (Barney) G. Drapich, 84, Ava, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2006, at his home in Ava.
He was born June 16, 1922, at Holms, Calif., to Samuel and Dolly Drapich.
On Sept. 4, 1960, he married Ruth E. Schuenemann in Carson City, Nev.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother, Clarence, and his stepfather, Lewis Adams.
He is survived by two sons, Bob State, of Ava, and James State and wife, Laurine, of Morgan, Calif.; a daughter, Robin Newby and her husband, Glenn, of Eureka, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister; a very special niece, Joyce Clinkingbeard; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Burial will be in the Ava Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be between the hours of 9 and 10 a.m. today at Barnes Family Funeral Home.

Melvin G. Drapich, known to everybody as Barney, 84, Ava, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2006, at his home in Ava.
He was born June 16, 1922, at Holms, Calif., to Samuel and Dolly Drapich.
He attended public school as a youth and was baptized in the Catholic faith. Barney has always been a hard worker starting in his early teens setting pins at the local bowling alley. He joined the Navy during World War II as a mechanic. After the war Barney returned to Eureka, a small timber and fishing community in northern California, and worked in a barrel factory, and then in the lumber industry as a forklift operator for over 30 years before coming to Ava.
On Sept. 4, 1960, he married Ruth E. Schuenemann in Carson City, Nev.
He moved to Ava with his wife, Ruth, over 26 years ago from Eureka, Calif.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E.; his parents, Samuel Drapich and Dolly Adams; his brother, Clarence Drapich; and his stepfather, Lewis Adams.
He is survived by two sons, Bob State, of Ava, and James State and wife, Laurine, of Morgan Hills, Calif.; a daughter, Robin Newby and her husband, Glenn, of Eureka, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Corinne State Morrison, Destry Girard, Dr. Caton State, Sylus Girard, Dillon State, Ben Drapich Newby and Weston State; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Barney are two brothers, Lewis Adams and Sam Drapich, and one sister, Deloris Bastain, all living in California; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Burial was in the Ava Cemetery with full military honors.

Donnie R. Gideon, 61

Donnie R. Gideon, 61, Sparta, passed away suddenly, Sunday, July 2, 2006, in his home.
He was born Sept. 6, 1944, in Sparta the son of Eldo and Ora (McTeer) Gideon.
On Nov. 6, 1981, Donnie was united in marriage to Connie Morrison.
Donnie graduated from Sparta High School in 1963 and was employed with Fasco Industries for 28 years. He enjoyed hobbies of collecting old pennies, watching baseball games, fishing and was an avid Cardinals baseball fan. His greatest passion was being a devoted husband, loving father to his girls, and spending time with the family dog “Bo.” Donnie also proudly served his country with the United States Army as a member of the military police.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Donnie was sincerely proud of his surviving family, his beloved wife Connie; three daughters, Janice Richison and husband Shawn, of Ozark, Donna Riddlesperger and husband, Doug, of Sparta, and Jessica Gideon of Sparta; three sisters, Dorothy Jackson, Faye Rantz and Sue Schreiner; six grandchildren Randall and Cody Gann, Daniel Richison, Haley and Brooke Riddlesperger and Jonna Hyatt; his parents-in-law, J.D. and Betty Morrison of Ava; other caring relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark, with the Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Sparta.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
