Eugene (Gene) Earnest Bishop entered into rest Aug. 4, 2006.
He was born on Nov. 23, 1934, in Coldsprings, Mo.
Gene was united in marriage to Elaine Shinpaugh on June 2, 1955, in Ava, and to this union, two children were born.
Gene spent most of his life in Wichita, Kan., where he managed Healthco Dental Supply for 33 years and retired in 1993. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1957 to 1959.
Gene enjoyed living at the Lake of the Ozarks, boating, fishing and bowling. He also enjoyed country music and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Gene was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wichita and Midian Shrine Temple.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Irene, and a bother, Robert.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine, of Camdenton; a son, Eugene and wife, Suzy, of Osage Beach; a daughter, Sandy and husband, Rex Sparrow, of Eastborough, Kan.; grandchildren, Satina Hatch, Cassie, Branda, Darian Bishop, Colby and Savanna Sparrow.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Don Graham officiating.
Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Services were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
William O. Dedmon, 80

William O. “Bill” Dedmon, son of Austin and Edith Patterson Dedmon, was born June 28, 1926 in Wright County, and departed this life Friday Aug. 4, 2006, in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, at the age of 80.
On Oct. 18, 1952, he was united in marriage to Joan Bennett and to this union, two daughters were born.
Bill was born and raised in Wright County, where he attended several country schools.
In 1944, he entered the United States Army and faithfully served his country until November 1946, when he received an honorable discharge. After returning home, he was employed by Drew Electrical Construction Company until 1952, when he began to work for the Missouri Department of Transportation.
He worked for MODOT for 36 years, retiring in 1988.
Bill was a member of Wolf Creek Freewill Baptist Church and had attended there until his health began to decline. He attended the First General Baptist Church in Ava the last eight years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 112 in Ava.
In his spare time, he loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandkids.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Miranda, a brother, Gaylen Dedmon, and a sister, Lois Owens.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joan, of the home; two daughters, Tracy Haden, of Ava, and Vickie Ward and her husband, Stacey, of Marshfield; four grandchildren, Timothy Haden, Jennifer Haden, Dustin Ward and Christopher Ward; three brothers, G.A. Dedmon and his wife, Virginia, of Mansfield, Roy Dedmon and his wife, Nelda, of Hartville, and Jack Dedmon and his wife, Francis, of Mansfield; one sister, Kay Patterson, of Marshfield; several nieces and nephews as well as a host of many other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield, with the Revs. Robert Roberts, R.E. Helsley and Gary Dedmon officiating.
Interment was in Steele Memorial Cemetery.
Martha Jane Johnson, 88

Martha Jane Johnson, age 88, Springfield, born March 1, 1918 to the late John and Mathersa (Haynes) Davenport in Page, Neb., passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 in James River Care Center.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Johnson on March 18, 1937 and to this union, four children were born.
Jane was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening especially peony flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
Her survivors include loving husband of 69 years, L. Raymond; son, Lloyd Edward Johnson and wife, Joyce, of Ava; daughters Sue Swearengin of Overland Park, Kan., Linda Johnson of Covington, La., and Becky McBride, of Springfield; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; six siblings and their families; numerous other loving relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at Thieme-Shadel Funeral Service at Rivermonte Chapel with burial to follow in Dogwood Cemetery, in Douglas County.
Herbert R. Leser, 68

Herbert R. Leser, the son of Herbert Ralph Leser and Virginia Jean (McNeil) Leser, was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Northbrook, Ill., and departed this life Aug. 10, 2006 in his home in Ava at the age of 68.
On Aug. 30, 1982, Herbert and Georgia Raydene Lindsey were united in marriage in Miami, Okla.
Herbert was a resident of Ava for the past three years, moving here from Mesa, Ariz., where he had lived for 20 years. Herbert was a retired chief aviation structural mechanic for the U.S. Navy and also worked for and retired from Hughes Aircraft which later became McDonnell Douglas Aircraft. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Mesa, Ariz., and was of the Protestant faith. He was the first inspector of the Apache helicopter.
Before being disabled he enjoyed motocross racing, boating, fishing and putting together aircraft models. Herbert loved being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill McNeil.
He is survived by his wife, Raydene of the home in Ava; two children, Sherry Ivy Leser Weeks, Bloomfield, Ind., and Michael Todd Leser, Lakeway, Texas; four stepchildren, Kim Sullivan, Gainesville, Karla Eslinger, Ava, Jeff Lamar, Gainesville, Jamie Dorum, Lakeside, Ariz., and other relatives and friends.
Cremation services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital or the American Lung Association.
Fay E. Hutchison, 78

Fay E. Hutchison, 78, of Buffalo, Iowa, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport, Iowa.
Fay was born Jan. 18, 1928, in Mountain Grove, the daughter of Sherman David and Opal Minnie (Hayes) Phillips.
She was united in marriage to George F. Hutchison on Nov. 5, 1949, in Rock Island County, Ill. He preceded her in death.
Fay enjoyed crocheting and the company of animals, especially dogs and cats.
She was a committed member of her church and she enjoyed going to the Center for Active Seniors in Davenport.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Katherine Blew and her friend, David Nix, of Buffalo, Iowa, Marilyn Wolford and her husband, Chris, of Blue Grass, Iowa, and Vivian Moore and her husband, Randy, of Buffalo, Iowa; her sons, DeWayne Hutchison, of Buffalo, Iowa, Floyd Hutchison and his wife, Linda Gaile, of Phoenix City, Ala., Glen Hutchison, of Buffalo, Iowa, Terry Hutchison and his wife, Rhonda, of Buffalo, Iowa, Michael Hutchison and his wife, Kerrie, of Davenport, Iowa, and Gary Hutchison, and his wife, Deanna, of Ozark; her step-sons, Bernie Hutchison, of Ava, Wilburn Hutchison and his wife, Louise, of Norwood, Lee Hutchison and his wife, Sharon, of Seymour, Iowa, Ron Hutchison and his wife, Judy, of Ava, and Manuel Hutchison and his wife, Sue, of Buffalo, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, George, she was preceded in death by her parents; her twin daughters; her stepson, Brad Branford; her grandson, Michael; her brother, Clarence; and her sisters, Elsie and Genevieve.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to Buffalo Friends Church, where Fay was a member.
Gerard Patrick (Pat) Greeley, 71

Gerard Patrick “Pat” Greeley, 71, of Ava, passed away Aug. 12 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Springfield, Ill., on Feb. 20, 1935, to James Sr. and Marguerite Greeley.
He was employed at Dolly Madison and the Illinois Department of Public Aid before retiring and moving to Ava in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Greeley; children, Greg Greeley, of Peoria, Ill., Lee Rodgers, Ava, Randy Rodgers, Bartlesville, Okla., Cheryl Bruno, Murrayville, Ill., Denise Barofsky, Alto, Mich., Dianne George, Commerce Township, Mich.; special family members, Kevin White, of Bartlesville, Okla., and Jim and Tommie Wilson, of Plainview, Texas; and 13 grandchildren including Jacob and Brenna Rodgers, of Ava.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Jr. and Richard; and two sons, Kevin and Brian Greeley.
The family has suggested memorial donations to Bradleyville or Goodhope Volunteer Fire Department.

Rev. Rex Alfred Maggard, 70

Rex Maggard the son of Alfred Maggard and Adah (O'Neal) Maggard, was born July 26, 1936 in Bradleyville, and departed this life Aug. 18, 2006, at the age of 70.
Rex was a life-long resident of Bradleyville, where he was a beef farmer.
On Jan. 8, 1959, Rex and Wanda Thompson were united in marriage in Brown Branch.
He enjoyed coon hunting, auctioneering, rabbit hunting with beagles and fishing.
He looked forward to church services and singings. Rex was a member of New Mansion Church.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Pauline Mendenhall.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Wanda, of the home in Bradleyville; one daughter, Audrey Fay Maggard, Bradleyville; two grandchildren, Florence and Virginia, of South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Benji and Savanna Kay; two brothers, Arnold and Gina Maggard, Yakima, Wash., and Burl and Helen Maggard, Bradleyville; two sisters, Velma Kelly, Caldwell, Idaho, and Thelma and Leon Floyd, Dallas, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Randy Maggard, Carl Thompson and Benny Dewitt officiating. Interment followed in the Patterson Cemetery.
