Roger Neal Hastings died peacefully at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, after a brief illness.
He leaves behind his heart broken family, wife of 22 years, Jenny Starr Hastings, Ava, his children, Daniel Sean and Laura Jean Hastings, Ava, Douglas Shane Hastings, Dayton, Ohio, Scott Ellis Agnor, Ava; grandchildren, Cameron, Carey and Kristin Starr Hastings all of Ava; five brothers and families, Wayne and Norma Hastings, Lloyd and JoAnn Hastings, Boyd and Jeri Hastings, Mark and Darlene Hastings and Bruce and Carol Hastings all of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Daphne and his parents, Hayden Anderson Hastings and Gwendolyn Thomason Hastings.
A private service will be held at request of family.
Roger's legacy to all who knew him was his love of people and his kindness to all.
Cremation service was conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that a tree be planted in Neal's memory.
Martin B. Lane, 84

Martin B. Lane was born April 3, 1922 in Douglas County, to Martin and Celia (Miller) Lane.
He departed this life Oct. 1, 2006 at the age of 84.
He married his soulmate and best friend, Erma (Hale) Lane on April 14, 1942 in Bolivar, and to this union, seven children were born.
Martin served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. Martin was a dairy farmer. He worked in Colorado for 55 years and was employed by the Schmidt Family Farm. Later, moving back to Ava he worked for years with Sentinel. Martin loved to go to the Senior Citizens to play pool.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Lillie, Lue, Joy, Ada and Elma; two brothers, Jack and Martin; one son, Walter Lane; one grandson, Ronnie Lee Gonzales; and one great-grandson, Curtis Wayne Gonzales.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Erma Lane; six children, Karen Lane, Greeley, Colo., Lester Lane and Lindell "Toby" Lane, both of Ava, Joel and Kathy Lane, Sparta, Sharon and Allen Brunson, Commerce City, Colo., Martin Lane Jr., Ava; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alta Brown, Ava; special nephews, Jim Manning and Bill Dugan, whom Martin helped raise; and a very special friend, Susan Ridenour; a special family, the Schmidt family of Colorado; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fannon Cemetery with military services conducted by the VFW Post 5993 and American Legion Post 112.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made as a love offering in care of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
Margaret A. "Maggie" Chaney, 59

Margaret A. "Maggie" Chaney, the daughter of James Roy Chaney and Ruth Carnes Chaney, was born on June 18, 1947 in Mtn. Grove, and departed this life on Oct. 1, 2006, in Humansville, at the Northwood Hills Care Center at the age of 59.
She was a resident of Ava for several years. Maggie was loved and cared for by her family at Brooke Care health. She loved children, nature, watching baseball games on T.V. and music.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by one brother, James Chaney, of Connecticut; an aunt, Jewel Loomis, Cabool; uncles, Jack Chaney, Mtn. Grove, Dick and Nellie Carnes, Mtn. Grove; several cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service was held Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 2:30 p.m. at the Penner Cemetery in Douglas County with the Chaplain Belva Tarrant officiating. Visitation was held Tuesday from 1 to 1:30 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Services were conducted by Clinkingbeards of Ava.
Marcia Leigh Owen, 72

Marcia Leigh Owen, the daughter of Arthur E. Schultz and Esther Pearl Clawson Schultz, was born Dec. 20, 1933 in Salina, Kan., and departed this life Oct. 1, 2006 in Ava, at the age of 72.
On Oct. 9, 1953 in Carson City, Nev., Marcia and Jack Wymore were married and to this union, two daughters were born.
Marcia worked in Kansas City for many years as a church secretary, but not only as a secretary but also was very active in the operation of a homeless shelter there. For many years, she worked with the shelter until leaving the secretarial job at church and helping co-found the Hope Faith Ministries Homeless shelter in Kansas City.
Marcia is survived by her two daughters, Micki Lynn Wymore-Walsh and her husband, Myles, of Ava, and Stephanie Ann Roadcap of Kansas City. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Schultz, of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Marcia was preceded by her husband Jack; her parents and a brother.

Natalie Elizabeth Charchol, 18

Natalie E. Charchol, the daughter of Jack Charchol and Peggy (Field) Charchol, was born Feb. 19, 1988, in South Laguna, Calif., and departed this life Sept. 26, 2006, at the age of 18.
Natalie was a resident of the Ava area for the past nine years. She was employed as a waitress and was also a student at Drury University. Natalie loved, trained and showed horses. God gave Natalie many gifts. She played the piano by ear beautifully, and was a talented artist.
Natalie is survived by her parents, Jack and Peggy Charchol, Ava; a brother, Jeff Charchol, Seymour; two half sisters, Jackie Jones, Australia, and Julie Fontaine, the state of Washington; a half brother, Daniel Charchol, of the state of Washington; maternal grandmother, Grace Field, Fullerton, Calif.; paternal grandmother, Mary Charchol, Bowling Green, Ohio; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Highway Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Mark Hatcher and Doyne (Butch) McCleary officiating.
Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Interment will follow in the Whites Creek Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Doris Pinckney Stephens, 85

Doris Pinckney Stephens, 85, was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Ottawa, Kan., to John and Golda (Frost) Roberts.
Doris passed away on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006.
She was married to Richard Pinckney at Ava in July 1940. They were blessed with three children.
For over 25 years they owned and operated the Pinckney Store and Garage in Wasola.
She married Dick Stephens at Mtn. Home, Ark., in August 1973. They made their home in Oklahoma for five years before moving back to Ava.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, John and Golda Frost. Also preceding her in death were two husbands, Richard Pinckney, in March 1972, and Dick Stephens, in January 1989. Her daughter, Brenda, also preceded her in death as did a brother, Ivan Roberts, and one stepdaughter, Jane.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Pinckney and Ronald Pinckney and wife, Doris, all of Wasola; one grandson, Tanner Pinckney and wife, Mindy, of Ava; one granddaughter, Misty Souder and husband, Matt, of Wasola; four great-grandchildren, Titus and Cade Pinckney, of Ava, and Alton and Garrett Souder, of Wasola; one brother, Delano Roberts, Kansas; one sister, Leah Moore, Idaho; one sister-in-law, Roxie Roberts, Wasola. Also surviving is one stepson, Jim Stephens; one stepdaughter, Sue; six step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Ava Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Cabrera officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Ava Family Funeral Home.
Lyle Jenkins, 67

Jesse Lyle Jenkins, son of Jesse Lee and Freda M. (Harnden) Jenkins, was born on Aug. 8, 1939, west of Ava, and departed this life on Oct. 14, 2006, in Ava, at the age of 67.
Lyle was a life-long resident of the Ava area where he was a dairy farmer. He was an Air Force veteran and served from 1957 till 1961.
On March 3, 1963, Lyle and Sydney Rees Evans were united in marriage at Oakley, Kan., and to this union, two children were born.
He enjoyed working on family genealogy, growing plants in the greenhouse, building furniture out of old oak barn boards and taking care of his farm and cattle.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Joshua, and his parents, Jesse and Freda Jenkins.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sydney; two sons, Jimmy Lee Jenkins, of Ava, and Jerry Wayne Jenkins, of Fort Smith, Ark.; three grandchildren, Jessica Jenkins, Julie Jenkins and Thomas Jenkins; one brother, Bill Jenkins and wife Kathy, of Oronogo, Mo.; three sisters, Virginia Jones and husband Gordon, Strafford, Joann Austin and husband, Evon, of Smithville, and Laurie Bon Jour of Bastrop, Texa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home Ava, and burial in Denney Cemetery, with Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to The American Heart Association. Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Cora Nelson, 71

Cora Nelson, 71, of San Jose, Calif., formerly of Ava, passed away Sept. 25, 2006.
Cora moved to Ava with her husband, George D., when he retired. In 2001, she moved to California.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one son.
Cora is survived by two sons, George E., of Taylorsville, Utah, and Ronald, of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Pamela James, of Big Lakes, Minn., and Patricia Marcum, of Aurora; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother.
Services will be held at a later date.
