Max L. Tiedeman, 69

Max L. Tiedeman, 69, of Kansas City, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City from injuries sustained in a hit and run accident.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday at Longview Cemetery in Kansas City, under the direction of Charter Funerals.

Max was born Dec. 2, 1936, in Neosho.

He was married to Gail for 29 years and to the union, two children were born.

He was an active member of Southside Church of God and considered members of the church among his best friends.

He had many occupations, hobbies and interests, and was well-known for his excessive energy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Opal (Jennings) Tiedeman; four brothers, Bill, Dean, Wayne and Jimmy Tiedeman.

Survivors include his wife, Gail; son, Michael Bradley and daughter, Melissa Dawn; two sisters, Mrs. Edwina Ritter and Mrs. Betty Cauthon; two brothers, Hugh and Lee Tiedeman, all of Harrisonville; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Orrin Paul 'Grandpops' Williams, 87

Orrin Paul Williams was born June 5, 1919, to James and Etta Williams, in Delta, Colo., and left this life on Oct. 10, 2006, due to injuries sustained in a horse accident at Ava.

Having been born and raised near the Colorado Rockies, he began his lifelong love for horses, which was second only to the love for his wife, Irene Garrett.

They were united forever on Jan. 22, 1940.

He was a well-respected horseman and cattle rancher, with his opinion being sought after until the day of his parting.

In Colorado, Orrin worked as a cattleman and rancher, at several feedlots, the Sleeping Indian Ranch, and then managed the Chimney Peak Ranch for over 26 years. His grandson, Jim, makes his home up on Chimney Peak Ranch in Ridgeway, Colo.

When Orrin reluctantly retired at the age of 74, he moved to Ava to be near "his kids." Regardless of where he made his home, he was an active and involved member of the community and always the first to volunteer when needed so he could lend a helping hand wherever needed. He could be counted on in any circumstance to help wherever, whenever, and however he could.

Orrin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene, his daughter and only child, Dena "Kay" Blankmeyer, of Ava, four brothers, Claude, Lawrence, Hershal and Hubert, and five sisters, Ethel, Alta, Marie, Faye, and Lucille.

For 63 years, Orrin was married to Irene and they were blessed with only one child, but this child gave them five grandchildren.

He is survived by Kevin Blankmeyer, of Boise, Idaho, Kimberly Maggard and husband Eddie, and Trisha Schaeffer, all of Ava, James Blankmeyer and wife Becky, Ridgeway, Colo., and Derek Blankmeyer, Salt Lake City, Utah; 12 great-grandchildren, Dena Blankmeyer, Danny Maggard, Kate Blankmeyer, Jordan Blankmeyer, Sydney Schaeffer, Joel Blankmeyer, Calli Schaeffer, Deanne Blankmeyer, Jacob Blankmeyer, Garrett Maggard, Cody Blankmeyer and Jaycee Blankmeyer; and one great-great-grandson, Austin Maggard. He is also survived by one sister, Fern Loper, Downey, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews across the United States.

Always young at heart, Orrin lived for his grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today (Thursday, Oct. 12) from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava.

The family is taking "Grandpops" home to Colorado to be with "Grammie."

Services in Colorado, are tentatively set for Monday, Oct. 16, in a church in Ridgeway.

Interment will follow in the Delta City Cemetery, Delta, Colo.

The family has requested memorials to Grandpops' favorite charity, The Boys Ranch, in care of the funeral home.

Local arrangements are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

Ruby Thelma Swearengin, 97

Ruby Thelma Dalton was born to J.K. and Margaret M. Dalton on Oct. 5, 1908, at Johns Mill, Mo., in Douglas County.

She departed this life on Oct. 4, 2006, at the age of 97, at Christian Health Care in Nixa, where she had resided the past two years.

On June 10, 1925, Ruby was united in marriage to Albert E. Swearengin and to this union, seven children were born.

She lived most of her life in the Fordland area.

She was converted at an early age and sanctified in a revival at Elkhead, conducted by Rev. Gene Cowan and Oscar Rogers. Ruby was a member of the Church of God (Holiness) at Fordland and was faithful in attendance until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1942, her eldest son, Clifford, in 2005, and a son-in-law, Gene Watson, in 2006.

Ruby is survived by four sons, Bill and Faye, of Ozark, Howard and Carole, of Wheatland, Darrell and Bonnie, of Rogersville, and Freddie and Bobbi, of Springfield; two daughters, Mary and Virgil Swearengin, of Rogersville, and Alberta Watson, of Sharpsburg, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Carlene Swearengin, Haysville, Kan.; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 21 step-great-grandchildren.

Services were at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene at Rogersville with burial in the Union Chapel Cemetery at Fordland.

Services were under the direction of Preston-Marsh Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Mt. Zion Bible School of Ava.

Richard Ellis Shelhamer, 54

Richard Ellis Shelhamer, the son of Ellis Shelhamer and Blanche (Stauth) Shelhamer, was born Jan. 1, 1952 in Kalispell, Mont., and departed this life Oct. 5, 2006, at the age of 54.

Richard was a resident of the Ava area and was a beef farmer.

On Oct. 28, 1978 Richard and Linda Marie Becker were united in marriage in Denver, Colo. Richard and Linda were blessed with three sons.

Linda preceded Richard in death in l998.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his children, pontoon boating, traveling and fixing and maintaining his farm.

He is survived by his four children, Nicholas Shelhamer, Columbia, Timothy Shelhamer, Joplin, Toby Shelhamer and Julia Shelhamer both of Ava; one sister, Sandy Gress, Pueblo, Colo.; one brother, Michael Shelhamer, Yuma, Ariz.; and a host of friends.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home Chapel, Ava, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating.

Love offerings may be made to the family at the funeral home.

Jonathan David Sellars, 5

Jonathan David Sellars, age 5, son of Joseph W. and Catherine (Lonnborg) Sellars, was born July 25, 2001, in Springfield, and went to be with Jesus in Heaven on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at 12:48 a.m., at his home near Norwood, with his father and mother kneeling beside him.

Jon was very courageous and strong throughout his nine-month illness.

Jon lived in Norwood and last year, had attended Norwood Preschool classes where he made many friends. He liked going to his sisters' ballgames and playing with his friends. He loved superheroes, playing T-ball, video games, watching cartoons and listening to '60s rock and roll music. He was a big NASCAR and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He liked going to church with his family at Rock Chapel Freewill Baptist Church north of Norwood.

He was preceded in death by his aunt, Terra (Sellars) Miller in 2003; his paternal great-grandparents, Elza and Ellen Sellars; his maternal great-grandparents, Andrew Louis and Elsie Blanton; a great-uncle, Steve Johnson; and by a second cousin, Derick Lee Sellars.

He is survived by his loving parents, Joe and Kathy Sellars, of Norwood; his sisters, Samantha "Sam" Sellars and Nichole "Nicki" Sellars, both of the home; his paternal grandparents, Charles "Chuck" and Marilyn Sellars, of Saucier, Miss.; his paternal grandmother, Phyllis VanNess, of Norwood; his maternal grandparents, Walter Jr. and Barbara Lonnborg, of Gulfport, Miss.; his maternal grandmother, Diana Blanton, Greensburg, Ind.; paternal great-grandparents, Tressie Sellars, Norwood, and Lois Garnek, St. George, Utah; his maternal great-grandparents, Walter Sr. and Cathy Lonnborg, Brandon, Miss.; uncles, aunts; cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life services for Jonathan Sellars were held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m., in the Norwood High School gym with the Revs. Kevin Williford and Larry Curtis officiating.

A balloon release was held at the cemetery and burial was in the Rock Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove.

Bobby Gene Dixon, 68

Nov 9, 2006

Bobby Gene Dixon was born on May l, 1938 to Roper Morgan Dixon and Elva Detherage Dixon.

He was married to Vera Fay Elliott on May 24, 1959 at Elk Creek, and to this union, eight children were born.

Mr. Dixon passed away November 7, 2006 in Springfield, MO.

Bob accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 13. He was ordained as a deacon at age 21 in l960. Bobby worshipped the Lord and served Friendship Church faithfully throughout his life. He was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent at various times as well as using his bass voice in the choir and special singing. Recently, he joined Gideons International, Ava Camp.

Bob worked at Tobin Hamilton Shoe Co. in Mansfield, from 1956-l992. He retired to the "Dixon Retreat" where he liked to be known as "cattle rancher." He enjoyed watching his children play sports, fishing and playing basketball. He was a board member at Skyline School for many years. He enjoyed listening to gospel music and his favorite group was his children and he joined them singing many times.

Preceding him in death were his father, Roper Morgan Dixon; two brothers, Donald Eugene and an infant brother; and one son, David Morgan Dixon.

Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Vera; his mother, Elva Kester, of Ava; five daughters and two sons, Helen and Rick Batten, of Ava, Donna Dixon, of Ava, Marvin and Jemi Dixon, of Eureka, Penny and Anthony McNeill, of Whitewater, Kan., Michael and Tanya Dixon, of Ava, Tamara Camp, of Ava, Tiffany and Terril Jones, of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Bob will be missed not only by family but by many friends and relatives. His greatest desire was to be a good witness for his Lord and to be an example to all he met everywhere he went.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Revs. R. E. Helsley and Billie Hicks officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dyer Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 7 p.m.. in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons International.

Mary Belle Hennan, 79

Mary Belle Hennan, 79, began her earthly life on June 8, 1927, at McAllister, Okla., as the fifth child of Arthur Harrison and Myrtle House Pulliam.

Mary passed away on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Webco Manor in Marshfield.

During the Depression, her family moved to California, where she met and married Arthur W. Hennan on Sept. 23, 1945.

Mary was a devout member of the Church of Christ. She loved sending Bible studies through the mail helping others to find Christ.

She cherished her big family and spending time with them. She also spent time sewing, especially cross stitch, and gardening. She had worked at Chastain's Nursing Home as a nurse's aid and housekeeper, as well as having been a nurse's aide in hospitals in California.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 34 years, Arthur, and three brothers, Sylvester, Howard and Nim.

Surviving are two sons, Bruce Hennan and wife, Diane, of Quanah, Texas, and Dr. Floyd Hennan and wife, Laura, of Abilene, Texas; five daughters, Mary Mundy and husband, Philip, of Bellview, Ohio, Barbara Walters and husband, Danny, of Newalla, Okla., Betty Luzadder and husband, Ernie, of Marshfield, Kandy Barnes and husband, Alvin, of Ava, and Dr. Pearl Hennan-Hain and husband, David, of Wurtland, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wyba Neinstadt, Modesto, Calif., and Alma Williamson, Vancouver, Wash.; three brothers, Glenn Pulliam, Lodi, Calif., William Pulliam, state of California, and Foy Pulliam, Hemett, Calif.; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Turkey Creek Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Keene officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the American Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Ava Family Funeral Home.

Chester G. Chambers, 71

Nov 9, 2006

Chester Glane Chambers, 71, Willow Springs, died at 7:07 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006 in Willow Care Nursing Center.

He was born March 12, 1935 in Dora, Mo., to William C. "Bill" and Lois Tillman Chambers.

He received his education in the schools of Dora and on June 1, 1960, was married at Norwood to June Brixey.

Mr. Chambers lived in the Dora community until 1983 when the family moved to Willow Springs. He had been a dairy farmer for many years and hauled milk for Kraft Foods of Ava, Mid-Am of Cabool, and Worrell Transport of Mountain Grove.

Mr. Chambers drove a bus for the Willow Springs School District for six years and worked summers at Silver Dollar City and Shepherd Of the Hills.

He was a lifetime member of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association having been a qualified judge of the association.

Mr. Chambers was of the Baptist faith with his membership in the Central Calvary Baptist Church, West Plains. He will be remembered for his ministry of gospel singing; he was an avid bass singer. Mr. Chambers enjoyed meeting people and never met a stranger.

Mr. Chambers is survived by his wife, June Chambers, of the family home; three children, Calvin Chambers and wife, Ramona, Dora, Debra Smith and husband, Vince, Memphis, Tenn., and Douglas Chambers and wife, Susan Wheaton, Fayette, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Christina Collins, Gabriel, Ashley, and Shalee Chambers, Tim, Bryan and Daniel Smith and Tessa and Trace Chambers; one brother, Dallas Chambers and wife, Lorene, Ava; one sister, Ella Russell, West Plains; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, one sister, Lozene Burnett, one brother-in-law, Gene Russell, one niece and one nephew preceded him in death.

Graveside services for Mr. Chambers were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Denlow Cemetery, near Mountain Grove, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains.
