Charles Pike, the son of John Leland Pike and Grace Breeding Pike, was born Aug. 6, 1928 in McKinney, Texas, and departed this life June 23, 2007, at the age of 78.
Charles was a resident of the Ava area for the past 11 years, moving here from LeClaire, Iowa. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Navy.
On Dec. 1, 1961 Charles and Zola Beavan were united in marriage in Rock Island, Ill.
Charles was a member of the Baptist Church.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
His survivors include, from the union with Elizabeth Dunaway Madison, three children, daughter Doris Elizabeth Madison McLaughlin of Waynesboro, Va., Joyce Ann Morris, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and son Charles Leland Baker Pike, of Waynesboro, Va.; and his wife, Zola, of the home, Ava, and their daughter, Debra Kaye Tufford, of Bon Aqua, Tenn.; also 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Glenda Morrow, Post, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, with Chaplain Belva Tarrent officiating.
Interment was in the Brushy Knob Cemetery.
Dallas C. Gunter, 63

Dallas Cleo Gunter was born March 26, 1944, the son of the late Tom and Louella (Clark) Gunter.
He passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007, in Lebanon.
He is survived by his children, Louella Quakenbush and husband, Russ, of Indiana, Donna Fulcher and husband, Mike, of Batesville, Ark., Dallas Gunter Jr. and wife, Chasity, of Lebanon, Tom Gunter and wife, Tammy, of Ava, Darrell Gunter and wife, Tammy, of Ava, and Wesley Barnum and wife, Amy, of Joplin; two stepchildren, Jamie Osburn and wife, Amy, of Springfield, and Julie Osburn, of Lebanon.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Mansfield.
He will be laid to rest in the Ava Cemetery.
Fred H. Propst, 79

Mr. Fred H. Propst, age 79, of Licking, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2007 at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
He will lie in state at Evans Funeral Home in Houston from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today (Thursday).
Burial at Missouri Veterans Cemetery will be at a later date.
Thomas Joe Stafford Sr., 75

Thomas Joe Stafford Sr., 75, of Bradleyville, passed away Sunday, June 24, at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born June 13, 1932, in Grovespring, the son of Thomas Reed and Bertha Alice (Brumfield) Stafford.
Joe retired from the Navy after serving 40 years, which included active duty and reserves. His service included duty in the Korean War, Bay of Pigs, the Cold War and Vietnam. He served as a naval recruiter in Springfield and Wichita, Kan. He worked in construction in the Kansas City area, owned and operated a sawmill, and a farm raising tomatoes and beef cattle in Bradleyville.
Joe was married to Reba Geraldine (Gerry) Dunn in Ozark by the Rev. Bob Grady on Aug. 11, 1956. To this union, three children were born, Thomas Joe Jr., Reba Jewell and Timothy Lynn Stafford.
Tommy Joe, as his family and friends called him in his early years, was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William, two sisters, Ruby Bonner and Ellen Ballay, two nephews, and his daughter, Reba Jewell Stafford.
Joe is survived by his wife of the home; and two sons, Joe Jr. and wife, Cheryl, of Marshfield, and Tim and wife, Kellie, of Bradleyville; six grandchildren, Nathan and wife, Jessica Stafford, Jamon and husband, Nathan Lewis, Waylon and wife, Teresa Stafford, Jerrid Stafford, Kayla Stafford and Dylon Stafford. Also four great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include one sister, Johnnie Lillard, of Bradleyville, and one brother, Lawrence and wife, Mary Lou Stafford, of Harrisonville; 10 nephews and six nieces; and a host of cousins and friends.
Services will be at the Kissee-Aiken-Schofield Funeral Home at Forsyth today (Thursday) at 2 p.m., with burial at the Stafford Cemetery with full military honors.
Dollie Lee Sartin, 79

Dollie Lee Sartin, daughter of Jerry Swadley and Ollie Metcalf Swadley, was born on April 26, 1928 in Bradleyville, and passed from this life on June 26, 2007 in Skaggs Community Hospital, Branson, at the age of 79.
Dollie was a lifelong resident of the Bradleyville community. Dollie was a Christian and attended Bradleyville General Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, farmer and raised beef cattle.
On Oct. 23, 1947, Dollie and Stanley Sartin were united in marriage in Harrison, Ark. Dollie and Stanley were blessed with eight children.
Dollie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Stanley, one grandson, Frank Sartin Jr., one great-grandson, Cody Sartin, two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her eight children and spouses, Carol Grigg and Willard, Berryville, Ark., Sherry Shaw and Frankie, Green Forest, Ark., Sara Case and Dennis, Bradleyville, Wanda Leonard and Deven, St. James, Fla., Frank Sartin Sr. and Marlene, Bradleyville, Dennis Sartin, of the home in Bradleyville, Billy Sartin and Rose, Everett Sartin and Becky, all of Bradleyville; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Betty Swadley, Bradleyville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 29, in the Bradleyville General Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Fuller officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sartin Family Cemetery, Bradleyville.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) 6 to 7 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Beth Butcher, 51

God reached down and gently lifted Beth Lauraine Butcher, 51, up to Heaven on June 25, 2007.
She was born Oct. 1, 1955, in Lincoln, Kan., the daughter of the late Armin and Ruth Sauerteig Bolte.
She graduated from Ava High School in May 1973, and earned her bachelor's degree in education at the School of the Ozarks in Branson.
On June 17, 1978, she was united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marshfield to Stephen C. Butcher Sr. To this union two children were born.
Prior to the birth of her children, Beth began working for the Missouri State Highway Department. In 1987, she was able to fulfill her love of teaching when she began working for Sikeston Public Schools in Sikeston, Mo. as a middle school, and later on, a junior high art instructor. She was a member of the educational professional sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, and earned the privilege as the SACC's 2005 Teacher of the Year.
In May 2000, Beth was diagnosed with breast cancer. For seven years, she valiantly fought this disease with her strong Christian faith and incredible positive attitude. Beth had a great love for life, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Most of all, Beth was a beautiful mother, wife and friend. In passing, she leaves us all with wonderful memories.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Bolte.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Butcher Sr. and son, Stephen Butcher Jr., both of Sikeston; a daughter and son-in-law, Aimee Kimball and husband, Eric, of Jacksonville, Fla.; parents-in-law, Curtis and Martha Butcher of Sikeston; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Holmes and husband, Larry, of Seymour; a sister-in-law, Mary Bolte of Ava; and by seven special nieces and nephews.
Visitation services were held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday June 27 at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday) at Concordia Lutheran Church.
Burial will follow on Friday June 29 at 10:30 at the Turkey Creek Cemetery near Ava.
The family asks that donations in Beth's honor be sent to the American Cancer Society.
Bernice Coon, 98

Bernice Coon, 98, passed away on June 23, 2007, at the Rehab Center of Independence.
Bernice was born on June 25, 1908, in Ava.
She was a longtime member of the Belvidere Heights Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Elwood Coon; one daughter, Vayda LaRose; and one son, Wayne Coon.
Her survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Beth, of Independence; granddaughters, Marsha Phillips, Blue Springs, and Cathy Dennis, Kansas City; one grandson, Steve Coon; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a multitude of friends and other family members.
A visitation was held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
The service followed at 10 a.m. in the chapel.
Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Hazel Anderson, 79

Hazel Anderson, 79, was born June 20, 1928 in Jersey City, N.J.
She passed away June 23, 2007.
Hazel was a graduate of Grosse Pointe High School in Grosse Pointe, Mich. She graduated from Washington University, Barnes Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis.
Hazel married Eric Anderson on June 14, 1952.
There are three surviving children, Eric Jr., Wayne, and Carol, as well as five grandchildren.
Hazel was very philanthropic and was active in many service and church organizations. Some offices held were: president of P.E.O. in both, Anaheim, Calif., and Ava, president of Ava Art Group, and president of United Methodist Women.
Hazel loved being with her family, church family, and friends. She enjoyed almost every form of arts and crafts.
A celebration of Hazel's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, at the Ava United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ava United Methodist Church.
