Ernest Craig Williams, 41

Ernest Craig (Ernie) Williams, 41, of Battlefield, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007.

He was born June 4, 1965, in Wichita, Kan., the son of Charles and Shirley Williams.

He served his country in the U.S. Army.

On April 12, 1997, he and Sheryl Lynn Taylor were married.

Ernie was a member of Nixa General Baptist Church and Henderson Lodge #477 AF&AM; in Rogersville. He was employed as a delivery driver and safety trainer for Springfield Grocer Company.

Ernie loved his family and spending time with them, and enjoyed his motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl; a daughter, Rebecca Williams, of the home; his mother, Shirley Brixey, Springfield; a brother, Ed Williams and wife, Sonja, Seymour; a sister, Sylvia McClellan and husband, Joe, Willow Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

His father preceded him in death.

A funeral and Masonic service was held at 9 a.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Bob Comer officiating.

Burial was at 1 p.m. Monday in Denlow Cemetery, in Douglas County.

Carol Ann Kohler Wyse, 63

Carol Ann Kohler Wyse, daughter of Charles Fredrick Kohler and Ruth Anita Law Kohler, was born Oct. 6, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pa.

Carol departed this life on May 26, 2007 at approximately 5:55 p.m. following a long illness.

For the past few months Carol had been in St. John's Hospital in Springfield. The two weeks preceding her death were spent in Willard Health Care in Willard.

Carol married Harry David Wyse in St. David's, Pa., on Feb. 13, 1971. To this union two children were born and two were stillborn.

Preceding Carol in death were her father, her grandparents, her son, David Lee Kohler, a daughter, Franny Wyse, and a son Charles David Wyse.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth Kohler, of Pennsylvania; her daughter, Tricia Wyse, of Raleigh, N.C.; her granddaughter, Francesca; several cousins; and many friends.

Carol was a Brownie Troop Leader for one year until she got so sick with her first round of cancer. She was also in the Limerick, Pa. Fire Company Auxiliary for a year. Carol liked crocheting, doing puzzles, bluegrass music, and she loved her cat, Baby.

Carol gave her life to the Lord and followed his leading to come to Ava in September 2003. The Lord opened the door for Carol to be a study helper for World Bible School in November 2004, and she has had students from all over the world. They also shared inspirational emails and did prayer chains back and forth. She loved attending the Ava Church of Christ and learned a lot.

In December 1977, doctors found cancer in Carol, and she battled that cancer for 28 years. In December 2005, they found more cancer, which eventually took her from this world.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday, June 10, at Ava Church of Christ on South Highway 5 at 1:30 p.m., with burial of her ashes to follow at the Ava Cemetery.

Harold C. Farris, 75

Harold Clifton Farris, son of Lester and Thelma Reser Farris, was born July 13, 1931 in Mansfield, and departed this life on May 27, 2007, in Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, at the age of 75.

He was united in marriage to Pearl Seal on Dec. 2, 1950, and to this union, six children were born.

Harold attended the Mountain Side School in Douglas County and had lived most of his life in the Mansfield area. He was a farmer and had run the DX station in Mansfield many years ago.

Harold was a member of the Ava Full Gospel Church and was a United States Air Force veteran. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors where he loved hunting, fishing and trapping.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Lester Harold Farris, and two brothers, Bob and Olen Farris.

Harold is survived by two sons, Ronald Farris, of Macomb, and Clifford Farris, of Mansfield; four daughters, Connie Davis, of Phoenix, Ariz., Ronda Stahl and husband Wayne, of Bakersfield, Calif., Vonna Henley and husband Larry, of Mansfield, and Ramona Farris, of Macomb; the mother of his children, Pearl Farris, of Macomb; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Farris and wife, Charlene, of Tulare, Calif.; and one sister Geraldene Buchanan of the state of Washington; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield, with Pastor Butch McCleary officiating.

Burial was in Cedar Gap Cemetery.

Clyde Gilford Ellison, 95

Clyde Gilford Ellison was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Calumet, Okla., to Robert F. and Lillian G. Ellison, and went home to spend his eternal rest with Jesus on May 29, 2007, in Memphis, Tenn.

He was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Cordova, Tenn., and had been a faithful member of Olivet Church of the Nazarene in El Reno, Okla. for over 30 years before moving to live with his son.

Clyde married Frances Adellia Adams on Nov. 1, 1936, in Okarche, Okla., then later after the death of Frances, he married Emma Meade of Okarche, Okla. and resided there until her death.

Clyde formerly lived in Ava where he and Frances raised their children, then later lived in Okarche, Okla., and Geary, Okla., living the past nine years with his son, Ted, in Byhalia, Miss.

He was a retired cattle farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ellison, and later his wife Emma; a son Thomas R. Ellison; his parents, Robert and Lillian Ellison; two brothers, Jake Ellison and Bobby Ellison; and a sister Evelyn McCray.

Survivors are his children, Ted and Carolyn Ellison, of Byhalia, Miss., Joe and Janis Ellison, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Clyde Jr. and Carol Ellison, of Tulsa, Okla., and Ruby June Cox, of Aurora; and one sister, Lucille Gasper, of San Antonio, Texas; as well as 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in Ava, with visitation today (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m. in Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, and graveside services Friday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at Goodhope Cemetery west of Ava, with Pastor Kevin Pittman of the Goodhope Church of the Nazarene officiating under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home of Ava.

Arthur Johnny McCarty, 49

Arthur Johnny McCarty, son of Leo McCarty and Wynona Bernadine Linder McCarty, was born on June 11, 1957 in Muscatine, Iowa, and passed from this life with his loving family with him on May 26, 2007, in Norwood, at the age of 49.

Johnny was a resident of Norwood community for the past two years moving from Muscatine, Iowa, where he worked in construction for several years. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy. Johnny loved hunting and fishing in his free time. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his great twin nephews, Alex and Aaron.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Leo, and his grandparents, Art and Jerd Linder and John and Rena McCarty.

He is survived by his mother, Wynona "Moni" McCarty Hicks, Norwood; his fiancé, Robin Shelton, Norwood; three children, Justice McCarty and Arthur Johnny McCarty Jr., both of Texas, and Jennifer Lynn McCarty, state of Illinois; two sisters, Frances Adams, state of Texas, and Leslie McCarty, state of Iowa; two brothers, Matt McCarty and David McCarty, both of Iowa; two special great-nephews, Alex and Aaron Underwood, Norwood; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services for Johnny were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with James "Butch" Linder officiating.

The family requests memorials as a love offering to the family.

Hester Louise Moles, 75

May 31, 2007

Hester Louise Moles, daughter of Kelley and Carrie Rhoades, was born Feb. 19, 1932, and entered her eternal reward May 29, 2007.

She was converted at the age of 9 and was baptized on Dec. 7, 1941, the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

From her conversion to the day she went to be with her Lord, Hester never wavered in her faith. In her adolescence years, she was always looked to as a Christian leader in her church and community.

On Nov. 23, 1952, Hester and John D. Moles were united in holy matrimony. To this union two children were born: Victor Moles, of Mansfield, and Mrs. Trudy Underwood with her husband, Kelley, of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Through her daughter, Hester has two grandchildren, Jessica Underwood Peters with her husband Andy, and Robert Underwood.

Hester and her husband entered the ministry in July of 1955.

She and John served the Oak Forest Community Church for two years before accepting a call to pastor the Highway Church of the Nazarene in Ava, in 1957. They served at the Highway church for 35 years. After retirement in 1992, they served as interim pastor at the Marshfield Church of the Nazarene for nearly five years. Hester was an outstanding pastor's wife. At the Highway Church, she was known as "The Queen of the Parsonage." Hester supported her pastor-husband 100 percent and was his chief encourager.

Hester's gifted role in ministry included singing, teaching, praying and entertaining with those delicious home cooked meals. She taught the "Home Builders" Sunday School class for over 25 years.

As John has said: "God gave me a wonderful wife. He put us together on a fabulous journey that leads to a building of God, made with hands eternal in the heavens. Our loss is Heaven's gain."

Hester, one of 15 children, was preceded in death by her mother, father and 10 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by three brothers, Rev. Dean Rhoades, of Lebanon, Clyde Rhoades, of Houston, and Jess Rhoades, of Mansfield; and one sister, Loretta Kelly, of Norwood; as well as a host of nephews and nieces.

Services for Hester will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 1, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Shane Chellis and Jim Dillow officiating.

Interment will follow in the Oak Forest Cemetery.

Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International; or to the Alabaster Fund or Compassionate Ministries c/o Mansfield Church of the Nazarene.

Versil L. Brixey-Smyser, 86

Versil L. Smyser, 86, a longtime Royal City-Mattawa, Wash., area resident and former longtime Wenatchee, Wash., resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in Kadlec Medical Center at Richland, Wash.

She was born July 6, 1921, at Grabeel, Mo., to the late F. Luther and Sona E. (Denney) Thomas.

She was raised in Missouri where she met Al Brixey and they were later married on Dec. 29, 1938, at Kansas City.

They made their home in Ava, until moving to Wenatchee in December 1952.

Versil attended Wenatchee Business College before going to work at the Wenatchee World. She worked at the Wenatchee World through the mid 1950s prior to opening the Corral Drive Inn in East Wenatchee in 1957.

She also worked for Lincoln Savings and Loan in Bellevue and Lincoln Federal Savings and Loan in Ephrata. She later became manager of the Peoples Bank in Mattawa, retiring in 1987.

She and her husband spent the winters in Surprise, Ariz., in their retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Brixey, in 1988.

She met and was later married on May 11, 1991 to Richard L. Smyser, at Mattawa, Wash.

Versil attended the Baptist Church in Mattawa, was a former member and helped in the building of the Royal City First Baptist Church, was a former longtime member of the Wenatchee First Baptist Church, and a former member of the Desert Aire Golf Club.

She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Smyser, of Desert Aire, Wash.; three sons, Ron and Ruby Brixey, East Wenatchee, LeRoy and Ruth Brixey, Desert Aire, Wash., and Darrel and Linda Brixey, of Mattawa, Wash.; two stepsons, J.R. and Pat Smyser, and Rex and Lisa Smyser, all of the Tri-Cities, Wash.; one sister, Phyllis Fleetwood and husband, Ron, Ava; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Annavee Sallee and husband, Ted, of Ava, and one brother, Kenneth Thomas and wife, Elnora.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 14, at 10 p.m., in Wenatchee Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Rushing officiating.

A memorial service was also held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, in the Presbyterian Church at Desert Aire.

Friends who wish may make memorial donations in her name to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Arrangements were in the care of Jones and Jones Funeral Home, Wenatchee, Wash.

Violet M. Adams, 86

May 24, 2007

Violet M. Adams, 86, passed away Monday May 21, 2007.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Leo C. Adams, five brothers and four grandchildren.

She is survived by three sisters and one brother; her children, Fern Brown, Barbara Braley and husband Roger, Howard Adams, and Bonnie Bedell and husband, Gregg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Violet gave generously of her time and talents by being active in the following organizations for 35 to 65 years as a member/officer: Longfellow/Union Hill Neighborhood Association - Awarded Kansas City Neighborhood Alliance Anchor Award for 52 years service to Longfellow School Community, Union Hill Development Steering Committee, Missouri Federation of Republican Women - Awarded the first annual "Tribute to Missouri Women", graduated School of the Ozarks 1939 and participated in Alumni Association for 65 years, receiving the Alumni of the Year Award; Quilters Guild of Kansas City, election board supervising judge; Women's Missionary Council/ Sunday School Teacher - Central Assembly of God Church; Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader; Preschool/Elementary PTA; Radio and TV Communication Council; Diabetes and Spinal Bifida Associations; and she received the first Marie Reinford Achievement Award.

Violet and Leo operated Adams Auto Electrical Service in Kansas City for 34 years.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City.

Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Mo.

Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City.
