Carroll Max Morrison, 65, Ava, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005.
He was born June 22, 1939, at Highlonesome, Mo., the son of William "Bill" and Matle (Nelson) Morrison.
On Nov. 7, 1948, Max was baptized and joined the Missionary Baptist Church.
On July 29, 1960, he was united in marriage to Doris Hinton at Sparta.
This union was blessed with the birth of an only daughter, Patricia.
Max was a truck driver but especially enjoyed his farm life and his registered limousin cattle.
He was a supportive fan of his grandsons and cherished their "togetherness" every day after school.
He also spent his leisure time fishing, hunting, and being a good neighbor.
His winning personality made him a friend to all the lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Morrison.
Max is survived by his loving wife, Doris; his caring daughter, Trish Hall, and husband Gary; two special grandsons, Clint and Colton Hall, all of Ava; three sisters, Luetta Willis, Springfield, Ortha Lawrence, Ava, and Huba Rozell of Chadwick; two brothers, Dillon Morrison, and wife Carol, of Springfield, and George Morrison, and wife Janie, of Oldfield; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many caring friends.
Funeral services for Max were held Friday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m., in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Vernon Fuller officiating.
Burial followed in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Bennie J. Johnson, 63

Bennie J. Johnson, age 63, of Amboy, Ill., died at KSB Hospital in Dixon, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005.
He was born in Smallett, Mo., on Aug. 25, 1941, the son of Earnest and Lela (Wilkinson) Johnson.
He was employed by Luja Tiling and Excavating in Amboy for 31 years.
He was a member of the Musician's Union and had played with two local bands, the Country Playboys and the Rhythm Ramblers.
He was united in marriage to Susan Hintz in Dixon, Ill., on Oct. 2, 1976.
He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Barbara Lee Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, of Amboy, Ill.; four sons and their spouses, Bobby Johnson, Ark., Tony and Tami Johnson, Amboy, Ill., Bennie, Jr. and Anne Johnson, Tenn., David Johnson, Dixon, Ill.; two daughters, Lela "Cricket" and Dan Spurgeon, Dixon, Ill., and Debbie Johnson, Amboy, Ill.; six grandchildren; his mother, Lela Johnson, Squires; two brothers and their spouses, Bill and Fannette Johnson, Maui, Hawaii, Lennie and Ann Johnson, Squires; four sisters and their spouses, Imogene and Bob Entwistle, Ava, Marcelene and Ben Casey, Ozark, Gloria and Dwain Moore, Ava, and LaVella and Carl Streight, Ava; and several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be Friday, March 4, 10 a.m., at the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with the Rev. Dwain Moore officiating.
Interment will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Ava.
Visitation is Thursday, March 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Clinkingbeards.
There was also a visitation on March 1 at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, Ill.
Memorials can be made to the Amboy Fire Dept. or Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Marie A. (Webster) Coffman Ross, 84

Marie A. (Webster) Coffman Ross, 84, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 17, 2005.
The daughter of Ernest and Shirley (Bunch) Webster, Marie was born on Nov. 15, 1920, in St. John, Kan.
On June 1, 1941, Marie and Gordon O. Coffman were united in marriage in Ulysses, Kan., and to this union, four children were born.
Mr. Coffman died in 1980 and she later married Robert Ross in October 1986.
Marie owned and operated a Mary Carter Paint Store with her husband, Gordon Coffman.
She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church at Ava.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husband, a daughter, Irene Coffman, two brothers, Raymond and Ernest Jr. Webster, and one sister, Charolette Wilson.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Bernice Kellogg and husband, Warren, Valley Center, Kans., and Glenda Jean Young, Ottawa, Kan.; a son, Ronald G. Coffman and wife, Annette, Franklin, Ind.; five grandchildren, Steve Snyder and wife, Martha, Shawn Snyder, Sherry Chapman and husband, Dave, Donna and the Rev. Paul Hutchison, and Malaya Powell; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Holly, Collinsville, Okla., and Alice Lirley, Ava; one brother, John Webster, Ava; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Red Bank Baptist Church, Ava, with the Rev. Paul Hutchison officiating.
Interment was in the Union Grove Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Red Bank Church.
Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Neil E. Stillings, 79

Neil E. Stillings, son of Ray E. Stillings and Mary Ethel Haynes Stillings, was born on Sept. 11, 1925, in Arno, and passed away on Feb. 20, 2005, in Forsyth, at the age of 79.
Neil was a resident of Forsyth, for the past six years moving from Ava where he lived most of his life.
Neil was a street and water supervisor for the City of Ava for over 20 years.
He also was Volunteer #7 for the Ava Fire Department.
He became a member of the Mt. Tabor General Baptist Church in 1954 and he was a World War II veteran.
On Sept. 9, 1950, Neil and Ima D. Thomas were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, Ark., and to this union, two children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Fayma Geraldine Marten.
Survivors include his wife, Ima, of the home in Forsyth; one son and wife, Arliss Ray and Linda Stillings, Forsyth; one daughter and husband, Jennifer Kay and Keith Dougherty, Branson; four grandchildren, Elisha Neil and Jonas Peter Stillings and Kelsey Christian and Darby Keegan Dougherty; three brothers, J.B. "Benny" Stillings, Ava, Stanley Stillings, Fulton, and Lawrence Ray Stillings, Ava; one sister, Florence Albin, LaPine, Ore.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.
Interment will be in the Ava Cemetery with full military honors by Douglas County American Legion Post 112 and Ava VFW Post 5993.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time.
Memorials can be made to the Alzheimers Association or the donor’s choice.

Shannen R. Dobbs, 27, of Ava, died Tuesday afternoon in Ozark County.

Gary Dale Mitchell, 62

Gary Dale Mitchell, son of the late Carlos Fay and Dorothy (Lucas) Mitchell, was born on April 7, 1942, in Wright County, Mo., and passed away on Feb. 17, 2005, in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, following a short illness. He was 62.
Gary grew up and attended school in Wright County, and was united in marriage to Monique Greth.
Four children were born to this union.
He served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on Aug. 27, 1971.
He was also a member of the VFW Post 3770 in Mtn. Grove.
Gary was employed as a cook for the Fordland Honor Camp for several years.
He enjoyed being outdoors, especially when fishing, and he also liked to play bingo and spend time with his family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnnie Mitchell, Freddie Mitchell and Gaylord Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife, Monique Mitchell; three sons, Steven Mitchell and wife, Angela, of Fordland, Kelly Mitchell and wife, Kathy, of Fort Lewis, Wash., and Stacy Mitchell and wife, Tracy, of Ava; one daughter, Pamela Bowen and husband, Tom, of Blackshear, Ga.; five brothers, Roy Mitchell, Hartville, Darrell Mitchell, Blue Springs, Terry Mitchell, Mtn. Grove, Robert Mitchell, Norwood, and James Mitchell, Mansfield; three sisters, Barbara Burdick, Hartville, Mary Charpentier and Jackie Mitchell, both of Mtn. Grove; 12 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Mountain Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Curtis officiating.
Full military rites were provided by the American Legion Post 30 with Jared Moore serving as bugler.
Burial was in Mountain Valley Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Funeral Home of Mtn. Grove.
Dora Maggard, 97

Dora Maggard, the daughter of John W. Nelson and Barbara Ellen (Applegate) Nelson, was born June 4, 1907, in Douglas County, and departed this life Feb. 21, 2005, at the age of 97.
On Nov. 4, 1924, Dora and Henry Maggard were united in marriage in Ava and to this union, three children were born.
Dora was a resident of the Eastern Gate community for most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Gate Church. She loved crocheting, planting flowers and gardening.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; three children, Floyd Maggard, Hollyce Smith and Leona Herries; one grandchild; three brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by two sons-in-law, Tom Herries, Taylor, Texas, and James Smith, Rogersville; one daughter-in-law, Wanda Maggard, of Ozark; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 24) in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Joe Lafferty officiating.
Interment will be in the Hall Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Adrian W. Sellers, 80

Adrian W. Sellers, 80, of East Moline, Ill., died Feb. 12, 2005, at Forest Hill Health and Rehab Center, East Moline.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, with a visitation one hour prior to service time at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., Moline.
Burial was at National Cemetery.
Adrian was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Rome, Mo., to Virgil and Lula Thompson Sellers.
He married Patsy Mazzarollo in Mtn. Home, Ark., in 1949.
Adrian was a forge hammer operator for Deere Harvester for 30 years.
He was a World War II Army veteran serving at Omaha Beach, Normandy, and at the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a deacon at Moline Gospel Temple where he also drove the church bus and brought people from the nursing home to church. He also loved to read Scripture.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Sellers, East Moline; his children, Rodney (Joy) Sellers, Davenport, Iowa, Cindy Lester, Moline, Ill., and Terry Sellers, Sherrard, Ill.; grandchildren, Tricia Thurman, Christa Thurman, Michael Sellers, and Jacob Sellers; great-grandchild, Preston Thurman; one brother, Harold (Diane) Sellers, Naperville, Ill.; one sister, Sharon (Jerry) Wood, Ava; a brother-in-law, Earl Walley, Ava; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Audrey Walley.

Cheyenne Lynn Reese, infant daughter of Cecil Reese and Danika Beaman, was born at Cox South Hospital at 9:05 a.m., and departed this life at 3:02 p.m., March 6, 2005, in Springfield.
Cheyenne's survivors include her parents, Cecil and Danika, of Ava; maternal grandparents, Danny and Sherry Lee, Ava; paternal grandparents, Rosa and James Dye, Ava; maternal great grandparents, David and Sue Ross, of Indiana; paternal great-grandparents, Lilly and the late Anzel Reese, Ava; paternal great-grandparents, Francis and Rosie Dye, Ava; maternal great great-grandfather, Charles Schaffer, of Indiana; paternal great great-grandfather, James Murray, Manard, Ark.; paternal great great-grandmother, Maxine Reese, Pekin, Ill.; maternal great great-grandmother, Lois Brumback; several aunts, uncles, and other relatives and friends.
Services for Cheyenne Reese were held Tuesday, March 8, in Clinkingbeard Chapel, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Gary Stigall officiating.
Burial followed in the Ava Cemetery.
Boyd H. Turley, 72

Boyd H. Turley, son of Worden and Velma Rice Turley, was born June 21, 1932, at Ditt, Mo., and passed away Feb. 28, 2005, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, at the age of 72.
Boyd grew up in Ozark County, moved to Kansas City, and had lived in Ava for the past 42 years. He held various positions in the lumber business before retiring to their family farm. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Ava and Gideons International.
On Dec. 22, 1951, Boyd and Nina Sue Peacock were united in marriage in Mtn Home, Ark. They were blessed with three daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Larry Dean.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Nina Sue, of the home; daughters, Suzette and husband, David Litwiller, Phyllis Turley, and Gail and husband, Randy Dalton; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Lurene and Leon Harris, Ava; brothers, Donald and wife, Leveta, Edwardsville, Kan., Conley and wife, Violet "Honey", Kansas City, Kan., and Rondol and wife, Kathy, Kansas City, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Randy Dalton and Robert Roberts officiating.
Interment will be in the Lutie Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Oren Alcorn.
Memorials may be made to Gideons International or the Lutie Cemetery Fund.
