Larry Louis Phillips, the son of Leroy Phillips and Dorothy Fern (Johnson) Phillips, was born Sept. 10, 1940, in Bruner, and departed this life April 24, 2007, at the age of 66.
Larry was a lifelong resident of the Bruner community. He was a warehouseman with the Associated Wholesale Grocers for 31 years. He was a member of Teamster Union #245. Larry served his country with U.S. Army.
On Aug. 23, 1965 Larry and Dorothy Suggs were united in marriage in Dogwood. Larry and Dorothy were blessed with two children.
Larry enjoyed hunting in Colorado, mushroom hunting, digging ginseng and goldenseal with his son, and being with all his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, and two brothers, Bill and Carol Joe.
Larry is survived by his wife, Dorothy of the home, Bruner; two children, Carol Poindexter and husband, Danny, Sparta, and Michael Phillips and wife, Gina, Bruner; his mother, Dorothy Fern Phillips, Bruner; three grandchildren, Bethany and Scott Poindexter, and Megan Phillips, all of Sparta; one great-grandson, Austin Rains; three sisters, Shirley Halcomb, Oldfield, Mary Essary, Springfield, and Vicki Ipock, Seymour; six brothers, Jack Phillips, Sparta, Doyle (Sid) Phillips, Gene Phillips, Donald Phillips and John Phillips all of Bruner, and Dale Phillips, Sparta; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Bruner, with the Rev. Carnel "Bally" Johnson officiating.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Robert Leroy Burns, 69

Robert Leroy Burns was born Dec. 13, 1938, to Robert Franklin and Dorothy Marie (Weir) Burns, in Anderson, Ind.
Bob went to the Lord on April 26, 2007, at 1:05 a.m.
He graduated from Ben Davis High School and the Indiana State Police Training Academy. He worked for the Indiana State Police for 35 years in all manners of criminal investigation. He retired in 1994 as a commander in the Major Drug Section. He was then promoted to Chief Cook and Bottle Washer with his wonderful wife, Nancy.
On July 14, 1979, he married Nancy Kay Cover.
Bob and Nancy decided to move to Missouri in 2000. They fell in love with the Missourians and friendliness of their neighbors. They enjoyed Missouri Fox Trotters even before moving to Missouri.
Bob served as chairman of the board for SMMBCH, president of DCFTHBA Affiliate, and chairman of the MFTHBA Trail Committee. He also served on the Ethics Committee, Budget and Finance Committee and is a lifetime member of the MFTHBA. He was also a member in good standing with the Ava Saddle Club. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Scott Burns, Chris Burns and wife, Debbie, and Larry Burns and wife, Pam; stepchildren Scott E. Cover and wife, Samantha, Brandi Haskett and husband, Ryan and Amber Cover; a brother, Donald Burns and wife, Patty; sisters Julia Burns, and Jan Goetsch and husband, Tom; as well as several nieces, nephews, grand- and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life memorial service was held Tuesday, May 1, at 10 a.m., at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Carolyn Laura Green Horton, age 48, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, in Wichita Falls.
Carolyn was born March 24, 1959, in Catarina, Dimmit County, Texas to Walter Carol and Kathryn Frances (Brown) Green.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church.
She moved to Wichita Falls from Newcastle Texas in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carol Green, on Nov. 21, 2000.
Survivors include her mother, Kathryn Green of Olney, Texas; three sons, Mark Horton and wife, Kalana of Graham, Texas, Matthew Green, of Olney, Texas, and Joshua Sparks of Dennison, Texas; three daughters, Shayla Corwin and husband, Mark of Olney, Texas, Katie Pierce, of Vernon, Texas, and Michala Sparks of Dennison, Texas; and six grandchildren, Dylan Horton and Camron Horton both of Graham, Texas, Andrea Corwin of Olney, Texas, Austin Horton of Graham, Texas, Taylor Corwin and Laine Corwin, both of Olney, Texas.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home with Rev. Garrett Kell, pastor of the Graham Bible Church, Graham, Texas, and Rev. Steve Collard, pastor of the Immanuel Baptist Church, Olney, Texas, officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Leo Wayne Harmon, 79

Leo Wayne Harmon, the son of George Loman Harmon and Opal (Workman) Harmon, was born June 30, 1927, in Garrison, and departed this life May 2, 2007, at the age of 79.
Leo was a longtime resident of the Ava area.
On July 10, 1945 Leo and Gloria Fletcher were united in marriage at Forsyth. Leo and Gloria were blessed with four children.
Leo worked as a logger and was a veteran, having served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Breedon Freewill Baptist Church as well as the American Legion Post 112.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, G.W. and Loren, and a daughter, Janice Collins.
Leo is survived by his wife Gloria; three children, Wayne Harmon and wife Ginger, of Ava, Aleita Harvey and her husband Leonard, of Camden, Ark., and Roger Harmon and wife, Melissa, Springfield; a son-in-law, Robert Collins, Forsyth; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Harvey, Camden, Ark., Christopher Harvey, Fayetteville, N.C., Ryan Harvey, Camden, Ark., Shane Harmon, Omaha, Ark., Robert Harmon, Bradleyville, Jackie Clements, Taneyville, Robin Fulkerson, Kirbyville, and Sara Blair, Bradleyville; 13 great-grandchildren, one sister, Virginia Cook, Bois D Arc; many other relatives, friends.
He was a beloved pastor and minister.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Don Brynildson and Vernon Fuller officiating, with interment following in the Goodhope Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.

Lorraine Harriet Jaconi, 85

Lorraine Harriet Jaconi was born Lorraine Harriet Cook, April 20, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York to Henry "Richard" Cook and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Fredericks.
She was raised and graduated from high school in South Ozone Park, Long Island, N.Y.
She passed away May 8 at the age of 85.
Lorraine was married Aug. 29, 1944 to Michael Jaconi during World War II. They lived in Oklahoma, Arizona, and California. Lorraine cared for her mother until her death in 1989.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Michael, on April 3, 1991.
Lorraine moved from Ava at that time to Mansfield to be closer to her family.
Lorraine is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jackson and husband, Jim, of Mansfield; grandchildren, Clay Jackson, of Springfield, Clint Jackson and Tara Jackson, of Mansfield; great-grandchildren, Rashawnda Sullivan and husband, Josh, of Diggins, and Shay Jackson, of Mansfield; one great-great-granddaughter, Mallory Sullivan, of Diggins; a brother, Elwood "Woody" Cook, and wife, Dolores, of Bluffton, S.C.; a special niece, Irene Place and husband, Ron, of Grovespring; special loved ones Danae and Calista Bogart, of Mansfield; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Lorraine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ava. She enjoyed her many years as volunteer for the Older Adults Transportation "OATS" bus. She did needle work and reading before her vision declined. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She baked the best cookies, and was fond of word games on the computer and e-mailing her family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Grovespring, with Pastor Wayne Strohschein officiating.
Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Homes of Mansfield.
Vivian Allen, 89

Vivian Helen Allen, the daughter Leroy Gay and Ethyl (Gardner) Gay, was born Oct. 31, 1917, in Souder, Mo., and departed this life May 2, 2007 at the age of 89.
Vivian was a resident of Nixa, for the past six years, moving from Ozark. She was a homemaker. She loved hunting for antiques, rock hounding, and looking for Indian artifacts.
On Feb. 17, 1945, Vivian and D.O. Allen were united in marriage in Lexington, Mo. Vivian and D.O. Allen were blessed with one son, Dennis.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Orievle Gay, and her husband, D.O. Allen.
She is survived by one son, Dennis Allen, Nixa; one brother, Bud Gay, Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Louise Sykes, of the state of Washington, Grace Miles, Columbia, and Bee Brandenberger, Lancaster, Ohio; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Cremation services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Mary Elizabeth Melton, 89

Mary Elizabeth Melton, the daughter of Walter Bullard and Emma May Pooler, was born May 12, 1917, in Independence, Mo., and departed this life April 18, 2007, at the age of 89.
Mary was a resident of the Ava area since 1980, moving here from Inglewood, Calif.
Mary and Charles Arthur Melton were united in marriage on June 6, 1939 in Ava.
Mr. Melton preceded Mary in death on Feb. 4, 2002.
Mary was a homemaker and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Also preceding Mary in death were her parents, and one sister, Eleanor Walters.
Mary is survived by six children, Charles "Chuck" Melton Jr., Ava, Dennis W. Melton, state of Georgia, Mary Beth Melton, Reading, Mass., and Patricia Wenke, David Melton and James Melton, all of the state of California; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy Tucker, Pleasant Hill; an honorary son, Don Boden; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in the Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, with Elder Kenneth Tucker officiating.
John Henry Grisham, 70

John Henry Grisham, son of James Joseph "Jim" Grisham and Letha Killion, was born on Sept. 26, 1936, in Elijah, Mo., and departed this life on April 29, 2007, at his home at West Plains at the age of 70 years.
John was a resident of West Plains for 30 years. He was a boilermaker for steel tanks.
On March 24, 1956 John and Joy Sanders were united in marriage in West Plains, and to this union, three children were born.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, listening to bluegrass music and spending time with his grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his father, mother, one brother, Donnie Ray and one sister Bonnie May.
He is survived by his wife, Joy of the home in West Plains; one son, Rick Grisham and wife, Trish, state of Michigan; two daughters, Kathey Fish, and Patty Ellis and husband, Brent, all of West Plains; one sister, Sue Brewer and husband, Donald, and one sister-in-law, Freda Grisham, all of West Plains; one brother-in-law, William Dale Sanders, Gainesville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held today (Thursday) at 7 p.m. at the South Fork Church near West Plains, with the Revs. Bill Jolliff and Mike Morris officiating.
John's body was donated to the School of Medicine, Gift of Body Program, University of Missouri-Columbia.
Arrangements were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
