Richard Charles Weston, the son of Charles Weston and Elmina Tinkham, was born June 6, 1933, in Massachusetts, and departed this life April 28, 2007, in Springfield, at the age of 73.
Richard was a resident of Squires, for the past 1 1/2 years, moving here from California. He was employed as a sheet metal engineer with Northrop in California for 30 years.
Richard was a veteran and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He served with the U.S. Army for four years and the Merchant Marines for four years.
Richard was a Christian and attended the Highway Church of the Nazarene. He loved his family dearly and thoroughly enjoyed fishing.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David.
He is survived by one son, Robert Stokes and wife, Careen, Squires; three grandchildren, Alena, Robbie, and Daniella; and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Fannon Cemetery, south of Ava, with Pastor Mark Hatcher officiating.
Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Darrell Christopher Woolsey, 59

Darrell C. Woolsey, son of Clinton Christopher Woolsey and Cora Senora (Miller) Woolsey, was born September 27, 1947, in Ava, and departed this life on April 22, 2007, in Springfield, at the age of 59.
Darrell was a life-long resident of the Ava community where he worked as a mechanic for several years for Barney Barnum. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served his country in the Vietnam War. While in the service, he worked on army helicopters.
Darrell was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Ava.
He enjoyed the outdoors and spent time fishing, hunting and playing sports. He also enjoyed playing pool and being with his family.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dewaine.
His survivors include four sisters, Lavon Carter, Mansfield, Nelma Lister, Ava, Gerldean Carter, Mansfield, and Linda Bass, Seymour; two brothers, Don Woolsey, Rogers, Ark., and Larry Woolsey, Ava; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Pastor Tom Maples officiating.
Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery with full military rites by Douglas County American Legion Post 112 and Ava VFW Post 5993.

Ada Juanita Williams, 86

Ada Juanita Williams, daughter of Rex and Gertrude (McDonald) Reed, was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Ada, Okla.
She departed this life Sunday, April 22, 2007, in Delmar Gardens on the Green, in Chesterfield, Mo., at the age of 86.
On Nov. 19, 1937, she was united in marriage to Ralph Van Williams Sr., and to this union, three sons and three daughters were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Van, on Aug. 5, 2006; her parents; a step-grandson, Travis Query; two brothers, Elzie and Bill Reed; and four sisters, Alta Hodges, Billie Reed, Vinita Tallman, and Sylvia Simmons.
Juanita is survived by three sons, Philip Williams, and his wife, Leota, of Warsaw, Stephen Williams, and his wife, Sherry, of Springfield, Van Williams Jr. and his wife, Debra, of West Plains; three daughters, Carol Merritt and her husband, Homer, of Sparta, Donna Green and her husband, Bill, of Sikeston, and Trudy Williams, of Ballwin; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Merle Reed, and his wife, Willie, of Ada, Okla.; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Ada, Okla. She met and married Van and they started their family in Mansfield and then moved to Erie, Kan. They also lived in Bradleyville, Ava, and later moved to Ozark.
Juanita had made her profession of faith in Christ and was affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, embroidering, and making beautiful quilts. She also loved cooking wonderful meals for her family.
Juanita was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) in Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Mansfield, with the Rev. Van Williams Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
Edna M. Butler Wright, 93

Edna Marie Butler Wright, the daughter of William Franklin Collins and Eva Ray Collins, was born on Nov. 18, 1913 in Wayne County, Ill., and departed this life on April 18, 2007, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, at the age of 93.
Edna was a homemaker. She was a resident of Ava for many years.
Edna was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ava.
She was married to Herman Monroe Butler and he preceded her in death and later she married Cecil Wright.
Edna loved quilting. She made beautiful handmade designed quilts. She also loved gardening, cooking, camping, fishing and her dog. She was a wonderful homemaker and a strong independent woman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, three sisters, Myrtle, Pearl, and Florence, and three brothers, Fred, Frank and Ed Collins.
Her survivors include numerous nieces and nephews; a good friend, Hulda Tipton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held Friday, April 20, at 2:30 p.m. at the Thornfield Cemetery, with Pastor Wayne Strohschein officiating.
Visitation was held Friday at 1 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Dean Deatherage, 31

Dean Deatherage, was born Nov. 27, 1975, in Mansfield, and departed this life April 8, 2007, at the age of 31. Dean was the son of Vernard "Vern" L. Deatherage Sr. and Wilma (Johnson) Potts.
Dean was a life-long resident of Ava. He was a substitute teacher at the Gainesville Schools. He loved the kids and teaching the Gainesville students.
He had received the following degrees from Drury University: BSC, BSP and BSS. Dean was enrolled for higher education and was hoping for a law degree. He enjoyed teaching, traveling, and eating his Uncle John's Monster Cookies. He had a zest for life that all will remember. He lived life to the fullest.
Dean is survived by his father, Vernard "Vern" L. Deatherage Sr. and Kathleen, of Ava; his mother, Wilma (Johnson) Potts, Mansfield; two brothers, Noah Deatherage, Selma, Ala., and Vernard Deatherage Jr., Farmington; maternal grandmother, Opal Johnson, Ava; paternal grandmother, Nora Deatherage Hunsaker, Mansfield; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Services will be 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 4 p.m. until service time.
Interment will follow in the Dyer Cemetery.
Edward "Ed" Christy, 87

Edward (Ed) Christy passed away Monday, April 16, 2007, at his home in Ava.
Ed entered this life on Jan. 20, 1920, in Wiley, Colo., one of 15 children of Lewis and Violet Christy.
Ed loved to work with wood and his craftsmanship was well-known in the area. He took great pride in creating something out of a piece of wood, whether it was a whole house or a small object. There are several people living in homes in the Ava area that are showcases of his workmanship.
He loved baseball games and never missed a domino game. He was involved in the community activities such as playing cards at the Senior Citizens Center and listening to music downtown. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was active in his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Violet; his wife and the mother of his children, Lois, and also his wife, Wilda; and one daughter, Martha Nichols; as well as 13 brothers and sisters.
Ed is survived by his wife, Bea, of the home; two daughters, Violet Blakey and husband, George, and Joyce Burton; one son, William and wife, Barbara; and a son-in-law James Nichols. He is also survived by one sister, Viola Denney, 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves a host of friends and family.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 19, in the Ava Family Funeral Home.
Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Iowa, on Monday, April 23, at 2 p.m.
All arrangements were under the direction of Ava Family Funeral Home.
Rexford Linder, 91

Rexford Linder, the son of Ed Linder and Tryphena (Bunnell) Linder, was born July 13, 1915, in Vera Cruz, Mo., and departed this life April 12, 2007 at the age of 91.
Rex was a resident of the Ava area for most of his life. He was a farmer and was employed as a truck driver for M.F.A. for 17 years.
Rex was a Christian. He was converted at the age of 84 and was baptized.
On Feb. 6, 1938, Rex and Edna Clinton were united in marriage in Douglas County. To this union four children were born.
Rex served his country during World War II with U.S. Army in the South Pacific. Rex enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Jane, two sisters and four brothers.
His survivors include his wife, Edna, of the home, Ava; one son, James (Butch) Linder and wife, Joyce, Ava; two daughters, Ruby Smith, Ava, and Delena Proctor, Mtn. Grove; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 16, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Robert Grisham officiating.
Interment followed in the Brushyknob Cemetery.
Visitation was Sunday from 5 to 6 p.m.
Military rites were conducted at the graveside by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.

Violet "Vi" Louise Woods, 78

Violet Louise Woods, the daughter of Frankie William Charmasson and Alice (Wells) Charmasson, was born Jan. 6, 1929 in Woodward, Okla., and departed this life April 13, 2007, at the age of 78.
Vi was a resident of Mansfield, for the past four years, moving there from Ava.
In 1946, Vi and Harold H. Coombes were united in marriage in Woodward, Okla.
After his passing she met and married Bob Woods on May 15, 1964, in Wichita, Kan.
Vi was a secretary for Production Credit Association for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield. Vi enjoyed crochet, reading, jigsaw puzzles, attending grandchildren's functions, going to Sunday school, and being a tour guide at Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museum. She became a reality show critic the last few years enjoying Dancing with the Stars, Deal or No Deal, and American Idol. Vi was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Ava.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Harold and Bob; one son, Jim Coombes; a son-in-law, Ron Durham; a brother Eli Charmasson; and a stepsister, Euleda.
Vi is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Durham, of Springfield, Brenda and Rod Garrett, of Springfield, and Sonya and Larry Hesterly, of Mansfield; a daughter-in-law, Linda Coombes Peters, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren, Rob and Sandy Durham, Jerry and Kim Durham, Angela Durham, Scott and Mindy Hesterly, Shelby and Chris Jenkins, and Ray Coombes; nine great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kyanni, Preston, Micah, Austyn, Gavynn, Samantha, Jordyn, and Riley. Also surviving is a sister, Eva Mae Wheeler; a half-sister, Connie Shirlene Garrett; one stepsister, Geneva Michaels; and a step brother Ray Covalt.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the First Baptist Church of Mansfield with Pastor Dick Bishop officiating.
Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery.
