Leslie Robert "Bob" Lunoe, 83

Bob Lunoe was born the son of Leslie Robert Lunoe and Hazel Nelson Lunoe in the Chicago, Ill., area on June 26, 1923, and departed this life in Marshfield, Mo., on Feb. 25, 2007, at the age of 83.

In World War II, Bob served his country with great distinction achieving the rank of PFC in the Civil Engineers Corp and working in Iceland, France, and Germany. Bob received the Bronze Star as well as the Purple Heart.

After the war, Bob spent a great deal of time working around and with steam locomotives. He was historian of the Yosemite Valley Railroad and was very proud of his two-year service, working at the Chicago Railroad Fair in the late 40s. He earned a degree in business from Monmouth College in Illinois.

On Nov. 24, 1951, Bob and Elsie Arlene Branom were united in marriage in Chicago, Ill., and to this union, two children were born.

Bob was also a farmer and a member of the Ava United Methodist Church.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elsie Arlene in 2004, and a son, Bill.

His survivors include his daughter, Joan Lunoe and husband, Scott Kennedy, Bronx, N. Y.; a niece, Cris Neighbors, Tucson, Ariz.; one nephew, Rick Bloomquist, Milwaukee, Wisc.; and many special friends at Ava United Methodist Church.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 3, at 1 p.m. at the Ava United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Greg Dowler officiating.

Burial of cremains will be in the Springfield National Cemetery at a later date.

Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veteran's Charitable Service Trust, www.dav.org.

Floyd W. Roberts, 82

Floyd Warren Roberts, 82, died at 8:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007.

Floyd was born at Brown Branch, Mo., on May 7, 1924, the son and eleventh child of George Allen Roberts and Alice M. (Day) Roberts.

Floyd married Gene Marie Boggs on Aug. 7, 1943.

Floyd attended the Barger School, also known as Possum Trot, on Caney Creek in Taney County. He served in World War II, fighting in France and Germany. After being honorably discharged from the war as a staff sergeant, he was a carpenter, and spent his life building houses.

Floyd was saved at a Fifth Sunday Meeting held at Bethel General Baptist Church in July, 1972, where his brother Glesco had preached. Floyd was later called to preach, being ordained by the presbytery of the White River Association of General Baptists, and held numerous revivals and pastored many General Baptist churches in the surrounding area. He lived all of his life in Taney and Douglas counties.

Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center was the home of Floyd for the past two years.

Floyd is survived by one daughter, Judith Clemans and husband Sammy, of Taneyville; two sons, Tommy Roberts and wife Marsha, of Ava, and Buddy Roberts and wife, Becky, of Forsyth; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Ann Posey Roberts, of Ava; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Lena Davidson, Selah, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Floyd in death, were his parents, George and Alice; his wife, Gene; and one son, Bill Roberts; four brothers; Willard, Archie, Elmo and Glesco; and six sisters; Mabel Lambeth, Alva Lambeth, Georgia Norman, Helen Hoffman, Erma Ewing, and Claudia Lawrence.

Funeral services under the direction of Whelchel Funeral Home of Forsyth, were held on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. at the White River Association Campgrounds near Taneyville.

Burial was in the Dann Cemetery at Brown Branch.

Hazel Gaddis, 91

Hazel Gaddis, daughter of Robert B. West and Mary Elizabeth Weathered West, was born on Aug. 8, 1915, in Collin County, Texas, and went home to be with her Lord with loving family with her on Feb. 15, 2007, in Ava, at the age of 91.

Hazel was a resident of the Ava community for five years, moving from Pueblo, Colo. She was a retired head cook at the hospital in Tucumcari, N.M.

On Dec. 15, 1938, Hazel and Hubert Ray Gaddis were united in marriage in Clayton, N.M., at the home of her preacher. To this union, six children were born.

Hazel was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Ava.

Hazel enjoyed quilting and watching any kind of sports on TV. When young, she loved to play baseball with her brothers and especially "burnout." As she had written in a family booklet, "her special times were having her children as being the best times of her life and trying to teach them right from wrong and seeing them give her grand- and great-grandchildren." Hazel loved her church and Sunday school class, and her special pastor, Tom Maples and his family. In her last few years, Hazel enjoyed living in the Ozarks where she loved watching the birds and other wildlife from her window.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Freddie; a granddaughter, Tracy; a son-in-law James Bogle; five brothers and five sisters; and two infant siblings.

Her survivors include five children, Freda Tyler and husband, Lew, Ava, Anita Bogle, Colorado Springs, Colo., Lynette Stueve, Sacramento. Calif., Vicki Stratford and husband, Jim, Pueblo, Colo., and Jim Gaddis, Loomis, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Hazel were held Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Pastor Tom Maples officiating.

Graveside services will be today (Thursday, Feb. 22) at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery, Pueblo, Colo., with the Rev. Doug Cox officiating and conducted by Romero Family Funeral Home, Pueblo, Colo.

The family requests memorials to Gideons International or First Southern Baptist Missions, P.O. Box 306, Ava, MO 65608.

Local arrangements are by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

Anthony (Tony) Ellison, 77

Anthony (Tony) Ellison, age 77, passed away on Feb. 16, 2007, in his home.

He was born March 15, 1929, in Douglas County, Missouri, to Homer Ellison and Dollie (Phillips) Ellison.

Tony served his country during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army.

On Oct. 24, 1959, Tony and Wanda Thomas were united in marriage in Ava.

Tony was a farmer and stockman. He enjoyed gun and knife collecting and loved hunting and his cattle.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Barbara and Virginia.

His survivors include his wife, Wanda, of the home, at Ava; two sons, Doug and his wife, Katie Ellison, Ava, and Jim Evans and wife Kelly, Jacksonville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Cody, Zach, Hollie and Jesse; one great-grandson, Wyatt; two brothers, Howard Ellison, Springfield, and Jerry Ellison, Ava; three sisters, Joan Pellham and Roma Mackey, both of Ava, and Billie Miller, Salmon, Idaho; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Joe Lafferty officiating.

Interment followed in the Goodhope Cemetery.

Military rites were conducted at the graveside by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.

The family requests memorials to Community Hospice or Goodhope Cemetery.

Rev. Floyd W. Roberts, 82

The Rev. Floyd W. Roberts, 82, Ava, passed away Tuesday evening, at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center, in Ava.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Whelchel Funeral Home of Forsyth.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Gideons International or Dann Cemetery.

Ruth Loraine Vinson, 78

Ruth Vinson was born March 19, 1928, one of five children born to Loren and Mina Thompson Jackson in the Sleeper community, near Lebanon.

She departed this life in West Plains, at the age of 78.

Ruth and Otto Vinson were married in Mountain Home, Ark., on Jan. 31, 1945, and to this union, two children were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson.

Ruth is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Otto, of the home in West Plains; her son, Alan and wife, Marilyn Vinson, of Columbia, and daughter Jacque and husband, Eric Julian, of Manitou Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Dr. Julie Neil and husband, Travis, Columbia, Russell Vinson, of Columbia, Shelly Vinson, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Erin Barragan and her husband, Carlos, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Ruth is also survived by two great-grandsons and a host of other relatives and friends. Ruth loved playing pinochle, and also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and looking after her family, especially her husband Otto.

Graveside services for Ruth Vinson were held Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m., in the Ava Cemetery, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.

Services were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

Loren E. "Gene" Witchey, 68

Feb 22, 2007

Loren Eugene "Gene" Witchey, the son of Glenn Witchey and Gladys M. Evilsisor Witchey, was born June 12, 1938, in Galena, and departed this life Feb. 14, 2007, at the age of 68.

Gene was a life-long resident of the Ava area. He graduated from Ava High School with the class of 1957. He was self-employed as a logger for over 37 years.

Gene was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He was also a member of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association and the Douglas County Horse Breeders Association. Gene loved raising fox trotter horses and loved his work and being with his family.

On July 18, 1964, Gene and Doris A. "Little Bit" Lohman were united in marriage in Green Rock, Ill. They were blessed with two daughters.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl and Robert "Bob" Witchey.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home at Ava; two daughters and their spouses, Vicki and Gary Shumate, Ava, and Kim and Larry Fincher, Everton; one brother, Cecil E. Witchey, Ava; three sisters, Arlyce Lankford, Brookline Station, Leona Arlene Springs, Warsaw, and Betty Kinyon, Ava; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Pastor Eddie Cabrera officiating.

Interment followed in the White's Creek Cemetery.

Military honors were provided by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the donors choice.

Hope Lorene Cox, 31

Hope Lorene Cox, 31, was born March 10, 1975, in Buffalo, and departed this life on Feb. 15, 2007, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield.

Hope is survived by her mother and step-father Martha and Don Massey of Mountain Grove; her father Keith Cox of Utah; three brothers Gary Cox, Mark Cox and wife Becky, Micha Cox and wife Bailey, all of Ava; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Hope was preceded in death by her sister Roxane Marie Cox, brother Steven Aaron Cox, maternal grandparents Clayborn and Flona Metcalf, and paternal grandparents Orville and Effie Cox.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 19, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor James Taylor officiating.

Burial followed in Rush Cemetery, Seymour.

Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until service time in the funeral home.
