Vernice Lois Uhlmann, the youngest of 10 children, was born Nov. 30, 1929, at Blanche, Mo., to Jake and Ada Stout, and passed away Feb. 10, 2007, in her home at Drury.
She was married to Charles Doin Uhlmann on June 6, 1948, who preceded her in death in April, 1997.
Their two sons and two daughters are all surviving. They are Steve and Debbie Uhlmann, of Drury, Lee Uhlmann, of Mtn. Grove, Marsha and Terry Henry, of Springfield, and Teresa and Ryan Richardson, of Walnut Shade; five grandchildren, Jeremy and Cindy Uhlmann, Nathan Uhlmann, Reuben Uhlmann, Renae and Tom Sattazahn, and Leslie Richardson; four great-grandchildren, Haley and Caleb Uhlmann, Hannah and Abigail Sattazahn and another little great-grandson Uhlmann, to be born in April.
Also surviving is a brother, Hugh Stout, of Lawrence, Kan.; five brother- and sisters-in-law, Mabel Uhlmann, Marjorie and Charles Taylor, Golda Stout, and Doris Stout; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Vernice became a Christian at the age of 18, and was a faithful member of the Gentryville Community Church.
She served on the Blanche Cemetery board for many years, and was a member of the White Oak Grove Women's Club. Several years ago, she delivered mail for the Drury Post Office for a short time. She spent considerable time in her favorite Bible, and will be remembered for her wonderful homemade bread, love of books, quilting, but most of all, serving her family.
Services for Vernice Uhlmann were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 14, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Burial was at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Blanche Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Blanche Cemetery fund.
Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home Ava.
Mary Ann Coonce, 66

Mary Ann Coonce, daughter of Bernie Miller and Eva (Yeisley) Miller, was born on Oct. 2, 1940, in Romance, Mo., in Ozark County, and went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 11, 2007, with her loving family by her side in Springfield, at the age of 66.
Mary Ann was a resident of the Ava community most of her life. She was a medical technician for the Ava (Chastains) nursing home and also in Mansfield for over 30 years.
On June 8, 1957, Mary Ann and William Woodrow Coonce were united in marriage in Stover, Mo., and to this union, five children were born.
Mary Ann was a member of the Mansfield Freewill Baptist Church.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, flowers and most of all, spending time with her family and praising her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and four brothers.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, William Woodrow "Woody" Coonce, of the home in Ava; six children and their spouses, Pam and Wayne Coy, Scranton, Ark., Bill and Janet Coonce, Seymour, Laura Hicks, Mansfield, Phillip and Tina Miller, Independence, Debbie and Rick Ritter, Ava, and Bub and Lorie Coonce, Squires; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Mike Miller, Independence, Jack Miller, Cortez, Colo., Rosie Miller, Joe Miller and Nellie Turner, all of Ava, Carol Gentry, Pensacola, Fla., Joann Kirkpatrick, Kansas City, Johnny Miller and Betty Jean (Miller), both of California; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Mary Ann were held Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with Brother Mike Jones officiating.
Interment followed in Fair View Cemetery (on U Highway).
Services were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

Audrey V. Tando, 75

Following a long hard battle with cancer, Audrey Virginia Tando, age 75, of Nixa, departed this life, Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, and cradled in the arms of her creator, was carried to her eternal resting place in heaven.
Lord knows, her lifestyle here on earth, entitles her to walk the streets paved with gold, and sit on the right side of God, as one of His most Precious Angels.
She was born March 20, 1931 in Bell, Calif., the daughter of Harvey and Roxie (Norris) Beason.
She was raised in Ava, and on June 6, 1953, was united in marriage to Fred Tando.
She was a Baptist by faith.
Audrey was a small woman with a big heart, and was loved by all who knew her. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed her family and friends. She was a member of the Fairview Antique Car Club and looked forward to the monthly meetings with her friends. She especially enjoyed the visits and traveling with her dear nephew and his wife, Ron and Pat Stevens.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 53 years, Fred Tando; two sons, Gregory Lee Tando, Aurora, and Jeffrey Dale Tando and dear partner, Pamela Allen, Springfield; a daughter, Pamela Sue Williams and husband Joe, Clever; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters; and three brothers.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Dean Tando in 1988, and a brother, Claude Beason.
A visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. today (Thursday) in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Hospice Care or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Anna Mae Carr, 69

Anna Mae Carr, 69, of East Moline, Ill., passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at her home.
Anna entered life on Feb. 24, 1937, in Ava, the daughter of Wilburn and Nancy Newberry Barlett.
She loved to be with her family and especially loved to cook. Anna cooked for Harvey's Restaurant, which later became Sharon's in East Moline, Ill. She also cooked for the American Legion. In her spare time, Anna loved to sew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, and a granddaughter, "Cati-Bug."
Anna is survived by three sons, Robert and Sharon Allison, of East Moline, Ill., Raymond and Laura Allison, of Minnesota, and Roy Carr, of East Moline, Ill. She is also survived by two daughters, Roberta and Bruce Abramson, of Minnesota, and Romona and Bobby Stephens, of Missouri; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ava Family Funeral Home.
A visitation is being held from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline.
Visitation here will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Burial will follow at Turkey Creek Cemetery east of Ava.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Louis Shriners Hospital.
Bonita Jean Collins, 60

Bonita Jean Collins, daughter of Henry and Bea (Enger) Balliet, was born Dec. 25, 1946, in Aberdeen, S.D., and passed away Feb. 10, 2007, at the age of 60.
On June 15, 1997, Bonita and Anthony Bulver were united in marriage, in Lindstrom, Minn.
Anthony and Bonita have lived in Ava, for the past five years, after moving here from Tucson, Ariz.
Bonita was the clinical coordinator for the Missouri Ozarks Community Heath Center. She loved treating people in the clinic and seeing to their medical safety.
Bonnie found peace at her farm in Lindstrom, in gardening and her chickens.
Survivors include her husband Anthony, of Ava; her parents, Henry and Bea Balliet, of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; two sons, Robert H. Collins and wife, Tammy, of Forest Lake, Minn., and Gary B. Collins, Minneapolis, Minn.; two brothers, Wayne Balliet, of Bismarck, N.D., and Wallace Balliet, of Valentine, Neb.; and three sisters, Beverly Chapman and husband, Michael, of Buffalo, Wyo., Brenda Stapleton and husband, Eric, of Japan, and Betty Donat, of Rathdrum, Idaho; and three grandchildren, Shelby, Erin and Cole Collins, all of Forest Lake, Minn.
Cremation services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Clinkingbeard Chapel.
John Benjamin Alsup, 82

Ben Alsup, 82, of Dewey, Okla., died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday at the Heritage Villa Nursing Center.
John Benjamin (J.B.) Alsup was born on July 20, 1924, to Logan and Tinnie (Procter) Alsup in Buckhart, Mo.
He joined the Navy and served with the Marine operations in World War II. He spent the majority of his career life in the oil fields. Close to retirement, he took up dairy farming, which brought him joy. Ben, or J.B. as he was known by all his friends and family, loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid supporter of all their activities including attending all the local wrestling matches, football, baseball, and basketball games. He would travel any distance to watch his grandchildren participate in their sporting events.
Ben enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing. He was a true jokester and a real joy.
He is survived by five sons, Daniel Rogers, of Dewey, Okla., William Rogers, of Bartlesville, Okla., John and his wife, Diana Alsup, of Columbia, Thomas Alsup, of Dewey, Okla., and Rocky and his wife, Deloris Alsup, of Monett; three daughters, Linda and her husband, Steve Denny, of Lenapah, Okla., Barbara and her husband, Joe Christian, of Verona, and Anna (Alsup) Bishop, of Seymour; best friend and ex-wife, Joyce Rogers; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, lifetime friends, Dane and Sandy Lambert, of Ava, and a host of close friends.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley Alsup, infant daughter, Joyce Alsup, two sisters, Helen Alsup and Noreen Hancock, grandson Raymond Brewer Jr., and granddaughter, Sarah Alsup.
Services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Walker-Brown Chapel with Rev. Orville Moody officiating.
Final committal rites were in the Denlow Cemetery east of Ava with the Rev. Buddy Boyd officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home.

Doy Pool Price, 82

Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, Doy Pool Price went home to be with his parents, brother, other family and his many friends. He was 82.
Doy was born the son of Jessie Dean and Mattie Lou Martin Price in the Wasola area on April 7, 1924 and lived his entire life in that community and in Ava.
On Dec. 20, 1947, Doy and Emogene Frye were married in Yellville, Ark., and to this union, two daughters were born.
In 1965, they opened their hearts to a foster son.
Doy was a farmer at heart, working hard to see that his family had everything he could provide; he also drove a truck and Ava School bus through the years. For enjoyment, Doy liked elk-hunting in Colorado, deer-hunting and fishing here at home, and also going on vacations with his children and grandchildren.
Doy was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Ava.
Doy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Emogene; two daughters, Wanda and Johnnie Johnson, and Brenda and Daymon Milligan, all of Ava; a special son John and Kathy Borawski, of Liberty, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jo, Jennie, and James Johnson, and Julie Taylor, all of Ava, and Brendan Price, of Springfield; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and their spouses, Lynn and Norma Price, Holden, Mo., and Lyle and Betty Price, Wasola; three sisters, Virginia Burnett, Ava, Glenda Beach, Holden, and Hettie Cooper, Wasola; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Doy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Audie Price.
Funeral services for Doy Price were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in Clinkingbeard Chapel with burial following in the Ava Cemetery, with the Revs. B.J. Evans and Tom Maples officiating.
The family requests memorials to Community Hospice (Mtn. Grove) or Ava Senior Citizens in care of the funeral home.
Services were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Sammie K. Blevins, 85

Sammie K. Blevins, 85, of Nixa, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
Sammie was born and raised in Wright County.
He married Amel Long in 1939, in Douglas County. They were happily married for 62 years before Amel's death.
They made their home in Wright County, leaving in 1955, to make their home in the Springfield and Nixa area.
He worked for Kraft Foods for 27 years, retired and spent the remaining years enjoying his lifelong love for raising and showing foxtrotting horses. He was a charter member of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association, Ava. He and Amel enjoyed selling and trading horses all over the United States. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Nixa.
Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and his wife, Amel.
He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis and husband, Jim Edwards, and Georgia Wilcox, all of Springfield; one special niece, Farrel Ivy, of Ozark; several other nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, Cynthia Edwards, Jeffrey Edwards, Kayla O'Neal, and Jennifer Falter; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Springfield, with interment in Delaware Cemetery, Nixa.
