Blythe Noel Burton, the deeply-loved and awaited-for infant daughter of Brian and Rosemary Burton, was stillborn Jan. 4, 2007. Blythe is resting peacefully in the arms of God.
Blythe is survived by her parents, one brother, Brandon Burton, and one sister, Brianna Burton, all of the home; maternal grandparents, Ray and Verna Peckinpaugh, and paternal grandparents, Thomas and Sarah Burton, all of Middletown, Ind.
Cremation was under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Billy Lee Howard, 53

Billy Lee Howard, the son of James Howard and Jessie (Beavers) Howard, was born Sept. 4, 1953, in West Plains, and departed this life Jan. 4, 2007, at the age of 53.
Billy was a lifelong resident of the Ava area. He was employed as a truck driver and owned and operated his own truck.
On July 12, 1974, Billy and Nona Marie Downs were united in marriage in Ava. Billy and Marie were blessed with three children.
Billy enjoyed gardening and being with his family and friends.
He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Billy was preceded in death by his father, James Howard.
He is survived by his wife, Nona Marie, three children, Misty Dawn Howard, Billie Leanne Howard and Dustin James Howard, all of Ava; a foster son, James Osborn, Springfield; his mother, Jessie Howard, Dora; two sisters, Mrs. Gayle Barnes, Springfield, and Mrs. Linda Smith, Cuba, Mo.; one brother, Ronnie Howard, Dora; and host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Bro. Bobby Davidson, Bro. Ed Williamson and Bro. Ron Alexander officiating.
Interment followed in the Whites Creek Cemetery, Ava.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Velma Watson, 86

Velma Watson, the daughter of William Tannehill and Lola (Points) Tannehill, was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Ozark County, and departed this life Jan. 5, 2007, at the age of 86.
Velma was a lifelong resident of the area.
On Sept. 10, 1947, Velma and Calvin Watson were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, Ark. She and Calvin were blessed with two children.
Velma was a member of the General Baptist Church.
She and her husband owned and operated a general store for 21 years and she was also a nurses' aid for 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Calvin, three brothers and two sisters.
Her survivors include one son, Carl Watson, and a daughter, Lola Watson, both of Ava; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.
Interment followed in the Lutie Cemetery, Theodosia
Donna Marie Barnes, 55

Donna Marie Barnes, 55, of Prairie Village, Kan., was born March 30, 1951, to George Oren and Leona Marie Barnes, of Ava.
Donna passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she had devoted 37 years of her life working in the Department of Urology.
Donna was the urology residency coordinator for over 30 years. She was featured in the February 2006 issue of Ingram's Business Magazine as a "Heroes in Healthcare." Her devotion at the University of Kansas Medical Center was unmatched by her devotion to her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her son, Kenny Anderson and wife, Monica, of Mission, Kan., and daughter Lynne Schutt and husband, Mark, of Shawnee, Kan.; four grandchildren, Kourtney Anderson, Kenny Anderson, Sydney Schutt and Mason Schutt; her mother, Leona Barnes of Olathe, Kan.; her siblings and their spouses, Melva Dean Johnson (Bob) of Des Arc, Ark., Gale Barnes (Joy) of Buffalo, Gary Barnes (Carol) of Overland Park, Kan., Deanne Cervantes (Steve) of San Diego, Calif., and many precious nieces, nephews, dear friends, and colleagues; especially, Jana Parrett, who was like a sister to Donna, and an aunt to Kenny and Lynne, for over 30 years.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, David Freund, and father, Oren Barnes.
Services were held Thursday, Jan. 4, at 12 noon at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel; burial was in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Gladys Medlock, 83

Gladys Medlock, the daughter of Lloyd Burge and Mable (Locke) Burge, was born May 20, 1923, in Ouray, Colo., and departed this life Jan. 8, 2007, at the age of 83.
Gladys was a lifelong resident of the area.
On Aug. 26, 1942, Gladys and Tommy Medlock were united in marriage in Springfield. Gladys and Tommy were blessed with four children.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Gentryville Community Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, handcrafts, raising flowers and bird watching.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dick and Kenny Burge; and her husband.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Ross, Drury; Golda Cain and husband, Baruch, Norwood; two sons, David Medlock and wife, Penny, Vanzant, and Ronald Medlock and wife, Charlene, of Houston; 15 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Margaret Cooley and husband, Lee, Mtn. Grove, and Lois Stoops, Brea, Calif.; one brother, Melvin Burge, Ft. Smith, Ark.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. J.D. Williams officiating.
Interment will follow in the Pleasant Home Cemetery.

Mary Ann McGinnis Searcy, 73

Mary Ann McGinnis Searcy was born June 29, 1933, in Ozark County, the eldest of three children of Lonnie Jones and Bessie (Lansdown) Jones Pyland.
She departed this life Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at Rocky Ridge Manor, Mansfield.
On May 4, 1950, Mary and Junior Ray McGinnis were married in Manilla, Ark., and to this union, eight children were born.
On Feb. 28, 1986, she was united in marriage to Jack Searcy.
Mary worked as a young girl picking cotton and vegetables, and later in nursing homes and factories. Mary loved to sew and stitched every garment and quilt for her family with love. She was a loving wife, mother, friend and most importantly, a Christian. All through her illness, she relied on her faith in God for her strength.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Franklin, her sister, Ruth, the father of her children, Junior McGinnis, a daughter, Susan, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Jack, of the home; one son, Jackie and Marylyn McGinnis, of Thornfield; six daughters, Sharon and Russ Thompson and Sandra Beck, both of Springfield, Sheila Greene, of Kimberling City, Selina and Rick Burchett, of Ava, Judy and Mike Jones, Rogersville, Teresa and Stacy Miller, Ava, and two stepsons, Fred and Doris Searcy, Ava, and Alvin and Irene Searcy, Brixey; and one stepdaughter, Martha Searcy, of Iowa. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Ava Family Funeral Home, with burial in the Hilo Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Richard Anthony Perkins, 78

Richard Anthony Perkins, age 78, was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Chicago, Ill.
He departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, in Springfield, after a short illness.
On Dec. 11, 1965, he was united in marriage to Susan Brown.
Richard lived in the Chicago, Ill., area, and Stevens Point, Wisc., before moving to Ava three years ago. Richard served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, earning a Bronze Service Star. He was a painter by profession, taking great pride in his work, whatever the size of the project, whether a water tower or Wal-Mart building.
He was devoted to his family. He and Susan shared activities such as dancing and bingo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dennis.
Richard is survived by his wife, Susan, of the home; three daughters, Donna and Tom Hilger, Isabella, Nancy Gyrch, Stevens Point, Wisc., and Dale and Harlan Phelps, Mtn. Grove; two sons, Donald and Chris Fabian, Las Vegas, Nev., and Richard Perkins Jr., Stevens Point, Wisc.; a sister, Jenny Reiman, Beecher, Ill.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; as well as a host of friends and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Ava Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating.
Burial was in the Ava City Cemetery with full military honors.
Geralda L. Roy, 75

Geralda L. Roy, 75, originally of Dora, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at her home in Mtn. Grove.
Geralda was born Sept. 25, 1931, in Drury, to Gerald T. and Elaine (Upshaw) Shannon.
She graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1949.
In 1950, she married Paul H. Roy in Mtn. Home, Ark., and to this union, four children were born.
They moved to Dora in 1954, where Paul and Gerry joined Paul's family in the merchant business.
Gerry worked beside her husband in the business as co-owner of Roy's Store and North Fork Outfitters in Dora. She also served as monitor of local weather for the National Weather Service for 37 years.
Gerry and Paul attended the Odom Church of Christ.
She and Paul retired in 1994 and turned their time and energy toward family, friends and gardening. She was an avid cook and homemaker who also loved hunting and fishing with her husband, sons, and grandchildren. Gerry will be remembered for her honest wit and humor, her great cooking and service to others.
Besides her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Roy, and her brother, Barker Shannon.
She is survived by her brother, C.D. Upshaw; her children and their spouses, Jerry Paul Roy and Jaqueline Hickam, of Springfield, Janis (Roy) and Don Kelly, of Norwood, Monte and Patti Roy, of Chesterfield, and Chris Roy, of Drury; her grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, Mackenzie, Travis and his wife, Sheryl, Jennifer and her husband, Jimmy, Housten and his wife, Jerrica, John and his wife, Heidi, Carrie, Bridget and her husband, Isaac, Clayton, Austin, Mikee, Michelle and her husband, Justin, Lindsay, Kelsey, Christine, Jason, and Lily Grace; 13 great-grandchildren, Ty, Emma, Max, Jaylene, Titus, Joelle, Trever, Josie, Trey, Addison, Ava, Cameron and Regan.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the First Christian Church, Mtn. Grove, with Dr. Don Hamby and the Rev. Fred Hamby officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Community Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
