Wanda (Miller) Haynes, the daughter of Hermie Miller and Angie (Workman) Miller, was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Douglas County, and departed this life March 15, 2005, at the age of 85.
Wanda was a lifelong resident of the Ava area. She was a homemaker and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Wanda had a great sense of humor.
She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Ava.
On Jan. 4, 1951, Wanda and James Lawrence Haynes were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, Ark.
Mr. Haynes preceded Wanda in death on March 31, 2000.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Retha Norris, a granddaughter, April, and one infant son.
Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Warrick, Rogersville, Larry Haynes, Tulsa, Okla., and Mark Haynes, Branson; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Bryan, Alyssa, Timothy and Rebecca; one great-granddaughter, Mikayla; two brothers, Joe Miller and Lawrence Miller, both of Ava; a beloved niece, Connie Holobaugh, Ava; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 18, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Maples officiating.
Interment will follow in the Ava Cemetery.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Disabled American Veterans.
Robert Clovis Fisher, 84

Bob Fisher was born on Jan. 23, 1921, in Iola, Kans., and passed away on March 9, 2005, in Sacramento, Calif., from complications of a stroke he suffered a few years ago.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Jean Fisher; his daughter, Cheryl Hronec, of Sacramento, Calif.; his sons, Daryl Fisher, and wife, Mary Lynn, of West Sacramento, Calif., and Greg Fisher, and wife, Kelly, of Sacramento, Calif.; his beloved grandchildren, Bryan, Marc, Eric, Carrie, Ty, Paul and Kyle; his sister-in-law, Marjorie Roper, and husband, Vance, of Springfield; his brother-in-law, Bill Cline, and wife, Linda, of Davis, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Zola Fisher, Sacramento, Calif.; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glen and Adelaide Cline, of Ava.
Bob and Jean moved to West Sacramento, Calif., and started their family shortly after he returned from World War II, where he served for over three years in the Pacific with the 33rd Infantry Division, seeing military action in New Guinea and the Philippines.
Bob worked as an electrician for 39 years for the Southern Pacific Railroad before retiring in 1984.
He was also very active in his electrician’s union and held a number of union offices over the years.
After his retirement, he loved to travel up and down the state of California in his Winnebago, made numerous trips back to the Midwest to visit relatives, and he also enjoyed reading, camping, gambling at Lake Tahoe casinos, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a gentle and caring man who worked hard all his life and was dedicated to his wife and family.
He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
At Bob’s request, no funeral services will be held.
His ashes will be scattered at his favorite campsite by his family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements were handled by River Cities Funeral Chapel of West Sacramento under the direction of Jon Daniel.
Alvin Earl Spring, 64

Alvin Earl Spring, son of Fred Bernard Spring and Nellie Lea (Nicholson) Spring, was born Sept. 29, 1940, in Ava, and departed this life March 15, 2005, at the age of 64 years.
Alvin was a lifelong resident of the Ava area. Alvin served his country with the U. S. Army from 1960 to 1963.
March 17, 1973, Alvin and Patricia L. Rhodes were united in marriage in Ava, and to this union, two children were born.
He had been employed with Emerson Electric in Ava for over 20 years. Alvin enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing and hunting and being with his family and friends.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Patricia, of the home in Ava; one son, Terry Spring; and one daughter, Penny Spring, both of Ava; three brothers, James Spring, Rochelle, Ill., Ernest Spring, Tigard, Oregon, Fred J. Spring, Wichita, Kans.; two sisters, Velma Spring, Ava, and Mildred Provost, Springfield; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, March 17, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fannon Cemetery.
Darrell Wayne Small, 65

Darrell Wayne Small, son of Charles Alvin Small and Opal Mazel Johnson Small Salvey, was born on Sept. 27, 1939, in French Camp, Calif., and passed away on March 12, 2005, in Ava, at the age of 65 years.
Darrell was a resident of Ava for the past eight years, moving from Houma, Louisiana.
He was a Veteran and served his country in the U. S. Air Force.
In 1973, Darrell and Joan Halliwell were united in marriage in Las Vegas, Nev.
Darrell was a truck driver. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #3748 of Ava. He liked to hunt and fish and enjoyed NASCAR.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of the home in Ava; two sons and their spouses, Darren and Kim Small and Lanny and Mona Small, all of Houma, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Dustin, Christopher, Brooke, Gabrielle Small, of Houma, Louisiana; one sister and her husband, Sharon and David Dennie, Corpus Christi, Texas; three nieces, Judy Shields, Ava, Teresa Hadler, Irvine, Calif., and Michelle Mirabella, Riverside, Calif.; great nephews, Justin, George and Thomas; and one great-niece, Justyne; and other relatives and friends.
Cremation services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Eulah Turner Mitchell, 93

Eulah was one of ten children born to Alfred and Rosa Woods Turner in Ozark County on Sept. 2, 1911, and departed this life on March 12, 2005, at the age of 93 years.
Eulah spent her early years in the Thornfield community.
She became a Christian at an early age. Eulah was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Ava.
In 1937, she married Colin Payne, who preceded her in 1972.
In 1980, while living in Washington, she married Marshall Mitchell and acquired a large family, they later moved back to the Ava area, where Marshall preceded in 1994.
Eulah loved her quilting and going with Mary to garage sales and kept fond memories of years on the West digging clams along the beach.
Eulah’s survivors include, four step-sons and their spouses, Verl and Laurena Mitchell, of McClurg, Harold and Mary Mitchell, Ava, Ross Mitchell, Springfield, and Darrell and Donetta Mitchell, Taneyville; three step-daughters and their spouses, Lula Belle and Norman Hale, Oldfield, Cathy Green, Ava, and Crystal and Billy Stacy, Oldfield; 25 step-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; three brothers, Coy Turner and Leslie Turner, of Thornfield, and Lynn Turner, Ellis, Kans.; and one sister, Viola Clark, of Olympia, Wash.
Eulah was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 16, 10 a.m., at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Robert Roberts officiating. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery.
Nova June Tracy, 70

Nova June Tracy, 70, Belton, Mo., died February 25, 2005 at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kans.
Nova was born June 1, 1934. in Ava, to Joseph O. Huffman and Bertha Bell Privett Huffman.
She was married June 23, 1953 in Nevada, Mo. to Leland Tracy who survives of the home.
Mrs. Tracy moved to Kansas City from Nevada in the 1960’s. In 1990, she and her husband, Leland, moved to Belton where she lived the remainder of life. She was a homemaker and loving mother. Her family and friends were a very large part of her life. She loved planting and enjoying flowers, especially roses.
Mrs. Tracy was a Baptist.
In addition to her husband Leland, survivors include one son, Richard Allen Tracy, Missouri; one daughter, Lisa Jo Priddy, Belton, MO; five grandchildren; and one twin sister, Nola York, Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Lawrence V. Huffman, Luin Huffman and Calvin Huffman; and one sister, Roma Witchey.
Graveside services were held on Monday, February 28, 2005 at Newton Burial Park in Nevada,
Fisher Heath Harvill, Infant

Fisher Heath Harvill, infant son of Tad and Melanie (Arington) Harvill, of Mansfield, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield.
Fisher was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, L.P. “Shorty” and Dottie Robertson; maternal great-grandmother, Virginia Arington; and paternal great-grandmother, Billie Harvill.
Fisher is survived by his parents, Tad and Melanie Harvill, Mansfield; his maternal grandparents, Bill and Dede Arington, Ava; his paternal grandfather, Floyd “Tody” Harvill, Nixa; his paternal step-grandfather, Henry Welch, Norwood; his maternal great-grandfather, Rev. Wesley Arington, Springfield; his paternal great-grandparents, Loyd and Judith Harvill, Ozark; his paternal great-grandmother, Letha Matthews, Anderson, Mo.; his maternal great-great-grandmother, Rose Arington, Olathe, Kan.; and many numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends of the family.
Private graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Mansfield Cemetery, with the Revs. Robert Roberts and Max Stephens officiating, under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava.
Lawrence C. Wallace, 54

Lawrence C. “Larry” Wallace, 54, of Rock Island, Ill., died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Services were held Monday at the Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.
Burial was in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military rites conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 299.
Larry was born Oct. 21, 1950, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Lester and Genevieve Fitzgerald Wallace.
He married Robin Reeh on May 26, 1978, in Rock Island, and they were married for 27 years.
Larry worked as a computer technician at Kone Elevator Company. Earlier he had worked as an engineer for the Rock Island Railroad, and was employed by the City of Rock Island.
Larry graduated from AIC as a Microsoft certified technician. Larry was an avid golfer and coached Rock Island-Milan little league baseball for many years and then became active in umpiring. One of Larry’s greatest loves was coaching the Rock Island “Little Rocks” football teams.
Mr. Wallace served his country for two years with the United States Army during the Vietnam era.
Survivors include his wife, Robin; sons, Christopher Lawrence Wallace and Casey Lawrence Wallace, both of Rock Island; his parents, Lester and Genevieve Wallace, Davenport, Iowa; a brother and wife, Joe and Claudia Wallace, Bettendorf, Iowa; sisters and their spouses, Brenda and Chris Wallace-Gingry, Rock Island, Ill., and Lisa and Tracy VanDamme, Davenport, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Amato; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Scott and Lynn Reeh, Coal Valley, Ill., and Mike and Margaret Reeh, Rock Island, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Penny.
Larry was preceded in death by his brother Ron “Lumpy” Wallace.
Hervil D. Clayton, 59

Hervil Dean “D” Clayton passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005, in Theodosia, at the age of 59.
Hervil was born March 27, 1945, in Ozark County to Hillis Clayton and Beaulah (Mahan) Clayton.
A graduate of Gainesville High School, Hervil and Arlene Edna Silvey were later married that year on Oct. 31 in Theodosia. He worked as a supervisor for Hodgson Mill for several years, and then was employed by Empire Gas Company. Also, he and his family ran a beef cattle farm.
He had accepted and devoted his life to Christ. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, Cally and Kyle.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Clayton, of the home, Theodosia; one son, Darrin Dean Clayton and wife, Lois, of Theodosia; grandchildren, Cally Clayton and Kyle Clayton, both of Theodosia; a brother, Harlin Clayton and wife, Donna, Theodosia; a half brother, Ronnie Clayton, Mtn. Grove; half sisters, Kathy Goodman and Connie Stephenson, both of Mtn. Grove; and his mother, Beaulah (Mahan) Clayton Mashburn, of Theodosia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hillis Clayton, and a son, Dennie Ray Clayton.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, at 2 p.m., at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, with Jim Hillhouse and Justin Hillhouse officiating.
Burial followed at Graham Cemetery at Longrun.
Lelah Mae Todd, 91

Lelah Mae Combs Todd, daughter of R.H. “Bob” and Ettie Pierce Combs, was born Dec. 20, 1913, at Texanna, Okla., and entered into perfect peace on March 24, 2005, at the age of 91.
Lelah was a lifelong resident of the Union Flat Community where she and her husband, Russell, owned and operated a farm for 30 years before purchasing the County General Store from her mother. She taught school at Union Hill for two years and two years at Union Flat in a one-room school with grades one through 8. Lelah was a Sunday School teacher for most of 40 years.
On Oct. 1, 1927, Lelah accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined the Union Flat Church where she was a faithful member and was a devoted deacon’s wife.
On Nov. 11, 1932, Lelah and Russell Todd were united in marriage at Forsyth, and to this union, four children were born.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Herd, Ava, Martha Sue and husband, Wondy Cornett, of Houston, Texas, and Charlotte Roberts, Branson; her daughter-in-law, Susan Todd, of Bradleyville; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fern Hodges, Kansas City area, and Betty Maggard, of Bradleyville; one brother, Bobby Combs, of Bradleyville; and a host of relatives and friends.
Lelah was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, on June 7, 1987; her son, Darrell Todd, on Jan. 21, 2005; one son-in-law, Billy Herd; one granddaughter, Kimberly Bird; and one step-grandson, Justin Wyman; one sister, Vina Johnson, and two brothers, Thurman and Eudell.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the White River Association Building, Taneyville, with the Revs. R.E. Helsley, Bill Austin, Jack Clemans and Jeff Marsh officiating. Interment was in Patterson Cemetery, Bradleyville, under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home, Branson.
