Timmy James Dougherty, son of Johnny Joe and Bernice Louise Lister Dougherty, was born six minutes after his twin brother, Jimmy Joe, in Ava, on Jan. 12, 1958.
He joined his mother and loved ones on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, in Oklahoma City, Okla., at the age of 49. Tim suffered from a long terminal disease call scleroderma.
Tim married Kristin LaVonne Cole on June 6, 1981, at the home of her parents, Lyle Don and Darylann Cole.
They made their home in Gainesville for over 26 years until their recent relocation to Duncan, Okla., to be close to their bright spot in their lives, their granddaughters.
Tim graduated from Gainesville High School in 1975, 8th in his class. All of his adult life has been spent self-employed either cutting cedar logs, making pallets or other odd jobs.
Tim was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 31, 1984 where he has served in several teaching positions, Cub Scout master and as a home teacher.
Tim's rare advanced terminal scleroderma will be researched and studied by doctors for the research and educational purposes to some day prevent unsuspecting victims from going through this horrible disease as Tim has had for over 16 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Kristin LaVonne, and their four children, Seth Peirre (Loretta) of Duncan, Okla., Sarah Jane, of Greenleaf, Idaho, Whitney Dawn, of Rexburg, Idaho, and Timmy Chad, of Duncan, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Malinda Lynn and Shaelyn Lavonne; his father, Johnny Joe, of Tecumseh; brothers, Jimmy Joe (Darlene), and Harold Lynn (Sharon) both of Mtn. Home, Ark.; a sister Lora Louise, of Tecumseh; nine nieces and three nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 22, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ava.
Burial followed at Lilly Ridge Cemetery in Gainesville, under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Freddie Lee Barlett, 73

Retired Staff Sergeant Freddie Lee Barlett, son of Wilburn Oscar Barlett and Nancy Meg Nola Newberry, was born Nov. 28, 1933 near Girdner, in Douglas County.
He departed this life Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, in his home, in Macomb, at the age of 73 years, 10 months, and 19 days.
On Sept. 10, 1954 he was united in marriage to Joyce Elaine Cline, and to this union, five children were born.
Freddie spent 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired in 1974. He loved working in the timber and after retiring he built cedar jewelry chests.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Dalton, David, Billy, Luther, Pat, and Bob Barlett; and two sisters, Anna Carr, and Dottie Paschal.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joyce, of the home; two sons, Rick Barlett, of Ava, and Randy Barlett, of Macomb; three daughters, Cindy Morrow, of Houston, Janie Garrison, of Hollister, and Tammara Rawlings, of Macomb; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lorene Hicks, of Norwood, Pauline Turley, of Mansfield, and Zola McInis, of the state of South Carolina; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Mansfield Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Hicks officiating.
Interment was under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Mansfield.
Elzada Souder, 80

Elzada Norene Souder, daughter of Lawson Clayborn Curtis and Theda (Arnett) Curtis, was born July 27, 1927, in Douglas County, and departed this life Oct. 22, 2007, at the age of 80 years 2 months and 25 days.
Elzada was a resident of Souder, Missouri for most of her life and was a resident of Ava, for the past two years, living in Redbud Village.
On Jan. 7, 1945, Elzada and Almond Alton Souder were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, Ark. Elzada and Almond were blessed with four children.
Elzada was employed as a housekeeper for Rockbridge Rainbow Trout Ranch for 25 years. She loved taking walks with her grandchildren. Elzada also enjoyed gardening, painting, cooking and her cats. Elzada was a member of Souder Church of Christ.
Elzada was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters, her husband, Almond in l984, and a grandson, Jeremy Todd.
She is survived by four sons and spouses, Gerald Souder and Linda, Felton, Ga., Earl Souder and Sylvia, Wasola, Charles "Todd" Souder and Connie, Souder, and Dennis Souder and Deniece, Ava; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Harp, Bolivar, MO, Jean Bell, Mtn. Grove, Mo, two brothers, Russell Curtis and E.J. Curtis, both of Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 25) in the Souder Church of Christ with E.J. Hampton officiating.
Interment will follow in the Souder Cemetery.
Visitation was held Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Rita Hicks, 54

Rita Pauline Hicks, daughter of Cecil Roscoe Duren and Luceil Belle (James) Duren, was born on Oct. 26, 1952, in Gainesville, and passed away to her heavenly home on Oct. 12, 2007, in Macomb, with her family by her side.
Rita was a resident of Brushyknob community for many years.
On Nov. 26, 1970, Rita and Larry Leon Hicks were united in marriage in Ava, and to this union, four children were born.
Rita owned and operated with her husband, the Hicks Custom Processing Co.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Barren Fork and later attended the Mtn. Grove Church of Christ.
Rita enjoyed sewing, crafting, gardening and building things. She loved and adored her family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Roscoe Duren.
She is survived by her husband, Larry, of the home in Macomb; four children and their spouses, Joseph and Marie Hicks, Mtn. Grove, Bethany and Kirk Hall, Bentonville, Ark., Hanna and Timothy Pippin, Columbia, and Jeremiah and Bridget Hicks, Macomb; her mother, Luceil Belle Duren, Mansfield; eight grandchildren, Tommy Joe, Josh, Cody, Aaron, Luke, Colette, Levi and Wyatt; one brother, Donnie Duren, Kansas City, Kan.; her in-laws, Edgar and Minnie Hicks, Ava; two uncles, Vernon and Hubert James; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Oak Forest Cemetery, Norwood, with Harlin Howerton officiating.

John Vernon Frye, 77

John Vernon Frye passed away on Monday evening, Oct. 15, 2007. He was at home, surrounded by his family, when he quietly left.
He was 77 years old, born May 21, 1930, the son of John Burl and Hazel Esther (Robertson) Frye.
Born in Squires, Missouri, and with intermittent moves to Kansas and California, John grew up in Ava, graduating from Ava High School in 1949.
After marrying his high school sweetheart, Dana, in August of 1949, John worked for Kraft Foods.
Following his dream, he became a Missouri Conservation Agent in 1955. First in Barton County, John rose through the ranks as district supervisor, regional supervisor and finally assistant chief of the Protection Section out of the state office in Jefferson City. His 37 years with the Missouri Department of Conservation were the source of many entertaining stories and he took great pride in his achievements and those of his colleagues.
While raising his family in Cassville, John was initiated into the Pythagoras Lodge No. 383 as a Mason. He later became the youngest grand master to serve this lodge. He attended the Missouri Grand Lodge Meeting in 1962 with Harry S Truman.
John was also ordained as a deacon in the Centertown Baptist Church and his education included a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
John Frye was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Georgia Frye Porter; his son, John Keith Frye; and his grandson, Joshua Seth Harris.
John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dana Garrison Frye; his sons, Norman Timothy Frye (Lou Ann Frye), Matthew Burl Frye (Kelly Frye); his daughter, Dana Katherine Martin; one sister, Emogene Price, Ava; his granddaughter Amanda Frye Vauble (Doug Vauble); and other grandchildren, Nathaniel David Harris, Dana Harris Schultz (Scott Schultz), Bethany Frye Byrd (Stephen Byrd), Miranda Joelle Martin, and Quincy Matthew Frye; and three great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Makenzie Vauble, Cameron Joshua Byrd, and Brayden Douglas Vauble.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Pastors E. Frank Whitney, Oren Alcorn and Scott Spurling officiating.
Interment will follow in the Ava Cemetery with honors by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The family requests memorials to Gideons International or Lebanon Baptist Church in McGirk, Mo., in care of the funeral home.
Velva (Hunt) Ellison, 89

Velva Izora (Hunt) Ellison, 89, died Nov. 4, 2007, following an extended illness, at the Ashley Health Center in Rogers, Ark.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1918, near Ava, (Little Beaver area near Arno), in Douglas County, to David Willey Hunt Sr. and Dulcie Ann Huffman Hunt.
Velva was a 1939 graduate of Rogers, Ark., High School. She loved life, enjoyed crocheting, music and was a gifted guitarist and vocalist, often performing on radio before television and more often performing at local square dance gatherings in and around Ava.
Velva was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Ellison, a life-long employee of John Deere Company in Waterloo, Iowa, and a Veteran of World War II; two sisters, Wilma Hunt Wagner and Fairy Lee Hunt Davis, and two brothers, David Willey Hunt Jr. and Robert Jacob Huffman Hunt.
She is survived by her brothers, Russell and wife, Ann Hunt, of Ava, and Ralph Allison Hunt, of Harlingen, Texas; one sister, Wanda Lou Hunt Bautts and husband, Dr. B. J. Bautts, of Rogers, Ark.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Ava Cemetery with the Rev. Marty Blakey, local Methodist minister, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials donations can be made to a favorite charity or to your local church.
Services were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Bobby Joe Miller, 77

Bobby Joe Miller, the son of Hermie Miller and Angie (Workman) Miller, was born July 22, 1930, in Silverton, Mo., and departed this life Nov. 6, 2007, in Springfield, at the age of 77 years 3 months and 14 days.
Joe was a life-long resident of the Ava area. He owned and operated his own barbershop for 40 years.
In 1949, Joe and Patty Wood were united in marriage and to this union, three sons were born.
Joe was a member of the Baptist faith and also a 50-year 32nd-degree member of the Robert Burns Masonic Lodge #496 in Rockbridge. He was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rockbridge Chapter.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Retha and Wanda.
He is survived by his sons and their spouses, David and Sally Miller, Ava, Bob and Jeanie Miller, Bella Vista, Ark., and Jon Miller, Ava; seven grandchildren, Bobbie Jean, Justin, Elisha, Chelsea, Lynsey, Paige and Jesse; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Miller, Ava; a special friend, Martha Luce; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating.
A Masonic service will also be held.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Wasola.
The family requests memorials to the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Wesley Brian Willis, 49

Wesley Brian Willis, the son of Leonard Willis and Julia (Grigsby) Willis, was born Feb. 26, 1958 in Phoenix, Ariz., and departed this life Oct. 25, 2007, at the age of 49 years 7 months and 29 days.
Wesley was a resident of Ava, since l986, moving here from Phoenix, Ariz.
On March 24, 1990, Wesley and Jessie Hayes were united in marriage in Ava. Wesley and Jessie are blessed with two sons.
Wesley was employed with Heart of the Ozarks Health Care in Ava for 18 years. He was a Med Tech., C.N.A., and R.N.A.
Wesley enjoyed reading and playing string instruments. He loved spending time with his family, music, and computer. Wesley was of the Pentecost Faith.
Wesley is survived by his wife, Jessie; two sons, Julian Willis and Dylan Willis, Ava; his father, Leonard Willis, Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Christi Lee, of Arizona; one half sister, Ellen Scarberry, of Ohio; his in-laws, Tom and Mary Hayes, Ava; sister-in-law Janie Swisher, Barbara and Bob Smith, Geraldine and B.Y. Huskey, and Judy and Roger Huskey; one brother-in-law, Bud and Sherry Hayes; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
