Richard Lee Elliott, son of Eugene O. Elliott and Letha Mae (Metcalf) Elliott, was born May 9, 1958, in Brushyknob, Mo., and entered his heavenly Father's Kingdom Nov. 26, 2007 at the age of 49 years, 6 months and 17 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Letha and Eugene Elliott, and one sister, Mary Joann Woodard. He was a loving brother and uncle.
He is survived by four brothers, Don Elliott of Mansfield, Kenneth Elliott of Norwood, Roy Elliott of Poplar Bluff, and Dwight Elliott of Oakwood, Ga.; two sisters, Virginia Bell of Mtn. Grove, and Juanita Harwell of Poplar Bluff; as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Evansdale Church east of Ava with Pastor Donald Potter officiating.
Interment will follow in the Evansdale Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are under direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home of Ava.
Alta Ellen Duckworth, 91

Alta Ellen Duckworth, daughter of Bake Henry and Amanda Ellen Jones Wheeler, was born April 24, 1916, in Toledo, Mo.
She departed this life Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, in her home in Seymour, at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 23 days.
On Sept. 2, 1933, Alta was united in marriage to Lawrence Joy Duckworth and to this union nine children were born.
Alta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence, on Dec. 26, 2005; a granddaughter, Deanna Duckworth; two sisters, Vesta Evans and Rita Stewart; as well as two sons-in-law, Jerry Julian and Ralph Rambo.
Alta is survived by her children, Anita DeArmond and her husband, Frank, Moletus Myers and her husband, Kenneth, Patsy Julian, Peggy Boring and her husband, Wilbur, JoAnn Rambo and her friend, Bill Crandall, Larry Duckworth and his wife, Wanda, and Joy Duckworth and his wife, Michelle, all of Seymour, Lawrence Duckworth Jr. and his wife, Rosalie, of Ozark, and Jalane Childress and her husband, Eddie, of Warsaw; 31 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Frances Cox and her husband, Dick, of Springfield, and Betty Young, of Nixa; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Alta spent her childhood years in the Pond Fork area and in 1950 she and Lawrence moved to Seymour to make their home. While living in Seymour, she worked on the family farm where she milked and helped to raise cattle. She also spent time working at the Brown Shoe Factory and at H.D. Lee. She retired from Head Orchards after working there for several years.
Alta was a good friend to every one and was known for being a very sweet lady. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, watching her chickens, squirrels and hummingbirds and tending to her flowers. She loved taking care of her grandchildren as well as cooking and had quite a large collection of recipes.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, in Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Seymour with Dwight Ipock, David Duckworth and the Rev. John Claxton officiating.
Burial was in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
Mabel E. Gettys, 86

Mabel E. Gettys, 86, of Ava, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center, Ava.
Ms. Gettys was born on Jan. 13, 1921, to Irvin and Agnes (Schott) Gettys in Ava.
She had lived in the Kansas City area before moving back to Ava several years ago.
She was a hard worker and had an outstanding work ethic. She was a loving and caring person who enjoyed visits with her family members and crocheting.
Mabel is survived by a brother, Guy Gettys, of Springfield; and a sister, Grace Hardy, of Independence; and by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence, with a graveside service immediately following in Mound Grove Cemetery.
Sue Valentine, 66

Darlene Sue Valentine, daughter of Earl Everett Potter and Opal Roxie Davidson Potter, was born on Sept. 2, 1941, in McClurg, and passed away at her home with her family by her side on Dec. 9, 2007, at Ava.
Sue was a resident of Missouri most of her life. She was a personal health care giver.
On Oct. 10, 1959, Sue and Jim Valentine were united in marriage and to this union, four children were born.
They had been married for 44 years. Sue enjoyed traveling and had also lived in Texas. She loved spending time with her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Claude and Bill Potter; and infant twin sons, Claude Grant and Billy Cole.
Her survivors include one daughter and husband, Jayma and Jeff Potter, Ava; one son and wife, Monty and Kathy Valentine, Squires; five grandchildren, Brandon, Rocky, Faron, Kelly and Ethan; two step-grandchildren, Blake and Marrissa; one sister, Earlean Evans, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial service for Sue will be Friday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m., in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Pastor Lewis Stern officiating and eulogy by good friend, Alice Nelson.
The family requests memorials to American Lung Association or Bethel Cemetery.
Robert L. Livingston, 79

After a brief but valiant battle, Robert L. Livingston, CMSGT, USAF, stepped forward to receive his highest honor. With grace and dignity he accepted the Lord's bidding on Dec. 8, 2007 at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Rapid City, S.D.
Bob was born the son of Fred and Elva Souder Livingston, Dec. 28, 1927, in Ava.
He graduated from Ava High School, later joining the United States Air Force. After retirement he taught ROTC in Rapid City.
He is survived by his wife, Grace, and daughter, Terry Lea, both of Rapid City; one son, Robert Jr., of Jacksonville, N.C.; one sister, Reba Hutchison, Ava; one brother, Fred S. Livingston, Rogersville; three grandsons; and several nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Melba Bogert and Freda Manis.
Services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City, S.D.
Interment followed at the Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors by the Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Freida Faye Harper, 72

Freida Faye Harper, daughter of Claude Yeisley and Neva Dewhirst Yeisley was born on August 25, 1935 in Ava, MO and passed away on December 8, 2007 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, MO, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 13 days.
Faye was a lifelong resident of the Ava community. She was a homemaker and also had worked at Rawlings Sporting Goods and Spaldings as Production Operator.
On July 16, 1952 Faye and Wilburn Web Harper were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, AR and to this union one daughter was born.
Faye was a member of the Goodhope Nazarene Church.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Web in 2001.
Her survivors include a daughter and her husband, Bobbi & Dennis Cunningham, Sparta, MO, two special grandsons, David Welsh, Ava, MO and Daniel Cunningham, Sparta, MO, six great grandchildren, Kayla, Breanna, Kiara, Jazmine, Nathan and Chyenne, one nephew, Ted, two nieces, Karen and Diane, one brother, John Yeisley, Ava, MO, one sister, Naomi Short, Rupert, Idaho and a host of other relatives and friends.
Service for Faye is Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with the Rev. Kevin Pittman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Arden Cemetery west of Ava.
A dinner will be held at the First General Baptist Church after the service.

Barbara Ann Gates, 79

Barbara Ann (Ladd) Gates, 79, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
She was born on July 20, 1928 in North Syracuse, N.Y., the daughter of Alan Douglas Ladd and Edith Emma (Eby) Ladd.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Franklin Gates; one granddaughter, Deanna Owens; and one grandson, Matthew Cook.
She is survived by one sister and three brothers, Shirley Crampton, of Tallahassee, Fla., Doug Ladd, Yuma, Ariz., Jack Ladd, Clermont, Fla., and Merle Ladd, Tallahassee, Fla. She is also survived by her six daughters and two sons, Cheryl (Gates) Bohannan, Crocker, Terry Gates, Hartville, Carol (Gates) Owens, Mansfield, Marcia (Gates) Dunn, Lebanon, Janis (Gates) Goodman, Sparta, Patricia (Gates) Redden, Springfield, Nancy (Gates) Crawford, Springfield, and John Gates, Lebanon; 28 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Springfield, at 1 p.m. on Dec. 10.
Henry J. Dougherty, 59

Henry "Skip" J. Dougherty the son of Henry S. Dougherty Sr. and Marjore Fields Dougherty was born Jan. 6, 1948 in St. Louis, and departed this life Dec. 21, 2007 at the age of 59 years 11 months and 15 days.
Henry was a resident of Greenfield, Mo., for the past six months, moving there from Theodosia. Henry was employed as a truck driver.
On July 16, 1983 Henry and Deloris Mace were united in marriage in Granite City, Ill.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronnie Dougherty.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris, of Greenfield; his children, John R. Dougherty, West Plains, Danniel J. Dougherty, Chicago, Ill., and Dahna Dougherty, Springfield; one stepdaughter, Letha Stamper, Theodosia; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald J. Dougherty, Ellis Grove, Ill.; and two half sisters, Ronda and Reanee.
Cremation services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
A Memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 6, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ava Community Center.
