Roosevelt Edwards

Roosevelt Edwards, 93, of Hayti, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.

Born Jan. 13, 1909, in Clarksdale, Miss., son of the late Henry and Lula Jones Edwards, he was a farmer, janitor and a member of the North Sixth Street Church of God in Christ, where he served as a deacon.

He married Mary Lue Brown, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include eight children, Lee Eather Avant and Lue Girt Grayse, both of Detroit, Mich., Levella Smith and Callie Boutte, both of Chicago, Ill., Robert Edwards, of St. Louis, Mo., Raymond Edwards and wife, Patricia, of Hayti and Shirley Reedus and Earl Edwards, both of Kansas City, Mo. and 26 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four children and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at the North Sixth Street Church of God in Christ with Elder Nathaniel Ellis officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey, Daryl and Gary Edwards and Quentin, Lonnie and Garnell Smith.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.

Flossie Greene

Flossie Mae Greene, 90, of Rector, Ark., died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Paragould, Ark.

Born Aug. 22, 1912, at Leonard, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Theoffie and Sally Guthrie.

She married Fred Greene, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Nell; five brothers, Silas, Denzil, Robert, Calvin and Luther Guthrie and four sisters, Rachel Fisk, Littie Goldsmith, Imogene Murray and Panzy Shroud.

Survivors include one son, Joel Dewayne Greene, of Apachee Junction, Ariz.; two daughters, Millie Sue Compton, of Utica, Mich,. and Gloria Faye Hicks, of Flat Rock, Ala.; two brothers, James Guthrie, of Paragould and Eugene Guthrie, of Kennett; four sisters, Rena Eagle, of Coran, Calif., Erma Shelton, of Paragould, Betty Cordell, of Kennett and Mary Curtis, of Rector, Ark.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at the First General Baptist Church in Rector with Kenny Burns and James Henry Dorch officiating.

Burial was in the Mary's Chapel cemetery at Rector.

Pallbearers were Keith Curtis, Randell Graves, Darrell, Billy and Kevin Shelton, Lonnie Cordell and Dennis and Fred Hicks.

Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector was in charge of arrangements.

Joe McGrew

Joe McGrew, 76, of Senath, Mo., died Saturday, Dec., 28, 2002, at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark.

Born July 6, 1926, in Senath, son of the late Bill and Flora Newman McGrew, he was U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Senath American Legion.

On March 21, 1951, in Reno, Nev., he married Mollie Serna, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two daughters, Venessa Simmons, of Kennett and Linda Brown, of Brownsville, Ore.; two brothers, Dennis McGrew, of Houston, Texas and Eddie McGrew, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one sister, Maxine Battles, of Senath; eight grandchildren, Arin McGrew, Carrie Blue, Greg Tucker, Venessa Defioe and Sheena, David, Manuel and Dan Dimas and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Manuel and Danny Dimus and David McGrew.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath, with the Rev. Brent Pierce officiating.

Pallbearers were Tim Dinkins, Ricky Batchlor, Mason Hufford, Bob Bailey, Gary Curtright and Junior Jaco.

Senath American Legion served as honorary pallbearers.

Lois Mitchell

Lois Imogene Mitchell, 77, of Sheridan, Ark., died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at the Sheridan Nursing Home.

Born April 19, 1925, in Dexter, Mo., daughter of the late Elvis Reynolds and Gladys Irby Mitchell, she was a homemaker and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Sheridan.

On Nov. 1, 1941, in Clarkton, Mo., she married Melvin Eugene Mitchell, who preceded her in death on July 21, 1984. She was also preceded in death by one brother, E.J. Reynolds and one sister, Janis Fowler.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Leon Mitchell, of Marlow, Okla. and Joseph Wayne Mitchell, of Sheridan; one daughter, Connie Elaine Mitchell Stubbs, of Sheridan; one brother, Houston Reynolds, of Elgin, Ill.; four sisters, Helen McBride and Faye Bunch, both of Dexter, Sue Dock, of Malden, Mo. and Yvonne Chance, of Overland Park, Kan.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel in Bernie with the Rev. Walt Hollis officiating.

Burial was in the Bernie cemetery.

Violet Pflueger

Violet Pearl "Billie" Pflueger, 63, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Sunday, Dec. 24, 1939, in Catron, Mo., a daughter of the late Velmer and Marybell Taylor Folkes, she was a factory worker and of the Baptist faith.

On Dec. 22, 1956, in Kennett, she married Ernest R. Pflueger.

Survivors include a daughter, Pennie Pflueger of Cape Girardeau; five sisters, Ruby Hollowe, Pamela Graves and Jan Counts, all of Kennett, Jean Matheney of Senath and Faye Garcia of Arnold, Mo.; three brothers, Chester Folkes and Carl Folkes, both of Kennett, and Don Folkes of Rector, Ark.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Folkes and a sister, Jewell Robertson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Revs. Dale Rickman and Doug Clinton officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.

Cleo Trout

Ida Cleo Trout, 84, of Smyrna, Tenn., formerly of Kennett, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Born March 27, 1918, in New Bloomfield, Mo., daughter of the late Lawrence Vernon and Anna Buel McDonald, she was a manager at Sears.

In May 1945, she married Leo J. Trout, who preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1994.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Anne Faulkner and husband, Brooks R., of Smyrna; two grandchildren, Robin Russelle Zaleski and Scott Anthony Faulkner, both of Smyrna; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Zach Zaleski and one nephew and niece, Larry Lee and Brenda McDonald, of Georgetown, Ohio.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett with the Rev. Don Slatton officiating.

Pallbearers were Bob Sturgeon, Tommy Striegel, Maurice Wallace, Jim Akers, Carol Moore and C.M. Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Tom Crunk, Kenneth Ford and W. D. Brown.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.

Lee Winkler

Lee R. Winkler, 71, of Kennett, died Satruday, Dec. 28, 2002, at the VA Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Dec. 16, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., son of the late Rev. Roy Winkler and Ersa Kennison, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

On July 18, 1954, in Kennett, he married Clara Jean Carter, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one daughter, Lee Hunt and husband, Bud, of Kennett; one brother, Norman Winkler, of Kennett; one sister, Shirley Byrd, of Tarpon Springs, Fla. and two grandchildren, Adam Nichols and Haylee Hunt.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Southerland.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Gary Mayes officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Bart, Tyler, David and Carter Carter, Glen Winkler and Frank Carter, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Dolph Pritchett, Bud Neal, Leon McAnally, Roger Montgomery, Elmo Hollis, Jesse Hovis, James Wright and co-workers of Roadway Express.

G.W. Clay

Funeral services for G.W. 'Cotton' Clay, 63, of Braggadocio, Mo., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at the Braggadocio Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Ault officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at the John W. German Funeral Home in Hayti, Mo.

Gladys Nelson

Gladys Irene Nelson, 72, of Knob Ark., died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Rector Health Care in Rector, Ark.

Born Oct. 10, 1930, in Boydsville, Ark., she was daughter of the late William and Stella Layne.

She married Logan Nelson, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Emma Nelson and one brother, Everett Layne.

Survivors include one son, Terry Turner, of Paragould, Ark.; six daughters, Freda Trog, of Missouri, Wilma Williamson and Brenda Batten, both of Rector, Reta Nelson, of Rodchester, Minn., Sherry Nelson, of Kennett and Donna Lowe, of Paragould; one brother, Clyde Layne, of Searcy, Ark.; two sisters, Luceille Palmer and Lorene Cox, of Colorado City, Texas; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 1, at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Ernie Rinks officiating. Burial will follow at the Purcell cemetery in Rector.

Margaret Quinn

Margaret Naoimi Quinn, 76, of Hayti, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Hayti.

Born Feb. 14, 1926, in Hayti, Mo., daughter of the late Curtis and Gertrude Autry Jackson, she was a beautician, a licensed realtor, a member of the Dry Bayou Baptist church and attended the Church of Jesus Christ.

In 1947, in St. Joseph, Mich., she married Warren Daniel, who preceded her in death in March of 1992. She later married Elzie Quinn in Kennett in February of 1993, who survives of the home.

Survivors include one son, Gene M. Williams, of Florida; one daughter, Peggy Bender, of Campbell, Mo.; five granddaughters, Nichole and Cynthia Williams, Tereasa Lester, Deborah Hampton and Nechell Smith; six step-children, Joan Gaines, Elzie J. Quinn, Jr. and Paul, Bill, Rodney and Bobby Quinn; one sister, Marvella Leto, of St. Joseph and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two children, Linda and Ronnie Daniel. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Dry Bayou Baptist Church in Hayti with the Rev. Bobby Quinn officiating.

Burial was in the Dry Bayou cemetery.

Pallbearers were Larry and J.R. Cronan, Michael Grissom, Donald Hampton, Brian Quinn and Jerry Wallace.
