David Dare
David Bryon Dare, 71, of Hayti, Mo., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at his residence.
Born June 28, 1931, in Nogo, Ark., son of the late Roy Bryon and Mauden Eveyln Pendleton Dare, he was an aircraft mechanic and a member of the Dry Bayou Baptist Church in Hayti.
On March 8, 1964, in Georgia, he married
Mary Rock, who preceded him in death on March 15, 1977.
Survivors include one daughter, Melody Dare, of West Fork, Ark.; two sons, Raymond Rousell, of Hayti and George Eichmann, of Dexter, Mo.; three sisters, Isabelle Plunk, of Hayti, Betty Cronan, of Portageville, Mo. and Manervia Gribble, of Wardell, Mo.; three brothers, John Thomas Dare, of Russellville, Ark., William E. Bell, of Caruthersville, Mo. and George E. Bell, of Orange, Texas and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 8, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Hayti.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Dry Bayou Baptist Church in Hayti with the Rev. Stan Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at the Dry Bayou cemetery in Hayti.
Ethel Birmingham
Ethel Mae Birmingham, 71, of Holcomb, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born Feb. 25, 1931, in Memphis, Tenn., daughter of the late Albert and Arlie Ragan Atchley, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She maried Dale Birmingham, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sisters, Fannie Cates, of Texas City, Texas, Dixie Phillips, of Coarsegold, Calif. and Mary Reeves and Kay Snipes, both of Holcomb and two brothers, Frank Atchley, of Rochelle, Ill. and Joseph Atchley, of Texas City.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Fox officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Forrest cemetery in Black Rock, Ark.
Billy Boyle
Billy Gene Boyle, 71, of Bernie, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Mo.
Born Dec. 3, 1930, in Old Hickory, Ark., son of the late Luther Eli and Rosa Mae Hawkins Boyle, he was a farmer, a member and deacon at the Northside Baptist Church in Bernie. He was 32nd Degree Mason.
On Sept. 22, 1947, in Piggott, Ark., he married
Hazel Heigle, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two sons, David Boyle, of Beaumont, Texas and Scott Boyle, of Malden, Mo.; one daughter, Deborah Boyle McMilliam, of Midlothian, Texas; one brother, Roy Boyle, of Bernie; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, I.G., Dick, J.M., Gordon and L.E. Boyle and one sister, Ruth Boyle Shelton.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel in Bernie with the Revs.. O.H. Brooks and Tim Ingles officiating.
Burial was in the Bernie cemetery.
Ezra Gaultney, Jr.
Ezra Floyd Gaultney, Jr., 78, of Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Kennett, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002.
Born Aug. 4, 1924, in Campbell, Mo., son of the late Ezra F. Gaultney Sr. and Roxie Dees Gaultney, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII and Korea and a teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Pirkko Hill Gaultney, of the home; two sons, Victor Gaultney and wife, Sara, of Dallas, Texas, Michael Gaultney, of W. Va. and Richard Edgerly and wife, Laura, of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Carol Anne Stone and husband, James, of Wilson, Ark.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at noon Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Washburn-McReavy Swanson Chapel in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Washburn-McReavy Swanson Chapel.
Burial will follow at the Crystal Bay cemetery in Finland, Minn.
Vera Goodrich
Vera Goodrich, 82, of Kennett, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
Lee Jernigan
Lee E. Jernigan, 67, of Oviedo, Fla., died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002.
He was a retired colonel and a lifetime member of DVA, VFW, TROA and NAUS.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca James Jernigan, of Ovieda; two sons, Stoven L. Jernigan, of Virginia Beach, Va. and Jeffrey K. Jernigan, of Ovieda; two sisters, Billy Plunk, of Memphis, Tenn. and Kathryn Pace, of Moscow, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Gladys James, of Hayti, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hartsell, of Kennett and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel.
Burial will follow in the West Tennessee Veterans cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or to the hospice of the donor's choice.
Oran Miles
Oran L. Miles, 72, of Campbell, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 10, at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
Born Jan. 31, 1930, in Holcomb, Mo., son of the late Charles David and Ida Mary Adams Miles, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict and a farmer. He was a member of the American Legion of Malden, Mo. and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
On Feb., 22, 1955, he married
Earlene Brandon, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two daughters, Neva Hector and husband, Randy, of Malden and Cheryl Luther and husband, Donald, of Holcomb; three grandchildren, Candice and Lindsay Hector, both of Malden and Jonathan Carnell, of Holcomb and one sister, Geneva Miles, of Campbell.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Miles.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ruth Edwards officiating.
Burial will follow at the Woodlawn cemetery in Campbell.
Thelbert Odum
Thelbert Odum, 79, of Dexter, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston, Mo.
Born Nov. 11, 1922, in Hornersville, Mo., son of the late Joseph C. and Beulah Leah McCain Odum, he was a road grader operator with the Essex Special Road District and a member of the Church of Christ in Essex, Mo.
He married
Thelma Marie Johnson, who preceded him in death in 1974. On March 10, 1975, in Dexter, he married
Oleta Allgood, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three daughters, Shirley Slaten and JoAnn James, both of Sikeston and Jeanette Boneé, of Blytheville, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Michael Cobb, of Bloomfield, Mo., Scott Cobb, of Kalispell, Mont., Todd Slaten, Billy James and Amy King, all of Sikeston and Dana and Cortney Odum, both of Essex; four great-grandchildren, Cameron King and Bayleah and Jordan James, all of Sikeston and Jerry Craft, of Essex and one brother, Odell Odum, of Sikeston.
He was preceded in death by one brother, J.R. Odum.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Herman Morse and Mitchell Jackson officiating.
Burial was in the Essex cemetery.
Ruby Sims
Ruby Lee Sims, 99, of Steele, Mo., died Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at River Oaks Care Center in Steele.
Born Saturday, August 22, 1903, in Vaden, Miss., daughter of the late Willie Morgan, she was a homemaker and attended the United Baptist Church in Gobler, Mo.
In 1921 she married
Tillman Sims who preceded her in death in January 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Lillie Fox of Chicago, Ill. and granddaughter, Selina Sims of Arlington, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the United Baptist Church in Gobler with the Rev. J.B. Johnson officiating.
Burial was in the United Baptist cemetery at Gobler.
Bradshaw Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.
Arlie Alexander
Arlie Alexander, 75, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
Born March 4, 1927, in Scotts Hill, Tenn., son of the late Perry and Rieta Sparks Alexander, he was a member of the Bakerville Church of Christ.
On Dec. 19, 1975, he married
Ella Dearing, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Charles Alexander, of Hayti, Mo.; two daughters, Rita Pickard and Melanie Privett, both of Kennett; five grandchildren, Tonia Vandewaal, of Caruthersville, Mo., Brittany Barton, of Las Vegas, Nev. and Brandy and Danny Nixon and Alex Privett, all of Kennett; four great-grandchildren, Steven Doherty and Ryan Nixon, both of Kennett, Jordan Rankin, of Las Vegas and Erika Vandewaal, of Caruthersville; two brothers, Stancie Alexander, of Saltillo, Tenn. and Jimmy Alexander, of Caruthersville and five sisters, Jean Brewer, of Marion, Ind., Dot Thompson, of Saltillo, Sue Kimbrell and Linda Phelps, both of Caruthersville and Helen Kennedy, of Memphis.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Bruce; one brother, Ray Alexander and two sisters, Velma Mae Alexander and Muriel Grooms.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 14, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with James Powell and Jeff Wade officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Paul Cobb, Richie Leeker, Jimmy Ingram, Jimmy Strother, Ray McClendon and Russell Dunn.
Honorary pallbearers were the men of Bakerville Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made to the Paragould Children's Home and the American Heart Association.
James Allison
James Leonard Allison, 83, of Piggott, Ark., died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Piggott Community Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the McGrew cemetery in Senath, Mo. with the Rev. Wesley Payne officiating.
