Carnell Sowell
Carnell Sowell, 84, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.
Born Nov. 9, 1917, in Kennett, he was the son of the late Arthur Edward and Rose Mae Evans Mills.
On March 28, 1936, he married
Pleas Sowell, who preceded him in death Feb. 14, 1994.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Bud Mills.
Survivors include a son, Bob Sowell and his wife, Laurie, of Kennett; three sisters, Julia Maxine Yadon of Ardmore, Oka., Joyce Nutt of Benton, Miss. and Carol Burns of Homa, La. and two granddaughters, Emily Dawn and Amy Elizabeth Sowell of Jonesboro, Ark.
Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 15, in the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with Bishop Les Jackson, assisted by Elder Short Walker, officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Elder Kingston, Elder Strana, Elder Endischee, Elder Saunders, Elder Siaosi and Elder Christiansen.
Rayburn Bell
Rayburn Leon Bell, 68, of Wappapello, Mo., formerly of Gideon, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Three Rivers Healthcare South in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Gideon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Starnes officiating.
Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.
Bonnie Dawson
Bonnie Mitchell Dawson, 78, of Florissant, Mo., formerly of Kennett, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Florissant.
Born April 13, 1923, in Arbyrd, Mo., daughter of the late James A. and Clara Belle Trantham Russell, she was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Kennett.
On June 20, 1948, she married
William Boyd Mitchell, who preceded her in death April 20, 1974. On Oct. 20, 1978, she married
Buel "Shorty" Dawson, who preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1995.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Hawkins and E.J. Russell; one sister, Lillie Mae Manley and one step-son, Robert Dawson.
Survivors include two daughters, Roxie Nieroda of Hazelwood, Mo. and Dixie L. Wallace of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; one step-daughter, Beth Ham, of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and two step-sons, Mike Dawson, of Battle Creek, Mich and Richard Dawson, of Dallas Texas.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Ed Jansson officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Bob Redman, Keith Westerfield, Glen Leach, Tom Kinsey, Bob Lamb and John Tant.
Kit Grindstaff
Kit Carson Grindstaff, 84, of Granite City, Ill., formerly of Steele, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Granite City.
Born Aug. 31, 1917, in Bath Springs, Tenn., son of Benjamin Carter and Alora Florence Singleton Grindstaff, he was an Army Air Corps veteran, he attended the First Assembly of God Church in Granite City, worked at Union Starch and Refining Co. and Southern Illinois University.
On Sept. 8, 1940, he married
Goldie Noami Bomar, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three sons, Jon Grindstaff, of New York, NY, David Grindstaff, of Granite City and Darrell Grindstaff, of Honolulu, Hawaii; one daughter, Judy Carter, of Granite city; three grandsons, Broc Carter, of Collinsville, Ill. and Douglas and Craig Orpillia, both of Honolulu; two granddaughters, Christina Grindstaff and Sascha Rodgers, both of Granite City; one sister, Lydia Beeson, of Baton Rouge, La. and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Irwin Chapel in Granite City.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Irwin Chapel with the Rev. John Pithers officiating.
Burial will folow at the Sunset Hills Memorial Estates in Edwardsville, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church in Granite City.
Paul Gwin, Sr.
Paul H. Gwin, Sr., 92, of Lansdale, Penn., formerly of Kennett, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at the North Penn Hospital in Lansdale.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett with the Rev. Jan Condren officiating.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
James Hamm
James Eilliam Hamm, 78, of Rector, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at National HealthCare in Kennett.
Born Sept. 9, 1923, in Cache, Ark., son of the late William and Minnie Priest Hamm, he was a veteran, serving in WWII, a member of the Blue Cane General Baptist Church and a farmer.
Survivors include one son, Carroll Hamm and wife, Wanda, of Rector; four brothers, Gene Hamm, of Lafe, Ark., Doyle Waugh, of Rector and Dalton and Dewayne Priest, both of Waterford, Mich.; two sisters, Pat Hacker, of Paragould, Ark. and Aline Jolly, of Marmaduke, Ark. and two grandchildren, Amy Garner and Mark Hamm, both of Rector.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Luvene Hamm and one brother, Robert Hamm.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with the Rev. James Henry Dortch officiating.
Burial was in the Woodland Heights cemetery in Rector.
Pallbearers were Danny Dortch, Harvey Faries, Aaron Morris and Allan, Justin and Keith Waugh.

Burnies Kelley, 85, of Malden, Mo., died today, Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at his residence.

Alma Rowland
Alma Joyce Rowland, 49, of Kennett, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born August 21, 1952, in Piggott, Ark. she was a daughter of Norman Galloway of Calico Rock, Ark. and Thelma Settlemire Galloway Bridwell of Imboden, Ark.
Survivors include long time companion Charles Lasswell, a daughter, Lerin Rowland of Kennett; as brother, Gene Galloway of Kennett; three step-brothers, Eugene, Wayne and Glenn Galloway of Calico Rock; two step-sisters, Darlene and Debbie Galloway of Calico Rock.
Memorial services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, in the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett.
Ruby Walker
Ruby Maxine Golden Walker, 86, of Piggott, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born Dec. 26, 1914, in Greenway, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Rhoda Jewell Golden.
On April 18, 1947, she married
Myron Ted Walker, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son Jimmy Walker and wife, Claudette, of Kennett; two grandsons, Ross and Kevin Thomasson; one great-granddaughter, Caitlin; one brother, Cloyce Golden, of Piggott and one sister, Pauline Mitchell, of St. Louis, Mo.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Chris Walker.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott with Wendell Dorman officiating.
Burial was in the Piggott cemetery.
Rayburn Bell
Rayburn Leon Bell, 68, of Wappapello, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Three Rivers Healthcare-South in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born Aug. 5, 1933, in Cave City, Ark., son of the late Maynard Gordon and Burlie Marie Voyles Bell, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea and Vietnam, a member of the Huie Baptist Church in Gideon, Mo., a past member of the Masons and retired from the New Madrid County Sheriff Department.
On Nov. 10, 1956, in Schwetzingen, Germany, he married
Christa Reigler, who preceded him in death on April 20, 1997. He later married
Barbara Johnson on June 12, 2001, in Piggott, Ark., who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three daughters, Dorothea Deaton and husband Charles, of Lake Wells, Fla., Karen Robertson and husband, Byron, of Campbell, Mo. and Cathy Moore, of Gideon; one brother, Lonnie Bell and wife, Sharon, of Campbell; one sister, Barbara Dickinson and husband, Eugene, of Fredrickburg, Va.; two step-sons, Patrick Lee and wife, Tammy and James Lee and wife, Sandy, all of Gideon; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Leon and Robert Bell; one grandson, Richard Bumpus and one brother, Roger Dale Bell.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Gideon.

Emma Bell Byrd, 86, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the First Christian Church in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Gary Mayes officating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
