Altie Emory
Altie Mae Emory, 89, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Pemiscot County, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Town & Country Health Care Center in St. Louis.
Born May 4, 1913, in Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Virginia Bell Chastain.
On Oct. 16, 1943, in Portageville, Mo., she married
Gordon Emory, who preceded her in death on March 17, 1987. She was also preceded in death by one son, William Ray Emory.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis Emory and wife, Kay and Don Emory and wife, Lisa, all of St. Louis; three sisters, Maudie Chastain, Inez Williams and Hattie Gwaltney, all of St. Louis; five grandchildren, Donald, Michael, Jonathan, Jennifer and Gina Emory, all of St. Louis and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. March 4, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti, Mo. with Dr. Mike Melton officiating. Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery at Hayti.
Pallbearers were Arnold, David W., James, Ken and Larry Chastain and Jerry Prater.
Joan Fortner
Joan Godsey Fortner, 80, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Clarkton, Mo., died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at her residence.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, March 6, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Phillips officiating.
Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton.
Captola Lambert
Captola Lambert, 77, of Cardwell, Mo., died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at her residence.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, March 6, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Arbyrd, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at the Forrest Grove Baptist Church in Cardwell with the Rev. Kenneth Hargraves officiating.
Burial will follow at the Cardwell cemetery.
John Malinak, Sr.
John S. Malinak, Sr., 76, of Macomb, Ill., died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at his residence.
Born Sept. 27, 1926, in Gelnica, Czechoslovakia, son of the late Robert and Anna Lelak Malinak, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII. He worked as an engineer for Rural Line Engineers in St. Louis.
On Nov. 11, 1949, in Hayti, Mo., he married
Wilma Euell, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, John Malinak and wife, Lisa, of Macomb; one daughter, Deborah VanBeck and husband, Garrett, of Plymouth, Ill.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Woodlawn cemetery in Hayti with the Rev. Willard Stevens officiating.
Memorials may be made to the McDonough District Hospice Program, 527 E. Grant, Macomb, ill. 61455.

Faye Smith
Gladys Faye Smith, 63, of Clarkton, Mo., died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Nov. 15, 1939, in Wardell, Mo., daughter of the late Melton and Mary Pauline Lincoln Wilson, she was of the Mormon faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Debbra Carroll, of Scott, La., Sheila Pursifull, of Humble, Texas, Justina Rose, of Damon, Texas and Aurora Rangel, of Katy, Texas; two sons, Timoteo Yracheta, of Alvin, Texas and Cheil Cardenas, of Charleston, Mo.; four sisters, Frances Jones, of Clarkton, Polly Ramsey, of Ellington, Mo., Wanda Price, of Gideon, Mo. and Linda Williams, of Cardwell, Mo.; five brothers; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral srvices were held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, March 6, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Gideon, Mo. with Elders Carl Warren and Ron Stocker officiating.
Burial was in the Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton.
J.B. Bowling
J.B. "Dude" Bowling, 70, of Kennett, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born March 26, 1932, in Clinton, Ark., son of the late Clint and Lillie Eades Bowling, he was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
On Jan. 5, 1952, in Piggott, Ark., he married
Jewell Louise Lebo, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three sons, Larry Bowling and wife, Kelly and Jackey Bowling, all of Kennett and Joel Bowling, of Rockford, Ill.; one brother, Douglas Bowling, of Bragg City, Mo. and two sisters, Mary L. Bowling and Verble Duncan, both of Kennett.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Oscar, Junior and Martin Bowling and four infant sisters.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Friday, March 7, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Honorary pallbearers are all nieces and nephews.

John Dowdy, 53, of Senath, Mo., died Thursday, March 6, at the Senath Nursing Center.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 10, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at the Senath cemetery.
Joan Fortner
Joan Godsey Fortner, 80, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Clarkton, Mo., died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at her residence.
Born Feb. 15, 1923, in Clarkton, daughter of the late Shelby Clem and Agnes James Godsey, she was an artist.
On Dec. 25, 1952, in Clarkton, she married
Wally Fortner, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Emily Hickman and husband, John, of Seattle, Wash.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Buddy Godsey and one sister, Emily Godsey.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, March 7, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Bob Phillips officiating.
Burial was in the Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton.
Captola Lambert
Captola E. Lambert, 77, of Cardwell, Mo., died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at her residence.
Born Aug. 3, 1925, in Paragould, Ark., daughter of the late Lindsey and Minnie Sanders Lester, she was a member of the Forrest Grove Baptist Church in Cardwell.
On Jan. 2, 1949, in Leachville, Ark., she married
Billy Wayne Lambert, Sr., who preceded her in death on April 20, 1990. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, C.S. Jr., Buddy and Leon Lester and two sisters, Dessie Vaughn and Bonnie Ransom.
Survivors include one son, Billy Wayne Lambert, Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Jonesboro, Ark.; one sister, Bessie Tracer, of Rector, Ark. two step-grandchildren, April and Malcom Hunter.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, March 7, at the Forrest Grove Baptist Church in Cardwell with the Rev. Kenneth Hargrove officiating.
Burial was in the Cardwell cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tim Tracer, Stephen Hill, Kyle Blankenship, Paul Gunter, Darnell Stafford and Fred Swain.
Johnny Dowdy
Johnny Richard Dowdy, 54, of Senath, Mo., died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at the Senath Nursing Center.
Born Jan. 17, 1949, in Octa, Mo., he was the son of the late William Edgar and Chloia Easter Scroggin Dowdy.
Survivors include two brothers, Dennis Dowdy, of Highspring, Fla. and Terry Dowdy, of Felda, Fla.; six sisters, Frances B. Morgan, of Clarksville, Tenn., Ara Lee Morgan, Linda J. Smith and Brenda S. Lane, all of Senath, Pat Sasso, of Ocala, Fla. and Betty S. Parker, of Midway, W.V. and one aunt, Jewell Stover, of Morrilton, Ark.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Noel Bud Dowdy and one sister, Sonja Burcham.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 10, at the McDaniel Fuenral Home Chapel in Senath with the Revs. James Winkle and Denver Glenn officiating.
Burial was in the Senath cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lester Jean Smith, Don Burcham, Sean Winkle, Chuck Henson, Steve Winters, Oney Pruett and Darrell Morgan.
Donald Hughes
Donald Hughes, 74, of Campbell, Mo., died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born Oct. 14, 1928, in Piggott, Ark., son of the late Martin and Hettie Allman Hughes, he was in the salvage business and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Campbell.
On Nov. 6, 1949, in Paragould, Ark., he married
Marietta Daffron, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three daughters, Dr. Donetta Ginn and husband, Terry, of Memphis, Tenn., Diana Graham and husband, Bob and Mary Frances Branham and husband, Adam, all of Nashville, Tenn.; one son, Martin Hughes and wife, Kathy, of Nashville; two brothers, Willard Hughes, of Piggott and Delbert Hughes, of St. Francis, Ark.; three sisters, Lenora Dalton and June Rodney, both of Michigan and Elaine Mobley, of Piggott; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 11, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Campbell with Bros. Tony Wood, James Epps, Mike Redman, Terry Ginn and Rick Pearson officiating.
Burial will follow at the Gravel Hill cemetery in St. Francis.
Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church or St. Judes in Memphis.
