Gregory Smith
Gregory Stephen Smith, 48, of California, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003.
Born Jan. 14, 1955, in Pomona, Calif., he was the son of James M. and Mary Ellen Smith, of Covina, formerly of the Kennett area. He was a horticulturist and a nurseryman for the state of California.
Survivors also include one sister, Marsha Smith and husband, Andy; two brothers, Michael Smith and Kent Smith and wife, Cherylin; two nephews, Jeromey and Jeffrey Smith; four uncles, Russ, Howard, Jerry and Miles Webb and two aunts, Karen and Glenna G. Webb.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Oakdale, Glendora. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or City of Hope, Duarte.
Wesley Thurman
Wesley Thurman, 85, of Piedmont, Mo., died, Monday, April 28, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Landess Funeral Home of Campbell, Mo.
Ellen Walton
Ellen Annetta Walton, 88, of Gideon, Mo., died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at the Gideon Care Center.
Born Sept. 19, 1914, in Calhoun City, Miss., daughter of the late Will and Clara Sugg Goodson, she was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God in Gideon.
On Aug. 25, 1934, she married
Kim Walton, who preceded her in death on June 2, 1977. She was also preceded in death by one son, Buddy Wayne Walton and four sisters, Marion Stewart, Willie Gulledge, Ruth Bounds and Pansy Wilson.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Walton, of St. Peters, Mo., Jerry Walton, of Clarkton, Mo. and Jim Walton, of Indainapolis, Ind.; two daughters, Jessie Faye Thompson, of Houghton, La. and Helen Berg, of Murray, Ky.; one brother, Kenneth Goodson, of Calhoun City; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 29, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Gideon.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cleo Payne officiating.
Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton.
Glenn Earl
Glenn Earl, 72, of Senath, Mo., died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 30, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Methodist Church in Senath.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
Mary Johnson
Mary Ellen Johnson, 62, of Marmaduke, Ark., died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Paragould, Ark.
Born June 17, 1940, in Greene County, Ark., daughter of the late Clarence William and Earlene Jones, she was retired from Rector Sportswear in Rector, Ark.
She married
Edward Johnson, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Dennis Johnson and wife, Debbie, of Paragould; three daughters, Tammie Jordan and husband, Mark and Denise Wooldridge and husband, Keith, all of Marmaduke and Beverly Carroll and husband, Allen, of Paragould; one brother, Ronald Dale Jones, of Rector; two sisters, Lou Wonda Carter, of Rector and Linda Sue Flint, of Kennett; eight grandchildren, Amy and Stephany Johnson and Brenna Gilmer, all of Paragould and Jason Jordan, Heather Dickinson, Kerry and Brian Wooldridge and Andrew Dulaney, all of Marmaduke and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jordan, Renee Gilmer and Ashlyn Matthews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Stella Louise Smotherman. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Marmaduke Church of Christ in Marmaduke.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, at the Marmaduke Church of Christ with Arvil Hill and Tim Wooldridge officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ramers Chapel cemetery near Marmaduke. Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector is in charge of arrangements.
Glen Moyer
Glen Moyer, 60, of Germantown, Tenn., formerly of Holcomb, Mo., died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at his residence.
Born Aug. 11, 1942, in Campbell, Mo., he was the son of the late Marvin and Nadine Looney Moyer.
Survivors include one son, Brian Moyer, of Coldwater, Miss.; one daughter, Melissa Moyer, of Horn Lake, Miss.; one brother, Thomas Moyer, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three sisters, Virginia Meier, of Boonville, Ind., Christine Moyer, of Bitburg, Germany and Ruth McGhee, of Jefferson City, Mo. and one grandson, Joshua Moyer.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 30, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Glen Cox officiating.
Burial will follow at the Pine City cemetery.
Wes Thurman
Wes Thurman, 85, of Piedmont, Mo., died Monday, April 28, 2003, at his residence.
Born Feb. 2, 1918, in Nimmons, Ark., son of the late Oba and Flora Page Thurman, he was a member of the Lynn Oak General Baptist Church in Clarkton, Mo., a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Kiwanis in Clarkton. He was a city alderman for Clarkton.
On July 21, 1958, in St. Louis, Mo., he married
Mary Dace, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two daughters, Bridgett Ashford, of Cape Coral, Fla. and Cheryl Baker, of Columbia, S.C.; three sons, Ronnie Thurman, of Glen Carbon, Ill., Terry Thurman, of Orlando, Fla. and Donnie Thurman, of Kennett; two sisters, Pearl Key, of Piggott, Ark. and Deana Ford, of Kennett; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Gertrude Smith, Lena Stokes, Dolly McCoin and Aretta Loyd and one brother, Roscoe Thurman.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 30, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Landess Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jack Allen officating.
Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton.
Robert Green
Robert Wayne Green, 81, of Laguna Woods, Calif, formerly of Kennett, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Barnes Green, of Laguna Woods; three children, Robert Green, Jr., of Dana Point, Thomas Green, of Clovis and Terri Rousseau, of Huntington Beach; one sister, Betty Pelts, of Kennett; two brothers, Charles Green, of Kennett and Bill Green, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 2, at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
Aubrey Martin
Aubrey Dale Martin, 48, of Steele, Mo., died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Kennett.
Born Dec. 9, 1954, in Kennett, son of Cqumela Martin, of Steele and the late W.C. "Dub" Martin, he was a Mason, a member of the First Baptist Church in Steele and a Little League coach. He was employed at Frito-Lay Co.
On Sept. 20, 1974, in Steele, he married
Cheryl Powell, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three children, Jessica Martin, of Jonesboro, Ark., Heath Martin and wife, April, of Munford, Tenn. and Anna Martin, of Steele; one sister, Judy Gail Kethcum, of Steele and one brother, Todd Martin and wife, Angie, of Cabot, Ark.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, at the First Baptist Church in Steele with Bro. Jim Mousie officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Sprouse, Chuck Clay, Jacob Black, Charlie Hardy, Drew Green, Keith Pritchard.
Honorary pallbearers were Kelly Rhodes, Joe Wayne, David, Mark and Carl Martin, Chad Burton, Jason Brewer, Wayne Still.
John W. German Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.

Christene House Mitchell, 84, of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Sikeston, Mo.

Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Peggy Rushing
Peggy Rushing, 35, of Senath, Mo., died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Senath.
Born Nov. 15, 1967, she was the daughter of Mary Sproal Isbell Burgess, of Piggott, Ark. and the late Thomas Harland Isbell.
On Aug. 27, 2002, she married
Bobby Rushing, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two children, Berry Andrew Turner, of Kennett and Brandee Renee Rushing, of Senath; two step-daughters, Bobbie Brooks and husband, Chris and Jennie Hunter and husband, Michael, all of Senath; two step-sons, Robbie Rushing and wife, Vonda, of St; Louis, Mo. and Stephen Rushing and wife, Beverley, of Senath; two brothers, William Thomas Isbell, of Piggott and Daniel Isbell, of Brickeys, Ark.; one sister, Lillian Hopkins, of Piggott and four step-grandchildren, Nicole, Woody, Nathanael and Charley.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, May 1, at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Bob McNabb officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers are Thierry Chandler, Cleo Jones, Mark Blakemore, Stephen Rushing, Chris Brooks and Michael Hunter.
