Ernest Carr
Ernest B. Carr, 85, of Cordova, Tenn., formerly of Hayti, Mo., died Monday, June 30, 2003, at the Cordova Rehab Nursing home.
Born on March 13, 1918, in Dyersburg, Tenn., a son of the late James Franklin and Lorene Jones Carr, he was a member of the Cordova Church of Christ and a retired farmer.
On May 29, 1947, he married
Madge Gibson who survives of the home.
Survivors include two sons, Ernie Bolin and wife, Lillian of Naylor, Mo., and Tom Irby of Jackson, Miss.; one daughter, Becky Doyle of Collierville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 7, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti, with Jerry Martin officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery in Hayti.
Pallbearers were Neal Doyle, Nathan Martin, Bob Gallamore, Bobby Liddell and Kevin Scott.
Stella Miller
Stella Marie Miller, 84, of Bernie, Mo., died Monday, July 7, 2003 at Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born on November 28, 1918 in Deering, Mo., to the late Elmer and Lynnie Blankenship Rains, she had worked as a housekeeper at the hospital in West Plains, Mo., for several years and attended the Bernie Christian Church.
In 1936, she married
Charles Afton Miller, who preceded her in death in 1979.
Survivors include one step-son, Carnell Miller of Blytheville, Ark., two sisters, Elizabeth Batey of Bernie, and Mary Davidson of Flint, Mich.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Agnes Hasket.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 9, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, with the Rev. Ron Williams officiating.
Burial will be in the Bernie cemetery.
Lucretia Smith
Lucretia Ann Smith, 60, of Tallapoosa, Mo., died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born April 25, 1953 in Kennett, a daughter of the late George Andrew and Lillie Harmon Woollums, she was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Tallapoosa.
On August 16, 1965 she married
Quention Franklin Smith of Tallapoosa.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Copeland of Tallapoosa, and Tracy Gaskins of Holcomb, Mo.; five sons, Perry Gaskins of Sikeston, Mo., Joe Smith of Tallapoosa, Dewayne Smith of Kennett, and Franklin and Donald Smith, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one brother, George Woollums of Clarkton, Mo.; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Eugene Smith, three sisters, Hazel Hall, Betty Skief and Mona Rawls; four brothers, Marion, Raymond, J.L. and Doyle Woollums.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today, July 10, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 11, at the Bradshaw Chapel in Malden.
Burial will be in the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton.
Ethel Smith
Ethel Smith, 89, of Kennett, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at her residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with McDaniel Funeral Home Services in Kennett.
Lotti VanDeWaal
Lotti VanDeWaal, 87, of Hayti, Mo., died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born January 22, 1916, in Hickman Bend, Ark., a daughter of the late Joe Earl and Noral Lee McLaughlin Vaughn, she was of the Baptist faith.
On November 5, 1932, in Blytheville, Ark., she married
Carl O. VanDeWaal, who preceded her in death on May 21, 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Carl Stanton VanDeWaal and wife, Barbara and Rular Racklin VanDeWaal and wife, Sherron, all of Hayti; two daughters, Sara Jo House and husband, Frank of Gideon, Mo., Shirley Jacklin VanDeWaal Ferguson and husband, Sonny, of Hayti; two grandchildren raised as children, Bobby Johnson of Aurora, Colo. and Kimberly Terrett of Hayti; six grandchildren, Reba Brantley, of Pocahontas, Ark., Michael Terrett, of Portageville, Mo., Angela VanDeWaal Brown of Hayti, Carl Joseph Terrett of Portageville, Paul Stanton VanDeWaal of Hayti, and Jonathon VanDeWaal of Caruthersville, Mo.; six great-grandchildren, Carl Joseph Terrett, Jr., and Jessica Michelle Terrett, both of Portageville, Melissa Carol Greenwell of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Katlyn Carol Johnson, and Benjamin Michael Johnson, both of Aurora, Colo., and Danyelle Powell Alexander, of Ellsinore, Mo.; one sister, Hazel Welch of Milan, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Arlene Kemper.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, July 8, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti, with Rev. Nickey McMinn officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery in Hayti.
Pallbearers were Michael Terrett, Joey Terrett, John Fritz, Bobby Irions, Robert Allen Shaffer and Jack Rinehart.
Ruth Williams
Ruth Williams, 94, of Kennett, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 10, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Revs. Scott and Jerry Williams officiating.
Burial will be in the Lulu cemetery in Senath, Mo.
Mike Young
Mike Wayne Young, 56, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at his residence.
Born August 17, 1946, in Caruthersville, a son of the late Luther and Annie Rose Orey Young, he was an electrician and the owner and operator of Young's Package store in Hayti, Mo. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caruthersville.
Survivors include one son, George L. Young of Caruthersville; one sister, Faye Pierce of Caruthersville and a number of nephews and nieces.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at the Maple cemetery with Rev. Jack Young officiating.
The H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Nicholas Boyer
Nicholas Lane Boyer died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born on July 9, 2003, in Poplar Buff, he was a son of Michelle Lynch and Shawn Boyer, both of Poplar Bluff.
Survivors include two sisters, Kailey and Alexia Boyer, both of Poplar Bluff; grandparents, Henry and Louise Wagster of Campbell, Mo., Mike Harper of Holcomb, Mo., and Charles and Shirley Elliott of Poplar Bluff; great-grandmothers, Myrtle Pitts and Betty Moore, both of Campbell and Bonnie Gross of St. Louis, Mo., great-aunt, Brenda Billings of Bartlett, Tenn.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today, Friday, July 11, at Woodlawn cemetery-Landess Addition in Campbell with minister LaVerne Wright officiating.
Russell Combs
Russell B. Combs, 47, of Dittmer, Mo., formerly of the Kennett area, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at State Park in Bonita Springs, Fla.
Born December 16, 1955 in Dayton, Oh., a son of Raymond Russell Combs and Joy Ethel Dorsey. He was a veteran Air Force Master Sgt., a fireworks manufacturer truck driver, a member of the Cedar Hill Elk Lodge, and Air Force Gunners Association. He was also of the Baptist faith.
On May 7, 1976 he married
Juanita E. Richards Combs, who survives of the home.
Survivors include one son, Marcus Sutterfield; two daughters, Joy Stephen Dunn, of Point Pleasant, W. Va., and Danny Brandon, of Caruthersville, Mo.; three brothers, Raymond Otto Combs, Douglas Combs, and Samuel Combs, all of Ohio; two sisters, Chelsea Charles Stearns of Ohio, and Byrna Ritchie Combs; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Neal Sutterfield.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the Chapel Hill Mortuary, in Cedar Hill, Mo.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, at the cemetery Memorial Gardens, in Kennett.
Ethel Smith
Ethel Smith, 89, of Kennett, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at her residence.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, July 11, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at the McDaniel Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Dennis Collins officiating.
Burial will be in the Gregory cemetery in Kennett.
Ruth Williams
Ruth Wilda McDaniel Williams, 94, of Kennett, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born on March 26, 1909 in Weberton, Okla., she was a daughter of the late Charles McDaniel and Effie Mae Jane Brown.
On March 19, 1928 she married
Stanley B. Williams, who preceded her in death on July 13, 1995.
Survivors include five sons, Billy Williams of St. Charles, Mo., Charles Williams of San Diego, Calif., Joel Lee Williams of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Gary Von Williams, of Cuba, Mo., and Jerry Bon Williams of Gideon, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Lou Cole and Brenda Tucker, both of Kennett; two brothers, L.V. McDaniel of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., and Gerald Lee McDaniel of Hardy, Ark., one sister, Donna Levins of Monument, Colo.; 43 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by on son, Donald Dewayne Williams, one brother, Carl M. McDaniel, two sisters, Lucille Jeffries and Juanita Combs.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today, Friday, July 11, at the McDaniel Chapel in Kennett with the Revs. Scott and Jerry Williams officiating.
Burial was in the Lulu cemetery near Senath, Mo.
Pallbearers were Keith Tucker, Britt Cole, Kent Williams, Tim Williams, Vernon Lowe and Mike Williams.
Honorary pallbearers were the grandchildren.
