David Battles
David L. Battles, 48, of Bloomfield, formerly of Senath, died Thursday, July 10, 2003 at his residence.
Born Jan. 26, 1955 in Kennett, he was a son of Maxine McGrew of Senath and the late John Battles, he was employed as a Control Room Operator for Associated Electric in New Madrid, Mo., from 1987 until ill health forced his retirement.
On Jan. 23, 1973 he married
Debbie Hicks, who survives of the home. Survivors include two sons, Mike Battles of Bloomfield and Levi Battles of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Tammy Pullum of Bloomfield, five brothers, Bill Battles of Richardson, Texas, Glen Battles of Racine, Wis., Larry Battles of Flintville, Tenn., Gary Battles of Garland, Texas and Randy Battles of Kenosha, Wis.; two sisters, Faye Gurley of Kennett and Angelia Battles of Senath; five grandchildren, Austin and Tyler Battles, Rachel and Tommy Pullam, all of Bloomfield and Emily Battles of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Kenneth Battles.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, July 12, 2003 at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Billy Davis officiating.
Burial will be in the Bloomfield cemetery in Bloomfield.
Jean Mosley
Jean Bell Mosley, 89, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Friday, July 11, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, at the funeral home, with Dr. Clayton Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Ethel Smith
Ethel Smith, 89, of Kennett, died Wednesday, July 9, at her residence.
Born May 29, 1914, in Athens, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Hester Pope Martin.
She married
Emmett Loyal Smith who preceded her in death July 9, 1964. She was also preceded in head by three sons, Billy, Ronnie and Eddie Smith and two daughters, Jewel Brown and Mary Vane Icenogale.
Surviving are four daughters, Delois Stokenbury of Springdale, Ark., Sussie Whitaker of Lakeland, Fla., Emma Bates and Barbara Kennedy, both of Kennett; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Dennis Collins officiating.
Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Bernice Dawson
Bernice "Toady" Dawson, 89, of Hayti, Mo., died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Born Oct. 27, 1913, in Fulton County, Ark., daughter of the late Martin C. and Mona Stephens Dawson, she was a homemaker and a member of the Hayti Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sisters, Beatrice Land and Myrl Cross, both of Hayti; three brothers, Edsel Dawson and wife, Essie, of Hayti., Bob Dawson and wife, Anna Beth, of Iowa Park, Texas and Neal Dawson and wife, Wanda, of Olive Branch, Miss. and a special friend, Ivan Caple, of Caruthersville, Mo.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Raymond Dawson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Church of Christ in Hayti with John Mark Wilson officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery at Hayti.
Pallbearers were nephews, Mark, Robert M. and Steven Dawson, Terry Cross, Robert Shields and Troy Land.
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
Minnie Holt
Minnie Rosita Holt, 62, of Holcomb, Mo., died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Feb. 12, 1941, in Kennett, she was the daughter of the late Eul Carter and Lonnie Nadine Berry.
Survivors include one son, Rick Holt and wife, Deanna, of Paragould, Ark.; one daughter, Lisa Montgomery, of Cardwell, Mo.; one brother, Ben Carter and wife, Bonnie, of Rector, Ark.; two grandchildren, Sheanna Holt and Chasidy Stanley, both of Paragould; one great-grandchild, Justin Stanley, of Paragould and a special friend, Billy R. Shelton.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Kenny Crafton officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Rick Shelton, Terry Key, Wally Poyner, Charles Gray, Bud Malone and David Holt.
Illa Marley
Illa Faye Marley, 65, of Millington, Tenn., died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at her residence.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
Rosella Martin
Rosella Martin, 88, of Kennett, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at National Health Care in Kennett.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
Leon Presson
Leon Presson, 92, of Rector, Ark., died Friday, July 11, 2003, at his residence.
Born Oct. 3, 1910, in Rector, he was the son of the late Jesse and Elsie Presson.
Survivors include one daughter, Jo Ann Kirklin and husband, Don, of Rector; one brother, Wayne Presson, of Rector; three sisters, Mary Smith, of Horn Lake, Miss., Wanda Blaloch, of Maryland Heights, Mo. and Oleda Ford, of Mission, Texas; two grandchildren, Scott Kirklin and Leigh Ann Jones and four great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Tyler Kirklin and Kylee and Kirk Beshears.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Geraldine Presson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, at the First Baptist Church in Rector with Brother Ardell Polk officiating.
Burial was in the Woodland Heights cemetery at Rector.
Pallbearers were David Cagle, Webb Ernie Chittick, Melvin Crockett, Jack Randall, Hughey Kinam, Don Mosley, Melvin Mills and Gene Martin.

Lynette Tabor
Lynette E. Tabor, 58, of Memphis, Tenn., died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Bartlett, Tenn.
Born Feb. 4, 1945, in Tiptonville, Tenn., daughter of Josephine Tabor and the late Howard Tabor, she was a teacher and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville. She was awarded the Tennessee Education Association Susan B. Anthony Award and served as an active member and president of the Memphis Education Association.
Survivors include her mother, Josephine Tabor, of Caruthersville, Mo. and many cousins.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville with Pastor Ed Endsley officiating.
Burial was in the Tiptonville cemetery.
Pallbearers were James E. Naifeh, Jr., Timothy C., Samuel S., Christopher P. and Christopher K. Naifeh, Carey D. Hamra and Russell Downing.
Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund at the Memphis Education Association.

Audie Craft
Audie Belle Craft, 96, of Hernando, Miss., formerly of Hayti, Mo., died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, Miss.
Born March 6, 1907, in Greene County, Ark., daughter of the late George and Alice White Sims, she was a member of the Hayti First Baptist Church.
On March 29, 1931, in Lake City, Ark., she married
Emery Lary Craft, who preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1977. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; one sister; one great-grandson, Jsohua McGuire and an infant daughter, Maxine.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean Dickerson, of Hernando and Glenda Sorrell and husband, Jerry, of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, G.C. and Donald Sims, both of Paragould, Ark.two granddaughters, Tamme Barger, of Atoka, Tenn. and Kelley McGuire, of Memphis and three great-grandchildren, Dylan Burns and Jasmin and Jacob McGuire.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 21, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Dr. Mike Melton officiating.
Burial was in the Center Hill cemetery at Paragould.
Pallbearers were Bryan and Larry Hartsell, Jerry Sorrell, James Klinkhard, Max Sims and Bob Turnage.
