Elbert Miller
Elbert Clifton Miller, 70, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Monday, July 21, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Aug. 9, 1932, in Gideon, Mo., son of the late Evan and Bessie Hutchison Miller, he was a U.S. Army and Navy veteran, serving in Korea and Vietnam and a member of the Bellview Assembly of God Church in Pensacola, Fla.
On Nov. 5, 1951, in Piggott, Ark., he married
Doris Jean Boone, who preceded him in death on June 12, 1999. On March 18, 2002, in Pensacola, he married
Nora Hardcastle Reedy, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, James Miller, of Pensacola; four daughters, Connie Tobin, of Clinton, Miss. and Carol Pope, Diana Miller and Nancy Bivins, all of Pensacola; one step-daughter, Wendy Baker, of Mountain Home, Ark.; one step-son, Butch Reedy, of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, Paul, John and Joe Miller and Evan Miller, Jr. and three sisters, Louise Bell and Bernice and Philipia Miller.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, July 24, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden, Mo.
Burial was in the Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.
Jessie Chailland
Jessie Olin Chailland, 84, of Kennett, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Sunday, July 27, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, at the McDaniel Chapel in Kennett.
Burial will be in the Liberty cemetery at Caruth, Mo.
Charles Duncan
Charles E. Duncan, 65, of Bernie, Mo. died Friday, July 25, 2003 in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Mo.
Born January 29, 1938, in Trotter, Mo., he was a son of the late Ray S. and Dorothy Blevins Duncan. He had been employed by Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Malden and Marion, Mo., for 35 years.
On March 10, 1981, in Essex, Mo., he married
Linda Nichols who survives of the home.
Also surviving are three sons, Mike Duncan of St. Louis, Mo., Shane Duncan and Nicholas Duncan, both of Bernie; two daughters, Cindy Bell of Bloomfield, Mo., and Stephanie Duncan of Bernie; two step-daughters, Tomza Vanhorn of Dexter, and Tammy Hill of Millstadt, Ill.; three brothers, Jerry Duncan of Essex, Doyle Duncan of Afton, Mo., and Jimmy Duncan of Bloomfield, Mo. and one sister, Loretta Ferguson of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Linda McAnulty. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, July 27, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Stan Dauck officiating.
Burial will be in the Bernie cemetery in Bernie. James McCrary
The Reverend James McCrary, 86, of Kennett, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at National Healthcare of Kennett.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett.
Robert Patten
Robert L. "Toot" Patten, 84, of Kennett, died Monday July 21, 2003, at the St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born on April 29, 1919, in Arkadelphia, Ark., he was a son of the late R. L. and Nova Jean (Hearn) Patten. He was a veteran of the Army and was a retired employee of the Street Dept. in Kennett.
On December 5, 1943, he married
Johnnie Mae LaGrom, who survives of the home.
Survivors include two foster children, Daniel Moore and Louise Townsend, both of Malden, Mo.; two nephews, Gearlie and Venus Wheeler of Kennett; four nieces, Rudy Traylor, Annette Traylor and Perllie Mae Golden, all of Michigan and Arlie B. Wheeler of Oakland, Calif.; seven great-grand nephews, Terry and David Wheeler of Kennett, Calvin, Ronnie, Rondal, and Damon Wheeler, all of Oakland, Calif. and Johnnie White of Japan; two great-grand nieces, Easter Mae Taylor and Tammy Williams, both of Kennett.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett with the Bishop Willie H. Johnson, Sr. officiating.
Burial was in the Oakridge cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Sidney Denham, Harold White, Odell Harrell, LaVan Pulliam, Joe Rogers, Herman White and Johnny Pulliam.
Honorary pallbearers were Gearlie Wheeler, Terry Wheeler, Daniel Moore, James Williams, David Wheeler and Emanuel Wheeler.
Gracie Stanley
Gracie L. Stanley, 88, of Malden, Mo. died Thursday, July 24, 2003 at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Born on September 14, 1914 in Dyersburg, Tenn., a daughter of the late James Franklin Adkins and Lena Garrard Stanley, she was a retired seamstress for Gossard Garment Factory in Malden. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Malden.
On November 18, 1941, she married
Frank Stanley, who preceded her in death on January 29, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, James F. Stanley, and wife Betty and Bobby Hix, all of Malden; one daughter, Lena Reed of Ft. Worth, Texas; one brother, Woodrow Adkins of Dyersburg, Tenn. and one sister, Glendola Wright of Campbell, Mo.; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Adkins and Luther Higgenbotham; one sister, Frankie Richardson; and one son, Eddie Joe Stanley.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, July 27, at the Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Dale Shoup officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.
Bessie Vancil
Bessie Vancil, 84, of DeSoto, Mo., and formerly of Malden, Mo., died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Hillcrest Skilled Nursing Center in DeSoto.
Born December 1, 1918, at Rector, Ark., a daughter of the late Frank Bates and Ida Moore Bates Taylor, she was owner-operator of Vancil's Grocery formerly located in Malden. She was a member of the Sunnyvale General Baptist Church at Malden.
On November 15, 1936, in Malden, she married
J.E. Vancil who preceded her in death December 29, 2000.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth Vancil and wife, Karen, of Dittmer, Mo.; two grandchildren, Kenneth Dewayne Vancil of DeSoto and Lisa Patterson of Dittmer, and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Sunday, July 27, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, at the Landess Chapel with the Rev. Joe Williams officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.
Jessie Chailland
Jessie Olin Chailland, 84, of Kennett, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born June 17, 1919, in Caruth, Mo., he was the son of the late Fred Edgar and Vallie V. Thompson Chailland.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Tom Chailland, of Kennett, Freddie Joe Chailland, of Russellville, Ark., and Frankie Loys Chailland, of Tupelo, Miss.; two daughters, Betsy Jean Walls and Nancy Lynn Nichols, both of Kennett; one sister, Emma Jo Horner, of Kennett; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Celestia Jane Chailland and Janet Sue Clark and one brother, Fred Eugene Chailland.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, at the McDaniel Funral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.
Burial was in the Liberty cemetery at Caruth.
Pallbearers were Tom Chailland, Jr., Steve Chailland, Jason Nichols, Gary Walls, Jr., Chris Clark and Jack Clark, Jr.
Porcial Jansson
Porcial L. Jansson, 80, of Kennett, formerly of Fletcher, Okla., died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born March 14, 1923, in Ringgold, Texas, daughter of the late Hubert L. and Lillian Esther Whorton Kilcrease, she was employed at TDS Telecom and was a member of the Fletcher First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Rev. Karl Edward Jansson III and wife, Judy, of Kennett; two daughters, Deborah Elliott and husband, Mike and Kathi Morgan, all of Denver, Colo.; one brother, H.L. Kilcrease, Jr., of Conroe, Texas; two sisters, Adele Cole and husband, Dale, of Elgin, Okla. and Yvonne Kenney and husband, Ron, of Aurora, Colo.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, at the First Baptist Church in Fletcher, Okla. with the Rev. Randy McFarland and Mike Tompkins officiating.
Burial was in the Fletcher cemetery.
Robbins Funeral Home of Fletcher was in charge of arrangements.
Ollie Jones
Ollie Riggs Jones, 83, of Overland, Mo., formerly of Senath, Mo., died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at the Woodland Nursing Home in Maryland Heights, Mo.
Visitation will be from 11 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the McGrew cemetery in Senath.
James McCrary
Rev. James McCrary, 86, of Kennett, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at National Health Care in Kennett.
Born Nov. 12, 1916, in Montgomery, Ala., son of the late William F. and Eunice A. Gladney McCrary, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII. He was a minister and a member of the First Baptist Church.
On March 9, 1943, he married
Lois Behrens, who preceded him in death on April 16, 2001.
Survivors include one son, Michael McCrary, of Sarasota, Fla. and two grandchildren, Amanda Travis, of Cape Canaveral, Fla. and Alisha Cole McCrary, of Deland, Fla.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, July 29, at the First Baptist Church in Steele, Mo., with the Rev. James Mousie officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Jack Brooks, George Cooke, David Haggard, Steve Lightfoot, Bobby Powell and Wilburn Proctor.

Arlene Shye
Arlene Louise Shye, 73, of Hornersville, Mo., died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born Aug. 6, 1929, in Skokie, Ill., daughter of the late Carl and Emily Linderman Miller, she was a waitress and a member of the Trinity Community Church in Cardwell, Mo.
On Sept. 25, 1945, she married
Carl Shuye, Sr., of Chicago, Ill.
Survivors also include three sons, Carl Dennis Shye, Jr. and Gary Keslie Shye, both of Jonesboro, Ark. and David Lee Shye, of Chicago, Ill.; three daughters, Carol Webb, of Wonder Lake, Ill., Corrine Johnson, of Hornersville and Kathleen Riveria, of Chicago; one brother, Donald Miller; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Shawn Shye and one sister, Laverne Huff.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 29, at the Trinity Community Church with the Rev. Kevin Knox officiating.
Burial was in the Lulu cemetery at Senath, Mo.
Bradshaw-Emerson Funeral Home of Hornersville was in charge of arrangements.
