Alma Adams

Alma Mae Adams, 84, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at the Caruthersville Nursing Home.

Born June 20, 1917, in Pemiscot County, Mo., daughter of the late George Washington and Mazie Odom Wyatt, she was a seamstress with Brown Shoe Company prior to her retirement and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville.

On April 5, 1952, in Piggott, Ark., she married Henry Edward Adams, who preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1999.

Survivors include one daughter, Sue C. Bess, of Caruthersville; four grandchildren, Katrina Ann Hollomon and Michael Cole, both of Caruthersville, James Bradford Barnett, of Cordova, Tenn. and Lisa Suzanne Dolson, of Birmingham, Mich.; six great-grandchildren, Michael Nathaniel Cole and Lillie Cole Hollmon, both of Caruthersville, Dana Cole, of Hayti, Mo., Conor Michael and Ryan Bradford Dolson, both of Birmingham and Sidney Claire Barnett, of Cordova and two sisters, Sarah Jane Wyatt, of Austin, Texas and Tommie Edna Smith, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and one son, Raymond Michael Cole.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Dwight Chapman officiating.

Burial was in the Little Prairie cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Nathan and Mike Cole, Jeff Helfer, Brad Barnett, Mark and Daryl Wyatt.

Earl Dale

Earl Dale, 96, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Kennett, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Jan. 17, 1905, in Rector, Ark., son of the late Woodie and Telee Dale, he was a farmer and merchant and a member of the First Baptist Church in Kennett, serving as a deacon.

On Oct. 9, 1926, he married Lora Jane Cary, who survives, of Cape Girardeau.

Survivors also include one son, James Cary Dale, and wife, Barbara, of Houston, Texas; one daughter, June Richardson and husband, Bill, of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Debbie Dale Paylor, of Clyde, Texas, Dana Dale Brewer and David Cary Dale, both of Houston, Lisa Richardson Quick, of Cape Girardeau and Cara Richardson, of Annapolis, Md.; two brothers, James Dale, of Pollard, Ark. and Gerald Dale, of St. Charles, Mo.; two sisters, Imogene Millikan, of McDougal, Ark. and Melva Jean Chilcutt, of Elsberry, Mo. and four great-grandchildren, Bryson and Suzanne Paylor, Devon James Brewer and Whitney Amanda Quick.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Ed Jansson officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Terry Malone, Gerald Tackeberry, Tom Striegel, Tom Gurley, Tom Kinsey and Bob Lamb.

Edmond Dutkiewicz

Edmund Dutkiewicz, 79, of Hayti, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.

Born Aug. 25, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked at a grain elevator.

Survivors include six sons, Gray Dutkiewicz, of Gideon, Mo., Richard and Roger Dutkiewicz, both of St. Charles, Mo., Eugene Dutkiewicz, of Newport News, Va., Pete Dutkiewicz, of Dallas, Texas and Jack Dutkiewicz, of Ramstein, Germany; two daughters, Reginia Dutkiewicz, of St. Louis, Mo. and Cathy Graham, of Hayti; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Jefferson Barracks cemetery in St. Louis.

William Johnson, Sr.

William Houston Johnson, Sr., 92, of Gideon, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Oct. 21, 1909, in Malden, Mo., son of the late Jasper Ewing and Dollie M. Coons Johnson, he was past mayor and alderman of Gideon, past member of the New Madrid County Health Board, past president of Gideon Kiwanis, where he served as district governor, past Boy Scout leader and was crowned Domino Champion of Gideon. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gideon, member of the Board of Trustees and past president of the Methodist Mens Club, where he helped start and oversee the Gideon Little League. He was also owner and operator of the Johnson Oil Company and Auto Parts.

On Feb. 28, 1934, in New Madrid, Mo., he married Cansada Eldridge, who preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1997.

Survivors include one son, Dr. W.H. Johnson, Jr. and wife, Ann, of Morgan City, La; two daughters, Camille Wilson and husband, Joe, of Texarkana, Ark. and Carolyn Dell and husband, Earl, of Gideon; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Homer H. Johnson.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at the Badshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Gideon with the Rev. Joe Williams officiating.

Burial was in the Park cemetery at Malden.

Darrell Meares, Sr.

Darrell Elmer Meares, Sr., 55, of Cardwell, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at his residence.

Born Jan. 6, 1946, in Paragould, Ark., son of the late Albert and Bivian Hill Meares, he was a farm hand and of the Pentecostal faith.

He married Helen Box Meares, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two sons, Tony Meares and wife, Machelle and Darrell Meares, Jr. and wife Oma, all of Paragould; one daughter, Flora Meares, of Cardwell; one grandson, Darrell Elmer Meares III, of Paragould; three granddaughters, Alycia Nicole and Sonya Jo Meares, both of Cardwell and Pamela Maria Meares, of Paragould and two sisters, Alberta Bateman, of Paragould and Faye Carroll, of Champaign, Ill.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with the Rev. Benny Isom and Ken Box officiating.

Burial was in the New Friendship cemetery at Paragould.

Heath Funeral Home of Paragould was in charge of arrangements.

Timothy Mode

Timothy David Mode, 29, of Rector, Ark., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Paragould, Ark.

Born Feb. 25, 1972, at Paragould, son of Glen Eldon and Diane Mode, both of Greenway, Ark., he was an employee of Kelly Electric in Kennett and he was of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors also include two sons, Timothy Mason and Blaine Colcord, both of Rector; one daughter, Kiley Shayna Mode, of Bartlett, Tenn.; two brothers, Victor Mode, of Kennett and Thomas Mode, of Little Rock, Ark. and a grandmother, Margie Gatewood, of Rector.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Ken Roden officiating.

Burial was in the Woodland Heights cemetery at Rector.

Pallbearers were Stephan Tinsley, Don Fortenberry, Chris Franks, Allen Underwood, Tony Conway and Joe Stidham.

Honorary pallbearers were Chris Hynds, Steve Franks and Jim Scott.

Raymond Taylor

Raymond Eugene "Ray" Taylor, 49, of Portageville, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 30, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.

Born May 13, 1952, in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Raymond Eugene and Elizabeth Taylor, Sr., he was manager of Radio Station KMIS in Portageville and a member of the Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Portageville, where he served on the Deacon Board.

On July 31, 1993, he married Carolyn Barnes, who survives of the home. Survivors also include his adoptive mothers, Dorothy Sikes and Robbie Taylor, both of Portageville.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Portageville.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Pleasant officiating.

Burial will follow at the Mason cemetery in Point Pleasant, Mo.

Williams - Farr and Purnell Funeral Home of Howardville, Mo. is in charge of arrangements.

Tom True

Tom Albert True, 68, of Holcomb, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Holcomb.

Born December, 29, 1932, in Leachville, Ark., son of the late James Henry and Lou Jewel Welch True, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War, a retired farmer in the Holcomb area, and served as president of Tom True Farms, Inc. He was a member and deacon of the South Canaan General Baptist Church and a board member and past treasurer of the Stanfield cemetery Association.

On Sept. 5, 1956, in Holcomb, he married Helen Jean Rainey, who preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1994.

Survivors include one son, Kevin True, of Marion, Ark.; one brother, Chester True and wife, Jesselyn, of Holcomb; one sister, Laverne Vaughn, of Piggott, Ark.; one aunt, Gladys Mauer, of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law, June Pelts, of Tunica, Miss. and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jonelle and Lamoin Holdner, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Charles and Jim True; four sisters, Betty Lou True, Wilma Kerr, Nadine Patterson and Shelby McCallister and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer and Rosa Hall Rainey. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Kevin Morris officiating.

Burial was in the Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.

Pallbearers were C.E. Lemonds, Cloyce Ray, Harold Piland, Ronnie Cross, Roger McDaniel and Kevin Cunningham.

Honorary pallbearers were the men of South Canaan General Baptist Church.

The family suggests that any memorials be sent to the South Canaan General Baptist Church Building Fund, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Ella Wilkins

Ella Mae Branum Wilkins, 97, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Malden and Hornersville, Missouri, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare in Cape Girardeau.

Born Jan. 22, 1904, in Hornersville, daughter of the late W.H. and Ruth Underwood Branum, she was a teacher for nearly 50 years in the area, teaching in Sikeston, Campbell, Hornersville, Holland and Charleston. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star-Carnation 141, Missouri State Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers Association and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hornersville.

On December 25, 1926, in Hornersville, she married Thomas R. Wilkins, who preceded her in death on July 4, 1981.

Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Marshall, of Benton, Mo.; one sister, Alice Snider, of Malden; three granddaughters, Jane Gaffigan, of Cape Girardeau, Kathleen Menz, of New Hamburg, Mo. and Faith Welker, of Arnold, Mo.; one grandson, Mark Marshall, of Cape Girardeau; two great-grandsons, Ryan Marshall, of Cape Girardeau and Christopher Menz, of New Hamburg and one great-granddaughter, Katelyn Menz, of New Hamburg.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Lillie Kennett, Emma Dunaway, Betty Edmunds and Bessie Bohannan and five brothers, Pete, Louie, Clarence, Albert and Melton Branum.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 4, with an OES Service at 7 p.m. at the Bradshaw-Emerson Funeral Home in Hornersville.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 at First United Methodist Church in Hornersville with the Revs. Mike Hargrave and Charles Marshall officiating.

Burial will follow at the Horner cemetery in Hornersville.

Otis Allen

Otis Allen, 85, of Malden, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Landess Funeral Home of Malden.
