Audrey Johnston
Audrey Johnston, 100, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Northwest Health Center in Fayetteville.
Born Dec. 13, 1901, in Brookland, Ark., daughter of the late Thomas W. and Sarah Lanston Phelps, she was a homemaker and a member of the Brookland United Methodist Church.
On April 11, 1919, in Brookland, she married
Robert W. Johnston, who preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1968. She was also preceded in death by one son, Gerald T. Johnston.
Survivors include two sons, Robert P. Johnston and wife, Eileen, of Brookland and James L. Johnston and wife, Janet, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; one daughter, Cornelia Barnett, of Kennett; two sisters, Mildred Phelps Willett, of Jonesboro, Ark. and Mary D. Phelps, of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren, Phillip and David Johnston, Penny Johnston Nill, Robert P. Johnston, Jr., Alvin and James L. Johnston, Jr., Marsha Crigler Beard and Kent Crigler and 13 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Eric, Jeffrey and Roger Johnston, Jeffrey Nill, Robert and Sam Beard, Mark, Brian, Tanner, Logan, Chad and Eric Crigler and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Pine Log United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Pine Log United Methodist Church with Elder G.W. Endicott officiating.
Burial will follow at the Pine Log cemetery near Brookland.
Gregg Funeral Home of Monette, Ark. was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be to the Brookland United Methodist Church.
Lawrence Maroney
Lawrence Austin "Cotton" Maroney, 70, of Hayti, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Memphis, Tenn.
Born Feb. 6, 1932, in Hayti, son of the late Jesse and Amenda Bradshaw Maroney, he was a dispatcher for Pemiscot Dunklin Electric.
On Feb. 7, 1970, in Hayti, he married
Carolyn Hundhausen, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three children, Brenda Riggs and husband, Kenneth, of Poughkeepsie, Ark. and Larry and Angie Maroney, both of Hayti; one step-daughter, Stephanie Doyle and husband, Dennis, of Cedar Rapids, Ia; one brother, Willard Maroney and wife, Marie, of Paragould, Ark.; one sister, Retha Reece, of Clinton, Ark.; one sister-in-law, Enela Maroney, of Wardell, Mo.; one aunt, Faye Tilmon, of Olive Branch, Miss.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jacquelyn and one brother, Charles Maroney.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Brother Griff Walker and Brother Charles Callens officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery at Hayti.
Pallbearers were Tracy Smith, Ray Van Carver, Tommie Smith, Jim Pelts, Charles Crawford and Jim Davis.
Honorary pallbearers were Bob Bolding, Dub Ratliff, Doug Bowling, Jim Smotherman, James Cummings, Shirrel Floyd, Coy DePew, Woodrow Parrish, Cremer Jackson and Herbert Hankins.

Lawrence Reagan, 88, of Steele, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Steele.
Jody Stratton
Jody L. Stratton, 84, of Kennett, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at National Health Care in Kennett.
Born Aug. 16, 1917, in Leachville, Ark., son of Charlie and Josephine Bride Stratton, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII.
On July 6, 1946, in Clay County Ark., he married
Bertha Lavern Shearer, who preceded him in death on December 30, 2000. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Jewel Black.
Survivors include one son, Bob Stratton and wife, Jan, of Heber Springs, Ark.; one daughter, Joann Ellet and husband, Jim, of Marion, Ind.; one brother, Homer Stratton, of Senath, Mo.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 22, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.
Lawrence Thornton
Lawrence V. Thornton, 64, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born June 20, 1937, at Oran, Mo., son of the late Jonas Thornton and Idell Lewis Thornton, he was a farmer and a member of the Mount Calvary Church in Parma, Mo.
Survivors include six daughters, Barbara Johnson, Cynthia Tillman and Leslie Johnson all of Parma, Mo., Loretta Thornton of Lilbourn, Mo., April Thornton and Brandy Thornton, both of Sikeston, Mo.; two brothers, Albert Thornton of Sikeston, Charles Thornton of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; four sisters, Lillie Bell Patton and Louise Davis both of Portageville, Mo., Marie Smith of Poplar Bluff, and Areatha Miller of Parma; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Regina Williams; three bothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Floyd Wade officiating.
Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.

Robin Michelle Pate Winkle, 36, of Hornersville, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Hornersville Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Clinton officiating.

Ruby Bailey, 99, of Clarkton, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Ark.

Harold W. Barnett, 85, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at the St. Luke's West Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.
Born July 7, 1916, in Baldwyn, Miss., son of the late John and Lula Rivers Barnett, he was a welder and machinist and owner of Barnett Head & Block in Carutherville. He was a founding member of the Men's Prayer Breakfast, a former Kiwanian, State Advisory Board Member of the Church of the Nazarene, a Lay Minister, formerly pitched in the St. Louis Browns Farm System, and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
On April 26, 1939, in Electric Mills, Miss., he married
Joy Ann Morris, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Joy Barnett, of Caruthersville; two sons, John Barnett, of Caruthersville, Mike Barnett of Malden, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Kristy, Carla, Stephanie, Kara, Tiffany, Cindy, Jon, Jennifer, Matt, Brad, and Lisa; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Estelee Carnathan and Bobbie Nell Blue of Birmingham, Ala., Johnnie Faye Sweeney, of Channel View, Texas., and Tressie Thigpen, of Mobile, Ala.
He was preceded in death by one son, James Larry Barnett; one brother, Cliff Barnett; and one sister, Myrt Goodwin.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Nazarene Church with Revs. Elmer J. Bruton, Billy H. Grigory and Greg Watkins officiating.
Burial was in the Little Prairie cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Ward, Earl Curtis, Michael David Reno, Bobby Ayers, Bill Quinn and Fearl Faulkner.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Hornersville Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Clinton officiating.

Goldie H. Borcherts, 84, of Arbyrd, Mo., died Sunday, February 24, 2002, at the Senath Nursing Center in Senath, Mo.
Born November 1, 1917, in Bucoda, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Alva Rush and Maggie Mae Yow Higgins.
On Jan. 4, 1958, she married
Bassel "Dutch" Borcherts, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Peggy Taylor Carnes of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Karen Diane Wagner and Katrina Marie Carnes.
She was preceded in death by five brother, Amos, Alvy Jay, Norman, Roy, and Hub Higgins; two sisters, May and Mathel.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Arbyrd First Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Cureton officiating.
Burial was in the McGrew cemetery at Senath, Mo.
Pallbearers were Neal Smith, Dwayne Petty, Welton Huggins, Rufus Brown, Ken Sikes and Max Higgins.

Edwin Glass Cope, 87, of Farmington, Mo., formerly of Hornersville, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the Mineral Area Medical Center in Farmington.
Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the United Methodist Church in Hornersville, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the United Methodist Church in Hornersville with Rev. Mike Hargroves officiating.

Glenna Naomi Donaldson, 74, of Hayti, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
Born May 19, 1927, in Hayti, Mo., daughter of the late Clarence and Bernice JamesGurlen. She was also preceded in death by her husband James Donaldson.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Donaldson of Hayti, Thomas Donaldson of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, James Gurlen of Tallahassee, Fla.., Mike Gurlen of Ft. Smith, Ark. and four grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Bradshaw-Osburn Fuenral Home in Hayti.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti.
