Chester Barker
Chester Barker, 84, of Malden, Mo., died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at his residence.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Susan Marner-Sides and Robert Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow at the Mt. Gilead cemetery in Calrkton, Mo.
Memorials may be made to the Malden United Methodist Church.
Minnie Brooks
Minnie Ava Brooks, 98, of Kennett, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at National Health Care in Kennett.
Born Jan. 11, 1904, in Kennett, she was the daughter of the late George and Hattie Gae Millhouse Tillman.
In 1920, she married
Lemmie L.F. Brooks, who preceded her in death on July 31, 1966. She was also preceded in death by three, brothers, Howard, Hudson and Charles Tillman and one sister, Irene Peel.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon Brooks, of Doniphan, Mo., and George Brooks, of Kennett; six grandchildren, Randy and Julie Brooks of Kennett, Carol Ketchum, of Kennett, Ava Barnes, of Arbyrd, Mo., Cheryl Lee, of Doniphan, and Margaret Moore, of Manila, Ark.; one sister, Mayme Ray, of Redwood City, Calif.; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. David Powell officiating.
Cynthia Collier
Cynthia G. Collier, 40, of Bernie, Mo., died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.
Born July 4, 1961, in Kennett, daughter of the late Grady Edward and Sybil Estell Nunnery Collier, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bernie.
Survivors include one daughter, Christina Collier, of Bristol, Tenn.; five brothers, Ron Collier, of Dexter, Mo., Gary Collier, of Sikeston, Steve Collier, of Bernie, Keith Collier, of Springfield, Mo. and Alan Collier, of Clarkton, Mo.; three sisters, Linda Snider, of Ballwin, Mo., Wanda Onderdonk, of North Little Rock, Ark., and Dianne Peterson, of Jacksonville, Ark.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Miller.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bob Wiggins and Karen Oldham officiating.
James Leathers
James E. Leathers, 80, of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Hospital, in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born Oct. 25, 1921, in Parma, Mo., son of the late Charles Earnest and Minnie Ethel Borders Leathers, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII and a member of the First Baptist Church in Malden.
On Nov. 2, 1940, in Malden, Mo., he married
Corean Unice McPherson, who preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 1993. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Marie Snider, and two brothers, Roy & Buddy Leathers.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Leathers and wife, Wanda, of LaBelle, Fla., Jerry Mack Leathers and wife, Joyce, of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Phyllis Gruchella and husband, Dan, of St. Louis, Mo., Sue Heid and husband, Marty, of Tampa, Fla., and Tammie Doyle and husband, Michael, of Yuma, Ariz.; one sister, Imogene Stewart, of Collierville, Tenn.; one brother, Dr. Charles Leathers, of Salem, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday, March 8, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Shoup officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.
Tommie Northington
Tommie Jean Northington, 73, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Denver, Colo.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10 at the First Presbyterian Church in Malden with the Rev. Bob Phillips officiating.
Landess Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
Chester Barker
Chester Barker, 84, of Malden, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at his residence.
Born Feb. 1, 1918, at Brookland, Ark., son of the late William and Millie Mosby Barker, he was an oil jobber with Barker Oil Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Barker was a member of the United Methodist Church of Malden.
On Sept. 4, 1937, at Malden, he married
Edith Butts, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Lindola Noe and husband, Dean, of Malden; three sons, Bill Barker and wife, Phyllis, of Florida, Carl Barker and wife, Nita, of Campbell, Mo. and Jeff Barker and wife, Debi, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one sister, Agnes Venard; seven grandchildren, Shane Noe of Florida, Kim Bartley and Dana Baker of Florida, Brent Barker of Glennonville, Mo. and Ben Barker of Poplar Bluff; six great-grandchildren, Matt and Logan Noe, Trey and Emily Bartley and Lane and Charity Barker.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Barker.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, March 10, at Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Revs. Susan Marner and Robert Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Gilead cemetery at Clarkton.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Malden.
John Bielanski
John Bielanski, 76, of Cardwell, Mo., died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at his residence.
Born Sept. 14, 1925, in Crivitz, Wisc., son of the late Vincent and Rosa Blasincka Bielanski, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include one brother, Edward Bielanski of Chicago, Ill. and one sister, Mary Pankey of Cardwell and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Casimir Bielanski and two sisters, Helen Geier and Emily Weglarz.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 9, at the Cardwell cemetery with Rev. Harold Dunbar officiating.
McDaniel Funeral Service of Senath was in charge of arrangements.
Dessie Darnell
Dessie Gray Darnell, 94, of Steele, Mo., died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems of Hayti, Mo.
Born Wednesday, Aug. 7, 1907, at Wildesville, Tenn., daughter of the late Gray and Bell Todd Douglass, she was a retired grocery clerk.
She married
Jim Darnell, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Bobby Darnell of Steele; a grandson, Keith Darnell of Steele; two granddaughters, Kathy Goodwin and Karen Brown of Olive Branch, Miss.; three great-grandsons, Jason Reams and Michael Reams of Nashville Ill. and Alex Brown of Olive Branch and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Brown of Olive Branch.
She was preceded in death by four sons, Kenneth, Joe Fred, Jim Jr. and Michael Darnell, as well as four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, March 10, at Bradshaw Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele, with the Revs. Jeremy Damesworth and Brent Pierce officiating.
Burial will follow in Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele.
Bobby Fisher
Bobby Gene Fisher, 54, of Dyersburg, Tenn., died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born Sunday, June 29, 1947, at Blytheville, Ark., son of the late Ted and Edna Beckett Fisher, he was a crop duster and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Fisher and his wife, Holly, of Dyersburg and Brandon Fisher of Cooter, Mo. and one granddaughter, Megan Fisher of Dyersburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Joe Fisher.
Funeral services are at 4 p.m. today, Sunday, March 10, at the Bradshaw Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele, Mo.
Burial will follow in the Eight cemetery at Cooter.
Mary Mayfield
Mary A. Mayfield, 78, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at her residence.
Born Jan. 17, 1924, in Gasden, Tenn., daughter of the late James C. and Lula Dunn Clark, she attended schools in Tennessee and was a Baptist.
Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Franklin Myers of Anderson, S.C., William Edward Myers and Clifford Allen Myers, both of Caruthersville; four daughters, Velma LeSieur, Roberta Fay Bolan and Linda Marie Nichols, all of Caruthersville and Sandra K. Hall, of Perryville, Mo., 33 grandchildren and 74 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Friday, March 8, in the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville, with Dr. James Adams officiating.
Burial was in the Maple cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Derek Myers, Terry Blagg, Daniel Mooney, Franklin Crocker, Michael McNees and Frederick Blagg.
Betty Barker
Betty Jo Barker, 72, of Kennett, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in Kennett.
Born March 4, 1930, in Rector, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Dan and Cora Eakins Shepard.
On Jan. 15, 1949, she married
Denver Lee Barker, who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1964. She was also preceded in death by one son, Ricky Barker; three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Ann Griffin and husband, Rick, of St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Danny Lee Barker and wife, Lesa, of Kennett, and Mickey Gale Barker and wife, Barbara, of Piggott, Ark.; one step-daughter, Vadalia Hampton, of West Memphis, Ark.; six grandchildren, Amy Berra, Brandon Davis, Jennifer and Leah Barker and Seth and Chase Hinkle; two step-grandchildren; two brothers, Leroy Shephard, of Tyler, Texas, and Billy Shephard, of Searcy, Ark. and two sisters, Mary Herren, of Piggott, Ark., and Shirley Dwyer, of St. Louis.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 12, at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with the Rev. Dale Rickman and Joe Payne officiating.
Burial was in the Mitchell cemetery at Greenway, Ark.
Pallbearers were Freddie Herren, Mike Herren, Dickie Smith, Sammy Crawford, Charles Smith and Jim McGee.
Dolores Callis
Dolores Nail Callis, 71, of Richardson, Texas, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at the Richardson Medical Center in Richardson.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Ely Baptist Church in Kennett with the Rev. Don Slatton officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
