Shirley Blair

Shirley Ann Blair, 60, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti, Mo.

Born March 31, 1941, in Hayti, daughter of the late Luther and Bertha M. Welch Wells, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include five sons, James, Terry, Billy, Bobby and Clint Blair all of Caruthersville, Mo.; four daughters, Laura Ann Blair, of Steele, Mo., Shiree Morgan, and Elizabeth Heathcock, both of Caruthersville and Tammy Esquevel, of California; one sister-in-law, Laura Ellen Houston, of Cottonwood Point, Mo.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 25, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Paul Quinn and Bill Quinn officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery.

Pallbearers were Frank Parry, Donald Heathcock, Shawn Rue, Thomas Bolan, Donald Rue and Chuck Cole.

Russell Corbin

Russell Lee Corbin, 87, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at the Oak Tree Villas in Jefferson City.

Born April 28, 1914, in Mincola, Mo., son of the late John W. and Rosa Lee Robbins Corbin, he was a member of the Elks Club and the Methodist Church of Sun City West, Ariz.

He was married to Fern Corbin, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Corbin, of Oswego, Ill.; four grandchildren, Rhonda, Karla, Jason and Stacey; one brother, John Corbin, of Las Vegas, Nev. and one sister, Opal Davenport, of Jefferson City.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, J.R. and Lennie Corbin.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville, Mo. with the Rev. Dwight Chapman officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jerry and Thomas J. Corbin, P.A. Red Prunty, William Kinder, Clyde Gundermuth and Jason Fitzpatrick.

Honorary pallbeares were Art Baker and John W. Corbin, Sr.

Jim Darnell

Jim Darnell, 98, of Steele, Mo., died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospita at Hayti, Mo.

Born Jan. 14, 1904, in Yuma, Tenn., son of the late Dolphus and Meddie Tilson Darnell, he was a farmer

He was married to Dessie Douglass, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include one son, Bobby Darnell, of Steele; one grandson, Keith Darnell, of Steele; two granddaughters, Kathy Goodwin, of Nashville, Ill., and Karen Brown, of Olive Branch, Miss., and four great-grandchildren, Jason and Michael Reams, both of Nashville, and Lauren and Alex Brown, both of Olive Branch.

He was preceded in death by four sons, Kenneth, Joe Fred, Jim Jr., and Michael Darnell and six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 25, at the Bradshaw Powell Funeral Home in Steele with the Rev. Jeremy Damesworth.

Burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele.

Jack DePriest

Jack Dawson DePriest, 77, of Dexter, Mo., died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Cypress Point Care Center in Dexter.

Born Feb. 4, 1925, in Truman, Ark., son of the late Greel Buel and Lucy Mae Ballard DePriest, he was of the Mormon faith.

On July 7, 1992, in Houston, Mo., he married Betty Jean Morrison, who preceded hom in death on Nov. 4, 2001.

Survivors include one brother, Clifford DePriest and wife, Marie, of Malden, Mo., and one sister, Mary Jean Perry and husband, Joe, of Bakersfield, Mo.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at the Woodlawn cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark. with the Rev. Jack Crawford officiating.

Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden is in charge of arrangements.

Audry Holifield

Audry Louise Holifield, 80, of Kennett, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born Nov. 25, 1921, in Campbell, Mo., daughter of the late George and Dessie Gargus, she was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles.

She was married to Odis Holifield, who preceded her in death on March 9, 1977.

Survivors include one son, Junior Holifield, of Kennett; two daughters, Wanda Holifield, of Dupo, Ill. and Vikkie Gipson, of Piggott, Ark.; one sister, Jean Nixon, of Kennett; four grandchildren, Shawna Stone, of Piggott, Derek Tune, of Kennett, Jeff Plunkett, of Columbia, Mo. and Lee Ann Chartran, of Dupo, and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Holifield; one brother, Harold Gargus and two sisters, Pearl Keating and Georgie Rush.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, at the the Bradshaw Home Chapel in Kennett.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.

Lura Hollingsworth

Lura Jean Hollingsworth, 71, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Jan. 24, 1931, in Paragould, Ark., daughter of the late Luther and Ethel Spence Dodson, she was employed by the Brown Shoe Company and was a member of the Kinfolkes Ridge Baptist Church.

On Dec. 8, 1946, she married Miles Amos Hollingsworth, who preceded her in death on July 18, 2000.

Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Zoellner, of Friendship, Tenn. and Donna Grogan, of Charleston, Mo.; two brothers; two sisters; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Kinfolkes Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Troy Alley officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery at Hayti, Mo.

Pallbearers were Rick Walker, J.D. Hudgens Jr., Terry Allen, James Simpson, Richard VanVickle and Mike Murrell.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville, Mo. was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Morrow

Harold Keith Morrow, 65, of Kennett, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Born May 4, 1936, in Bismark, N.D., son of the late Clinton and Lucille Worley Morrow, he was U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany, a truck driver for teamster, Emerson transpotation and a terminal manager and dispatcher for Jerry Lipps trucking. In 2001 he was elected to Independence Township Board.

On May 18, 1956, in Dexter, Mo., he married Joyce Holt, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two sons, Darin Morrow, and wife, Sara, of Holcomb, and Greg Morrow, of Wallapello, Mo.; four sisters, Joyce Arnold, of St. Helens, Mich., Dorothy Cantin, of Tidee Island, Ga., Wanda Hart, of Henderson, Ky. and Cindy Brown, of Mayfield, Ky.; three grandchildren, Haley and Cody Morrow, of Kennett and Chasity Burnett, of Dexter and two great-grandchildren, Britany and Devon Schaefer, of Dexter.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 26, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.

Burial was in the Hagy cemetery at Dexter, Mo.

Pallbearers were Chris Foulkes, Larry Killian, Joe Brumley, Tom Riley, Shawn Mathenia and Darrell Wheeler.

Arthur Prenger

Arthur Prenger, 80, of Glennonville, Mo., died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born June 12, 1912, in Jefferson City, Mo., he was a member of the St. Teresa church and a retired farmer.

He married Theresia Catherite Fuemmeler, in Glennonville, who preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 1962.

Survivors include four daughters, Kathleen West, of Malden, Mo., Mary Goggins, of Bowling Green, Ky., Martha Fortman, of Nakesville, Va. and Joanie Garcia, of Whittier, Calif.; four sons, Richard and Dennis Prenger, both of Campbell, Cletus Prenger, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Timothy Prenger of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Christine Pounder, of Memphis, Tenn; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, March 26, at the St. Teresa Church in Glennonville with Father Glenn Eftink officiating.

Burial was in the St. Teresa cemetery at Glennonville.

Clifford Skaggs

Clifford O'Neal Skaggs, 81, of Wardell, Mo., died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Born Dec. 13, 1920, in Hoxie, Ark., son of the late Charles Hubert and Anna Belle Smith Skaggs, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, a truck driver for General motors and a member of the Church of Christ in Wardell.

On Dec. 19, 1942, in Portageville, Mo., he married Gwendolyn Welch, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one daughter, Charolette Diane Dalton, O'Fallon, Mo.; two granddaughters, Tammie Stone, of St. Charles, Mo. and Melissa Nichols, of St. Peterson, Mo.; two great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn Stone, of St. Charles and Haley Nichols, of St. Peters; three sisters, Charlene Beck, of Birmingham, Ala., Billy Jean Martin and Shirley Beck, bothof Brentwood, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by one son, Clifford Skaggs Jr.; one brother, Garland Skaggs and one sister, Maxine Walker.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 26, at the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home in Wardell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at the Church of Christ in Wardell with Mr. Laddie Owens, Mr. Taft Ayers and Mr. Chris Dishman officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jack Benny Owens, Verlon Till, Jimmy Wallace, David Glisson, Gary Tucker and Douglas Riddick.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Doyle Miller, Matthew Ball, Terrance Miller, Joseph Griggs and Lee and Jason Glisson.
