Laura Tarkington

Laura Mae Tarkington, 90, of Gideon, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Southeast M issouri Hospial in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Nov. 27, 1911, in Morrilton, Ark., daughter of the late James Franklin and Hattie Hendrix Plunkett, she was a member of the United Church of God in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

On April 29, 1928, in Ada Ark., she married Wylie Tarkington, who preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1969. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Billie Jean Tarkington; three sons, Wylis Tarkington, Jr., Charles (Lefty) Tarkington and Larry Tarkington; two sisters, Julie and Hazel Plunkett and one brother, William Bean.

Survivors include three sons, James, Jerry and Kenneth Tarkington; four daughters, Wanda Hostetler, Jean Gifford, Sue Crane and Betty Garris; one brother, James Plunkett; one sister, Addie Brown; two half-brothers, Robert Bean and John Lott; two half-sisters, Martha Spain and Myrtle Bumpus; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchilden.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with David Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton.

Opal Whittington

Opal Kathryn Whittington, 86, of Qulin, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the Mark Twain Care Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born Dec. 26, 1915, in Malden, Mo., daughter of the late Guy E. and Cora Margaret Vancil Scott, she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Qulin.

On July 5, 1944, in Piggott, Ark., she married Eugene Whittington, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Louis "Bo" Scott and one sister, Christine Huber.

Survivors include one daughter, June Sue Johnson, of Piggott; two sisters, Lola Haynes, of Poplar Bluff and Jullean Crane, of Odessa, Texas; one brother, Ray Scott, of East Alton, Ill.; four grandchildren, Marty Seegraves, of Lubbock, Texas, Terry Seegraves, of Amarillo, Texas, Michelle Johnson, of Greenway, Ark. and Heather Johnson, of Piggott and a sister-in-law, Mildred Whittington, of Looking Glass, Ore.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Brown Chapel cemetery in Broseley, Mo. with the Rev. Gary Hancock officiating.

Bobby Lack

Bobby D. Lack, 69, of Campbell, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at his residence.

Born July 15, 1933, in Nimmons, Ark., son of the late Cecil and Morine Williams Lack, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Medical Corp, a farmer and a member of the Westwood Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

On July 30, 1955, in Wayne, Mich., he married Ella Barta, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one daughter, Karen Lemarr and husband, Kenny, of Malden, Mo.; three grandchildren, Andrew, Kelly and Kyle Lemarr, all of Malden; three sisters, Evelyn Williams, of Campbell, Gwen Rodery, of Pinkney, Mich. and Christine Parker, of Rector, Ark. and his mother-in-law, Ella Barta, of Chelsa, Mich.

He was preceded in death by one brother, J.W. Lack.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Proctor officiating.

Burial will follow at the Woodlawn cemetery-Landess Addition in Campbell.

Memorials may be made to the Westwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 2245 North Westwood Blvd., Poplar Bluff, Mo. 63901.

Myleta Austin

Myleta Dionne Austin, 37, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Kennett, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Methodist North in Memphis.

Born March 8, 1965, in Kennett, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Lela Mae Jefferson Fingers.

On March 9, 1986, she married Benjamin Austin who survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Aireka Austin of Memphis; a brother, Torree Stringer of Kennett and a sister, Renee Evans of San Diego, Calif.

Visitation is 1 p.m. today, Sunday, Sept. 15, in the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. today in the Bradshaw Chapel.

Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.

Herbert DeProw

Herbert Jackson "Stub" DeProw, 92, of Sikeston, Mo., formerly of Tallapoosa, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at Missouri Delta Hospital in Sikeston.

Born August 12, 1910, in Malden, Mo., a son of the late Mitchell and Molly Craig DeProw, he was a bricklayer and a member of the Pentecostal Church in Tallapoosa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On June 21, 1964, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., he married Estelle Alexander who preceded him in death Sept. 9, 1993.

Survivors include six sons, Cornel DeProw and his wife, Ruby, of Seymore, Tenn., Bob DeProw and his wife, Nora, of Malden, Jack DeProw and his wife, Dale, of Decatur, Mich., Jerry DeProw and Gary DeProw, both of Paw Paw, Mich. and Johnny DeProw and his wife, Lori, of Gobles, Mich. Four daughters, Corrine Sandlin of Park Forest, Ill., Ola Faye McBee and husband, Jim, of Crete, Ill., Jo Ann Blankenship of New Madrid, Mo., Teresa Rice and her husband, Dale, of Malden; one step-daughter, Martha Kirchhofer of Sikeston; 15 grandchildren, a step-grandson and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Bill DeProw and Joseph DeProw, five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. today, Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Bruce White officiating.

Burial in the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.

Emma Foster

Emma Marie Foster, 79, of Kennett, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett with the Rev. Bud Evans officiating.

Donna Harwell

Donna Louise Harwell, 55, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Born August 22, 1947, in Caruthersville, a daughter of the late Gene Allen and Vera Dinnell Harwell, she was employed by Brown Shoe Company and was a member of the Wesleyan Church of Caruthersville.

Survivors include a son, Jason Harwell of Pocahontas, Ark., a daughter, Valarie Cleveland and her husband, Doug, of Chester, S.C.; two sisters, Shelby Lee and Debby Hunt, both of Caruthersville; two grandchildren; Jaime and Savana Cleveland; a special friend, church Oatsvall of Caruthersville.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.

Burial was in Little Prairie cemetery.

Pallbearers were Shannon Wallace, Charlie Oatsvall, John Abbott, Billy Underwood, Jeffrey T. Oatsvall and Roy Neal Jones.

Cleddis Huffman

Cleddis Huffman, 80, of Morehouse, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at the Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston, Mo.

Born Sept. 23, 1921, in Senath, Mo., a son of the late Martin H. and Maudie M. Goldsmith Huffman, he was a contract driver for the U.S. Postal Service. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

On March 29, 1952, in Piggott, Ark., he married Wilma Brown who survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Darrell Huffman of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Ricky Huffman of Bloomfield,Mo.; two daughters, Karla Huffman of Bell City, Mo. and Patricia Quiroz of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, Sept. 15, at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Morehouse.

Graveside services are 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at Garden of Memories cemetery in Sikeston with the Rev. W.H. Worth officiating.

Elvie Milligan

Elvie Irene Milligan, 69, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at her home.

Born May 8, 1933 in Mountain View, Ark., a daughter of the late Newton and Ruthie Ballentine Diffey, she worked for Brown Shoe Company and was a member of the Ely Baptist Church in Kennett.

On Dec. 9, 1960, in Braggadocio, Mo., she married Logan L. "Son" Milligan, who preceded her in death July 7, 1989.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Peggy Murphy of Brinkley, Ark.; two sisters, Lorene Jackson of Hayti, Mo. and Edna Hicks of Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville, with the Rev John Keel officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery.

Pallbearers were Malcolm Hicks, Dustin Cutler, Larry Cutler Jr., Paul Hicks, Rodney Hargrove and Luther Jackson.

Herschel Ayers

Herschel Edward Ayers, 78, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis, Tenn.

Born July 16, 1924, in Bassett, Ark., son of the late Harley Roy and Jennie Vera Spencer Ayers, he was U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII, employed at Brown Shoe Company and a member of the Assembly of God Church in Caruthersville.

On June 21, 1947, in Caruthersville, he married Mary L. Prince, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include three sons, Herschel Edward Ayers, Jr. and Bobby Keith and Stephen Paul Ayers, all of Caruthersville; three daughters, Linda Jean Reno and Mary Sue Hilburn, both of Caruthersville and Cynthia Jane Short, of Louisiana; one brother, Harley Ayers, of Florida; one sister, JoAnn Roberts, of Lexington, Tenn.; 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

He was prececded in death by two children; one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Larry Griffin officiating.

Burial was in the Little Prairie cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael David Reno, Chris Bullington, Robert Guest, Dr. Doug McKillip, Tommy Halford and Howard Kirby.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.

Scottie Barnett

Scottie S. Barnett, 44, of Wappapello, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden, Mo.
