Nora Hovis
Nora Louella Hovis, 98, of Paragould, Ark., formerly of Corning, Ark., died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at her residence.
Born Sept. 28, 1904, in Byrds Town, Tenn., daughter of the late Porter and Lucy Spears Sells, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
On Oct. 24, 1922, in Success, Ark., she married
Eli Hovis, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mildred Weaver; three sisters, Nova Reese, Carrie Silverberg and Pearl Trout and three brothers, Wesley, Roy and Hurley Sells.
Survivors include three sons, Jess Hovis, of Kennett, Bill Hovis, of Houston, Texas and Robert Hovis, of Paragould; one daughter, Virginia Merle West, of Paragould; one sister, Truley Skaggs, of Winston, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Ermert Funeral Home in Corning.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating.
Burial will follow at the Corning cemetery.
Pallbearers are Steve, Michael and Jim Hovis, Steve and Dale May and Edgar Parrish.
Honorary pallbearers are Dick and Stan Hovis.
Arnold Matthews
Arnold Franklin Matthews, 79, of Malden, Mo., died tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at his residence.
Born July 14, 1923, in Enola, Ark., son of the late William Franklin and Lela Cardin Matthews, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWIII, a farmer/landgrader and a member of the Church of Christ in Malden.
On Oct. 8, 1943, he married
Carrie Louella Flowers, who sruvives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, John Matthews and wife, Linda, of Malden; one daughter, Patty Frazier and husband, Stan; one sister, Flora Flowers, of Modesto, Calif.; four grandchildren, Arnold Clark Matthews, of Bartlett, Tenn., Cathy Sisk, of Lemoorre, Calif., Matthew Frazier, of Creve Coeur, Mo. and Mark Frazier, of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and three great-grandchildren, Layton Lovell and Aiden Sisk, both of Lemoore and Ezra Matthews, of Bartlett.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy A. Matthews; one brother, Will Matthews and six sisters, Gladys Griffin, Grace Palmer, Eva Bowie, Fannie Newkirk, Cora Adams and Ava Nell Weaver.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Church of Christ in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Church of Christ with David McElwain officiating.
Burial with military rites will follow at the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.
Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden is in charge of arrangements.
Pearly Prince
Pearly Marie Prince, 90, of Jackson, Mo., formerly of Kennett, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born July 21, 1912, in East Burnstadt, Ky., she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Margret Copland McNew.
On July 4, 1932, in Kennett, she married
Le Roy Prince, who preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1965. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Walter, Roy and Georgie McNew and two sisters, Alla Mae Liticker and Gracie McNew.
Survivors include three sons, Johnny Franklin Prince, of Jackson, Jerry Don Prince, of Mobile, Ala. and Bobby Gene Prince, of Crystal City, Mo.; three daughters, Ethel LaVon Jackson, of Kennett, Barbara Chambliss, of Jackson and Eva Foster, of Joliet, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 13, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 13, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles James officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Mike and Earl Foster, Bobby and Clint Prince, Laddie Hostalek and Ray North.
Maggie Wylie
Maggie Wylie, 93, of Bagg City, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at National Health Care in Kennett.
Born Aug. 10, 1909, in Ardmore, Okla., she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Bertha Wise Loveless.
On Jan. 1, 1933, she married
J.M. "Coy" Wylie, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Glenda Wylie, of Spring, Texas; a son-in-law, Tony Pippen, of Ada, Okla; one granddaughter, Tanya Stevens, of Bentonville, Ark. and one great-grandchild, Nickie Stevens, of Bentonville.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Pippen; one brother, Renzo Loveless and two sisters, Floyd Loveless and Earline McGough.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 13, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with James Powell officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Tommy Sisson, Jimmie and Larry Strother, Bill Blankenship, Jeff Wade and Joey Clark.
Larry Bodkin
Larry Bodkin, 61, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 14, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Mayes officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Jonathan Bryant
Jonathan Scott Bryant, 32, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at Murray, Ky.
Born Jan. 25, 1971, in Caruthersville, son of Dr. William O. Bryant and Geneva Mae Riggs Bryant, both of Hayti, Mo., he was a software designer and teacher at Murray State University. He attended the Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church.
On June 5, 1993, in Hayti, he married
Laura Jean James, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Geneva Katherine Bryant, of Caruthersville; one son, Jonathan Reagan Bryant, of Caruthersville; seven sisters, Stephanie Jane Bryant, of Memphis, Tenn., Margie Holland and Whitney Bryant, both of Fort Myers, Fla., Susan Lockwood, of Flaggstaff, Ariz., Kitty Britton, of Danville, Ind. and Rachel Webb and Rebekah Bryant, both of Caruthersville and one brother, Don Steven Moore, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dwight Chapman officiating.
Burial was in the Maple cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tom Collins, John Dean, Byron A. Luber, Stephend Gaal and Jerry W., Gayle D., Chris and John M. Riggs.

Harold Ganus
Harold Ganus, 53, of Steele, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Denton, Mo.
Born March 17, 1949, in Etowah, Ark., son of the late Marcus Dee and Cleo Marie Russell Ganus, he was a preacher, a carpenter and of the Holiness faith.
On Aug. 21, 1970, in Tyler, Mo., he married
Cathy D. Thompson, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two daughters, Wanda Annette Stubbs and husband, Bill and Jennifer Diane Cantrell and husband, DeShawn, all of Prim, Ark.; one son, Stephen Harold Ganus and wife, Valerie, of Prim; five brothers, Gerald Ganus, of Cooter, Carol, Carl and Tracy Ganus, all of Steele and Curtis Ganus, of Marston, Mo.; seven sisters, Christine Ganus, of Batesville, Ark., Olene Reynolds, of Cave City, Ark., Priscilla Riley, of Marion, Ark., Gertrude Britt, of Steele, Marie Hawkins, of Gosnell, Ark., Mary Webb, of Blytheville, Ark. and Retha Goff, of Clarkton, Mo. and four grandchildren, Whitney Diane and Brooklyn Dawn Cantrell, Caleb Stubbs and Julie Darlene Ganus.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Ganus and one sister, Lorene Ganus Jackson.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, Feb. 14, at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home in Steele with the Revs. Dennis Knapp and Raymond Freeman officiating.
Burial was in the Everett Ridge cemetery at Prim.
Agness Cora
Agness Irene Cora, 89, of St. Charles, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at NHC Healthcare in St. Charles.
Born Saturday, Sept. 27, 1913, in Doniphan, Mo., a daughter of the late Joseph Siegler and Clara Brooks Siegler, she was a homemaker and member of Simpson Creek Baptist Church in Doniphan.
She married
Emery Whittington who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Leon Whittington and wife, Emma, of Van Wert, Ohio and Jackie Whittington and wife, Wanda, of Cooter, Mo.; one daughter, Flora Bosworth and husband, Paul, of St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Johnny Siegler of Doniphan and a sister, Vernell Travis of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today, Sunday, Feb. 16, at Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele, Mo. with the Rev. Gary Andrews, Sr. officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele.
Larry Bodkin
Larry Bodkin, 61, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born Sept. 2, 1941, in Piggott, Ark., he was a son of the late Willard Thomas Bodkin and the late Rachel Capps Bodkin Ethridge.
Other survivors include a son, Larry Matthew Bodkin of Kennett; a daughter, Paula Hooper and husband, Tom, of Kennett; their mother, Alice Bodkin of Kennett; an aunt, Mavis Henson of Bragg City and two uncles, Millard Dick Bodkin of Doniphan, Mo. and Dizer Capps of Caruthersville, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Gary Mayes officiating.
Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were David Inman, Aaron Waynick, Matt Cohn, Sonny Bolin, Tyson Gooch Waylong Hatch, David Nail and Chris Sledge.
Honorary pallbearers were BillInman, Ron Pickens, Lynn Poe, Hubert Snipes, Larry Poe, Gerald Horton, Harold Woodard, J.R. Holsten, Paul Harkey, Tommy Price, Jim McElwrath and Doyle Ward.
Linda Gurley
Linda F. Gurley, 55, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at her residence.
Born June 6, 1947, in Hayti, Mo., a daughter of the late Carel Luten and Lillie Wagner Hudgins, she attended Pemiscot County R-3 schools and the Wesleyan Church in Caruthersville.
Survivors include two daughters, Tanna Abbott of Caruthersville and Crystal Gurley of Springfield, Mo., one sister, Helen Higginbotham of Seminole, Fla.; three brothers, Carel L. Hudgins, Jr. and Gene Hudgins of Caruthersville and Jerry Hudgins and one grandson, J.P. Patillo of Caruthersville.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.
Burial was in the Little Prairie cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Ray Gurley, Jeff abbott, Justin Sides, Dewayne McCall, Jerry Gurley and Milburn McCall.
