Truman Cole, Jr.

Truman R. Cole, Jr., 82, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Pascola, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Aug. 28, 1920, in Greenfield, Ill., son of the late Truman R. and Beatrice Tigirt Cole, he was a WWII veteran serving in the Merchant Marines. He was involved in diversified farming and the puebred Angus business and was owner of Copi-Rite, Inc. in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include three sons, Truman R. Cole III, of North Caldwell, N.J., Mason Cole, of Portland Ore. and Morry Cole, of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Elizabeth Pfalmer, of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Wesley Cole, of Pascola and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Stetson.

Graveside services were held Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Woodlawn cemetery in Hayti, Mo. with Dr. Paul Currie officiating.

Memorial services were held Monday, Feb. 17, at the St. Andrew Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Short officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Truman R. Cole, Jr. St. Jude Memorial Fund, 1526 Independence, Cape Giarrdeau, Mo. 63701.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.

William Faris

William Hall Faris, 52, of Hayti, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at his residence.

Born Jan. 13, 1951, in Braggadocio, Mo., son of Charles Albert and Betty Ann Hall Faris, both of Braggadocio, he was engaged in farm chemical sales. He was a member of Gideons International, involved in Heartland Singles Ministry and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville, Mo.

Survivors also include one son, Charles A. Faris, II, of Jackson, Mo.; one daughter, Mary Catherine Faris, of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Charla Whitaker, of Blytheville, Ark.; one nephew and two nieces.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Dr. James Adams, Rev. Mike Ault, Rev. John Earl Dunavant and Rev. Dave Lewelling officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul Maclin, Troma Jones, Bobby Irons, Danny Bradsher, Gary Coppage, Bill Wallace and Victor Sample.

Ival Frederick

Ival Ray Frederick, 71, of Kennett, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at his residence.

Born Oct. 6, 1931, in Nimmons, Ark., son of the late Benjamin Jack and Myrtle Minnie Simms Frederick, he was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving in Korea.

He married Leona Cox, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Frederick Pippin and Bonnie Beck.

Survivors include three sons, Ray Frederick and Jess Phelps, both of Eufaula, Okla. and Mark Frederick, of Arbyrd, Mo.; one daughter, Lynn Klopfenstein, of Sebring, Fla.; two brothers, Louis Frederick, of Kingsford Heights, Ind. and Sam Frederick, of Calipatria, Calif. and four grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at the Reddick cemetery in Rector, Ark.

Pallbearers were family members.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.

Hubert Galbraith, Sr.

Hubert Howard Galbraith, Sr., 74, of Steele, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Born March 11, 1928, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., son of the late Otis Howrd and Alma Johnson Galbraith, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from Borg-Warner.

He married Ethel Underwood, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 30, 1986, he married Nancy Sue Brewer, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two sons, Hubert Galbraith, Jr. and Johnny Galbraith, both of Steele; six daughters, Louise Pritchett, of Rives, Mo., Brenda Long, of Holland, Mo. and Linda Mosier, Lisa Woody, Glenda Pounds and Teresa Middleton, all of Steele; three brothers, Charles Galbraith, of Kennett, Bob Galbraith, of Florida and David Galbraith, of Arizona; 22 grandchildrren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Junior Galbraith and one sister, Betty Crawford.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with John Mundy officiating.

Burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele.

Carl Kendrick

Carl Ray "Doc" Kendrick, 66, of Holcomb, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at his residence.

Born June 22, 1936, in Atkins, Ark., son of the late Hershell and Bertie Marie Maxwell Kendrick, he was member of the Tatum Chapel Baptist Church in Peach Orchard, Mo., where he served as a deacon for over 30 years.

On Sept. 11, 1954, in Dexter, Mo., he married Maxine Marie Newsom, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two sons, Carl "Bud" Kendrick and wife, Annie, of Paragould, Ark. and David Kendrick and wife, Debbie, of Malden, Mo.; one daughter, Donna Moore and husband, Eddy, of Gideon, Mo.; two brothers, Rev. Charles Kendrick and wife, Vivian, of Dallas, Texas and Edward Kendrick and wife, Barb, of Eldon, Mo.; one sister, Ella Mae McAllister and husband, Arthur, of Malden; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Sue Dickens.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Tatum Chapel Baptist Church in Peach Orchard with the Revs. Jerry Williams and Charles Kendrick officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Bradshaw Fiuneral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.

Barry McKay

Barry McKay, 51, of Hayti, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hosptial in Hayti.

Born Jan. 15, 1952, in Hayti, son of the late Chief Fred M. "Fritz"McKay and Peggy Reed Johnson, he was Hayti City Marshall and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hayti. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Caruthersville, Mo. and had an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.

On Sept. 19, 1971, in Springfield, Mo., he married Nickey Hines, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include three daughters, Corbett McKay, of Caruthersville and Whitney and Ashley McKay, both of Hayti; one son, Kadon McKay, of Hayti; one grandchild, Macen McKay, of Hayti, his mother-in-law, Myrna Bain, of Hayti and one half-brother, Brett Johnson, of Springfield.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the First Baptist Church in Hayti with Dr. Mike Melton and Michael Hazel officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery at Hayti with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department giving full honors.

Pallbearers were members of the Hayti Police Department.

John W. Geman Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.

Jeremy Payne

Jeremy Payne, 17, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Malden.

Funeral arrrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden.

Donna Poole

Donna Poole, 60, of Kennett, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett.

Wilma Sills

Wilma Jean Smart Sills, 58, of Ardmore, Okla., formerly of Malden and Gideon, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at her residence.

Born April 18, 1944, in Gideon, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Willie Audrey Crawford Smart.

On March 3, 1962, in Gideon, she married Elbert Lee Sills, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two daughters, Debbie Goings and husband, Rick, of Gideon and Rebecca K. McNeal, of Oklahoma city, Okla.; five brothres, Eddie Smart, of Clarkton, Mo., Tommy Smart, of Gideon, Willie Smart, of Davenport, Iowa, Jerry Smart, of Oklahoma City and Ned Smart, of Arkansas; three sisters, Fredia Pardon, of Gideon, Ruby White, of Malden and Dolly Modglin, of New Haven, Mo.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wendell and Billy Smart and one sister, Joy Smith.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Gideon.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Portwood officiating.

Bob Wilburn

Bob Wilburn, 61, of Malden, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the Gideon Care Center in Gideon, Mo.

Born Aug. 1, 1941, in Holcomb, Mo., son of the late Harry and Thelma Wasson Wilburn, he was a mechanic and engineer for the Malden Fire Department and attended the Spoonerville Baptist Church in Malden.

On July 25, 1964, in Campbell, Mo., he married Wanda LaMunion, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include three brothers, Allen Wilburn and wife, Nellie, of St. Louis, Mo., Darrell Wilburn and wife, Brenda, of Campbell and Connie Wilburn and wife, Donna, of Columbia City, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Wilburn, of St. Louis and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Bryon Wilburn.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Blagg and Pastor Earl D. Dell officiating.

Burial will follow at the Elder cemetery in Campbell.

Michael Wright

Michael Jaye Wright, 24, of Kennett, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at his residence.

Born Dec. 10, 1978, in Kennett, son of Michael D. Wright, of Piggott, Ark. and Brenda S. Howton Wright, of East Prairie, Mo., he as a cook at a fast food restaurant.

Survivors include one son, Kaliv Higgins, of Piggott, Ark.; one sister, Nancy Wright, of Senath, Mo.; one brother, Cody Wright, of Piggott; paternal grandmother, Mollie Cross, of Kennett and maternal grandparents, J.W. and Irene Howton, of East Prairie and companion, Brenda Finney, of Kennett.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett with the Rev. Earl Fisher officiating.
