Ernest Harper

Ernest Franklin Harper, 85, of Crossett, Ark., died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at the Leisure Lodge.

Born June 14, 1916, in Wynne, Ark., son of the late T.G. and Willie Kate Parker Harper, he was former plant manager of Ely and Walker Shirt Factory in Kennett, a member of the E&W Softball Team, and a member of the First Assembly of God in Crossett, where he served as a deacon and choir member.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Harper, of Crossett; one son, Ernest F. Harper, Jr., of Columbus, Miss.; two daughters, Kay Duncan, of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Jan Rice, of Collierville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the First Assembly of God in Crossett with the Rev. Norman Riordan officiating.

Burial services will follow at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.

Jones Funeral Home of Crossett was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Hogeland

Mary Ruth Hogeland, 60, of Malden, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Mo.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Paul Starnes and Roger Fowler officiating.

Burial will follow at the Elder cemetery in Campbell, Mo.

Ruth Meadows

Ruth B. Meadows, 86, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born May 26, 1915, in rural Dunklin County, daughter of the late J.I. and Lilly Marker Burlison, she taught school at Wardell, Holcomb and Braggadocio, Mo., was active in the PTA, served two terms as president of Washington School PTA and two terms as president of District Council of PTA, worked for the Department of the Navy and was active in the WMU and Sunday School class at the First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She worked at Landgraf Lumber Co., was employed by the Missouri Department of Liquor Control, appointed Cape Girardeau County treasurer by Gov. Warren Hearnes, serving from 1970 to 1972 and was a field auditor for the state auditor from 1975-1978. She was active in the Democratic Party in Cape Girardeau County, served many years as Ward 4 committeewoman. She was a longtime member of the Eastern Star, Tuesday Club (MFWC) and Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary.

On April 28, 1941, she married Claude E. Meadows,Jr., in Cape Girardeau, who preceded her in death on May 18, 1969. She was also preceded in death by one brother.

Survivors include one son, Ed Meadows, of Jackson, Mo.; one brother, Bill Burlison, of Odenton, Md. and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jay White officiating.

Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett with the Rev. Griff Walker officiating.

Annette Mixon

Annette Mixon, 66, of Kennett, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born Sept. 26, 1935, in Hermondale, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Edna A. Hurt.

She married Harold Mixon, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded her in death by one son, Tommy Mixon.

Survivors include one daughter, Shelia Sample, of Kennett and one grandson, Aaron Sample, of Kennett.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Ervin and Michael Mixon, Donnie and Bill Crawford, Kevin Scott and Manuel Banks.

Honorary pallbearers were Willie Jay, Timmy and Johnny Mixon and Roger Cooper.

Donnie Morris

Donnie Gene Morris, 48, of Camdenton, Mo., formerly of Kennett, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Camdenton.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett.

Kelly Owens

Kelly Owens, 66, of Kennett, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, in Kennett.

Born March 15, 1935, in Greer, Mo., son of the late G.R. and Pearl Dodson Owens, he graduated from Alton High School and attended Hannibal-LaGrange College and Southwest Missouri State University. For 44 years he was in the grocery business with his brother-in-law, Larry Wallace, before retiring in1999. He served a brief period in the United States Army and he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.

On Dec. 10, 1955, he married Annabel Dorris, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one son, Brett and wife, Debbie, of West Plains, Mo.; one daughter, Jill and husband, Brian, of Jackson, Tenn.; four sisters, Lorene Cobb and husband, Robert, of Shawnee, Kan., Davene Jaeger and husband, Herb, of Allendale, N.J., Anna Jean Altizer and husband, Verlin, of Abingdon, Va. and Mildred Wallace and husband, Larry, of Alton, Mo.; two brothers, Richard and his wife, Sarah, of Elizabeth, Ark. and Jon and his wife, Lorna, of Albany, Ore.; four grandchildren, Seth, Nathan and Kelsie Owens and Madison Schaffer and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by an infant sister.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Graveside services will be held at Hickory Grove cemetery near Alton with the Rev. Paul Lanning officiating.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to VNA Hospice, 100 Harrison St., Kennett, Mo., 63857.

Cleo Pattillo

Cleo Pattillo, 85, of Gideon, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at John J. Pershing VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born May 3, 1916, in Portageville, Mo., son of the late Ira and Lilie Deashment Pattillo he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII, a member of the Order of Eastern Star & Masonic Lodge in Clarkton and served as alderman and mayor pro-tem in Gideon. He attended the Jericho General Baptist Church in Gideon.

On April 10, 1965, in Gideon, he married Verna Lee Shaw, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two daughters, Betty Jo Deen, of Campbell, Mo. and Carolyn Crowell, of Troy, Mo.; one son, Jerry Cleo Pattillo, of Orlando, Fla; one step-daughter, Norma Hooser, of Ash Flat, Ark.; 26 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Larry Don and Roger Dale Pattillo and Bob Little; one grandson, Sammy Sturgeon; one brother, Buck Pattillo and one sister, Elgie Harris.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden, Mo. with Revs. Chuck Pipkins and Earnest Pickett officiating.

Burial with military rites was held in the Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Pete Small

Pete Small, 83, of Senath, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at the Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson, Texas.

Born Aug. 20, 1918, in Darden, Tenn., he was the son of the late Ollie Homer and Leya Woods Small.

On April 7, 1940, in Kennett, he married Pauline Barnett, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one son, Tommy Small, of Liberty, Texas; two daughters, Lisa Vanetta, of Houston, Texas and Linda Harvill, of Senath; five brothers, Kenney, Ross and Homer Small, all of McAllen, Texas, Jess Small, of Senath and Bill Small, of Georgia; one sister, June Harris, of Mississippi; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath with Revs. Brent Pierce and Denver Glenn officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Jess, Bill, Byron, Joe and Chris Small and Billy Ray Harris.

Annie Swinford

Annie Northannie Swinford, 79, of Tallapoosa, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at her residence.

Born Dec. 27, 1921, in Russellville, Ark., daughter of the late William McKinley and Ila Whitfield Carter, she was a member of the Oneness Pentecostal Church in Tallapoosa.

On Feb. 19, 1946, in Lepanto, Ark., she married Lum Swinford, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one daughter, Sue Miller and husband, Charlie, of Sikeston, Mo.; two grandchildren, Pam and Craig Gordon, both of Sikeston; three sisters, Christine Swinford and Grace Redding, both of Malden, Mo. and Ruby Fulks, of Peoria, Ill. and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Milton Carter and one sister, Margaret Jeffords.

Visitation will be held at 6:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dewayne White officiating.

Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.

Perryline Uhles

Perryline Uhles, 95, of Malden, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Three Rivers North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born March 16, 1906, in Desha, Ark., daughter of late William Perry and Lillie Bell Brock Harmon, she was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church in Malden.

On Jan. 19, 1924, in Desha, Ark., she married William Henry Uhles, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1982.

Survivors include one daughter, Glendola Hodges and husband, Gains, of Bernie, Mo.; two granddaughters, Henrietta Austin, of Bell City, Mo. and Wanda Sparks, of Malden; four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Perry Hiddleson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.

Ella Usery

Ella Usery, 85, of Kennett, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at National HealthCare in Kennett.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett.
