Hallie Odom
Hallie Mae Odom, 93, of Hayti, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Pemiscot Nursing Home in Hayti.
Born Monday, Feb. 14, 1910 in Hathaway, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Dora Smith Turner. She worked as waitress and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hayti.
On Sept. 6, 1924 in Mississippi County, Ark., she married
Homer Lee Odom, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Carl Odom, two daughters, Glenda Louise Odom and Lavinia Douglas McGill.
She is survived by three sons, Homer Alexander Odom, of Jackson, Tenn., Jerry Wayne Odom, of Bonne Terra, Mo., Charles Donald Odom, of Kennett; three daughters, Dorothy Mae McClain, of Covington, Tenn., Marilyn Blanche Oliver, of Lexington, Ky. and Juanita Joyce Tanner of Wardell, Mo; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 21, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Hayti.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Hayti First Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Melton and Griff Walker officiating.
Burial will be in the Maple cemetery in Caruthersville, Mo.
Fred Osmer
Fred Osmer, 80, of Clarkton, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born Nov. 19, 1922, in Armorel, Ark., he was the son of the late Willie and Girley Downing Osmer.
On April 26, 1958, in Hernando, Miss. he married
Peggy Harris, who survives of the home.
Other survivers include one son, Tim Osmer and his wife, Gina, of Kennett; one daughter, Karen Payne and her husband, Jerry, of Northville, Mich.; one brother, Bob Osmer of Imperial, Mo.; three sisters, Meryl Whitaker of Campbell, Mo., Shirley Jacques of Ogden, Iowa and Helen Crain of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, Feb. 21, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Matthew Poole, Terry Don Weaver, Daniel Vancil, Rick Ward, Dwight and Keith Emmons and John (Chico) Alsup. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Masterson, Joe Lewellyng, Jackie Burden, Darrell Wheeler, George Shearer, Donald Weaver and Glen Harris.
Bernice Rowland
Bernice Rowland, 76, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, at National Health Care in Kennett.
Born Oct. 26, 1926, in Pascola, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Claude and Bertha Creech Hampton. She was a member of Abiding Peace Chapel Church.
On Feb. 7, 1945, in Blytheville, Ark., she married
James O. Rowland, who preceded her in death on March 3, 2002.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Lee Hampton, and three sisters, Geraldine "Gerry" Joyner, Helen Hampton and Ruth Imogene Hampton.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Birmingham, and her husband, Ron, of Hayti, Mo. and Myra Baker and her husband, Randy, of Kennett; two brothers, Larry Hampton and his wife, Carolyn, of Hayti and Willie Hampton of French Village, Mo; four grandchildren, Nathan Baker, Mileah Baker, Keith Birmingham and Sherry Palmer and one great-grandchild, Madison Palmer.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 21, at Abiding Peace Temple Church in Kennett with the Revs. Dennis Collins and Don Slatton officiation.
Burial followed in Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Nathan Baker, Keith Birmingham, Larry Palmer and Hubert and Eric Snipes.
Marie Horton
Marie Horton, 82, of Stillman Valley, Mich., formerly of Rector, Ark., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, at her residence.
Born April 12, 1920, in Hornersville, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Darcy Orton and Inez McIntosh Faries.
She married
Herschel Horton who preceded her in death May 18, 1995. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Donald, Jerry J. and Ricky Allen Horton and two brothers, Fred and Highlee Faries.
Survivors include two sons, Freddie Horton of Cabot, Ark. and Victor L. Horton of Fort Riley, Kan.; two daughters, Lynda Goike and Lana Faulk, both of Rockford, Ill.; one brother, Clyde Faries of Bonne Terre, Mo.; one sister, Helen Myracle of Jackson, Mo.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Kenny Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Garden cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Harley Watson, E.B. Ashbranner, Bill Ward, Lindel Midcalf, Randy Wilburn and H.E. George. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry, Steve, Johnny, Dennis, Joe and DeVaughn Horton.
Cleo Hubbard
Cleo Ruth Hubbard, 78, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at her home.
Born July 6, 1924, in Micola, Mo., daughter of the late Melvin Lawson and Ethel Ruth Holdman McClendon, she was a graduate of Caruthersville High School and the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Springfield, Mo. She was a retired nurse, a hospice volunteer with VNA, and member of the B&PW Club, SEMO Club and First Baptist Church in Caruthersville.
On June 14, 1945, in New Orleans, La., she married
Jack Wilson Hubbard who preceded her in death March 1. 1994.
Survivors include one son, Jack W. Hubbard and wife, Pat, of Caruthersville; one daughter, Susan C. Haymes and husband, Wayne, of Fenton, MO.; one brother, Billy McClendon and wife, Marceline, of Doniphan, Mo.; one sister, Elizabeth Kindred of Shreveport, La.; two grandsons, Wilson Conrad and Ross Alan Hubbard, both of Caruthersville; and one great-granddaughter, Adeline Elizabeth Hubbard of Caruthersville.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with Dr. James Adams officiating.
Burial was in Pemiscot Memorial Gardens cemetery in Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were mark Hollis, Roger Watkins, Keith Robertson, Bobby Clark, Milburn McCall and Cleve McClendon.
Fannie Noah
Fannie Nell "Bittie" Noah, 84, of Kennett, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at National Health Care of Kennett.
Born June 3, 1918, at Arbyrd, Mo., she was a daughter of the late George T. and Susan Ava Blount McDonald.
On Dec. 21, 1934, she married
Fred E. Noah who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1992. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Wayne Pierce, Carlon, Raymond and Glennon McDonald and three sisters, Reba Moxley, Opal Farmer and Marie Jackson.
Survivors include two sons, Tom E. Noah of Kennett and Larry G. Noah of Harrisburg, Ill; three daughters Sue Jones of Anderson, Ind., Janice Noah and Kathy Noah Jeffress, both of Kennett; eight grandchildren, Rhonda Tinnin Fields of Anderson, Ind., Derek R. Tinnin of Ohio, Amy Noah Questelle of Marion, Ill, Ginger Noah of New Orleans, La, Todd E. Noah of Springfield, Mo., Jonie Noah Wake, Jill K. and Julie K. Jeffress all of Kennett; and eight great-grandchildren, Molly, Boston, Meg Fields of Anderson, Taylor and Braden Noah Tinnin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Corbin, Karley and Bailey Kate Noah of Springfield.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Emerson Street Church of God in Kennett with the Rev. Ben Jordan officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett, with arrangements under director of McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett.
Her eight grandchildren served as pallbearers.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Emerson Street Church of God.
Jeremy Payne
Jeremy Delance Payne, 17, of Malden, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in Malden.
Born Feb. 23, 1985, in St. Genevieve, Mo., a son of Otis Lee Ford, Jr. of Orlando, Fla. and Diane Payne Robinson of Malden, he was a junior at Malden High School and attended Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Diane Robinson and Dennis Shurn of Malden; his father and stepmother, Otis Lee Jr. and Linda Ford of Orlando; three sisters Otecia L. Payne of Malden, Shareeka and Quinisha Ford, both of Avon Park, Fla.; three brothers, Quentin C. Payne of Malden, Otis Ford III and O'darius Ford, both of Orlando; two grandmothers, Annie Murl Clayton of Malden and Christine Moore of Avon Park and one grandfather, Otis Ford Sr. of St. Louis.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden until time of service at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Gene Perkins officiating.
Burial will be in Macedonia cemetery in Malden.
Pallbearers will be aunts and uncles.
Clifford Cossey
Clifford Cossey, 61, of Jackson, Mo., formerly of Kennett, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at the Southeast Missouri Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Zack Strong officiating.
Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.
Bill Cowgill
Carl Avery "Bill" Cowgill, 80, of Kennett, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born Oct. 14, 1922, in Rector, Ark., son of the late Leroy and Celesty Violena Nelson Cowgill, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII, a carpenter and of the Missionary Baptist faith.
On Sept. 5, 1944, he married
Mildred Florence Hardy, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three sons, Bobby, Jerry and John Cowgill, all of Kennett; two daughters, Jenellie F. Yarber, of Jonesboro and Elaine J. Cowgill, of Kennett; one brother, Gerald Cowgill, of Kennett; 29 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Carl Wilbert and Billy Cowgill; two daughters, Sue Ann Cowgill and Evelyn D. Wilkerson; three brothers, Doyne, Arel and George Lee Cowgill and three sisters, Oneida Haywood, Ophelia Rogers and Imogene Owens.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Brother Zack Parr officiating.
Burial will follow at the Mary's Chapel cemetery near Rector.
Loy Oakley
Loy Oakley, 55, of Woodburn, Ky., died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at his residence.
Born in Senath, Mo., son of the late Robert L. and Corda M. Goodrich Oakley, he was a self-employed agricultural business owner, mechanic and machinist.
He married
Lois Ann Behnke, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include four sons, John Oakley, of Bowling Green, Ky., Christopher Oakley, of Colton, Calif. and Jason and Eric Roeckenhaus, both of Breese, Ill.; two daughters, Nancy Hilmes, of Breese and Levonne Kaltenmark, of Tennessee; two brothers, Dewey Oakley, of Belleville, Ill. and Eulis Oakley, of Okawville, Ill.; two sisters, Leanne Moore, of Riverside, Mich. and Letha Miller, of St. Joseph, Mich. and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry M. Oakley and three brothers, Kenneth, Clell and Marvin Henderson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
Burial was in the Fairview cemetery No. 2.
