Thelma Berry
Thelma Bernice Isaacs Berry, 90, of Blytheville, Ark., died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville.
Born near Manila, Ark., daughter of the late Wilburn and Nellie Hayes Isaacs, she was a former Cub Scout den mother, active in PTA, and First Baptist Church where she was Sunday school class pianist, choir member and youth trip sponsor. She served as a volunteer at the USO and the local hospital and was an active member of PEO, the Women's Club, Women's Missionary Society and was a co-contributor of the Kress Building to Main Street Blytheville. On Dec. 31, 1929, she married
Kendall Berry, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Alan Berry and wife, Carrie Sue, of Franklin, Tenn. and Jerry Berry, of Boulder, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Kendall Wood Berry, of Hornersville, Mo., Paige Haynes Berry, Alana Berry Womack and Carrie Dale Ruark, all of Nashville, Tenn. and Samuel Alan Berry, of Franklin, Prentiss Webb Berry III, of Pensacola, Fla. and Jessica Berry King, of Bellingham, Wash. and eight great-grandchildren, Daniel Alan Berry, Kendall Wood Berry, Jr. and Brittany Dawn Berry, all of Toledo, Ohio, Lillian Virginia and Anna Catherine Berry, both of Franklin, Carrie Isabel Womack and Georgia Grace Ruark, both of Nashville and Prentis Webb Berry IV, of Pensacola.
She was preceded in death by her siblings.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 21, at the Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Blytheville with Rev. Bill Fuller officiating.
Burial will follow at the Maple Grove cemetery in Blytheville.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to your church.
Wade Demaree
Wade Demaree, 72, of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at his residence.
Born Feb. 24, 1929, in Malden, son of the late Abraham Otto and Sarah Elizabeth Bunnell Demaree, he was a realtor and owner/operator of a retail catalog sales merchant and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Malden. On Sept. 8, 1951, in Detroit, Mich., he married
Carol Helene Haines, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Nancy Halford and husband, Mark, of Malden; three sons, Kerry Demaree, of Malden, Dennis Demaree and wife, Mary, of Sugarland, Texas and Jim Demaree and wife, Elvia, of Bentonville, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, Josh Patterson, Lindsay, Kristofer, Wesley, Jacob, Natalie and Zack Demaree and Bryan, Andrew and Katie Halford and one brother, Wilbur Demaree, of Marion, Ark. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Chalmer, Robert and Billy Demaree.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Dwight Chapman and Robert Morgan officiating.
Burial will folow at the Park cemetery in Malden.
Roy Duke
Roy Edward Duke, 61, of Doniphan, Mo., formerly of Senath, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at the Current River Nursing Center in Doniphan.
Born March 31, 1940, in Senath, he was the son of the late Connie and Leora Austin Duke.
Survivors include one brother, Connie Edward Duke, of Kennett; three sisters, Barbara Bishop, of Kennett, Christian England, of Paragould, Ark. and Inez Glen, of Little Rock, Ark. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Larry, Marlin, Lee, James and J.B. Duke and one sister, Pauline Vaughn. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 21, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath with Rev. Ed Jansson officiating . Burial was in the Senath cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rick Smarton, Raymond England, Ronnie Shaver, Gary Vaughn, Scottie Jackson and Delmar Potter.
Ethel Jones
Ethel Lee Jones, 89, of Kennett, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at the National HealthCare Center in Kennett.
Born Dec. 7, 1911, in Missouri, daughter of the late Jackson and Maebell Patterson Bell, she was a homemaker and a member of the Northside Missionary Baptist Church in Kennett.
She married
William Henry Jones, who preceded her in death. Survivors include two nieces, Lillie Dell Davis and Barbara Robinson, both of Kennett and a special cousin, Mattie Murphy.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary H. Perry and one brother, Willie Lee Brown.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. E.L. Shockley officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett. Pallbearers will be Dennis Crayon, Terry Eskdridge, Willie Davis, Anthony White, Shawn Robinson and Jeremy Davis.
Richard Simcoke
Richard Pritchett Simcoke was born to Charles and Laura Simcoke on May 1, 1910 in St. Louis, Missouri. He married
Elizabeth Black in St. Louis. In 1960, the family moved to Kennett, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, their three daughters, four grandchildren and his sister. Family includes Ann S. Wood, husband Roy and their son, Robert Wood of Lake Placid, Fla., Susan S. Rodenbaugh, husband David and daughter, Heidi Rodenbaugh of Belleaire, Fla., Judy S. Earnest, husband Charles R., and their children Grant S. Earnest and Emily D. Earnest of Kennett and his sister, Lois S. Heineman of St. Louis.
Simcoke graduated from Exeter Academy in New Hampshire in 1928 and graduated cum laude from Amherst College in 1932. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School . Simcoke was active in the community and successful in local business in Pemiscot and Dunklin counties. In 1936, he acquired the Dolphin Land Company and the Dolphin Cotton Gin in 1939. He transformed the Dolphin Land Co., from a timber company into a modern diversified farm. In the 1960s he experimented with sugar beet production in the Bootheel. He was a founding member of the Missouri Soybean Association and a director of the American Soybean Association. He served as president of the Elk Chute Drainage District and Drainage District Number One of Pemiscot County. He was also a director of the former Bank of Kennett and its successor, First Union Bank. Other interests included oranges in Florida and cattle. For many years he was active in the Kennett Lion Club.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Belle Fountain cemetery in St. Louis.
The family requests memorials be made to the Dunklin County Library.
Hattie Sweetland
Hattie Virginia Sweetland, 59, of Monticello, Ark., formerly of Kennett, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at her residence. Born Dec. 18, 1941, in Kennett, daughter of the late Garland and Frances Dollins Waynick, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monticello, and worked as a hostess at the Missouri Athletic Club and Monticello Country Club.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Sweetland, of Monticello; one son, Jimmy Dean Bowman, of Molalla, Ore.; two daughters, Karen Buettner, of Waterloo, Ill. and Julie Walker, of Carthage, Texas; four brothers, Hoyt Waynick, of Doniphan, Mo., James Waynick, of Kennett, Leonard Waynick, of Holcomb, Mo. and Richard Waynick, of Kipner, Texas; two sisters, Wanda Gill, of Holcomb and Beth Jordan, of Doniphan and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Kennett.
Donnie Wimberley Donnie Wimberley, 58, of Gobler, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at her residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett.
Wanda Cruce
Wanda C. Cruce, 83, of Campbell, Mo. and formerly of Laguna Beach, Calif., died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell.
Born Nov. 5, 1917, in Kalamazoo, Mich., daughter of the late Clarence and Harriet O'Keefe, she was a retired bookkeeper-accountant for Hughes Aircraft Co. and a member of the Sea Ridge Community Church in Laguna.
On Sept. 22, 1930, in Battle Creek, Mich., she married
Vernon Cruce who preceded her in death July 30, 1995. Also preceding her in death were a son, Tom Cruce, a brother Richard O'Keefe and a sister, Betty Ragins.
Survivors include two daughters, Judie Wooley of Kennewick, Wash. and Michele Cruce of Laguna Beach; one brother Jerry O'Keefe of Richland, Mich. and four grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Campbell with the Rev. Bill Orr officiating.
Burial was in Rose Hills Memorial Park cemetery under direction of Rose Hills Mortuary of Whittier, Calif.
Roy Duke

Donald Goff
Donald Wayne Goff, 50, of Jonesboro, Ark., formerly of Leachville, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at the Regional Medical Center of Northeast Arkansas in Jonesboro. Born in Monette, Ark., son of Sylvia Goff Smith of Jonesboro and the late Monroe Goff, he was a truck driver for Hall Transport Co., Charleston, Mo. and a member of the Leachville Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Goff of Cardwell, Mo.; two daughters, Angela Rowland of Jonesboro and Tammy Williams of Leachville; two sisters, Marie Miller of Jonesboro and Glenda Hudson of Bono and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel of Leachville.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Leachville cemetery.
Linda Montgomery
Linda Jane Montgomery, 40, of Caruthersville, died Sept. 19, 2001, at the Caruthersville Nursing Center.
The daughter of the late Billy Jack Davis and Louetta Sides Davis, she graduated Caruthersville High School in 1979 and was a graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville.
Survivors include a daughter, Natalie Anne Montgomery of Jonesboro; a brother, Billy Dale Davis and a nephew, Keith Aaron Davis, both of Caruthersville and nine cousins, Charles, Ward and Allison Davis; Ann, Jeremy and Richard Harmon; Kristin and Anna Elizabeth Lansdale and Kristy Baker. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville with Dr. James Adams officiating.
Burial was in Little Prairie cemetery at Caruthersville under direction of H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville. Pallbearers were John Sellars, Frank Morgan, Lonnie Cagle, Lavanda White, Hansel Morgan and Olin Parks.
Jethro Pruiett
Jethro Pruiett, 93, died Sept. 17, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.
Born April 29, 1908, in Caruthersville, son of the late James Walter and Jennie Lee French Pruiett, he attended school at Kinfolks Ridge and was a farmer until his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith.
On June 2, 1928, in Blytheville, Ark., he married
Grace Dunavant, who preceded him in death Dec. 4, 1993. He also preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Pruiett.
Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Pruiett of Sikeston and Bobby Pruiett of Denison, Texas; one daughter, Margaret Gravette of London, Ky.; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Graveside services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Pemiscot Memorial Gardens with Rev. John Earl Dunavant officiating, and under direction of H.S. Smith Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Tim Taylor, Eddie, Todd, Robert W., Fred W. and Russell Pruiett.
Charlie Thornton
Charlie Harold Thornton, 77, died Sept. 18, at the Pemiscot Memorial Health Services in Hayti.
Born June 25, 1924 in Hot Springs, Ark., son of the late William C. and Rosa Belle Graves Thornton, he was in the trucking business prior to retirement. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. June 26, 1944 and was honorably discharged at Camp Beale, Calif., May 12, 1946. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include four sons, Howard Thornton of St. Peters, Mo., Danny Thornton of West Memphis, Ark., Tim Thornton and Allen Thornton, both of St. Louis; two daughters, Carolyn Bailey of Lilbourn, Mo. and Cindy Huffman of St. Louis; three brothers, Harley and Curtis Thornton, both of Hayti and Odell Thornton of Holts Summit, Mo.; three sisters, Lillie Day and Norma Palmer, both of Caruthersville and Billie Sue Bell of Hayti.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cindy and Sherry Kay.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mike Melton officiating. Interment was in the Maple cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rickie Harden, Ben Thornton, Matt Thornton, Joe Watkins, Robert Bell and Tommy Day.
Donnie Wimberley
Donnie Wimberley, 58, of Gobler, Mo., died Thursday, September 20, 2001 at her residence.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today, Sunday, Sept. 23, in the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in the McDaniel Chapel.
Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele, Mo.
