Sarah Goldsmith
Sarah Sue Goldsmith, 59, died Saturday, Sept. 22, in Baton Rouge, La.
Born Sept. 16, 1942, in Little Rock, Ark., daughter of Dr. A.O. and Josephine Goldsmith of Kennett, she taught English at Louisiana State University and was book review editor and feature writer for the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate. She received her bachelors degree in journalism and masters degree in speech from LSU. At the time of her death she was associate director of LSU Media Services. She has written an illustrated book on four Indian tribes in Louisiana that have retained their tribal identity outside of reservations. It is to be published by the University Press at LSU.
Survivors include three sons, Danny R. Thorpe, Scott's Valley, Calif., Douglas Thorpe, Salisbury, N.C. and Miles B. Thorpe of Baton Rouge and three granddaughters of Baton Rouge.
Memorial services will be Thursday, Sept. 27, at University Presbyterian Church, Baton Rouge, in which she served as a deacon.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 in the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett with the Rev. Gary Mayes conducting the service, which will be under direction of McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett.

Gettia Hagar, 82, of Kennett, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Earline Lawrence
Earline Lawrence, 81, of Rector, Ark., formerly of Campbell, Mo, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Three Rivers Healthcare-South Campus in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born May 6, 1920, in Malden, Mo., daughter of the late Nathan A. and Perlie Ellen Barnwell Russom, she was a retired CNA, a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Campbell and of the Baptist faith.
On May 4, 1939, in Bernie, Mo., she married
Herbert 'Sparky' Lawrence, who preceded her in death on July 1, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Lawrence and wife, Carla, of Poplar Bluff and Ken Lawrence and wife, Rita, of Rector; six grandchildren, Monique Gribbins and husband, Ed and Jeanine Bradley and husband Shannon, all of Poplar Bluff, Eric Fowler and wife, Shawn, of Ocean Springs, Miss., Autumn Lawrence, of Gatewood, Mo., Amber Main and husband, Mark, of Forest City, Ark. and Ryan Lawrence, of Rector; seven great-grandchildren, Lucas, Kenyan and Hudson Frances, Peyton Bradley, Samantha and Jacob Main and Hanna Fowler and one sister, Edith Jackson, of Munford, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lola Russom and Gladys Russom Cruce; four brothers, Dallas, Philbert, Denzel and Delmer Russom and one great-grandson, Christin Lawrence.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Stevens officiating.
Burial will follow at the Woodlawn cemetery-Landess Addition in Campbell.
John J. Rynish
Msgr. John J. Rynish, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Springfield, Mo.
Survivors include two sisters, Angeline McMurtry, of Kansas City, Mo. and Sister Julia Rynish, of Dubuque, Iowa.
Msgr. Rynish, ordained by Bishop Edwin V. O'Hara for the Diocese of Kansas City on Feb. 21, 1943, served the Kansas City Diocese as associate pastor for Holy Cross Parish from 1943 to 1950, St. Wenceslaus Parish, Karlin from 1950-1952, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Bolivar and St. William Parish, Buffalo from 1952-1953 and St. Canera Parish, Neosha from 1954-1960. In 1956, he was incardinated into the southern Missouri diocese. He was pastor of St. Eustachius Parish, Portageville from 1960-1965, Immaculate Conception Parish, Springfield from 1965-1977, St. Mary Parish, Pierce City from 1977to 1979 and St. Joseph Parish, Billings, from 1979-1993. Rynish also served as administrator for the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau from 1969 to 1970 in between the appointments of Archbishop Ignatius Strecker to the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and Cardinal William Baum to the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. In 1973, he again served as administrator of the diocese in between appointments of Cardinal William W. Baum to Washington, D.C. and Cardinal Bernard F. Law to the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.
The vigil will be held at 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 25, and the funeral Mass, celebrated by Bishop John J. Leibrecht, will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at St. Joseph Church in Billings, Mo. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph cemetery.

Elnora Lee Sharp, 67, of Kennett, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at her residence.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Lanning officiating.

Charles Whitlock
Charles Michael Whitlock, 43, of Malden, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Mo.
Born Oct. 23, 1957, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., son of Betty Lipsey McMillian, of Malden and the late Grover Charles Whitlock, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of the Malden American Legion Post No. 293 and of the V.F.W., a commercial fisherman for 18 years and a route driver for Jackson Industrial Laundry in Malden. He was a member of the Church of God in Clewiston, Fla.
On Nov. 27, 1976, in Malden, he married
Karen Faye Davis, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Shawn Michael Whitlcok, of Clewiston, Fla.; two daughters, Amanda Kay Alarcon and husband, Arbel, of Liberty, S.C. and Rachel Danielle Whitlock, of Malden; a grandmother, Maebelle Lipsey, of Campbell, Mo.; four grandchildren, Shawn Whitlock, Aleena Michelle, Ashley Hope and Alexander Arbel Alarcon; his stepfather, Ralph McMillian, of Malden and two sisters, Linda Sinclair, of Poplar Bluff and Paulette O'Neal, of Malden. He was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Whitlock. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at the Rosewood cemetery, First Addition in Malden.

Donnie Wimberley, 58, of Gobler, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at her residence.
Born Sept. 15, 1943, in Steele, Mo., daughter of the late Eugene and Freda Marie Bryant Ragins, she was a member of the Gobler Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherri Moore and husband, Henry, of Festus, Mo. amd Kendra Adams and husband, Paul, of Fairbanks, Alaska; two brothers, Blen Ragins and wife, Donna, of Gobler and Kerry Ragins and wife, Sherry, of Kennett; one sister, Kay Gulley and husband, Max, of Fenton, Mo.; two grandchildren, Matthew Henry Moore and Kyleigh Rheagan Adams; seven nieces, Tammi, Vicki, Johnna Kaye, Sherra, Ronda, Crystal and Tena; four nephews, Steve, Stephen, Keith and Todd and a dear friend, JoBeth Brown, of Atoka, Tenn. She was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Ragins and one nephew, Bernie Crider.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Revs. Chuck White and Don Slatton officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele, Mo. Pallbearers were Larry Young, Billy Brown, Brock Atwill, Vance Hollis, Keith Scott and Buford Barnett.
Honorary pallbearers were Sonny Wimberley, Donnie Burke, Larry Hogan, Gary Nixon, Delan Young, Steve Atwill, Charlie Harris and Dwight Blankenship.

Ruth Holdren
Ruth Brown Holdren, 93, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at the Warrensburg Manor Care Center.
Born Jan. 27, 1908, in Mountain Grove, Mo. daughter of the late Coral C. and Eugenia Isabelle Grimes Brown, she was a bank teller in Mountain Grove, she and her husband owned and operated two funeral homes, a furniture store, an appliance store and an insurance agency in Hartville, Mo. She also worked at the Mo. State Sanatorium. She was a member of the First Christian Church, a Gray Lady at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital, an honorary Rotarian in the Warrensburg Rotary Club and a 50 year member of the Eastern Star where she was Past Worthy Matron. Mrs. Holdren was also a member of the Arts, Books and Crafts Club, Johnson County and Wright County Historical Societies, Chapter HW of PEO, and a former member of the Missouri Funeral Director Association.
On July 18, 1931, in Mountain Grove, Mo., she married
Gene E. Holdren, who preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1976.
Survivors include one son C.L. Holdren and wife, Suzanne, of Warrensburg; one daughter, Ruth Ann Moyer and husband, John, of Kennett; four grandchildren, Cynthia E. Simpson and husband, Steve and Clark B. Holdren, all of Kansas City, Mo., Richard J. Moyer, of Warrensburg and Claire A. Moyer, of Kennett and one great-granddaughter, Carolyn Elizabeth Simpson, of Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James Wallace Brown.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the First Christian Church in Warernsburg with Rev. Dale Matherly officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill cemetery.

Born Feb. 26, 1934, in Kennett, she was the daughter of the late Larry C. Wilburn and Tillie Sexton.
Survivors include one son, Charles M. Sharp, of Kennett; two daughters, Larri Lynn Wolfgang, of Glen Carbon, Ill. and Tracy L. Sharp, of Kennett; one sister, Doris J. Krasnansky, of Portage, Ind.; one grandchild, Nicki Lynn Brink and one aunt, Charlene Wilburn, of Kennett.
