Jerry Hicks
Jerry Wayne Hicks, 30, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Monday, July 29, 2002, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville, Ark.
Born Feb. 12, 1972, in Rolla, Mo., son of John C. and Sharon Arnold Hicks, of Kennett, he was a veteran of the U.S. Marine corps, a member of the Ely Baptist Church in Kennett and employed at Nucor Hickman Steel in Armorel, Ark.
On May 15, 2002, in Dyersburg, Tenn., he married
Jamie Pendergrass, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Caroline Parker Hicks, of Caruthersville; one step-daughter, Statyn Elise Coppage, of Caruthersville; one brother, Terry Hicks, of Kennett and one nephew, Johnny Jack Hicks, of Kennett.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 1, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Rickman and Dr. Paul Currie officiating.
Burial was in the Maple cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were John Martin, Ryan Braswell, Kevin Faulkner, Shawn Wiley, Tony Jones and Derek Callens.
Donna Lumley
Donna Faye Lumley, 37, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., died Monday, July 29, 2002, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville Beach.
Born Sept. 18, 1964, in St. Louis, a daughter of Don Lee Lumley of St. Louis and Alice DeProw Lumley Darmofal and her husband, Steven, of Tallapoosa, Mo. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tallapoosa.
Survivors include one daughter, Brittney Faye Mady of the home; mother and step-father, Alice and Steven Darmofal of Tallapoosa; one brother, Don Lee Lumley II of Arnold, Mo. and a grandmother, Pauline DeProw of Tallapoosa.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5 at Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden, until the time of graveside services at noon in Rosewood cemetery at Malden with the Rev. Randy DeProw officiating.
Lala Via
Lala Smith Via, 95, of Kennett, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at National Healthcare Center in Kennett.
Born Wednesday, April 3, 1907, at Caruthersville, Mo., a daughter of the late John T. and Sally Clark Frame, she was a homemaker, a member of Culbertson Community Homemakers Club and the Samford Church of Christ at Steele, Mo.
She married
Homer Smith, who preceded her in death. She later married
Herman Via, who also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by five brothers.
Survivors include one son, John H. Smith and his wife, Lucille, of Steele; one daughter, Berry Whitfield and her husband, Buck, of Steele; three grandsons, Gary Whitfield of Texas, Terry Smith of Steele and David Smith of Branson and one granddaughter, Gwen Whitfield, of Memphis, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home of Steele with John Mundy officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele.
Dennis Womble
Dennis Lynn Womble, 47, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Dyersburg, Tenn.
Born Sept. 1, 1954, a son of the late Base and Lena Williams Womble, he was a graduate of Hayti, Mo. High School and member of the Hayti Church of Christ. On Aug. 17, 1972, in Memphis Tenn., he entered the U.S. Air Force from which he was honorably discharged Aug. 16, 1974 at Fort Gordon, Ga. He was employed at Loxscreen in Hayti.
On July 4, 1987, in Caruthersville, he married
Laura L. Parkinson, who survives.
Other survivors include three children, Rachel Leighan Womble and Nicholas Lyle Womble of Caruthersville and Kasey Renee Smith of Missouri; two brothers, Bill Womble and Ronnie Womble, both of Hayti; six sisters, Betty Schmidt of St. Charles, Patsy Sandlin of Pearl, Miss., Joy Watkins and Pam Layman, both of Caruthersville, Brenda Westbrook of Paragould, Ark. and Susan Hall of Hayti.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dwight Chapman officiating.
Interment was in Little Prairie cemetery under direction of H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Jackie Overbey, David Maclin, Tommy Woods, Ronnie E. Riddle, L.C. Nelson, Jr. and James S. Owens.
Chesteen Chappell
Chasteen Mae Chappell, 72, of Gideon, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Gideon Care Center.
Born Feb. 10, 1930, in Portageville, Mo., daughter of the late William Chester and Elga Lizziebell Pattillo, she was a member of the Nazerene Church in Wardell, Mo.
On Nov. 12, 1947, in Piggott, Ark., she married
Lloyd Chappell, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include three sons, Gale Chappell, of Corunna, Mich. and Ricky Van and Steven Chappell, both of Gideon; three brothers, Aubrey Harris, of Kennett and Everett and Doil Harris, both of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Louise Savage, of Gideon and Karnese Thompson, of Kennettt and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Brandon Chappell and three sisters, Martha and Virginia Harris and Ruby Fielder.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Gideon.
Funeral services will held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Lindsey officiating.
Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.
Glen Dalton
Glen Ray Dalton, 63, of Senath, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Albert Camp and Troy Alley officiating.
Burial will follow at the Lulu cemetery.
Rena Doughten
Rena Doughten, 84, of Holcomb, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Festus, Mo.

Louise French
Louise Krueger French, 94, of Gideon, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Gideon.
Born June 12, 1908, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., daughter of the late Louis and Helen Jaeqor Krueger, she was a teacher, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gideon, former member of the Gideon Women Club and she helped establish the Gideon Library.
In 1930, in Marion, Ark., she married
Donald Inman French, who preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1989. She was also preceded in death by one son, Bruce French.
Survivors include two grandchildren Francesca McConnell, of Franklin, Tenn. and Donald Brandan French, of Memphis, Tenn.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Badshaw Funeral Home in Gideon.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow at the Cape Memorial Park cemetery in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Darrell Grogan
Darrell H. Grogan, 84, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Kennett, died Aug. 4, 2002.
Born Nov. 25, 1917, in Clay County, Ark., he was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII and a retired insurance agent.
He married
Helen Prewitt, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Patricia Grogan, of Lakeland, Fla.; one grandson, Timothy P. Pearman, of New Orleans, Fla.; one niece, Ruthanne Grogan-Anderson, of Lynden, Wash. and one nephew, Terry Grogan, of Roslyn, Wash.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 6, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church.

Sharon Reese
Sharon Gene Reese, 52, of Malden, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born May 27, 1950, in Holcomb, Mo., daughter of the late Eugene Cole and Katherine Mary West Meese, she was a member of the Sunnyvale General Baptist Church in Malden.
On Sept. 6, 1980, in St. Louis, Mo., she married
Kenneth M.V. Reese, who survives of the home.
Survivors also inlcude one daughter, Shazet Fisk and husband, Steve, of Malden and one granddaughter, Eugenia Hoppe, of Malden.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Vernon Reese officiating.
Burial was in the Volmar cemetery at Bigelow, Ark.

Lois Johnson Revelle, 81, of Senath, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Visitation wil be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lavone Smart officiating.
