Oneida Stoker Houston
Oneida "Coon" Stoker Houston, daughter of the late Albert P. and Lillie Mae Johnson Stoker, was born December 20, 1919, in Senath, Missouri and passed away August 14, 2002, at the St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the age of 82 years.
She was married
to Hiram Houston December 31, 1944, in Paragould, Ark., at the East side Baptist Church
After graduation from high school, Oneida attended Draughns Business College in Memphis, Tenn. for two years. She was a bookkeeper for area cotton gins for 50 years. She was Secretary and Treasurer of Lulu cemetery for 5 years. Mrs. Houston was a member of the First Baptist Church in Senath. She served in the church Choir for many years. She also was a volunteer at Senath Senior Citizen Center and assisted in delivering food to the shut-ins in the community.
Survivors include her husband: Hiram Houston of Senath; one daughter: Janell Mahon of Senath; granddaughter: Michelle Goodwin of Senath; great-grandson: Michael Goodwin of Senath; one sister: Lawanda "Dolly" Jackson of Kennett.
Mrs. Houston is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, A.P. and Bobby Stoker, and three sisters, Wathena French, Nell Whitehead, and Lucille Jones.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 17, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Senath with Rev. Derek Combs officiating. Burial was in the Lulu cemetery in Senath.
Serving as pallbearers: Tomy Lynn Jones, Johnny Stoker, Vernon Stoker, Eddie Gallagher, Bill French, and William Glenn Gallagher.
Honorary pallbearers: George Paul Harris, Corky Dalton, Charlie Adams, John Henry Stephens, Raymond Carroll, and Glen Cannon, Sr.
Charles Redden
Charles Ray Redden, 54, of Steele, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1947, at Gideon, Mo. he was a son of Elco Redden of Clarkton, Mo. and Mary Wallace Redden of Steele.
Survivors include his companion, Martha Overman of Steele; step-mother Rosella Redden of Clarkton; daughter, Mary Ann Prince of Clarkton; six brothers, Danny Redden and Donnie Redden of Steele, Carol Glenn Redden of Tyler, Mo., Junior and Kenny Redden of Clarkton and Michael Redden of Number 9 Community, Mo.; four sisters, Mildred Burham of Caruthersville, Glenda Redden of Wardell, Mo., Linda Wellington and Sarah Beth Bailey of Clarkton; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with the Rev. Eugene Dale officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele.
William Sherwood
William Weston "Pat" Sherwood, 94, of Gideon, Mo., formerly of Clarkton, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Gideon Care Center in Gideon.
Born May 27, 1908, in New Madrid, Mo., son of the late Thomas Weston and Kathryn Ellis Sherwood, he was a cotton ginner and member of First Baptist Church in Clarkton.
On May 18, 1926, in Alton, Mo., he married
Sarah Emma Campbell, who survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Lee Howard of Clarkton and Patricia Ann Fletcher and her husband, Jack, of Gideon; seven grandchildren, James Martin Howard of Dexter, Mo., Elizabeth Ann Peck of Scottsdale, Ariz., William Claude Howard of Clarkton, Sallee Forrest of Charleston, Mo., Retha Behr of Key Largo, Fla., Tony Fletcher of Silverthorn, Colo. and Clark Fletcher of Springfield, Mo.; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Aug. 18, at Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Gideon with the Rev. Cleo Payne officiating.
Burial in the Evergreen cemetery at New Madrid.
Teresa Waterworth
Teresa Ann Pattillo Waterworth, 36, of Eldon, Mo., and formerly of the Portageville, Mo. and Risco, Mo. area, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at her residence.
Born Aug. 4, 1966, at Waverly, Tenn., she was a daughter of Jerry Cleo Pattillo of Ocoee, Fla. and Betty Ann Baker Pattillo of Clarkton, Mo.
On June 28, 1998 at Eldon, she married
Robin Waterworth who survives of Nixa, Mo.
Other survivors include a son, Gabriel Michael Waterworth of Eldon; step-mother, Linda Pattillo of Ocoee; a brother, Shane Pattillo of Winter Garden, Fla.; grandparents Paul and Mary Baker of Clarkton; Irene Baker of Campbell, Mo. and Verna Lee Pattillo of Gideon.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Chuck Pipkins officiating.
Burial was in Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton.
Mary Willard
Mary M. Willard, 90, of Campbell, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 at Ridgeview Nursing Home of Malden, Mo.
Born Sept. 4, 1911, at Olmsted, Ill., a daughter of the late Edward and Sarah Estella Chumley Dover, she was a homemaker and attended the Assembly of God Church.
On Nov. 4, 1927, in Piggott, Ark., she married
Lawrence Amble Willard who preceded her in death on May 12, 1993. She was also preceded in death by two sons, James Hubert Willard and Dean Willard; four brothers, Charles, Otis, Paul and Clem Dover and one grandson.
Other survivors include six sons, Troy, Wesley and Coy Willard of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Alva, Bob and Dennis Willard of Campbell; three daughters, Wilma Todd of Perryville, Geraldine Todd of Cape Girardeau and Mary Lou Brooks of Campbell; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Aug. 18, at Landess Funeral Home Chapel of Campbell with the Revs. Dale Shoup and Larkin Enlow officiating.
Burial in the Mt. Gilead cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.
Clois Butler
Clois Van Butler, 87, of Rector, Ark., died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, Ark.
Born March 25, 1915, in the Ebnezer Community, son of the late Grover Cleveland and Clara Bell Butler, he was a farmer, former director of Clay County Electric, member of the Soil and Water Conservation and a former director of the State Board of Directors of the R.E.A.
Survivors include one son, Futrell Butler and wife, Ella, of Rector; one grandchild, Peggy Wheeler, of Rector; two great-grandchildren, Leah Smart and Heath Wheeler, both of Rector and one great-great-grandchild, Hannah Grace Smart, of Rector.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavada Butler.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with James Henry Dortch and Edwin Teasley officiating.
Burial was in the Rock Springs cemetery at Knob, Ark.
Pallbearers were James Huggins, David Roberts, Ernie Faucet, Gary Bean and Velius Simpson.
Honorary pallbearers were Clay County directors and employees.
J. Loyd Carter
J. Loyd Carter, 95, of Bernie, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at the Cypress Point Health Care in Dexter, Mo.
Born Jan. 17, 1907, in Ellsinore, Mo., son of the late Jessie and Irene Walker Carter, he was a farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bernie.
On April 17, 1927, in Ellsinore, he married
Edith Cates, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two sons, Ivan Willis Carter, of Bonne Terre, Mo. and Sherman Loyd Carter, of Bernie; three daughters, Verna Roberts, of Wappapello, Mo., Leatha McElvoy, of Springfield, Mo. and Brenda Collins, of Lakeland, Fla.; one brother, Tony Carter, of St. Clair, Mo.; one sister, Bertha Wise, of St. Louis, Mo.; 2 grandchildren and over 100 great-grandchuildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Freeman Luke Carter; one daughter, Naomi Dockins; one grandson, James Darrin Carter; seven brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Knapp officiating.
Burial was in the Bernie cemetery.
Ronnie Crafton
Ronnie Crafton, 56, of Bragg City, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born June 26, 1946, in Fraley, Mo., he was the son of Lloyd and Opal Pankey Crafton.
On Sept. 25, 1965, in Bragg City, he married
Betty McMahan, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Mike Crafton and wife, Paige, of Bragg City; one daughter, Christy Daugherty and husband, Scott, of Kennett; two brothers, Lewis Crafton, of Memphis and Larry Joe Crafton, of Kennett; three sisters, Helen Workman, of Blytheville, Ark., Ruth Jackson, of Troy, Mo. and Kim Sprouse, of Holcomb, Mo. and four grandchildren, Lindsey and Alyssa Crafton and Tyler and Cara Daugherty.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lindol and Robert "Bud" Crafton.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Bragg City First Baptist Church with the Rev. D.H. Brooks officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Buster Pylate, Steve Atwill, Charlie Hindmon, Tommy Pritchard, Tom Duncan, Jerry Gene Marchbanks and Wayne and Bill Kincade.

Bessie Crawford, 84, of Kennett, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at National HealthCare in Kennett.
Born Oct. 18, 1917, in Kennett, daughter of the late Jesse amd Mary Masterson Rhew, she was a cook for Kennett Public Schools and a member of the Emerson Sreet Church of God.
In July, 1940, she married
Rebus Crawford, who preceded her in death on April 5, 1995. She was also preceded in death by two siblings in infancy and five brothers, Doug, George, Ed, L.D. and J.T. Rhew.
Survivors include two sons, Ben Crawford, of DeBerry, Texas and Ray Crawford, of Kennett; one daughter, Vonnie Pitts, of Washington, Mo.; three brothers, Ted Rhew, of Florissant, Mo., Jerry Rhew, of Bridgeman, Mich. and Larry Rhew, of Caseyville, Ill.; four sisters, Naomi Holder, of Kennett, Ruby Miller, of Aurora, Ill., Jane Jackson, of Dexter, Mo. and Evelyn Dearing, of St. Charles, Mo.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Ben Jordan officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Tim and Jeff Crawford, Mike Blankenship, Chris Wake, Danny Rhew, Steve Moody and Bob Holder.
Loy Downing
Loy Dell Downing, 78, of Bragg City, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born May 21, 1924, in Antoine, Ark., daughter of the late Loyd Elmer and Georgia E. Dyer Golden, she was a postmaster in Bragg City and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bragg City.
On Jan. 23, 1943, she married
John V. Downing, who preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1984. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Billie Joe Golden and three sisters, Evelyn LeBlanc, Dorothy Hooper and Verna Newton.
Survivors include one son, John Michael Downing, of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Patti Duncan and Becky Ivie, both of Bragg City; one brother, Mac Golden, of Steele, Mo.; two sisters, Ida Ditto, of Spring, Texas and Eunice Phillips, of Lubbock, Texas and four grandchildren, Shane and Joey Duncan, of Bragg City and Christopher and Emily Downing, of Jefferson City.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Bragg City First Baptist Church with the Revs. O.H. Brooks and Dale Rickman officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Shane and Joey Duncan, Christopher and Don Downing, Brett Burton and Tony Chailland.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.
