John Maguire
John Thomas Maguire, 88, of Cherokee Village, Ark., formerly of Malden, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at his residence.
Born March 19, 1913, in Pacific, Mo., son of the late Bernard and Jenny Glasner Maguire, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII in Northern France, where he won the Bronze Star and later served in Alaska and Korea. He attend the Spoonerville Baptist Church in Malden, Mo. and was employed by the Candy Co. and the American Stove Company prior to his retirement.
On May 3, 1951, in Piggott, Ark., he married
Virginia Fowler, who survives, of Malden.
Survivors also include twin daughters, Patsy Puckett and husband, Claude, of Cherokee Village and Peggy Cambron and husband, Earl, of Malden; one brother, Daniel Maguire, of Springfield, Mo.; one step-son, Richard Johnson and wife, Marlene, of Noble, Ark.; one step-daughter, Gloria Doty and husband, Ronald, of Corning, Ark.; nine grandchildren, Shawn Michael and James Lee West, Wanda Michelle Honeycutt, Jeffery W. and Candance Marie Puckett, Raqueal Lynn Shelton and Brian Patrick, Kimberly Dawn and Melvin Justin Cambron and five great-grandchildren, Jessica Daniella and Brandon Michael West and Dusty, Emily and Natalie Honeycutt.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Perry Clark officiating.
Burial was in the Park cemetery at Malden.
Bernice McPherson
Bernice McPherson, 88, of Kennett, died Monday, Jan, 7, 2002, at the Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.
Born Jan. 7, 1914, in Chotaw, Ark., daughter of the late Jim and Ada Dempsey Williams, she was a member of the Slicer Street Church of Christ in Kennett.
On May 5, 1934, in Kennett, she married
Thomas McPherson, who preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1980. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Fisher.
Survivors include one son, James McPherson, of Shannon, Mich.; one daughter, Doris James, of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett with the Rev. Eddie McPherson officiating.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
Faye Landess Mills
Faye Rene Mills, of Murphysboro, Ill., died following a short illness, at 1:26 p.m. on December 25, at her daughter's home in Murphysboro.
Faye was born on April 10, 1903, to Elmer West Landess and Edna Belle (Boxell) Landess. She married
William Leon Mills, of Malden, Mo., on November 15, 1925. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1949.
Mrs. Mills was a homemaker and a loving mother, devoted to her family. She was baptized into the Church of Christ and was the oldest member of the First Christian Church of Murphysboro. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, the White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Federated Woman's Club.
Faye is survived by five children; one son, Landes Leon Mills and wife, Judy, of Murphysboro; son, Dr. Robert B. Mills and wife, Joyce, of Murphysboro; daughter, Jeanette Hudgins and husband, John, of Murphysboro; son, Michael Mills, of Murphysboro; and daughter, Mary Pat Mills, of Kauai, HI. She is survived by 10 grandchildren; Melody Corso, of Naperville, Ill; Gary Landess Mills and wife, Brenda, of Murphysboro; Mike Mills and wife, Nona, of Sikeston, Mo.; Dr. Robert Leon Mills, of Marion; Dr. Stephen Mills and wife, Tracey, of Carterville; Dr. Joseph Hudgins and wife, Lane Blume Hudgins, of Murphysboro; Jem Hudgins, of Norwell, MA; Molly Hudgins, of St. Louis, Mo.; Amy Jane Mills Tunnicliff, of Hingham, MA; and Christopher Mills, of San Francisco, Calif. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren; Jason Zastrow, Carrie Corso, Elizabeth Stiegman and her husband, Steve, Casey Faye Mills, Sarah Mills, Devin Mills. Sean Mills, Spencer Mills, Lincoln Mills, Grant Mills, Shea Leigh Mills, Brockton Mills, Cameron Hudgins, Andrew Landess Hudgins, Kelly Faye Hudgins, Courtney Hudgins, Woody Tunnicliff and Faye Landess Tunnicliff.
Mrs. Mills was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and four brohters.
Graveside services for Faye Mills were held on Saturday, December 29th at 10:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Memorial cemetery. The graveside service was followed by a memorial celebration of her life at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Murphysboro, 15th and Pine Streets. Memorial contributions in memory of Faye may be made to the First Christian Church of Murphysboro or TIP Hospice.
Henry Norman
Henry B. Norman, 83, of Senath, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at the Northeast Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.
Funeral sevices will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Senath First Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene West officiating.
Burial will follow at the Senath cemetery.
Loy Petty
Loy Petty, 69, of Flint, Mich., formerly of Arbyrd, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Flint.
Born March 25, 1932, in Arbyrd, he was the son of the late George and Lucinda Grissom Petty.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Petty, of Flint; one brother, Vaughn Petty, of Senath, Mo. and one sister, Lucille Adams, of Arbyrd.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Vera Hopper, Orean Smith, Beatrice Lindsey and Ruth Petty.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Arbyrd with the Rev. Alan Cureton officiating.
Burial was in the Lulu cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joe and Bryan Lane, Dwayne Petty, Neal Smith, Ken Sikes and Roger Duty.
A.E. Sturgeon
A.E. "Tuff" Sturgeon, 86, of Malden, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at his residence.
Born Sept. 8, 1915, in Zalma, Mo., son of the late Howard Issac and Clara Lacy Sturgeon, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII, a retired farmer and landowner, a member of the Four Mile Masonic Lodge #211 in Campbell and former trustee and ex-officio treasurer of Cottonhill Township and was of the General Baptist faith.
On Aug. 14, 1950, in Piggott, Ark., he married
LaNelle Bailey, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two sons, Jack Sturgeon and wife, Jan, of Wappapello, Mo. and Tony Sturgeon and wife Sherry, of Neelyville, Mo.; one daughter, Mary Nell Wagner and husband, Wendell, of Parma, Mo.; one brother, Bill Sturgeon, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two sisters, Velma Arrington, of Neelyville and Bernice Peck of Bridgeton, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jacqueline Rohr, of Apple Valley, Minn., Kelly Foster, of Dexter, Mo. and Tara and Tyler Wagner, both of Parma; four great-grandchildren, Katlynn and Michael Rohr, both of Apple Valley and Jordynn and Caden Foster, both of Dexter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Elmond Sturgeon and two sisters, Freda Gulley and Alta Mincey.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with Revs. Dick Murray and James Back officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Park cemetery at Malden.
Tony Walls
Anthony Eugene "Tony" Walls, 56, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at his residence.
Born Aug. 2, 1945, in Lilbourn, Mo., son of the late Samuel and Bernice Goodrich Walls, he worked at Federal Mogul in Malden and was a member of the American Legion Post 293 in Malden.
In 1970, in St. Louis, Mo., he married
Ruth Anne Winchester, who survives.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Walls, of Malden and Dawn Christine Condor, of Granite City, Ill.; one sister, Reba Holtzclaw, of Kokomo, Ind. and two grandchildren, Alexander Jade Walls-Anthony, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Dalton Cole Walls, of Granite City.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with Allen Massey officiating.
Burial will follow at the Rosewood cemetery in Malden.
Ethel Walton
Ethel Mae Walton, 90, of Malden, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Ridgeview Nursing Center in Malden.
Born Sept. 8, 1911, in Ellington, Mo., daughter of the late Job H. and Sarah C. Thompson Ratliff, she was a homemaker and a charter member of the Sunnyvale General Baptist Church in Malden.
On Dec. 23, 1928, in Missouri, she married
Rev. Ernest Walton, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Kathleen Pickard, of Malden; two grandsons, Donald Phillip Luallen, of Malden and Rodger Dale Luallen and wife, Marsha, of Okmulgee, Okla.; two great-grandsons, Marcus and Marlo Luallen, both of Okmulgee; two great-granddaughters, Marcy Fleming and Marisa Luallen, both of Okmulgee; one great-great-granddaughter, Kerrigan Fleming, of Okmulgee;and one sister, Dessie B. Hill, of Malden.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Harley, Robert, Henry and David Ratliff and one sister, Lucille Ratliff, died in infancy.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dick Murray officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.

Otis Crawford
Otis Crawford, 88, of Gideon, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born May 8, 1913, in Kentucky, son of the late Butler and Beulah Crawford, he was of the Assembly of God faith and a farmer.
On June 9, 1953, he married
Ruth Helen Beard, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include four daughters, Brenda Walker, of Dexter, Mo., Phyllis Ann McRill, Marla Sue Bailey and Bonnie Gail Crawford, all of Kennett; four sons, Dale Allen Crawford, of Kennett, Jeffrey Crawford, of Malden, Mo., Kenneth Crawford, of St. louis, Mo. and Joel Ray Bell, of Russellville, Ark.; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Gaveside services were held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.
Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
Herbert Davidson
Herbert Henry Davidson, 88, of Kennett, formerly of Cardwell, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born in Gamelia, Ark., son of the late Louis and Bertha Shipley Davidson, he was a former chief of police from Cardwell and former Dunklin County Deputy Sheriff and a member of the Cardwell first Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Phillips Davidson.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Johnson, of Bald Knob, Ark.; six grandchildren, Pat Diamond and Randy Brannum, both of Augusta, Ark., Debbie Nolen, of Jonesboro, Ark., Mark Nolen, of Punkin Center, Mo., Sherrie Eddington, of Kennett and Jeffrey Nolen, of Cardwell; four brothers, Cecil and Glen Davidson, both of Cardwell, Freddie Davidson, of Paris, Texas and Bobby Davidson, of Sweeney, Texas and four sisters, Joyce Malone, of Arbyrd, Mo., Alamae Pritchard, of Paragould, Ark., Ruby Huggins, of Paris and Maxine Sanders, of Bakersfield, Calif.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville, Ark.
Burial was in the Cardwell cemetery.
Pallbearers were Davis Smith, Devin Fisher, Dustin and Brett Nolen, Gene Kelly and Mike Diamond.

Gatha Decker, 85, of Rives, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Adam Broom officiating.
