Otis Haynes
Otis Haynes, 84, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
Born Feb. 13, 1917, in Trumann, Ark., son of the late William and Celia Thomas Haynes, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville and worked for the St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. for many years.
On May 9, 1939, in Neelyville, Mo., he married
Mary A. Dollins, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by three grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Doris June Baker and husband, Bob, of Heavener, Okla., Judy Bata and husband, Clifton, of Columbia, Mo. and Lanna Payne and husband, Bryan, of Germantown, Tenn.; three sons, Marvin Haynes and wife, Carolyn, of Denver, Colo., Tom Haynes and wife, Janie, of Olive Branch, Miss. and Glenn Haynes and wife, Suzanne, of Caruthersville; one brother, Earl Haynes, of Wyoming, Mich.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Roberts cemetery South in Neelyville with Dr. Marvin Haynes officiating.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti is in charge of arrangements.
H.B. Norman
H.B. Norman, 83, of Senath, Mo., died Monday, Jan, 7, 2002, at Northeast Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born Jan. 9, 1918, in Senath, son of the late John Henry and Pearl Keel Scruggs Norman, he was a farmer, taught and coached in Senath and was an agent for New York Life Insurance.
On June 24, 1940, in Malden, Mo., he married
Clementine Caneer, who preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 1988. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Moore and one brother, Hanley Norman.
Survivors include one son, John Norman and wife, Linda, of Jackson, Mo.; one daughter, JoAnn Norman, of Jonesboro, Ark.; five grandchildren, Brandon Norman and wife, Rhonda, Nathan Norman and wife, Audrey and Tyson Norman, all of Jackson, Henry Moore and wife, Sherri, of Festus, Mo. and Joe F. Moore, of Sikeston, Mo. and three great-grandchildren, Randa Norman and Matthew and Joseph Moore.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the First United Methodist Church in Senath with the Rev. Gene West officiating.
Burial was in the Senath cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joe Moore, Jr., Henry Moore, Brandon, Tyson and Nathan Norman, Lester Hunter and Mardon Layne.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Senath was in charge of arrangements.
Robert Smith
Robert Theodore Smith, 75, of Senath, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born Oct. 27, 1926, in Senath, son of the late John Henry and Maude Irene Gholson Smith, he was retired from the Army after 23 years of service as an Army Medic and serving two tours in Vietnam. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Medical Badge and the Good Conduct Medal and he was a member of the Hornersville American Legion Post.
He married
Orean Petty, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Alma Smith and two brothers, Joe and Charles Smith.
Survivors include three step-daughters, Margaret Sessoms, of Cardwell, Mo., Patsy Zolman, of Lounds, Mo. and June Malone, of Oak Grove, La.; three brothers, Ted Smith, of St. Louis, Mo., Don Smith, of Honolulu, Hawaii and M.L. Smith, of Collinsville, Ill. and six sisters, Dorothy Whitlock, of Senath, Sally Grimes, of Fenton, Mo., Rose McCourt, of Gillespie, Ill., Barbara Creasy, of Alton, Ill., Judy Jones, of Madison, Miss. and Betty Vogel, of St. Charles, Mo. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath with the Rev. Albert Camp officiating.
Burial was in the Lulu cemetery.
Nephews served as pallbearers.
Tony Walls
Anthony Eugene "Tony" Walls, 56, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at his residence.
Born Aug. 2, 1945, in Lilbourn, Mo., son of the late Samuel and Bernice Goodrich Walls, he worked at Federal Mogul in Malden and was a member of the American Legion Post 293 in Malden.
In 1970, in St. Louis, Mo., he married
Ruth Anne Winchester, who survives.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Walls, of Malden and Dawn Christine Condor, of Granite City, Ill.; one sister, Reba Holtzclaw, of Kokomo, Ind. and two grandchildren, Alexandra Jade Walls-Anthony, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Dalton Cole Walls, of Granite City.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with Allen Massey officiating.
Burial will follow at the Rosewood cemetery in Malden.
Woodrow Green
Woodrow W. Green, 85, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems at Hayti, Mo.
Born Nov. 11, 1916, in Malden, Mo., son of the late Bert and Grace Blades Green, he attended the Temple Baptist Church and was in the trucking business and employed by Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems as a security guard prior to his retirement.
On July 24, 1941, in Bloomfield, Mo., he married
Audrey Medlin, who preceded him in death on June 15, 1998. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Goodale, of Caruthersville; seven grandcildren, Dawn Goodale, Ricky Hall, Jill Mott, Keith Campbell and Jana Tillman, all of Caruthersville, Brandon Ford, of Columbus, Ohio and Chad Ford, of North Carolina; three brothers, Robert Earl Green, of Marble Hill, Mo., T.B. Green, of Malden and John Green, of Gordonville, Mo.; one sister, Ella Hutchcraft, of Sedwickville, Mo. and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Jerry Harmon officiating.
Burial was in the Pemiscot Memorial Gardens cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Shane Dudley, Keith Campbell, Tommy Tillman, Don Waldron, Dennie Green and Brandon Ford.
Lucille James
Lucille James, 62, of Piedmont, Mo., formerly of Malden, Mo., died today, Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden.
F.M. Woodard
F.M. "Woody" Woodard, 87, of Carthage, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage.
Born Jan. 20, 1914, in Blytheville, Ark., son of the late Lee and Mary Woodard, he was a salesman for the West Bend Corporation and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carthage.
On Oct. 3, 1931, in Cooter, Mo., he married
Ruby Clark, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Gay Ford, of Carthage; one son, Harold Glenn Woodard, of Kennett; two brothers, Charles Woodard, of St. George, Utah and Carlos Woodard, of Kennett; one sister, Pauline Shinogee, of Long Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by one son, one brother and one sister.
A family visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Knell Mortuary in Carthage.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the Park cemetery in Carthage with Minister David Lang officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Over Sixty Center in Carthage, in care of the Knell Mortuary in Carthage.
Charles Cheshire
Charles Edward Cheshire, 35, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002.
Born Nov. 17, 1966, in Little Rock, Ark., son of the late Ruth Warhorse Cheshire and Tommie R. Cheshire of Caruthersville, he attended schools in Caruthersville and Deering.
Survivors include his step-mother, Charity Cheshire of Caruthersville; two half-brothers, Charles D. Studie of Morton, Miss. and Tim Stuart of Sikeston, Mo.; a half-sister, Betty McKnight of Caruthersville; a nephew, Tony Long of Sikeston and a special friend, Linda Paxton of Braggadocio.
Graveside services were 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, in Dry Bayou cemetery in the Concord Community with Rev. Kenny Lee officiating an under direction of H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Buford Barnett, Tony Long, Jeff Phelps, Daniel Altice and Tim Stuart.
Gatha Decker
Gatha Decker, 85, of Rives died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at her residence.
Born Feb. 10, 1916, in Alicia, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Robert William and Mary Ann Brown Whitmire.
On September 25, 1937, in Lawrence County, Ark., she married
Everette I. Decker who preceded her in death Aug. 23, 1981. She was also preceded in death by a son, William Thomas Decker; two brothers, Hershel and Bruce Whitmire and six sisters, Beulah Graham, Mildred Sherman, Alice Lee, Grace Reece, Geneva Counts and Cressie Whitmire.
Survivors include a son, Paul Decker of Kennett; a daughter, Mary Murrell of Rives; a brother, Bill Whitmire, Jr. of Umatilla, Fla.; a sister, Pearline McAbee of Knil, Mich.; five grandchildren, Mike Decker of Cape Girardeau, Tim Murrell of Kerrville, Texas, Blaine Murrell of Poplar Bluff, Kim McRoy of Bloomfield and Lisa Pruitt of Kennett and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 11, in the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with Adam Broom officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
Floye Ellis
Floye Lee Ellis, 87, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born Tuesday, May 26, 1914, in Grassy, Mo., daughter of the late Roy and Bertha Hill Bryant, she was a seamstress and a member of the Church of Christ in Steele.
She married
Sam Kendrick Ellis who preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Sam K. Ellis, Jr. of Steele; two daughters, Carol Stuart of Kennett and Pat Taylor of Steele; two sisters, Jueletta Campbell and Geneva Tidwell, both of DeLand, Fla; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be today, Friday, Jan. 11, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Steele.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Bradshaw Chapel with Spencer Furby officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele.
