Ernest George
Ernest Wade George, 87, of Senath, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the Senath Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 1, 1914, in Senath, he was the son of the late Calvin Lee and Mattie Ellen Moore George.
On Dec. 2, 1939, he married
Lorene Huddleston, who survives, of Senath. Survivors also include three sons, Rick George, of St. Francis, Ark., Glendon George, of Granite City, Ill. and Dale George, of Richmond Va.; one daughter, Susan Bowlds, of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Johnson officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Glen George, Jr., Donald, Gaylon and Glen Weaver, Lelan Hendrix and Vern Stricklin.
Mavis Hagghard
Mavis Hagghard, 63, of Hornersville, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at National HealthCare in Kennett.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Emerson Funeral Home of Hornersville.
Edna Landrum Edna Landrum, 89, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at National HealthCare in Kennett.

Vivian Pleasant
Vivian Pleasant, 84, of Willow Springs, Mo., formerly of Wardell, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Willow Health Care in Willow Springs.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home in Wardell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at the Wardell Memorial cemetery in Wardell.
Selma Shaw
Selma L. Shaw, 80, of Tallapoosa, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at her residence.
Born Oct. 23, 1921, in Brooklyn, Ark., daughter of the late James Franklin and Ermer Christine Fields Cole, she was a homemaker, a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Tallapoosa, where she was a member of the WMU and secretary of the Adult Women's Sunday School Class.
On April 23, 1941, in New Madrid, Mo., she married
Gilbert Shaw, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include two daughters, Mary Eleanor Metcalf, of Tallapoosa and Ava Nell King, of Gideon, Mo.; one brother, Arthur Cole, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and two grandsons, John Shaw DaVault, of St. Louis, Mo. and Malcolm Byron Metcalf, Jr., of Waterford, Mich.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Pervus M., Edgar and John M. Cole.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Tallapoosa with the Rev. Jerry Lindsey officiating.
Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.
Memorials may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church in Tallapoosa.
Jerry Lee Wallace
Jerry Lee Wallace, 57, of Dickson, Tenn., formerly of Kennett, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
Born April 28, 1944, in Kennett, son of the late Henry and Wanda Lee Bulla Wallace, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Wallace of the home; a son Brett Wallace of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Michelle White and Tricia and Tara Wallace, all of Columbus, a brother Henry "Curtis" Wallace of Frederick, Md.; a sister, Shelby Rebstock of Kennett and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 14, at the First Baptist Church of Dickson with Dr. Jim Chatham officiating.
Burial was in in the Veterans cemetery.
Virgil Agee
Virgil Lee Agee, 63, of Gobler, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at his residence.
Born Sept. 12, 1938, in Hope, Ark., son of the late George and Jewelene Agee, he was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.
He married
Rosetta Hattiex, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one daughter, Birdie Stewart and husband, Bobby, of Gobler; two brothers, Walter Williams, Jr., of Milwaukee, Wis., George L. Agee, Jr., of Star City, Ark.; one sister, Alene Agee, of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Yahntzee Hattiex, of Homestown, Mo., Tomeka Jones, of Alamogorda, NM and Candis and Myron Hattiex, both of Gobler; three step-grandchildren, Linda Stewart, of Caruthersville, Mo., Jacquline Stewart, of Gosnell, Ark. and Bobby Stewart, Jr., of Deering, Mo. and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Steele, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with J.B. Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow at the United Baptist Church cemetery in Gobler.
James Erving
James Ruben Erving, 47, of Sikeston, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
Born June 6, 1954, in Crenshaw, Miss., son of Clara Hankins, of Sikeston and the late Ruben Erving, he was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Greers Chapel Baptist Church. He was the recipient of the Golden Poet Award in 1987.
Survivors include one son, Courtney Erving Baker, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Patricia Smooth, of Malden, Mo.; his mother and step-father, Clara and Charlie Hankins, Sr., of Sikeston; a grandmother, Grace Wynn, of Sikeston; two step-brothers, Charlie Hankins, Jr., of Sikeston and Sheldon Hankins, of Kansas City, Mo.; one step-sister, Dearmond D. Wofford, of Kansas City and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Williams, Sr. officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sunset of Memories cemetery in Sikeston.

Louise Gill, 94, of Martin, Tenn., formerly of Bragg City, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at her residence.

Christine Green
Christine Green, 82, of Steele, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born Dec. 23, 1919, in Ponitoc, Miss., daughter of the late Verly and Mary Lou Robbins McCord, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God in Kennett.
She married
Verlon Green, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Jerry Green, Sr. and wife, Cecilia, of Steele; one daughter, Patricia Ricketts and husband, William, of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Angela Carson, of Soddy-Daisy and Dr. Leigh Ann Ricketts, of Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandsons, Jerry Wayne Green Jr., and Joseph Lee and Jonathan Dewayne Green, all of Steele and two great-grandchildren, Brittni Frank and Karah Carson, both of Soddy-Daisy.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Steele.

Born April 27, 1938, in Buchanan, Mich., daughter of the late Arvel and Viola Bain York, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
On July 2, 1943, in Marked Tree, Ark., she married
Harold Hagghard, who preceded her in death on May 19, 2001. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Henry York.
Survivors include one son, Rocky Hagghard, Jr., of Doniphan, Mo.; three daughters, Debbie Whitworth, of Piggott, Ark., Jackie Turner, of Paragould, Ark. and Kellie Hay, of Overrbrook, Ks.; three brothers, Arvil "Buck" York, Jr., of Harrisburg, Ark., Clarence York, of Doniphan and Donnie York, of Mississippi; one sister, Mary York, of Arizona; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mary Katherine James, 84, of Hayti, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Three Rivers Health Care in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born Jan. 7, 1918, in Crockett Mills, Tenn., daughter of the late Robert Willard and Lona Francis Petty Privett, she was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
On Feb. 23, 1938, in Deering, Mo., she married
A.T. James, Jr., who preceded her in death on April 8, 1984.
Survivors include one son, Douglas James, of Deering; two daughters, Alice Reis, of Doniphan, Mo. and Jeanette Bradshaw and husband, Charles, of Forrest City, Ark.; three grandchildren, Pamela Bradshaw, of Forrest City, Terry Bradshaw, of Conway, Ark. and Brain James, of Deering; three great-grandchildren, Lane, Clayton and Blake Bradshaw, all of Conway and two brothers, Hardy Privett, of Caruthersville, Mo. and Leon Privett, of Kennett.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Jim Russell officiating.
Burial was in the Maple cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Dwight Blankenship, Billy, Doyle and Bob Privett, Lenard Elder and John Calhoun.
