Ponnie Palmer

Ponnie Evelyn Palmer, 98, of Hayti, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville, Ark.

Born Nov. 21, 1903, in Morrilton, Ark., daughter of the late Henry and Carrie Banks Mimms, she was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

On Jan. 20, 1923, in Morrilton, she married James L. Palmer, who preceded her in death on July 31, 1974. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Maxine Hill.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Palmer, of Perry, Ark. and Billy and Kenneth Palmer, both of Hayti; two daughters, Evelyn Hale, of Nesbit, Miss. and Carol Bozarth, of St. Louis, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Church of Christ in Hayti with Laddie Owens officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Richard and Raymon Miller, Mike and Jonathon Palmer, Mike Hoyt and Larry Palmer II.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.

Vivian Pleasant

Vivian Vane Pleasant, 86, of Wardell, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the Willow Care Nursing Center.

Born Sept. 30, 1915, in Qulin, Mo., daughter of the late Hershel and Ginny Ann Christie, she was a homemaker.

In 1930, in Qulin, she married William Willard Pleasant, who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1977. She was also preceded in death by one son, Clyde Chrisitie.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Pleasant, of St. Louis, Mo. and Zindel Pleasant, of Laguna Beach, Calif.; six daughters, Donna Allen, of Mountain View, Mo., Judy Truelove, of Delhi, La., Ilene Marler, of St. Louis, Patsy Pleasant, of Springfield, Mo. Maxine Minyard, of Chicago, Ill. and Peggy Cochran, of Phoenix, Ariz.; five brothers, Aubry Christie, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Donald and Carl Christie, both of St. Louis and Peter and Hershel Christie, both of Eloy, Ariz.; one sister, Mabel Withrow, of New Orleans, La.; 32 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home in Wardell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Griff Walker officiating.

Burial will follow at the Wardell cemetery.

Pallbearers are Andy Truelove, Steven Randolph, Michael Marler, Billy Randolph, Brandon Roy and Terry Minyard.

Aubrey Christie served as honorary pallbearer.

Louise Gill

Louise Gill, 94, of Martin, Tenn., formerly of Bragg City, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at her residence.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 18, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Bragg City Baptist Church with Revs. Dale Rickman and A.C. Gardner officiating.

Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.

Memorials may be made to the Camp McClanahan Children Scholarship Fund, 212 Southwest Drive, Kennett, Mo. 63857.

Edna Landrum

Edna Landrum, 89, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Born June 25, 1912, in White Oak, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Louis S. and Cora A. Sutton Bryant.

On March 17, 1933, she married Earnest Lee Landrum, who preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1960. She was also preceded in death by two sons, J.R. and Robert Landrum; one brother, Edgar Dye and one sister, Maudie Aldridge.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Landrum, of Piggott, Ark. and G.W. Landrum, of Nixa, Mo.; one daughter, Mary Moody, of Piggott; one sister, Betty Stewart, of St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 18, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.C. Joyner officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Gary Simmons, Steve Mobbs, Brian Goodrich, Larry McDowell, Dashel Finley and Walter Dearing.

Johnny Little

Johnny Little, 80. of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at John J. Pershing VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kit Campbell officiating.

Burial with military rites will follow at the Mt. Gilead cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.

Dona Long

Dona A. Long, 89, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Bernie, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at the Springfield Rehab Healthcare in Springfield.

Born March 12, 1912, in Lamar, Ark., daughter of the late Ben f. and Molly Cook Harmon, she was a member of the Bernie Nazerene Church in Bernie and a homemaker.

On Dec. 14, 1935, in Hagarville, Ark., she married Ben Calvin Long, who preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1969. She was also preceded in death by two brothers.

Survivors include four sons, Huey P. Long, of Kansas City, Kan., Ben Harmon and Stephen Long, both of Bernie and Douglas Wayne Long, of Satanta, Kan.; two daughters, Mary E. Long, of St. Louis, Mo. and Sylvia K. Sneed, of Springfield; one brother, Orville Harmon, of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Bessie Rowbottom, of Lamar; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 18, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Wells officiating.

Burial will follow at the Bernie cemetery.

James D. McKinney

James D. McKinney, 60, of Kennett, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.

Alma Dempsey

Alma Doris (Rose) Dempsey of Senath passed away peacefully in Colma, California, on Dec. 16, 2001, at the age of 76. Beloved wife of the late Hugh Dempsey: devoted mother of Gus and Molly Guillen, Mike and Elaine Johnson, Greg and Gayle Johnson, stepson Mark Dempsey and grandmother of Melisa, Marci, Scott, Shelly, Brandon, Stacy, Gus and Joseph. Adored great grandmother of Sean, Serena and Gabriel. She will also be missed by special friends, Victoria Abt and Nara Nixon.
Great grandson Sean wrote and spoke this at her service:

"Mema
She was a great person in many ways. she had three very different great-grandchildren, me Sean, Serena and Gabriel. I bet we will always remember her in our hearts. Mema had a way to warm any heart. Her daughter Molly turned out to be a great mother because of her. I think that everybody who knew her loved her. I wished the Lord should have waited until xmas, she could love anybody rich or poor. Mema was born in 1925-2001, she lived to be 76. We will miss her if you think you will never be with her again but she will be right in our hearts. Let's just think of it like she is in a better place and no longer in pain."

Sean, 9-years-old.

Louise Gill,

Louise Gill, 94, of Martin, Ten. and formerly of Bragg City, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at her residence.

Born March 13, 1907, in Cades, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late James C. and Annie Eunice Bledsoe Nethery.

On Oct. 11, 1926, she married William Thomas "Bill" Gill who preceded her in death July 5, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Nethery and a sister, Sara McClanahan.

Survivors include three sons, William Thomas Gill II of Columbia, Mo., Donald C. Gill of Martin, Tenn. and William Thomas Gill III of Sedalia, Mo.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Bragg City Baptist church with the Revs. Dale Rickman and A.C Garner officiating.

Burial was in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett under direction of McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett.

Pallbearers were Ronnie and Mike Crafton, Everett Marchbanks, Tom McDonald, Tom Duncan and Johnny Walker. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Pritchard, Berl Young, Harry Gurlen, Elmer Tomlinson and Al McMahon.

Memorials may be made to the Camp McClanahan Children Scholarship Fund, 212 Southwest Drive, Kennett, Mo. 63857.

Johnnie Little

Johnnie Dennis Little, 80, of Poplar Bluff, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at John J. Pershing VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff.

Born July 21, 1921, in Matthews, Mo., son of the late John Harvey and Francis Agnes Burch Little, he was a retired minister and evangelist of the Pentecostal faith; served with the U.S. Army in World War II; was a member of VFW Post 7183 in Lilbourn, Mo., and former member of Civil Defense in Poplar Bluff.

On Feb. 23, 1968, in Poplar Bluff, he married Patty Lou Stamps who survives.

Other survivors include two sons, John Timothy Little and David Aaron Little, both of Poplar Bluff; two daughters, Norma Jean Hooser of Ash Flat, Ark. and Misti Dawn Braddom of Sparta, Tenn.; three step-sons, Steve Ray of Rockwood, Tenn., Michael Ray of Mack Creek, Mo. and John Ray of Springfield, Mo.; three step-daughters, Sharon Sexton and Janie Kneir, both of Poplar Bluff and Jeanie Chasteen of St. Clair; 33 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bob Little; a grandson, Sammy Sturgeon; three brothers, Elmer Little, Delmar Little and Melvin Little and one sister, Gertrude Kemper.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 20, at Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden, with the Rev. Kit Campbell officiating.

Burial with military rites will be in Mt. Gilead cemetery.

James McKinney

James D. McKinney, 60, of Kennett, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born Sunday, Nov. 23, 1941, in Delta, Ark., son of the late Alexander and Reather Jean McKinney, he was a farm worker.

In 1957 he married Fredda Mae Wiggins who preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sons, Willie James McKinney of St. Louis, James Willie McKinney of Atlanta, Ga. and James Talton of West Plains, Mo.; two daughters, Charlene Whitfield of Flint, Mich. and Lisa Johnson and her husband, Clinton, of Jonesboro, Ark.; seven brothers, Edward McKinney of Poplar Bluff, Tom McKinney, Tim McKinney and his wife, Jeanette, Jethro McKinney and his wife, Lutella, Alex McKinney, John McKinney and Jewell McKinney and his wife, Gena, all of Kennett; two sisters, Geneva Howard and her husband, Ben, of Alton, Ill. and Zuella Muse of Benton Harbor, Mich. and a special friend, Denise Sloan of Kennett.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 20, in the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. E. L. Shockley officiating.

Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.

Pallbearers were Clarence Pulliam, Charles McCrackin, Robert Williams, Sidney Denham, Terry Wheeler and Gene farmer. Honorary pallbearers were Jewell, Timothy, Jethro, Tom, Edward, Alex and John McKinney, Larry Robinson, O'Dell Harrell and Joe Rogers.
