Christopher A. Ellis
Christopher A. Ellis, 5, of Kennett, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born Sept. 7, 1996, in Kennett, she was the son of Shane Ellis and the late Charlean Pender Ellis.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Stephens; three sisters, Carrie and Amber Stephens and Cheyenna Coline Ellis and a grandmother, Maxine Pender of Senath.
Funeral Services were 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Senath with the Rev. Kalvin Stanley officiating. Burial was in the Senath cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eddie Waller, Donald Lee Colman, Charles Budd, Mark Beights, Donnie Fitzgerald and Zachary Burns.
Honorary pallbearers were Shawn Harmon, Jim Butler, Marty Cato, Lance Davis, John Fox, Matt Freeman, Shawn Mathenia, Bill Monroe, Chris Harmon and Nick Robinson.
Mildred Jacobs
Mildred Elizabeth Jacobs, 78, Moberly, formerly of Kennett, died Friday, April 5, at Moberly Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 26, 1923, in St. Louis, daughter of the late August B. and Mary Haberger Bunse, she retired from Wal-Mart after 18 years service. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a life member of both the DAV Auxiliary and Purple Heart Auxiliary.
She is survived by three sons, Edwin "Ed" Jacobs and his wife, Glenda, of Rhineland, Mo., George Jacobs and his wife, Revola, and James Jacobs and his wife, Carolyn, all of Kennett; two daughters, Marie Adkins and her husband, Jimmy Ray, of McKinney, Texas and Roberta Dalton and her husband, Bill, of Moberly; one sister, Alice Guelker of St. Louis and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray W. Jacobs.
Visitation is 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Million-Taylor-Patton Funeral Home in Moberly, with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Father Mike Coleman officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
Larry Jones
Larry Jones, 59, of Kennett, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Arrangements are incomplete with McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett.
Jasper Wheeler
Jasper Wheeler, 70, of Kennett, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare-South in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born Friday, Jan. 22, 1932, at Arkadelphia, Ark., son of the late J.D. and Essie Mae Wheeler he was a farm laborer. He was a widower.
Survivors include a brother, Gearlie Wheeler and his wife, Venus; two nieces, Easter May Taylor and Tammy William; six nephews, Johnny White, Kelvin, Ronnie, Randal and Danian Wheeler all of Calif., Terry and David Wheeler of Kennett.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. today, Sunday, April 7, in Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Bishop Carl Russell officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers are Jewel McKenny, Carl Luster, Oscar Willoughby, Lavan Pulliam, O Neal Austin and Sidney Demmon.
Honorary pallbearers are Gearlie Wheeler, Terry, David, Emanuel and Jeremy Wheeler and James William.
Alvie Bullard
Alvie L. Bullard, 76, of Sparta, Ill., formerly of Cahokia, Ill, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Ill.
Born Oct. 19, 1925, in Hamilton, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Icy Tice.
Survivors include one son, Jim Rhoades and wife, Bonnie, of Sparta; one brother, Gene Tice and wife, Maryann, of Kennett; three sisters, Fay Daniels and husband, Don, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Elgie Lee Rowell and husband, Audry, of Moore, Okla. and Ella Mae Lewis, of Cahokia; a sister-in-law, Louise Tice, of Waterloo, Ill.; a dear friend, Joe Howell, of Smithton, Ill; four grandchildren, Jim Rhoades Jr. and wife, Diane and Scot Rhoades, both of Cahokia, Barb Robinson and wife, Belleville, Ill. and Dana James and husband, Gene, of Fairview Heights, Ill., 10 great grandchildren; three step grandchildren, Kim Herrell and husband, Scot and Tommy Coffey and wife, Joann, both of Rockport, Ind. and Tammy Klein and husband, Gary, of Sparta and seven step great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 10, at Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia with Rev. Gene Spurgeon officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
Max Dye
Max Dye, 62, of Kennett, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.
Born Vov. 2, 1939, in White Oak, Mo., he was the son of the late Alfred Arlen and Ethel Minnie Pugh. On Aug. 23, 1960, in Holcomb, Mo., he married
Saundra Gayla Tucker, who preceded him in death on June 21, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Mark and Brandon Dye, both of Kennett; one daughter, Lana Shipman, of Kennett; three sister, Shirley Jones, Brenda Hicks and Beverly Stone, all of Kennett and two grandchildren, Courtney and Lauren Shipman.
He was preceded in death by one son, Kerry Lynn Dye and one brother, Reggie Dye.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 10, at the McDaniel Funeral Chapel in Kennett with Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Lonnie Grice, Rex Stephens, Larry McMillan, Jackie Pickard and Jeff and Kyle Stone.
Honorary pallbearers were Leo Hayes, Roy Rogers, John White and Bill Bradshaw
Hoyt Gardner
Dr. Hoyt D. Gardner, 78 of Louisville, Ky., died Monday, March 25, 2002.
A native of Paragould, Ark., he retired from private practice as a general surgeon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II and the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. Dr. Gardner was past president of the American Medical Association, past president of Kentucky Medical Association and of Louisville and Jefferson County Medical Associations. He was chairman of U.S. Delegation of World Health Organization, chairman of the board of trustees to University of Louisville, chairman of Louisville and Jefferson County Board of Health and the American Medical Political Action Committee, Kentucky State Republican Central Committee, Louisville and Jefferson County civil War Roundtable, national president of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, chairman of Innominate Society, Thomas Wolfe Society, past member of Rotary Club of Jeffersontown and member of Big Spring Country Club, Jefferson Club and Southeast Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose B. Gardner, March 2, 2002.
Survivors include three sons, Hoyt D. Gardner, Jr. of Columbia, Tenn. and Thomas G. and Nick Gardner, both of Louisville and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Highlands Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Brown officiating. State Rep. Bob DeWeese delivered the eulogy.
Burial was in Cave Hill cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., American Parkinson's Disease Association, U. of L. School of Medicine or Southeast Christian Church.
Rose Gardner
Rose Brakmeier Gardner, 79, of Louisville, Ky., died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Norton Suburban Hospital.
She was vice president and national secretary-treasurer of Women's Auxiliary to AMA, president of both the Women's Auxiliary to Kentucky Medical Association and Jefferson County Medical Society Womans Auxiliary, founding member of the Healing Place, a member of Big Spring Country Club, Jefferson Club and Southeast Christian and Beargrass Christian Churches.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Hoyt D. Gardner, Sr., three sons, Hoyt D. Gardner, Jr. of Columbia, Tenn., Thomas G. and Nick Gardner, both of Louisville; a brother George Brakmeier, Jr. and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Highlands Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Brown officiating.
Burial was in Cave Hill cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Healing Place or Southeast and Beargrass Christian Churches.

Max Dye, 62, of Kennett, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 9, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the McDaniel Funeral Chapel in Kennett with Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens in Kennett.
Ida Holmes
Ida Mae Holmes, 83, formerly of Senath, Mo., died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Ashland Health Care Center of Ashland, Mo.
Born Aug. 29, 1918, in Waggoner, Okla., daughter of the Joseph and Lottie May Lewis Bagby, she was a retired licensed practical nurse and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0059 and Ashland Chapter 309 order of Eastern star.
On Oct. 29, 1929, she married
Thurston Holmes, who preceded her in death on May 20, 1969.
Survivors include one son, Jimmy Holmes and wife, of Sikeston, Mo.; one daughter, Sharon Easter, of Hartsburg, Mo.; one grandson, Richard Brandon Easter and wife, Susan; four step-grandchildren, Larry Eby and wife, Anita, Debbie Carlisle and husband, Keenan, Judy Turner and husband, Dan and Karen Eby and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at noon, today, Tuesday, April 9, at the Senath McDaniel Funeral Chapel in Senath.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Tueday, April 9, at the McDaniel Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.
Burial will be in the Senath cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Holmes, Brandon Easter, Keenan Carlisle and Larry Eby.
Fred Howren
Fred Euell Howren, of Hayti, Mo., died Friday, April 5, 2002, in Ste. Genevieve, Mo.
Born June 4, 1924, in Bragg City, Mo., son of the late Robert Lee and Luemer Brewer Howren, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 1901st Engineer Battalion. He was employed as a brakeman and conductor with the Frisco Railroad for 37 years.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Fred and wife, Elaine, of St. Genevieve and Keith and wife, Linda, of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Melissa Otto and husband, John, of Ste, Genevieve, Brian Howren, of North Beach, Maryland and Amber and Adam Howren of Goodlettsville; four great-grandchildren, Bailey and Camille Otto and Caleb and Emily Howren and one sister, Glayds Clapps, of Walnut, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel L. Howren; three brothers, Wesley, Mack and Arthur Howren and one sister, Goldie Gurlen.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Dr. Mike Melton officiating.
Burial was in the Pemiscot Memorial Gardens in Caruthersville, Mo.
Pallbearers were Doug and Ronnie Pete Bowling, Curtis Thornton, Wayne Kincade, Ricky Hall and Dave Howren.
